Long Story Bistro in Mendip

This lovely café is a regular of mine, such warm, genuine and friendly service and the food is always absolutely delicious, with lots to choose. I went in recently just for a coffee. I was quite down, I having one of those bad days and all of a sudden I was presented with a delicious piece of complimentary cake. Completely made my day. What a lovely random act of kindness. thank you Long Story Bistro I highly recommend a visit when you’re Wells. xjx

A wonderful little cafe! We come here regularly- it is very cosy & there is a wide variety on the menu. It is great to see an independent bistro so busy! Perfect for if you looking for a meal out or a new coffee spot to come again & again. They also take bookings!

Lovely fresh food, not long to wait and beautifully presented. Friendly service and a good choice on the menu. Hubby had pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. I had avocado with feta and poached eggs on sourdough toast. Would definitely recommend. We had breakfast menu, but the lunches look amazing too. And good coffee!

Visiting Wells for the day and stumbled across this small cafe/restaurant. Lovely atmosphere, staff friendly and attentive. We had delicious coffee and scones. Would definitely return and try lunch.

The service was great and the food was lovely. The staff were friendly and it is in a good location. If you are ever in Wells I would check it out.

Used to be to love this place but the quality seems to have dropped off. Had a panini with chips and salad. The salad was very watery. The water pooled on the plate and made the Panini soggy!! Also at nearly £12 I thought this was expensive. The cafe looks a bit tatty with a mish mash of decoration. Sadly won't be going again. A shame as it used to be a little gem.

This café is an absolute delight. Independently run and deserves to be supported, the coffee is delicious and perfectly made. The food is excellent and always beautifully presented. Went in for breakfast today with our dog and were warmly greeted by the owner and his family. Coffee and food were amazing. Eggs Benedict and Avocado, feta and poached eggs were some of the best we have had. Will definitely call in again. A regular stream of locals/regulars flowed in as we ate proving a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere. Graham.

Such a lovely lunch stop! The decor & the gentle jazz music really made it for me. The menu is extensive, so I went with the Vegetarian Platter to try something different, & it didn’t disappoint! Definitely a must visit if you are visiting Wells, & good to support an independent cafe ◡̈

Quite a nice little place really. Went for breakfast. Wife and daughter had the loaded croissants and I had the larger breakfast. Wasn't a bad size, although 2 sausages would have been better. Food was good though, can't fault it really. Staff pleasant too.

I didn’t like the staff not being in uniform. A small stepper was next to where the staff where working which was a hazard. The girl said they couldn’t do hot drinks with soya milk which was total nonsense when I’ve worked as a barista and have done hot drinks with soya milk no problem. The lighter breakfast we had I thought was done with ingredients from a wholesaler than locally sourced produce. Sausage was like you’d get from a greasy spoon so not premium quality. I didn’t like the Potentious dollops of sauce on the breakfast I had. I also noticed on the menu pasta carbonara which classically is just egg yolk, pancetta and parmesan with the cooking water from the pasta added in gently off the heat to create the creamy texture. If you are going to put these dishes on your menu make them how they should be so without double cream. There was also no vegan options

The Bald and I went for breakfast. His usual haunt is Wetherspoons. I managed to make the quality over quantity argument, and on this occasion I won. Well this little restaurant did not disappoint. Freshly cooked Eggs Benedict (really though, Benedict is ham, Royale is Salmon) so you could do with correcting this to start. But nothing else needs correcting. The egg is were cooked to perfection. Soft firm egg whites with a creamy runny yolk. The salmon had the perfect amount of smoke and did not overpower the eggs. Muffins were nicely toasted, watercress and balsamic garnish and a generous hollandaise sauce. Delish. The Bald chose the smashed avocado with salmon and scrambled eggs on sourdough. Eggs seemed to be a mix of scrambled and chopped boiled eggs. Equally delicious. Generous orange juice but the Bald was disappointed with his pot of tea. He said it tasted tangy and wondered if it was one of those airy fairy Earl Grey or the likes. Definitely not up to the standard of his usual Yorkshire tea. Great all round. Definitely recommend. Service was fine.
