Absurdly expensive - £2.95 for a small glass of milk not even full to the top! I used to go here regularly with my children over 30 years ago and it was much more sensibly priced. On this occasion I wanted two of my grandsons to experience the ambience of the place. But £8.35 for a scone, jam and cream plus small glass of milk was ridiculous. I shall never return.

Strange but quaint place to get to. Be prepared for a staircase, a handrail on both sides, and you'll need it to, to climb upstairs. Once upstairs, we were approached by a smiling member of staff, who said, "Sit where you like." The floor slopes, but once seated, it seems you forget. We all had Devon cream & jam scone with a cup of coffee each. Wow, the scone freshly made earlier, was warm. It just melted in your mouth. Once you got the jam & cream on, or is it cream & jam. My aunt & I had a latte & my husband & uncle had a cappuccino. Stand carefully for the loo, you may fall. There is only one unisex toilet. We paid and left. Back down the staircase again....the restaurant is above a shop, which is situated by the museum. Not for disabled people..though I made it with my walking stick. No car parking.

Extremely overpriced. We paid £27.90 for a pasty and side salad., a ham sandwich and 2 teas. The side salad consisted of a piece of lettuce, a slice of tomato and a slice of cucumber. Considering it is a bakery the bread was from a shop bought sliced bread and the ham was processed. We have visited previously and were really pleased but won’t be going back.

The bakery and deli are on the ground floor, with the restaurant on the first floor of this seventeenth century building, part of The Butterwalk in Duke Street. It’s very quirky with a sloping floor in the restaurant. We had coffee and cake which was lovely but expensive.

Awfully overpriced, I was pretty annoyed with the cost of the food and drinks. Over £10 for only a jacket potato and tuna! Plus, the latte I had was disgusting. When one pays £4.15 for a coffee one expects a larger mug and a barista style drink. What one got was a small cup and what tasted like a Nescafe sachet coffee. I wouldn't recommend, I left feeling rather angry with the cost of the food and drinks.

Ordered Chicken & Ham pie cold not very nice in all fairness it did say it was cold, but it was solid out of the fridge. 1 homemade pasty the meat was such thin small slithers it tasted awful, it was like it had been warmed up over and so disgusting it was left. 2 lots of chips and 2 very small glasses of squash with water which were nearly £3 per drink. £34.95. In total. When we told them politely about the pasty and it was not eaten she just said sorry about that, not even a smile from any staff. Absolutely appalling food & no customer skills at all, would definitely not recommend to anyone. Gave 1 * as it won’t allow me to give 0

Two slices of semi style cheap supermarket bread filled with a meagre portion of white crab meat that could just as easily have come out of a tin, served with a few scraps of salad which included the top slice of tomato that was inedible, cost over £14.A luke warm Diet Coke on one of the hottest days of the year and no ice available when requested. Plate of chips, and a pot of tea came to £28 in total. Absolutely appalling, just wish we had said something instead of being polite, especially having now seen others reviews. Considering downstairs is a bakery and Dartmouth is renowned for fresh local crab we were shocked. Avoid at all cost.

We really enjoyed the food and service. Great standard. I had been in 2023, so made a beeline for the restaurant again. Local relatives were not aware, they are now ! And well impressed. Went on a day trip to Dartmouth and tried here for their food. We had Pork Baps & a Hotdog. The Pork Baps were extremely dry with more stuffing than pork. The Hotdog was requested with just onions, NO Ketchup or Mustard. When I sat down to eat it there were NO onions just lots of ketchup. Which I don't like!. Why ask how you want your meal and then ignore it!. Won't be going again as it's expensive for terrible food. The birds had a great feast though.

Very expensive for very poor quality and quantity meals. Myself and partner went upstairs to have a sandwich and at £11.00 for a tuna sandwich and £14.99 for a crab sandwich you expect a bit of effort and filling to be put into it my partners tuna sandwich had the thinnest scrapping of tuna and a slice of lettuce in it and I had more shell than crab meat in mine, and for that price you expect a bit of a garnish and maybe a few crisps but no I had a piece of curled up lettuce after paying the bill we headed down stairs and thought we would buy a pasty and a cake for later when I did bite into the pasty it looked like dog food a big lump of brown congealed slop with a few chunks of swede in it that went in the bin not even the seagulls would eat it then onto the viennese swirl one bite and that went into the bin cheap nasty chocolate fake synthetic filling and the biscuit itself tasted of cheap margarine will never return what a disappointment after paying nearly £50 we would of thought the food would of been top quality

Nice food in the restaurant, including Devonshire Pasties (like Cornish Pasties but with the edging on top instead of at the side). Downstairs is a takeaway with cakes, pastries, etc. Interesting history - it slopes due to subsidence hundreds of years ago (safe now I understand). What a totally awful experience on what was a nostalgic visit to one of my favourite places - Dartmouth, Devon. We ordered two Cappuccinos, water for my son and unfortunately they don’t serve any non lactose drinks. My wife daughter and son went to look for another supplier whilst I went upstairs to enjoy my coffee. After some time I wondered where my family was (my wife is Thai). She said the owner would not let her in or my son and daughter. Despite my purchase of three drinks. The man on duty yesterday was arrogantly rude to my family and as close to being racist as I have ever witnessed. I went down stairs to see the problem and he was nothing short of downright rude. I would not recommend or encourage anyone to support this venue if this is the attitude to out of town visitors. He is obviously in the wrong business and needs an alignment of courtesy and attitude in the hospitality business, Black List the Sloping Deck at the Butterwalk in Dartmouth. You would probably be better served at the slaughter house !!! Very Angry and embarrassed to how my family was treated.

I dont want to say this place wasnt very good, but it wasnt really. Went in because the downstairs bakery and posters all looked delicious and we wanted a sit-in light lunch. The upstairs was so old fashioned it was abit of a surprise, no atmosphere. We had a really nice welcome from a helpful lady. To be fair we didnt take much notice of the pricing at that point. Ordered 2 coffees, a cheese toastie and a cheese and ham panini. Chose to have sides of salad rather than chips when offered. The sarnies were delicious, the ‘side’ was hilarious - 1 piece of tomato 1 piece of lettuce and one piece of cucumber. Coffees, in my opinion tasted like instant coffees, had to ask for sugar. The cheese toastie was literally just your average hovis. Anyway, sorry to say that £26 for two basic sarnies and 2 basic coffees felt totally ridiculous. Gutted.

What attracted us to the Sloping Deck in Dartmouth was the queue outside the bakery door. We then realises that there was a tearoom upstairs. The narrow and twisted steps led us up to a time of dark furniture and bowed mullioned windows. The sloping deck was well named with a distinct camber on the floor. Set up with a traditional tearoom feel we sat down at table with clean linen and crockery and after perusing the menu and inspecting the plates of beautiful cakes, the men in the party opted for a Devon cream tea and the ladies a delicious cake each. The waitress was quick, pleasant and answered our enquiry as to how our Devon cream tea should be eaten. Very promptly we were served with generous pots of tea folowed by two plates which consisted of 2 large scones a large pot of Devon cream and a generous pot of jam. The soft crumbly scones ,cream and jam went down a treat with the men and were washed down with cups of hot tea. The ladies cakes were of equal quality and enjoyed to the last crumb. This feast only cost £26 which offered great value. We head back to Scotland happy and sated and delighted to recommend this step back in time to those visiting Dartmouth.

We have been visiting the bakery and upstairs restaurant for many years. The bakery is fantastic and its wonderful to see that they continue to serve all the favourites such as a 'nutty finger' along with cream filled macaroons, Bakewell tarts etc. There is a...

I had a breakfast here and unfortunately it was not well cooked. The egg was over cooked and the yolk was hard. The bacon looked like it had not seen a frying pan or grill, it looked very pale. The toast was very hard, as if it had been sitting a while. Shame as the ingredients seemed to be good quality. Nice Latte and friendly staff.

Very disappointing experience, we ordered pasties which looked good in the window. Unfortunately the pasties we were served were practically inedible and overcooked. Two of them had very black bases. We mentioned this to a waitress and she spoke to the chef, he stated that...

Excellent food and service, and beautiful ice cream. I had the chicken quesadilla and it was excellent. We also had beef chilli nachos, also delicious 😋

Staff was rude when they got our order wrong and then correct it after a bit of telling them but the was going to refuse and service that day was not good. Was over charged with a coffee and cake we didnt have as an extra 7 pounds , Other times been good. Food nice.

Awesome. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I arrived late evening for work over a couple of days. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful from getting me a taxi late evening at the train station to helping me get to my work venue in the morning. I had arrived past restaurant hours but the staff were more than happy to prepare food if I had wanted. I was also given a local delicacy from a local. I’m normally a poor sleeper but slept so well. Whilst the rooms at first appearance look a little dated the bed is so so comfy. The room also spotlessly clean. The question is - what’s more important to you - a great nights sleep or a sterile environment with mod cons? Sadly the first morning I didn’t have chance to sample the breakfast- I didn’t have time to wait. They have a sign saying ‘We don’t serve fast food. We serve fresh food as fast as we can”. Suffice to say I ordered my breakfast for the following morning before I went to bed so it was ready for me when I needed it. Now for the highlight DINNER. I eat a lot and this is definitely one of the best meals I had in a long time. Not the usual processed pub food. The main(stuffed chicken with root veg and dauphinois potatoes was delicious. I never order dessert but felt I had to - the main was so good. The sticky toffee pudding did not disappoint. Overall a really great stay. Thanks so much

I booked 2 nights for friends online, i had some simple questions about parking and accessibility but couldn't get hold of anyone to answer my questions so i cancelled. I cancelled nearly 1 month before the cut off for a full 100% refund ( clearly stated in their contract when booking) . I then spent nearly 2 months calling, emailing, leaving voicemails to get my money back - they ignored every one. In the end I had to claim the money back via my bank. If my bank hadnt stepped in and help, this establishment would have stolen over £400 from me. I am writing to hopefully sway others and stop them doing the same to others
