As locals who drink in The Standard every week we've just encountered some 'friends of the owners' who were appalling. Verbally abused my Husband and Dad. I will never visit this place again. The barman had to apologise. Disgusting.

In town for the night and knew we wanted to return to the Standard for dinner because last time we were here (year and a half) it was a memorable delicious meal. Charming atmosphere. Fresh seafood was excellent. Service was prompt and friendly.

Unable to book in advance but we managed to get a table straight away at 7.30pm. Excellent service and food was really tasty. Korean chicken wings were delicious, Hake and chips, fishcake with greens and chips with parmesan and truffle were all excellent. Large portions, couldn't manage a dessert but saw a sticky toffee pudding on another table and it was huge. Would recommend going here.

What an amazing place. Everything you would want in a pub. Local food cooked extremely well. Attention to detail and service from all of the staff lead by Jack, was excellent. It had a relaxed ambience and generally was just a ‘top’ place. We liked it so much we visited four times on our holiday to Cornwall, for either lunch or dinner and it was consistently great.

Was looking forward a lovely Sunday lunch had read reviews and most were positive. Arrived at 3.25pm ordered a drink at the bar and asked about ordering food was told to find a table, given menus and told specials on the board and staff would come and take our order when the kitchen opened again 4pm !! ( although the website says kitchen is 12-8pm) So we waited the 35 minutes and when the waitress did come over we knew we wanted the Sunday roast but was then told no roasts we ran out ages ago . So we said why wasn’t we told and why was it still on the board , the reply was oh haven’t had time to take it off. There was no sorry that you have waited very dismissive. The staff really need to better inform customers before they waste their time waiting for food that can’t be served. So we left and went to Hoof a couple of doors up had a lovely roast with lovely staff . We definitely recommend it over The Standard Inn

Great food. We ate 2 nights here. But there needs to be words to the red haired girl behind bar on customer service. Extremely rude and saw lots of customers receiving the same awful treatment on both nights we were in. A real downer on what is otherwise a lovely place so please speak to her before too late 🙏

This was more pub-like than a couple of other restaurants we ate at in the town but its pricing was on a par - i.e. a little high and the food OK but not that exceptional. The crab tartine simply dressed crab on a piece of toast. The red mullet main however was very good. The waitress friendly and competent. We were in the back room which, as reported by others, is not as appealing as the front part of the Inn. Look, it wasn't bad by any means just a little disappointing

We met family for dinner and stayed the night. Dinner: friendly staff, good choice of ales, and table in the comfortable main bar. The food was excellent and - given its high quality - very reasonably priced. Local ingredients, well cooked and presented. The steak and ale pie was excellent! The room was smaller than expected (great photography!) and as advertised, sloping and olde worlde! All the basics were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good.

We stayed at the Standard inn for one night. The room is lovely, clean and spacious. We stayed in a room above the bar, so there is a bit of noise if you go to bed early (ear plugs were provided), but as soon as the pub closes it’s quiet. Lovely pie for dinner, fantastic freshly cooked breakfast and customer service is outstanding. Thankyou.

We stayed in Rye for a week, and ate here three times. Booking isn't possible, unless you are staying at the Inn, but on each occasion a table was soon available. We arrived at around 6pm each day, by 7pm it was usually quieter. The service is excellent. A good variety of real ales, reasonably priced, and well kept. The food is excellent and not overly priced, and a reasonable choice. We were totally satisfied on each visit. Feel a bit sorry for the staff, on our last visit a couple arrived on the table next to us, with a dog the size of a small donkey. They made no effort to restrain it, and it was allowed to invade our space with no apology. They then started complaining as within 2 minutes of sitting down, no one had taken their order. They then had the nerve to complain that their white wine hadn't been served at the right temperature. I would have shown them the door. Overall a very good experience, barring the dog owner idiots.

Orders red fish chips mushy peas twice. Really shocked when meal delivered. Small fish hardly any chips, which looked unappealing as small and thin, slightly over cooked. Food was not very hot either. Complained to server who came back with a small dish of hot chips freshly cooked. He apologised and expressed chef felt embarrassed at size of meal. We were very surprised at the size of the meal and standard of food, as we had checked out many of the reviews prior to visiting. We felt the atmosphere was good and staff polite. The bill was another matter £44:50 for two fish chips one large glass pino Gregio and lime lemonade. Shocking. Then the ultimate insult of the Gratuity being taken without asking our permission first. We did not notice this until we checked the bill on our return to our B& B. Needless to say we will not be returning. Shame as we have visited Rye many times and never experienced this in a restaurant or bar. No photos taken of meal as did not have camera with us at time. Situated right in the heart of the citadel, The Standard Inn is another one of Rye’s historic 15th century pubs that still functions as an Inn. Downstairs it’s a quaint food led pub and upstairs there are five rooms for B&B. The downstairs pub room has been stripped back to reveal the wooden and brick framework of the 15th Century pub and today it’s all beautifully carved exposed beams and features made of the impressive open fires and brickwork, and this is the best part to get a table in, rather than the dining room at the back. There is no real outdoor space to talk of except for a long thin courtyard which runs in parallel along the additional back room. They have made the most of this space by installing individual black huts, each with heaters, along both sides. We came here to eat and went for two fish dishes and they were both very good. No issues with service on our visit and it was probably one of the best evening meals we experienced during the Rye Jazz Festival weekend.. The pub bar has a decent drinks range including four real ale pumps and three local brews were on for our visit. These were Pig and Porter Skylarking Session IPA, Three Legs Brewing Pale Ale and Romney Marsh Brewery Best Bitter. We went for the first two of these and they were both in fine condition.

Another great meal at this warm, cosy and inviting pub. We sat next to the wood burner which was nice and toasty. One of us had the Belly of Pork, my mouth is watering at the thought of it! One of us had the special which was bacon and onion suet pudding……You get a generous bowl of veg each and one of us had new potatoes and one had chips. Dessert was clotted cream rice pudding……Heaven! We are lucky that this is our local pub and it couldn’t be better! Cheers!

Beautiful setting. Alas unloved and uncared for. Nightmare for anyone unsteady on their feet. Coffee luke warm, cake dry. Shabby chic carried to the nth degree.

Really fresh tasty fish, cooked to order, always piping hot, always good sized portions and the staff are lovely too.

Go through the dowdy antique shop frontage into the tiny, almost cramped room behind and prepare for a treat. We three all picked the all day breakfast; proper bacon, real butcher's sausages and all the trimmings. At around £6, with coffee refills, we couldn't have been happier!

Now called Chapter Two, not Two Trees. We enjoyed a lovely no thrills breakfast here which is exactly what we needed. The owners had signage up stating that they were away and the lady who appeared in charge in their absence was doing a great job. Made us very welcome and provided great service with a smile.
