We wanted to try Root's menu - it looked interesting and innovative - but we were pleasantly surprised by the ambience and approach to lunch service. A lot of the dishes were understated in their presentation, but there's obviously a (justified) confidence in the cooking. No need for flowery garnishes, just great dishes. There's a great skill in creating plates that look inviting rather than intimidating, and that draw unforseen levels of flavour from potentially unpromising ingredients - celeriac, for instance. Everything was enjoyable, and comforting on a cold December day in exactly the way we had hoped. Excellent.

Lovely cappuccino and the staff were friendly and helpful. Friends that I was with had lunch and they had dietary needs, that the staff were really great with and offered alternatives. We were made to feel welcome throughout our visit and I will definitely be back again.

Christmas has arrived at the Long Story Bistro in Wells, I actually felt christmassy for the first time this year when I arrived at this wonderful, cafe/restaurant. Such a lovely warm welcome as always from there delightful staff. Perfectly crafted coffee and scrumptious cake, I had the carrot and pistachio cake delicious and beautifully presented. I highly recommend a visit when visiting Wells.

Service initially good. Place was cold so Sat with coats on asked to turn heating up but owner away and no access to this gor the one staff doing all the running. 5 out of 6 meals at best only ok, one meal not charged as foreign item found in food. Desserts 4 not good chewy and tastless. Will not go again

Bishop need to try his/her own cafe. What a terrible place to eat. food was cold, coffee's were cold and the service was diabolical. Young servers just stand around chatting while constantly playing with their hair and rubbing their noses. All very off putting. Our order was wrong, and we waited way too long on a quiet day.

Lovely cafe tucked away 1 minute from the hustle and bustle of the High Street. Friendly, welcoming staff, allow well-behaved dogs (especially handy when raining!), delicious food, we had a yummy lunch. Great place to visit for brunch, lunch, afternoon cuppa and cake. Near to the Bishopâs Palace, a great park and the Cathedral.

Arrived just as menu was turning from breakfast to lunch. Breakfast looked fantastic but just too late. Lunch menu, home made offerings, friendly staff and warm atmosphere. Worth a visit Great location in the centre of Wells.
