Friendly service. Nice window seats for watching the world go by. Great coffee but the highlight is home made cakes. Even the pastries. So rare!

Exceptional coffee, one of the best I've had. We came near to closing time, and the owner was very lovely and let us stay at our lesiure. Great customer servie, had a variety of coffies, and all were exemplary.

Asked a local for the best coffee - they sent me to this great cafe. The coffee was good (went back again) and the cakes delicious. Believe me, it's hard to get good coffee in UK (generality, but valid) and this place is just excellent. Very friendly owner and inviting space. Highly recommend.

A real hidden little gem of a coffee shop near St.Cuthbert church. Activity searched out after seeing a review on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. A really lovely warm welcome and a recommendation on a cake that did not disappoint. A must visit for a coffee pit stop in wells!

This is one of my favourite coffee spots . Consistently excellent coffee , great atmosphere , fantastic customer service. Having moved back to England last year this is one of my go to places.

So glad I found this place whilst I was riding through Wells on my bike. The staff were extremely friendly and the food and drink excellent. I needed to refuel so had an americano, sausage roll and carrot cook. Everything was delicious. They were happy for me to stow my bike, sit outside and top up my water bottles. I was even given an anti histamine tablet as I had been stung by a wasp or bee earlier on in the day. Family run I think and it was great to meet Lewis (adventurer and barista) and his Mum. I would recommend it.

Saw the reviews on here for this place, so had to give it a try. I wish we hadn’t bothered. It’s a very small place, and the small number of seats are restrictive. But there was only two other people in, so got a couple of seats. I ordered two lattes, extra hot as we always do. He brought the coffees to us with a lovely pattern on the top. They were nice and creamy. Only problem was was, they were lukewarm. It’s no good getting the milk extra hot and then putting it in cold cups. Good baristas do not do this. Also the mobile data in Wells is appalling, so I asked him if they had Wi-Fi? Nope. We drank the lukewarm coffee in a couple of minutes and left, never to go back.

Came here twice in the same day trip to Wells as it’s so good. The coffee is awesome, as is the mocha. Some cake options too. You can sit in or outside in the cute garden space. Lovely vibe. This IS the best coffee you are going to find anywhere in Wells or close by. Make it a stop on your trip to Wells.

I love an independent coffee shop & this place was excellent. Fantastic coffees (flat whites), lovely crockery, friendly barista & nice selection of cakes, all home baked I believe on the premises. We had a friand & a Bakewell which were lovely. You won’t stumble on this place as it’s off the main streets but you’ll find it just behind the Cathedral & near to the bus station car park. Good spot& glad we visited.

Amazing Little independent coffee shop only a min or two from the town centre. Coffee was expertly made )this coming from a self confessed coffee snob) carrot cake was Devine, perfectly moist and the frosting on top was perfect. Both the Barista Lewis, who has run the length of New Zealand 3000kms btw, and the server, (sorry didn’t get your name) were delightful to talk too. It gave us the perfect start to our day walking around the city. And it’s AllPress coffee so it’s that is a win too😁

Lovely independent coffee shop. Latte was so nice I had two and husband’s hot chocolate was nicest he’s had in a while. Worth finding this coffee shop rather than settling for one of the larger chains further up the high street.

Met friends in Wells and had seen this cafe on Tripadvisor.....great name, great coffee. Small and friendly . Cakes looked nice but we didn't have any. Friendly staff...didn't rush us out. Would go back.

Myself and my husband came here for lunch at the end of our holiday to Somerset and we were not disappointed. The coffee was excellent, (my husband had coffee), and I had a great pot of loose leaf earl grey tea. We both had a falafel and salad wrap with hummus and tzasiki and to finish we shared a homemade sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and were very kindly given an extra scoop of ice cream as we were sharing. Ivan and Susan were really welcoming and helpful hosts and we would not hesitate to recommend this cafe to anyone visiting Wells.

Popped in here during a very wet morning in Wells, based on the good reviews. The food, drink and service was really lovely. Although the coffee is popular here, we opted for tea and it came with a tea timer - brilliant!

I took my son and his girlfriend (both vegans and one who is gluten intolerant) for coffee and cakes at Strangers. Nothing was too much trouble for Ivan and Sue, and the coffees made with oat milk and the vegan chocolate cake were very well received indeed. This is such a special little place and the owners are so keen to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Keep up the good work! We shall certainly be back ...

Friends visiting over the new year ish period said they wanted to pop into Strangers, having seen a weekend review about the place in 'The Sunday Times' Travel supplement recently. So pop in with them we did and, ( much as we'd expected to be honest), Ivan and Susan did not disappoint.

I have been to Strangers with Coffee many times. It is top of my list of places to go whenever I visit family in Somerset. The service is brilliant, the coffee is fabulous and the food is fantastic. It is always clean and the decor is brill. I liked this coffee shop so much that I wrote a review of it on my blog. (orangecoffee69@blogspot.com)

I have visited on a few occasions and have never found whst I want. The bread is brown only, no choice of white. It is thick (Very) sliced. Always have it dictated to that the proprietor’s wife is the best sandwich maker in the country (she is not) and always msde to feel that it is a privalage to be “allowed” to eat there. My least favourite place in Wells

If you 'like coffee', you don't really count as someone who knows their coffee, do you, be honest. However, if you love coffee then we're on the same song sheet and I urge you to visit SWC and Ivan will create a dream in a cup for you. Cannot fault it.

Ate lunch in here for the first time. Chose from their excellent selection of wraps. I plumped for the chorizo, scrambled egg and roasted tomatoes. Very tasty.

Wells has a piece of my heart...”stranger with coffee”. This was my go to place every morning when I was in wells. Now I’m 5 hours drive away and I miss this place so much. But this doesn’t stop me coming back for quality.

Believe me, you want a coffee and maybe a snack or lunch just go there. Best there is ☕️🥪🍰 avoid the high street chains and get fantastic knowledge and expertise from the couple that run this small and friendly outfit. Great little place.

On a weekend away in Wells we found this gem for breakfast. You could tell it was popular by the amount of people going in and out. It is quite a small place and tables were limited, we were lucky to get the breakfast bar in the window as lots of people weren’t so lucky.

Came across this fantastic coffee shop whilst on a short break in Wells, and would thoroughly recommend a visit. We visited twice within a couple of days, and if we lived nearby it would definitely be a regular haunt.

Went there for a quick cuppa with my daughter. Lovely place, very nice owner, good coffee, divine brownies :) There is also a good selection of sandwiches and lunch dishes - all food is locally sourced when possible. Highly recommended!

Dont go wookey hole for food go here. Not coffee drinkers but its smelled great and he knows his coffee. We had 2 wraps and they were amazing. A must do for lunch and really friendly and cosy.

Cosy little coffee shop a little was off the main high street. SwC serves some of the best coffee you could hope to find anywhere, complimented by tasty made-to-order sandwiches and wraps. Owners are really friendly and you can tell he takes his coffee very seriously.

This cafe is off the beaten track - you're not likely to wander past it in Wells - but it's actually only a couple of minutes walk from the shops one way and the bus station the other. Almost opposite the impressive parish church, that has the highest tower in Somerset, and which is well worth a look inside.

In spite of visiting Wells several times each year we didn't know about Strangers with Coffee until finding it on tripadvisor. With such good reviews we just had to try it and we weren't disappointed. We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped inside. Sadly we only had time for morning coffee and a croissant. Croissant fine and coffee just divine. Next time we'll try a lunch as well.

We read the reviews, so decided to stop for coffee. The latte and Americano were made perfectly. We had the homemade chicken pate (the red onion marmalade was delicious) and beet salad with goat cheese for lunch. Both were outstanding. Ivan and Susan own the restaurant – Ivan is very entertaining and engaging. Susan is the chef. It was a great experience. We highly recommend a stop if in Wells.

I rang in advance and asked if I could reserve a table as we were a party of 5 wanting coffee and lunch. Ivan and Susan are wonderful hosts serving excellent coffee and quality home made lunches and beautifully moist freshly made cakes. Relatives from abroad used to good coffee shops were very impressed. Small cafe....big impression.

Although it is a VERY tiny cafe, the coffee they serve is second to none. I am definately a coffee snob and appreciate good coffee after being a barista myself for many years. Cakes are also delicious including my favourite the vegan chocolate cake! My favourite place to pick up a coffee on the go.

I have been coming to Strangers with coffee for several years now and make sure to visit whenever I am in Wells. The coffee is, without fail, brilliant - whether its a flat white made with the house or (regularly rotating) guest espresso or a perfectly prepared filter. Ivan is an incredibly knowledgeable and talented barista. Sue's homemade cakes are delicious and there's usually something vegan or gluten free on offer. The breakfast and lunch menus focus on high quality local produce - the sandwiches are second to none. The atmosphere is always warm and friendly with a lovely mixture of die hard regulars and visitors. I cannot recommend Strangers highly enough.

We are local and have been going here for coffee for about a year. We don't have coffee in the big chains anymore.

Followed the advice of Trip Advisor and was not dissaponted. Warm Friendly Welcoming Hosts, Wonderful service and delicious snacks and Coffee. Shame we are not closer as we would frequent there a lot. Top of the list when back in Wells.

Strangers with coffee is a cafe (not a restaurant as Tripadvisor seems to think) and is situated just off the centre of Wells opposite the beautiful St Cuthbert's Church. Because of its location and the fact that it is tucked away amongst a row of small terraced houses it is not discovered by many tourists. But anyone who lives in Wells and the surrounding know they serve the very best tasting coffee (includes decaffeinated) in the city. The charming couple who own and run the business make you very welcome and the excellent coffee I matched by very good quality cafe food very well cooked/prepared. Wells is a popular tourist destination (England's smallest city) and there are many very good cafes so it is quite an achievement for this small establishment to beat all the others for great coffee. I go there regularly.

This cafe seems out of the way but boy is the coffee fantastic. Best flat white I've had in England. Combine this with very friendly service and you have yourself a winner! Would highly recommend to anyone looking to get a fantastic coffee.

We made our third visit here (the interim one since my last review being very soon after that and just as good as the first visit) for lunch on our way back home from an overnight stay in Devon (involving a very lengthy detour).

Llamamos para café, a media mañana, y estuvimos encantados con el servicio genial y bastante excepcional café. El Cortado estaba muy rico y aromático. Ahora son lo suficientemente comunes en Londres, pero estupendo ver este pequeño café aquí en Wells. Cómo tener el fabuloso también propietario venga a charlar, y responder a nuestras preguntas, así informado, sobre la granos de café utilizado. Stranges con café es genial. Llevé a mi nuera para un almuerzo encantador por extraños. Aparcamos 10 pies de distancia, literalmente al otro lado de la calle (! ) que nos dio una hora relajado. El café es sólo increíblemente buenas. No he encontrado nada mejor en todo el Reino Unido. La comida es casera, fresca y deliciosa. El menú no es demasiado larga para creerlo, pero da variedad suficiente. Uno de nosotros tenía un sandwich de carne hermosa y el otro el delicioso queso de cabra y remolachas una tostada. Todos disfrutamos mucho. Se llevaron pastel para un regalo para parientes ancianos y fue muy bien recibido en efecto. Gracias Ivan y Sue. ¡Volveremos!

I first reviewed Strangers ages ago, and it continues to produce the best coffee in Wells and would be top of the heap even in nearby Bristol and Bath. Since I first reviewed it, Ivan (the Barista) has added a rotating guest espresso, single origin pour overs and (in Summer) cold brew to the menu, which means that not only is there a reliable, beautifully made house coffee, you can regularly try new, seasonal brews, too. Susan's cakes and food never disappoints, and her sandwiches, made with bread from a local mill, are a staple (roast beef or bacon and egg are my go to options). There's always a range of cakes, with both vegan and gluten free options usually available. Can't recommend this place enough. I always make a point of popping in when visiting my family in the area.
