We have visited the diner many times and not had any issues. The breakfasts are good and really like the veggie one. Their pie meal is very good, tastes nice and plenty of veg, very filling. The coffee is strong which I like. The prices are fair. Never had a bad meal here. The staff are pleasant. Sometimes service is slow but not often enough to bother us. Nice outdoor area with picnic tables if you prefer to sit in the fresh air.

A group of family and friends visited this place recently for the first time . The roast dinners chosen, were mainly unfinished because of the poor standard of the food . No yorkshire puddings, as the “ chef “ had burnt them ! The veg was awful, and the potatoes were old and hard. My hunter’s chicken had been nuked in the microwave, therefore the bacon , cheese and barbecue sauce were basically a guey mess . The price of the meals are for the quality , high. As my heading says, first and last

Very poor. Basically paid £18 for peas, carrots and gravy. We asked for a child’s roast as I can’t manage large meals but if you’re over a certain age, it’s not an option!! The roast potatoes were hard and obviously old. Cauliflower cheese a gloopy mess and the vegetarian gravy took too long to come out therefore making our meals luke warm. We ordered Diet Pepsi but when the waitress brought them out, they were mixed up and in the wrong sizes. We weren’t asked if we wanted dessert or coffee. This is my first visit to this establishment and it will most definitely be my last.

Used to come here and was always gaurenteed a good breakfast but sadly I left dissapointed. Had the big breakfast and I was left wondering how small the smaller one would have been. The sausages were clearly a cheap frozen option and a grand total o faux very thin slices of mushroom. But I a must say that the bacon was ok. On top of this my food had turned up with no coffee served and this was only brought to me when I asked. I must say that it looks like it is under new management and it does seem like a tight ship with the new team, just hoping that things improve again because they have a beautiful location to work with.

Cafe close to my home which we usually just drive past as seems a bit charmless… however decided to try it out for a breakfast. Most dry and terrible cooked breakfast I’ve ever had. Also very overpriced for what you get. Was literally just egg, sausage, bacon and toast. You have to pay extra for any beans, tomatoes or mushroom etc which would make it less dry, I would’ve expected at least beans or tomatoes as these usually come with a breakfast. The place lacked character/friendliness and staff seemed lacklustre Overall not a great experience and would not return despite the convenient location

A planned picnic on Dartmoor had to be abandoned due to pouring rain. We decided to move on to The Dartmoor Diner following a friends recommendation. The car park was full and as we had not booked we enquired as to the possibility of lunch. Our luck was in there was a table for four left. The waitress who showed us in could not have been more helpful. My wife was in an electric chair and this lady moved furniture. around to make sure we were seated comfortably. She was brilliant. As for the food it matched the service. No fine dining here but honest to goodness Devon food cooked in true Dartmoor style. Honest portions of local produce looking good and tasting even better. Highlights of the lunch were roast turkey with all the trimmings and liver and bacon and onions. Brilliant! Well done Dartmoor Diner in every respect. We shall return making sure we book next time.

We booked here for a carvery on a late Sunday afternoon. We are advised the carvery would only be available if there was some left as we chose to eat at 3pm. On arrival we found the entrance a little crowded as the carvery and the till to pay are right in front of you. Its a little cramped by the entrance. After sitting down our drinks and food order was taken, luckily enough there was carvery available which 3 out of our 4 chose to have. The other opted for Chicken and Ham Pie with carvery veg. (This come plated up). The gentlemen behind the bar was very entertaining and looked after us as we were sat near there and he even Devised when to go up and get the carvery so that we would be all eating together when the pie was ready. There was plenty of choice of veg and all very tasty with 3 choices of meat. There wasn't lots left but enough for us. A special mention about the parsnips with craked black pepper as these were delicious. All in all we had a nice meal and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We would definitely go back for a carvery but for us we are happy to run the risk of none being left and go later as we can imagine at the busy times its a bit hectic being such a small venue.

We have used The Dartmoor Diner many timesbefore but after very poor service on Mother’s Day this year, I unfortunately feel that from now on I will use one of the many other restaurants in Plymouth. I spent my hard earned money on having 3 carveries and 3 desserts delivered to my home, as the restaurant was closed due to lockdown. My booked delivery slot was 12-2.00pm. I received my order at 3.30pm, which wasn’t a problem as I understand it would be busy due to Mother’s Day orders. However, I didn’t receive my 3 desserts which cost £15.75. I called the restaurant the same day to report this but it went straight to answerphone, so I left a message. The following day, I didn’t hear back, so I called again only to be informed by Mario that as it was delivered, I needed to take this up with the delivery company (it wasn’t a well known delivery company and the only one that could be used on the Dartmoor diner website). I phoned the delivery company the same day, spoke to a female and explained my issue, she told me she was driving and would call me straight back...guess what...she didn’t!! I then called her numerous times, but each time my call wasn’t answered...my guess is she blocked my number.So...there it goes, I used the only service available on the Dartmoor diner website...and suffered paying £15.75 for goods not received, which I cannot get a refund for!! Not in anyway acceptable customer service for such a well established business! I’m hopeful that mine, my family and friends future business will be appreciated somewhere else!

This is a sweet restaurant in a nice location with a large car park. The service was friendly but also slow, after our plates were cleared we were left for around 20 minutes until I got up to find a member of staff and ask for our bill. The food itself is given in big portions, which is good. However I really think this place would benefit by adding an option for smaller portions, or adding something for people with smaller appetites as anyone over the age of 10 is forbidden to order from the kids menu. They are strict at enforcing this as I overheard them say no to a family with a teenager who wanted a smaller portion of food. I do think it is an outdated rule as many other places give the option of smaller portions/ aren’t strict about who orders off what menu. The food was tasty though, although the salad garnish looked like it had been left out for to long as it was browning and dry so that did put me off. I don’t think I will be returning here purely based on the fact that there isn’t much on the menu that enticed me and I prefer smaller portions of food so I don’t waste anything.

As soon as we walked into the diner, we were given a very warm and friendly welcome by the staff.Four of us sat down to excellent (homely) meals. Cottage pie, fish and chips and a super burger. All ‘trimmings’ veg, chips etc were hot and good size portions. This was served in very comfortable, clean and well presented surroundings. Our service order was taken promptly by very attentive waitress who seemed genuinely intent on us having a pleasant experience. The meals arrived in very good time.(They even provide takeaway facility for the scrummy deserts).Oh yes there was some piped muzak but on the plus side this was part of the ‘diner’ ambience. Decent 50’s/60’s country and some rock music played at exactly the right volume. All in all a very pleasant experience.Would we comeback here again? You try stopping me!5 stars.....very rare from me!

On first impression all seemed very nice, friendly staff etc, shown to a table straight away. Order taken quickly and arrived within good time. When the food arrived it was very basic for the price but well cooked and tasty. When we started eating my daughter noticed a long dark hair underneath my husband's food. We know for sure it wasn't his as it was long and dark and he has short blonde hair! My husband being type 1 diabetic, decided that as he had taken his insulin injection, he could not wait any longer for his food, so carefully and with little enthusiasm for his meal now, continued eating. If this wasn't bad enough I then bit into my pulled pork roll and bit down on something hard, when I took the hard bit from my mouth I found it to be the string that's normally tied around a joint of meat!We reported this to the waitress whom apologised and went and told the chef! Neither the chef nor the management followed up on this, nothing more was said, we reluctantly paid the bill and left. It seemed as though this was quite normal for them and we left understanding this place to be quite a poor 'greasy-spoon' charging like a much better, cleaner and more hygienic restaurant! A shame, but I doubt we'll be back anytime soon. The local health inspector should probably pay them a visit more often

We have been to the Diner quite a few times now, but Sunday the 14th of March was the last time. Two dogs allowed in the café and one was actually given sausages to eat from a plate that I assume would later be given to a person to eat off. Allowing dogs into a café I find absolutely disgusting, why a dog owner can not leave their dog at home for the duration of a meal is beyond me. This is going to sound like sour grapes but the Sunday roast only just managed to be bland, but the real issue is allowing animals in the café. as far as I am concerned they may as well have left the front doors open and invited the sheep and horses in.

I chose a hot Cajun chicken panini and my mum chose an egg and bacon sandwich. To be fair she did enjoy her meal but mine was awful. I like my spicy food but all I could taste was chilli, everything else in the ingredients didn't stand a chance for taste. This is clearly a situation where the cook isn't tasting his/her own food before sending it out to the customers or their taste buds aren't working probably.

We had almost finished our light bite by the time we finally received our drinks(this was due to the waitress sitting down at a customers table, clearly her friends, talking to them)meanwhile our drinks(hot?)had been on the counter for over 5 minutes. The very hot water sign in the toilets sink should say scolding hot water(it was ridiculous). The toilets like the Diner was not clean. The waitresses seem to think that one tea towel can do all jobs- wipe the trays, wipe their hands, wipe the edges of cups from the froth spilling over the edge of the mugs, wipe the taps on coffee machine, wipe the counter top, wipe cups and saucers before placing on trays(really ?-cross contamination). One waitress was seen scratching her head over a glass while she was preparing a banana milkshake and just continued preparing the drink. The staffs uniforms were not clean either.Needless to say we will not be going back.

The Dartmoor Diner is situated on the main road between Yelverton and Plymouth, it offers views out across the Dartmoor national park from both the 1st and 2nd storey. We attend on a Sunday as we had heard from a few locals that the Sunday Carvery was excellent, the locals were not wrong! The carvery is priced at 11.25 pounds and gives you the option to choose 2 of the 3 meat options (Roast Turkey and stuffing, Roast Beef and Yorkshire pudding, Roast Pork and Crackling). You then you select your own vegetables (Roast potato, Roast parsnip, Peas, Carrots, Cauliflower bake, mashed potato) as well as many condiments including Gravy, Cranberry sauce, Apple sauce, mustards varieties. The food was all fantastic but the pick for us was the Roast Turkey and Stuffing (sage and onion), Tthe turkey was very moist and the stuffing really light. Compliments go to all the staff wo were friendly and helpful, it was very easy to see why this was so popular with the locals. I highly recommend this to anyone passing through the area.

I had a lovely experience whilst being served at the diner! And the waitress (or maybe the waiter) forgot our teas so our order was on the house :D

We went here after a post Xmas day birthday walk for coffee and cake. It wasn't busy so we were quick to be seated and the order for coffee and cake taken x 4. Cake cane over and 2 forks for 4 of us, did ask for another set but nothing arrived. Coffee turned up after the cake with no milk, but some for the tea. We again asked for some but nothing turned up. I went to pay and the gent just ignored me and collected cups. Did turn out to be £25!!! Wasn't worth it and won't bother again.

Had a very nice Birthday Brunch at the Dartmoor Diner, unfortunately when I ordered Hot Chocolate and Cappuccino it was made by someone who clearly had no idea how to operate a Barista machine as the milk was boiled. Whilst the food was good it was marred by the poor making of the drinks.

After having driven past here a number of times we decided to give it a go, we were quite disappointed. The place has a very old feel to it but not in a good way, we were going to get up and go after being seated, squeezing through the very small gaps between tables, but we persevered. The service was poor, we had to summon staff over waving hands, we both had breakfast which was of average quality but was quite expensive for what you got, it was overall not a great experience and we would not go again.

Small restaurant but lovely home cooked food. Gets quite busy (even in winter) so would be wise to book.

My 7 year old granddaughter suggest we go for Sunday roast, her favourite meal. It was a little difficult trying to carry a full plated dinner back upstairs to our table, but there was a good selection of meats and vegetable choices. However, the roast potatoes were extremely salty and the roasted baby parsnips were way too peppery, which was disappointing. The counter staff and waitress were very helpful especially to our granddaughter, but overall it was quite cramped and a rather mixed dining experience, although I got the impression there were a lot of ‘regulars’

Sat upstairs as there was a group of us, lacked atmosphere, over priced, slow service. I didn’t have a drink as I didn’t feel comfortable there. This isn’t the first time I visited but will be the last as both times I felt the. SMe. Good parking though.

Nice roadside place on the way to Yelverton. Has outside seating and road noise. The choices on the menu looked good. When the food came it wasn't presented on the plate very well but tasted very nice and the lattes we ordered were very good. Staff were very pleasant.

I have been here a few times in the past but I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the food today. Although we only had jacket potatoes all three of them had burnt potatoes on the plates, it wasn’t just burnt on the outside but on the inside too. Whilst waiting for our food a man came to the door with German shepherd, one of the waitresses petted the dog, tried to encourage the dog to go towards the kitchen obviously to greet one of the chefs, the waitress didn’t wash her hands after petting the dog she just went straight back to her jobs. Kinda put me off eating there if I was honest

Tried the Dartmoor Diner again after staying away for a long time due to lots of bad issues. It's still bad!! They've changed the menu and reduced the selection. I rang ahead and asked what roast meal was being offered last Saturday and I was told it was roast lamb and roast turkey. Lovely, so I booked a table for 4 at 12.30. We arrived, sat down and immediately the roast turkey was wiped off the board. It wasn't busy at all so I can't believe they'd sold out that quickly, it was probably the day before's food. I don't like lamb so I chose gammon. Yuck, really thin, dry as a bone, really overcooked and tough, and sooo salty, cold soggy peas and wet chips. Another family member had this too and theirs was exactly the same. I ate some and then told the waitress it was bad. She just mouthed 'sorry bout that' and took the plates away. That was it. We won't be giving them a third chance, the staff have changed but the food's gone right down hill now!! Back to The Rock!!

The service here is great and the waitress who served us couldn’t be more helpful. However the food was mediocre and I’ve probably had better in Morrisons supermarket cafe. We came for breakfast and the choice was fairly limited. Part of my order was missing initially and only arrived once I’d started. It’s a convenient location and service is great but the food is nothing to write home about.

Stopped here on the way back from Tavistock. It was very busy and we had not booked but the young lady who dealt with us was very polite and gave us a table when one became free shortly after we arrived. The menu has a good choice and is reasonably priced. The waitress assisted again when the table we were allocated was not suitable for my wife and she re-allocated us. All in all it was a good meal in an excellent setting.

We went for a walk on the moor and have previously been to the diner for a cuppa. The weather turned and got caught in a heavy hail storm. We had our 9 month old baby with us and he was getting cold and wet so we ran to the diner to be turned away as they were fully booked. Three tables left in the time we were stood waiting and there where a further 2 tables that were empty and still had the mess from previous customers. The man who I’m assuming was the manager was really rude and tutted several times at me because I was stood waiting. We turned to leave and I said to my partner I’ll grab us a take away tea. Went back in to ask and the same man was again very rude and told me ‘Wait!’

Awesome. Don’t judge a book by its cover. I arrived late evening for work over a couple of days. The staff couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful from getting me a taxi late evening at the train station to helping me get to my work venue in the morning. I had arrived past restaurant hours but the staff were more than happy to prepare food if I had wanted. I was also given a local delicacy from a local. I’m normally a poor sleeper but slept so well. Whilst the rooms at first appearance look a little dated the bed is so so comfy. The room also spotlessly clean. The question is - what’s more important to you - a great nights sleep or a sterile environment with mod cons? Sadly the first morning I didn’t have chance to sample the breakfast- I didn’t have time to wait. They have a sign saying ‘We don’t serve fast food. We serve fresh food as fast as we can”. Suffice to say I ordered my breakfast for the following morning before I went to bed so it was ready for me when I needed it. Now for the highlight DINNER. I eat a lot and this is definitely one of the best meals I had in a long time. Not the usual processed pub food. The main(stuffed chicken with root veg and dauphinois potatoes was delicious. I never order dessert but felt I had to - the main was so good. The sticky toffee pudding did not disappoint. Overall a really great stay. Thanks so much

Strange but quaint place to get to. Be prepared for a staircase, a handrail on both sides, and you'll need it to, to climb upstairs. Once upstairs, we were approached by a smiling member of staff, who said, "Sit where you like." The floor slopes, but once seated, it seems you forget. We all had Devon cream & jam scone with a cup of coffee each. Wow, the scone freshly made earlier, was warm. It just melted in your mouth. Once you got the jam & cream on, or is it cream & jam. My aunt & I had a latte & my husband & uncle had a cappuccino. Stand carefully for the loo, you may fall. There is only one unisex toilet. We paid and left. Back down the staircase again....the restaurant is above a shop, which is situated by the museum. Not for disabled people..though I made it with my walking stick. No car parking.

I booked 2 nights for friends online, i had some simple questions about parking and accessibility but couldn't get hold of anyone to answer my questions so i cancelled. I cancelled nearly 1 month before the cut off for a full 100% refund ( clearly stated in their contract when booking) . I then spent nearly 2 months calling, emailing, leaving voicemails to get my money back - they ignored every one. In the end I had to claim the money back via my bank. If my bank hadnt stepped in and help, this establishment would have stolen over £400 from me. I am writing to hopefully sway others and stop them doing the same to others
