We had dinner here. The menu is a bit unusual, with not too many homely choices, but we both had shoulder of lamb, which turned out to be a stew. Very pleasant and nicely presented it was too. Staff were (I think) somewhat inexperienced but very keen to do the right thing and there were no mistakes. It must be said that the dining room is rather cramped and the walls are painted dark red, which makes the whole room rather claustrophobic. We took coffee after the meal in the sitting room adjacent. A little biscotti or even a petit four with the coffee would have been a nice touch but was not offered. We enjoyed the visit. £100 two courses for two people, plus bottle of wine and two coffees. That includes a 10% service charge added to the bill. Don'tthey know it's 2023? Just increase the prices by 10% and omit the service charge -- it just rubs people up the wrong way. (Some people will then add their voluntary tip on top anyway.)

Wonderful, cozy ambiance, good service and delicious food. Menu had a good range, meat and sauces were delicious. Even the kids' menu was different, wholesome and very popular! Some of the best food we have had in the wider area. Lovely fire and candle-lit atmosphere.

Popped in here before we visited Battle. We ordered Ploughman’s lunches which were described as “The Best in Sussex”. They weren’t kidding! It was enormous and wonderfully delicious. Like poor old Harold it defeated us - there was more than we could handle! The young staff are extremely helpful, caring and friendly. We reckon it would be worth the trek to try the Sunday lunch which also looks stupendous. That would probably defeat us too!

Thank you Railway. I have very special dietary needs and most restaurants struggle to cater for me. Not only did the railway make me a beautiful meal, they were able to not make me stand out like other restaurants do. The food was absolutely gorgeous, all fresh seasonal veg and the menu covered all pallets. The staff are beyond helpful and the landlady and chef couldn’t do enough to be attentive and meet our needs. This is the only local restaurant I will be using for the future.

We had a very poor experience. A few tips to the new owners and staff: • try greeting your customers and offering them a table • don’t wait 15 minutes to clear all the messy crockery and left-over food from the last customers off the table • don’t keep customers waiting 30 minutes for their drinks and then come back to the table and without apologising ask for their drink order again • don’t keep customers waiting over an hour for their food and then come back to the table and without apologising ask for their food order again • if you have made a whole family wait an hour and twenty minutes for their brunch, which came fifty minutes after their drinks, perhaps offer them some free drinks to actually go with their food • try pro-actively apologising for appalling service and making us late • try saying thankyou and/or goodbye afterwards Just terrible.

Spotted this unassuming café during our visit to Bexhill and were taken by the home-made selection of baking in the window. Decided to come back for lunch and were lucky to just get a table, as soon after it was full. Next time we'll make a reservation in advance. Impressed with the options for lunch and decided on the pear, walnut and stilton tart with a large Swiss salad. My wife chose the three tapas of the day which on this occasion included an empanada, beef & bean stew and a goat's cheese salad. We then each couldn't resist one of the tempting puddings - a plum tart and a pear crumble! Everything was delicious and made and presented with care. The café has obviously got a strong local customer base with many regulars, and I can understand why. The staff are friendly and welcoming giving a very homely atmosphere. We will certainly be back next time we visit Bexhill.
