We have been regulars of Leftbank and visited in multiple occasions both for their Sunday roast and dinner on Saturdays and it’s always been great. They are closing the restaurant today for renovations so we thought we would go dine yesterday before it closes for a period. We were really disappointed with the food this time. Was not as varied as usual but that is a minor inconvenient, the problem was most of the food was lukewarm and clearly made a while ago and sat there. Everything we ate was dry and reheated. The meat, the roasted potatoes… really a shame. We loved the place but if this is the new standard then we sadly won’t be coming back

The buffet has reopened after refurb. It isn’t anywhere as good as was before refurbishing. The quality and choice of food are both poor. The staff are friendly and helpful, but low in numbers which affected service. A group of friends were regulars, but we will not be returning.

Sunday Lunch @ £35 pp Starters were amazing - appearance & taste. Carvery was a huge disappointment. We had the beef which was tender but tasteless. Potatoes were warm & bland. Carrots overcooked & lukewarm. Braised red cabbage overcooked but tasty. Cauliflower cheese ok but no hint of cheese. Yorkshires were very dark & tasted so. Puddings looked an absolute joy but again the ones we selected had very little taste. All in all with two set meals @ £35 pp plus two glasses of wine (not the expensive variety) & a half beer plus service came out at just over £99! The restaurant was busy & extremely noisy - not a good dining experience to say the least. Looking at other diners it appeared to be quantity rather than quality.

The buffet is only for hotel guests. Some reviewers seemed to have traveled for said buffet, so we were under the impression it was open for everyone . We were offered a limited option menu and a seat outside the restaurant. We could have remained at Great Fosters where we were staying. The staff were very nonchalant. So underwhelmed.

Firstly my expectation of this place was high due to the reviews about the buffet style Sunday Roast. My partner and I made the 100 mile round trip specifically to experience what everyone else had. I have to say that the selection and the food did not disappoint, nor did the dessert section. However, the lack of service and the overall atmosphere was where the restaurant lost me. My partner and I went up multiple times to try different sections so each time we finished a plate, we left it on the side of the table for it to be collected but at one point we had 6 plates on the table not being taken away. The staff were clearly not too busy as there was about 3 in the restaurant alone and around 5-6 tables of people. There was also hardly any atmosphere as the dining area was quiet and no music or background sounds. We understand not everywhere can play music but the result was a very flat feeling dining experience. The one bit that really got us was when my partner kindly asked if we could get a takeaway box as she had a few bits leftover on her plate and didn’t want it to go to waste. We asked a member of staff who said he needed to check with his manager, the manager came over and told us that they didn't have, “Any appropriate containers for our food”. We asked if there was anything else that could possibly be used and she said no. We were very surprised as we’d had afternoon tea there about 2 weeks prior. I also noted that the words used were “appropriate containers”. At the end, when paying the bill I asked the member of staff and was told that, “Actually we have foil but we were told that it doesn’t look good to give people foil”. The fact that we were not even offered the foil seems a bit like cutting corners at the expense of their guests - it might not have looked fantastic but it would have saved a lot of food being thrown away for no reason and it would have meant we could have enjoyed the food that we paid for at another time when we didn’t have a 50 mile journey ahead of us. Out of principle I should have taken off the service charge but I think I was still in shock when I was paying. We won’t be returning as this really left a bad taste in our mouth, given that it was £45pp with service charge and the experience really wasn’t worth the drive or the price in my opinion.

We're really going to miss this place when Warners take over. This has been a treat destination restaurant for locals and SW Londoners like us for many years. It's the only hotel restaurant we visit as non residents. All staff were friendly and engaging as ever. We went last Sunday and the food was great. Great selection of starters, mains and desserts as part of their buffet offering. Oddly the service was really poor, unattentive and frustrating. It wasn't busy at all and plenty of staff for the 5 tables occupied. We kept being overlooked. It's rare that I ask for the service charge to me removed but did this time. The food made up for the lack of service but unlikely going back. Furthermore we asked for a little bit of food bagged up this resulted in a disclaimer having to be signed in case of food poisoning including signed by a witness. I have never experienced that before and seems overkill. We came to eat not to review and sign legal documents...

The food was great. Starter, main and desert buffet. Lots of choice, very healthy selection. We went for the unlimited prosecco offer with the buffet. It's supposed to be unlimited for 90 mins but they really stop offering it to you after an hour. Clientele is different. Either retired or groups or women on a Saturday afternoon. We were unfortunate to have been placed next to a really loud group of women who really gave me a headache and ruined my experience. I did complain to two waiters but they neither offered us another table or asked the women to tone down. I was pretty disappointed and am not sure I'd go back again.

I have been coming here for years. The starters and desserts selection are great and incredibly delicious. The Sunday roasts are just OK for me now. When you have to argue with the "chef" that you want it rear, and he says that's all he has (well done, not even medium), when you can see in the back, 10 more roast pieces, you wonder. Attitude for him was more important than service. The service otherwise is great. Except for that "younger chef"...

Having frequented this restaurant for about 6 years, I have steadily seen the decline in its food offerings . Not only variety of food but also quality of food seems to have deteriorated . This year I have been twice - once for my dads birthday (birthday fruit plate seemed to be a challenge with a happy birthday written on it and reservations needed to check with chef £12 charge and they couldn’t put his name on the plate as were too busy- and also they had said we could just pick our own fruit off the buffet instead !!). I was annoyed at the reservations conversation at the time but let it slide but now that I am writing this review , feel it prudent to mention .(in March ) Second time was on Thursday with the children - mediocre food and variety poor . Mains especially sad choice and poor quality - dry and fatty and minimal hot vegetable options . Maybe also change the dessert plates so that you can have a choice of the small desserts on offer. Team always polite and efficient .

4.5 star. We ate in the Leftbank as part of a spa weekend. The buffet dinner was included in our spa break, but not drinks. That's fine as that's what we expected. A service charge of around 12.5% is added to the bill at the end for every time you are at the Leftbank restaurant or in the lounge. The buffet is not how I have experienced a buffet before, it's how I would describe a "posh buffet". The waiters will serve drinks to your table and are very quick at clearing away your dirty plates and glasses. A place is set at your table along with cutlery and a serviette before you arrive at your table. The waiters will also happily bring you any extra cutlery you want and are very attentive. Was a good experience with plenty of choice for different foods at a high quality on offer. With the chef located behind the main dishes area on hand to answer any questions you may have. The extra touch of a birthday dessert plate was nice as well for my Husbands Birthday. On arrival to the Leftbank restaurant for breakfast we were given the option to eat in another restaurant that they had set aside for adults staying at the hotel without children, which was a nice option for a quieter breakfast. The staff at breakfast were friendly and attentive. The food was ok, nothing spectacular to say.

Amazing buffet dinner so much choice and the presentation was excellent. Do like buffets as being a fussy eater there is always something I can eat. Restaurant very clean which is always a good point and any accidents were cleared up straightaway. The lady who showed us to our table explained all about the buffet. Think my nephew had a prob with the pulled pork so went up to get something different, prob solved. Drinks as you expect for a luxury hotel were expensive but hey ho enjoyed my wine. All staff friendly. This is a family restaurant and if we go back again we will book a later sitting as a crying baby and two restless children made it uncomfortable for me to concentrate on my guests.

We had a family meal at the buffet restaurant today. We were seated but not informed about the buffet and what was available etc. The starters looked as though they had been sitting there all afternoon to the extent the salad leaves were warm!Very minimal selection. The carvery area, the beef was full of fat, the chicken looked dry and the pork stringy. We asked what fish it was to be informed the server was not sure as he didn’t sort the fish today! No label was present! Minimal selection of warm vegetables. The desserts were about the only thing that enthused us. The waiters were not attentive other than to ask was it all ok? And when asked for the bill stood over us with the card machine! All in all a terrible experience and we won’t be returning. Extremely overpriced and charged service yet it’s a buffet

Similar to previous reviews, I have no problem this is a buffet, the starters and desserts were excellent- I felt the mains were quite limited. The main issue is the price - incredibly expensive for a buffet (£100 for 2x adults, 2 x children) and how they can justify a 10% service charge when you get the food yourselves is genuinely beyond me - 10% of your whole meal for somebody to take your empty plate ? Nice restaurant, nice location, just overpriced for what they are offering.

We went here on a Sunday afternoon for the buffet experience priced at £38 per adult. The 4 of us were seated at a better table after asking to be moved from our original table. The lovely host accommodated us no problem. The choice of starters were very good and the quality was really good. We then move onto the mains which were nothing short of inedible. I appreciate the roasts sit under a heat lamp, but both the rib of beef and pulled pork shoulder were extremely dry & tough. The beef in particular was big chunks and hard to cut and the pork looked like string. However the roast chicken was nice. Our waitress (Annabel) was very nice throughout and she was very apologetic after we asked for the manager to offer feedback. He approached the table(Liam) and was equally as nice, sorry for the poor experience and he hoped that "something as minor as the meat" that it wouldn't spoil our day. (The meat is the showcase). I can honestly say it was the worst meat we have ever eaten. Moving onto dessert these were equally as good as the starters. You must try the bread & butter pudding....devine. Service recovery was offered & accepted by us, which we were grateful for, but ideally would have preferred to enjoy the mains too.

Used to be good, but had a poor experience last night. We went as a family of four and had a meal in the left bank restaurant. The table service was quite poor and the bill had a £13 service charge slapped on automatically. The total bill was £126 plus tip, making £139. I left £130 truly believing it was sufficient under the circumstances. The waiter came back twice saying it wasn't enough money. I explained once that the service charge was optional and that I have left enough including an appropriate tip. This was rejected and the waiter again insisted I pay the full amount as it was not enough. I explained again about the tip. He came back yes again to query how I would make up the shortfall in the bill. I was forced to stand my ground and insist in front of everyone that I wasn't paying the full tip. Automatically slapping on £13 tip for poor service is one thing. To then repeatedly question and confront a customer over not paying the full tip in front of everyone is quite another thing altogether. I left the restaurant feeling both humiliation at the confrontation but also annoyance knowing that actually I was right. The tip is optional, discretionary, and voluntary. Putting it automatically on the bill could be seen as a helpful reminder, thank you, if you want to see it that way, but repeatedly insisting it is paid and that I have made a mistake in leaving a smaller tip and ignoring my explanation is just plain wrong.

Not great for vegetarians I was really looking forward to our night out here, and it was going well with the starters, so I eagerly went over to the mains section and was greeted with all meat and fish options. When I asked the chef what he had for vegetarians he pointed at the fish. In the end I ordered some noodles, which turned up so salty I couldn't eat it. So I've given a 3 for starters and dessert and atmosphere, but really disappointing that there was not a thought given to vegetarians. There were 5 in our group alone.

On the day a friend warned me that she had recently felt the quality wasn't as previously experienced.Service was as good as always but the food was disappointing. We all loved the selection of starters but when it came to the mains, every meat on the table was over cooked and dry. Being early in the week it wasn't very busy; a member of my party was able to see people leaving the buffet. The tray of chicken joints remained largely untouched and was under a heat lamp for the 2 hours we were there. No wonder everything was dried out. There are a choice of specials on a board but these weren't pointed out to us and we noticed them after we had finished, we weren't told. I 'm not sure I would rush to return, which is a real shame.

Not many options or varieties, the only thing that was nice was the two tiny bits of lamb we were given. Desserts were awful and dry. Also had breakfast which was slightly better but still not worth it for the price. Scrambled egg is tasteless watery mush with a crust on top, 4 different types of bacon that taste the same and full of fat. The sausages however were lovely. I'd say for that price range it's one of the worst meals we have had.

The selection of food, in particular the mains buffet, was poor. The roast beef was burnt to a crisp. The lamb tasted of...I'm not sure what it tasted of but it certainly didn't taste of lamb. No one had the chicken so I can't comment on that. Probably the best section was the starters buffet. Quite a comprehensive selection. The desserts were pretty average. The custard was like water ! I was, like all the guests at the table, very disappointed in the quality of the food and for sure will not be returning here. The price you pay for this buffet is not cheap and therefore you expect something much better than what you'd get at the Toby Carvery.! . The service was probably the only good thing. No complaints there. I would not recommend going to this buffet based on my experience last night.

Have always wanted to go here, so booked for our Anniversary. We were lucky to have a window seat with a view of the river which was good in spite of the rain! The meal was excellent, with appetiser buffet, then fresh pulled beef, lamb shepherds pie and tasty spicy chicken kebabs. There was a variety of vegetables, new roasted potatoes, etc. The desserts were excellent too, as was the service! They also served us a chocolate anniversary dish, very thoughtful, thanks and thoroughly recommend this for a special occasion!

I've eaten here several times and have always been impressed. On this occasion I visited for Halloween lunch with family and, whilst the restaurant was quite busy, standards were still maintained. Excellent choice of starters, varied and interesting main courses (the beef pie was a delight!) and tempting desserts. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Halloween too. We'll return one day.

We really enjoyed our breakfasts both uk and continental. Also live cooking is well catered, something enjoyable for everyone. No staff bothering, really helpful and polite. Yes a la carte is also great but leftbank isan easy option!

My friend and ate at the restaurant at lunch time. I had no idea what to expect, but it went beyond expectations. The staff were attentive, without being too intrusive; the starter buffet was amazing and had so much choice; the mains were delicious and there was a huge range of dessert.

The setting is very pleasant , especially if you can get a seat near the windows overlooking the lawns and the river, and the staff and service are delightful. But, although the buffet of salads and starters is interesting, very varied and good quality, the main courses have a tendency to be overcooked ( through being left under the heat lamps for long periods) or stodgy and inauthentic ( the pasta dishes). The cheese board is banal and the desserts are just the usual run of the mill stuff - creme brulee, cheesecakes etc. A good and not over priced wine selection is a positive.

Excellent setting and service. Visited for family birthday. Thought buffet style would be great for variety of tastes but disappointed that there was no plain meat e.g. ham or prawns on the starters buffet. Everything was in sauce or a dressing which didn't suit our fussy eaters. Also the beef main was smothered in a mustard coating. Good if you like "made up" food and excellent veggie options. If you prefer plain meats and fish not ideal. Quite expensive for children who eat little, £16 per child.

Been here several times and I don't even live close! Every time I leave with a full tummy and a smile on my face. The food here is incredible and there is so much to choose from. Such good value for money and never disappoints. If you love buffets but are getting fed up of the rubbish quality, this is the place for you. Every portion is the standard youd expect from a good restaurant.

Great food, terrible service, staff when we were there useless, did I not seem to know what they were supposed to do, did nothing and were admonished in front of us, perhaps better ways to manage performance.

We have been visiting Runnymede Left Bank for over 7 years, and in recent experience the quality, options and service has deteriorated massively. Especially, if you have gluten intolerance, options are very limited. I remember from years ago, where the on demand mains were prepared with flavours, fresh and good quality. My latest experience was a disaster, where vegetarian main options were roasted peppers, flavourless pasta and greasy pizza. I would highly recommend the management to consider a different, fresh and latest menu with more vegan, vegetarian and free from options. Not changing with times is not an option and I would be really sad to see if they don’t do keep up with changing consumer behaviour and needs.

Booked for 12.30 Sunday 3 November lunch for four of us. The restaurant was very quiet to start with. We sat down at 12.30 and finally got our starters at 1.45. Main course came out at 2.15. Service was slow and we ended up not having a sweet or coffee as a large party of 20+ arrived for a baby shower. The beef was inedible and so we left it. Really poor customer service, no follow up on drinks and the staff just kept walking away. £120 and two and a half hours. Really disappointing service.

As always, the food part of lunch at the Estate Grill was superb. However the service was absolutely shocking and let down the whole experience. On arrival, there weren’t enough menus for our party and no children’s menu was provided for my son. I resorted to using the online version of the children’s menu, which later transpired to be out of date and what my son wanted to order wasn’t available. We ordered bread for the table and crudités for my son which then arrived with the main meal. Not ideal. I can’t though fault the food at all - delicious as always. On finishing our meal, we then had to wait nearly an hour for the table to be cleared. We had asked for desert menus and when these hadn’t arrived after 30 minutes, I went to request them and for our table to be cleared (we were outside so were starting to be bothered by flies and wasps on the dirty plates). When we arrived, the table next to us was being used by a wedding party for drinks. They left shortly after we arrived and the table remained uncleared the entire time we were there. We were celebrating a birthday, indicated on the booking, and no acknowledgement was made of this. It honestly feels like every time we come to Great Fosters now, there is a problem. It’s really quite embarrassing for the hotel, which used to be spectacular and which we have been visiting (including hosting our wedding reception) for almost 20 years. The new owners need to have a rethink of their service model because what we experienced today was not a premium level of service and we will seriously think twice about booking again.
