The whole evening was really very special. The food was outstanding; not only the amazing flavours but also the attention to detail and amount of work that had clearly gone into the dishes. Having Alex and his team take the time to present and explain each of the courses made it a unique experience. My husband and I both felt it was the best tasting menu and the most enjoyable experience we have had.

As always, the food part of lunch at the Estate Grill was superb. However the service was absolutely shocking and let down the whole experience. On arrival, there weren’t enough menus for our party and no children’s menu was provided for my son. I resorted to using the online version of the children’s menu, which later transpired to be out of date and what my son wanted to order wasn’t available. We ordered bread for the table and crudités for my son which then arrived with the main meal. Not ideal. I can’t though fault the food at all - delicious as always. On finishing our meal, we then had to wait nearly an hour for the table to be cleared. We had asked for desert menus and when these hadn’t arrived after 30 minutes, I went to request them and for our table to be cleared (we were outside so were starting to be bothered by flies and wasps on the dirty plates). When we arrived, the table next to us was being used by a wedding party for drinks. They left shortly after we arrived and the table remained uncleared the entire time we were there. We were celebrating a birthday, indicated on the booking, and no acknowledgement was made of this. It honestly feels like every time we come to Great Fosters now, there is a problem. It’s really quite embarrassing for the hotel, which used to be spectacular and which we have been visiting (including hosting our wedding reception) for almost 20 years. The new owners need to have a rethink of their service model because what we experienced today was not a premium level of service and we will seriously think twice about booking again.

If you are on here searching for a great place to have breakfast or brunch then, honestly, get in Joe's and get eating. It's an honest, old school cafe. A proper cafe cup of tea and fry up. No frills, just mouth watering proper sausage, egg, beans, toast, bacon, black pudding and hash browns..... Hungry yet? Just do it! Also, lovely lady that runs it (embarrassingly I don't know her name after numerous visits) who also makes lovely coffee to take away. Thanks.

Afternoon tea. We arrived after having a spa treatment, there were 2 other people having food but they were towards then end of their meal and ready to pay. We were seated, and given the tea options but there was no real description of what the teas were on offer as no one explained and very few had labels on. After waiting for a bit someone came over and asked what tea we wanted, the teas arrived quite swiftly but they neglected to bring over the tea strainer so we had to wait a little bit longer for someone to come back into the room so we could ask for one. Shortly after the food arrived, well presented, they gave us each a tower with a few sandwiches and some cakes and Scones. Everything was just OK not amazing. Service was a bit slow, I had to go out to the reception area to ask if I could pay the bill as no one else was around. It's a nice place just very slow service and very quiet. I bet in the summer it is nice to sit on the veranda. Would I return maybe but probably not for afternoon tea.

My son phoned beforehand and specifically asked for information regarding the SWIMMING POOL and when he arrived the pool was closed!!! How could the receptionist possibly fail to notice this? Its a joke really Luckily my son lives locally but its still extremely annoying and reprehensible

We booked in for a Valentine’s meal, and I hadn’t seen the messaging sent out about there being a set menu. We felt awful as there were a couple of things on the menu we weren’t too keen on, we are probably too fussy, but the staff were so accommodating, offering us the opportunity to have the things on the menu we liked and at a reduced price. This made our evening, as we were treated like individuals and not just another customer, it’s not often you get service like that. We will definitely be back as the food we had was sublime, from the home made bread with truffle butter, the melt in the mouth beef and a truly decadent tiramisu. Thanks for making our evening so special, when it would have been easier to just tell us that there was nothing you could do. We left smiling and full and with a complimentary red rose which was very sweet.
