Called in for a reviving pint. Had a local beer called Legend which went down very well. Pub is quirky as it has a Post Office counter at one end of the bar. Steepish climb up from the river Dart but worthwhile.

Had a fantastic night here at the Red Lion ,a wonderful meal and nothing was to much trouble, food was cooked to order by a French chef to very high standard, and the locals were very friendly which made the evening all the more enjoyable. Great night out. Don't believe some of the bad remarks previously made.

Love this place. It’s the heart of the village. Shop, post office and pub all rolled into one and run by friendly, hard working staff. The pub is full of character, dog friendly with amazing homemade food. The best mussels and scallops. Fabulous pie and mash. The dauphinois potatos and homemade chips are fantastic.

I think other reviewers have mixed this pub up with the ferry boat inn, which is far better. This establishment is run by two ladies. One in particular is extremely rude and should not be in the industry, let alone dittisham. You almost have to visit to believe how rude and dam right miserable people can be. On a previous visit they had a young man employee that was absolutely amazing, but he has since moved on. Unfortunately this is now solely in the hands off two grumpy ladies. I have unfortunately had to award it one star due to not being allowed to put zero. Poke your head around the door at your peril!!!

Wanted a hot drink after a lovely long walk in a beautiful area...walked into the shabby bar to be ignored by the person behind the bar who was on a personal call and couldn't even acknowledge that we were there...we certainly felt like we were an inconvenience being there. Asked if we could sit outside but told that they were short staffed and the outside area was closed (we only wanted to take our drinks outside so not sure what difference it made that they were short staffed as we would have carried our drinks ourselves). Whole place was a mess with paperwork all over the bar and a shabby looking local shop on one side of the bar area. Definitely somewhere to be avoided.

During a walk with my heavily pregnant wife, we decided to pop into this pleasant looking restaurant for a rest and a bite to eat. As we entered the building an incredibly rude woman asked “what we wanted” without even the decency to say hello. I would strongly advise to give this place a miss as it appears they lack manners in hospitality. However, I would add the gentleman there is rather pleasant and is clearly putting the effort in to making up for the atrocious attitude of the lady serving.

If you want to ruin a pleasent holiday in Dittisham this is the place to do it. Booked the Red Lion for two nights as the only place that had space to accomodate us and our three dogs but got bad mouthed by the owners and staff as soon as they had taken our money, where reasonably pleasent untill then! Terrace shut even though it was August and covered in the owners dogs mess. Needless to say tried to book elsewhere immediately.

Have come and stayed in Dittisham for a couple of years now and the Red Lion is a very different pub as it’s part shop, post office etc like people have said. We have never had a bad meal here and it has been lovely and enjoyable and reasonably priced. The staff are friendly l, helpful and throw a bit of banter! Far from being rude like someone mentioned in a review so please ignore that as I for one can not see how that is true. I do agree it does need a tidy up as it’s looking tired hence why I gave 4 stars not 5 but don’t let this put you off. I would certainly eat there again and have drink.

A healthy walk from the Harbour takes you away from the queues and crowded pubs to the village pub (also it appeared grocer, newsagent, chemist etc) Whilst not in its prime it serves its purpose and would lose charm if over smartened. Limited staff but they tried hard and the sandwiches were great and the beer choice fine for real ale and the rest - pleasant outside garden with fine views and a very reasonable bill

Fantastic use of clear blinds to section off the tables in the bar but yet we felt the space was open, still able to chat to the lady behind the bar from our table. Really well done, as were all the measures. And the food and beer were v good too, amazingly fresh fish. A nice visit in these uncertain times.

Is it a pub or a restaurant or a shop or a post office? Could suceed in all four if the owner really cared. We were simply an inconvenience to her. Not even worthy of a smile or eye contact. Beer was okay as was food. And we bought a paper, postcards and stamps, so job done. But I wish the experience had been more pleasurable.

We visited the Red Lion today for the first time and thoroughly the hospitality offered whether it be from behind the bar, in the shop or in the Post Office section.....what lovely staff. Next time we intend to try the food and if any of what we saw is a guide as to what we might be served then we'll be back there sooner rather than later. And what a deck to enjoy a panoramic view over the countryside and the River Dart below.

We landed from London, to find a shop and post office in a pub?!Very friendly, quaint and totally unique. The German umpah music was a strange choice for a country pub, but somehow it fitted. Never tried the food, but intend to.

I ate here a few evenings whilst staying in Dittisham over Easter and I don't understand the first review (maybe they were having an off day??) The food was very good for the price and the quality was also apparent in the meat and fish served- We didn't have one bad meal between us and If I'm every around the Dittisham area I shall eat here again. When we first entered the pub we were unsure weather to eat here as it was dated to be polite but I'm glad we did stay and eat as overall the food was much better than The Ferry Boat Inn. The staff were friendly and helpful especially the main waiter who served us each night- he was very funny. Overall I would definitely recommend eating here.

Excellent food and service, and beautiful ice cream. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was excellent. We also had beef chilli nachos, also delicious 😋
