Came for a quick drink after exploring the town. Outside seats have a great view, but the interiors are also amazing. Was really impressed with the food menu and will be definitely coming back for a proper meal.

I can not recommend The Abbey and the team there enough We recently held our wedding reception there and from start to finish everything was just perfect The food was stunning the atmosphere was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble I gave them a very plan wedding cake and asked them to decorate it and Wow !! What the did was absolutely beautiful I had asked if the area could be made more private so they went out and brought a screen To make sure I had use of the outside space they covered the pergola and decorated it with beautiful flowers Again going above and beyond to make our day perfect This place is a little gem and we will be returning to what is now our special place Everytime we are back home Rebecca, Kate, Charlie and the rest of the team Thank you so so much for what was our perfect day

Popped into here this morning, 23/4 to see if they did cooked breakfast as my original choice of eatery was closed, and I’m so glad I did! The whole restaurant is very tastefully decorated and very clean. And the table I sat at had a view of the castle. I chose the Eggs Benedict and an earl grey tea. The tea was loose leaf and came in a lovely glass teapot! The eggs Benedict was delicious! Poached eggs to perfection and just the right amount of sauce. The lady serving was polite and attentive. Cannot recommend this place enough. Will definitely visit again when I’m in the area. Thank you so much.

From the moment we walked in I was very impressed with the Covid compliance. Not only that super friendly, super dog friendly and a great selection of local beers which I made it my job to sample. We went for Sunday lunch, however I have one word Fondue! If I never eat ever again ( not likely) I have sampled the best fondue ever! The only problem I had was as they left the kitchen door open I walked into it by mistake after using the loo! Which resulted in an embarrassing, “whoops”All in all thinking of Sunday lunch? Then book here and I don’t Fondue want Fondue to Fondue influence Fondue your Fondue starter Fondue. By the way try the Fondue it’s excellent

Nipped in for lunch when visiting Battle. We were immediately advised that the kitchen was being refurbished, but they were serving cold platters, etc - which was fine for us as we were looking forward to a ploughmans. And what a selection of ploughmans! We settled on a different one each, but when they turned up, realised we could have had one between us. The food was very well presented and of a high quality. Hope to visit again when in the area again and try the hot food!

I booked a meal for 2 on Saturday 22nd August at 7.30pm. I nearly gave up on the phone as the woman who answered was monosyllabic to the point of rudeness. We arrived as booked, there was a barman serving who greeted us and said he would be with us in a minute. A few minutes later a barmaid came and started serving another customer who had come to the bar after us, ignoring us. We were then spoken to by the waitress who took us through the pub looking for our table, which did not exist. Back at the bar the fair haired barmaid who I recognised from previous visits, asked my name and my husband’s name, in case it was under him which I pointed out was impossible as I made the booking. She found my booking in the diary which had been crossed out. She asked if I had cancelled and eventually accepted I had not done so. Not a word of apology for inferring I had got it wrong or for the very obvious fact a member of staff had made a huge error. At this point I decided enough was enough and said to leave it, we were going. The barmaid had the cheek to say that wasn’t fair, it was a mistake. Still no attempt at an apology. We went over the road to the newly opened Sweet Chilli where we were welcomed in, got a table and had a superb meal with great service. So thanks for that at least. The owners of the Abbey need to take a very good look at customer service.

Poor service, menus and specials board were thrown onto our table by owner. We know this because we overheard him telling people "This is my restaurant I can do what i want " he even asked one couple to leave as they didn't want to eat, just have a drink. Which they had already bought. This is not a restaurant, it is a pub with rooms and a small eating area. Very rude man. Food choices were limited, over priced and average. Had to wait a long time for meal which wasn't worth the wait or money. Also toilets could do with a good clean.

We went for Sunday roast at the Abbey and the staff were great at first, they were efficient, friendly and we got our drinks quickly. Unfortunately we then waited nearly a hour for our roast and for it to come out wrong! So one member of our party of three sat watching us eat for the next 10 minutes. It then took very long for them to take our plates, ask for the bill and then reminding them about our bill and finally paying and leaving. The worst part was we could see three of the staff chatting behind the bar throughout this time we were waiting. I get they were young and its good to have a joke with friends but not at the expense of the customers having to wait a very long time. I would still recommend this pub and visit in the future just in the hope that the staff are a little more on the ball next time.

We never ate evening meal here as we went out but after seeing the food being served up said we would definitely return. Tried to book rooms beginning of August but couldn’t get in so stayed elsewhere but returned for Sunday lunch. So not disappointed, 3 of us had the large roast, out of this world my brother in law had the ploughman’s there was everything you could think of on his board. We did have to wait 50 mins after ordering, but no problem for us as they were so busy. The staff work sooooo hard. My sister who lives local will return soon as they are dog friendly. My partner and I, who are local and have visited this pub on numerous occasions, decided to stop and have a couple of drinks outside. We then thought we would have our evening meal there. When I went in to order I was told that there was a 30 minute wait as they were hosting an ‘event’. ‘No problem’ I said as we were in no hurry. The ‘event’ turned out to be a pre wedding party who had a buffet laid out for them downstairs. However, the party decided not to eat their buffet downstairs, but mill all around us very loudly! We both felt very uncomfortable and had to endure un-checked children stomping around behind us and extremely loud adults also in very close proximity. We could hardly hear ourselves speak and it totally ruined our meal. When I went to pay I was asked if everything was ok! I explained our concerns but was told that the pre- wedding party had been asked to go downstairs to the buffet but had not complied and the staff couldn’t make them! We weren’t the only customers that felt the same. Had we been told that the party were going to take over the whole pub we would have gone home.

We had a 1pm booking for lunch. We all ordered the Sunday roast. It finally arrived at 2.05pm. The food is good - generally large portions but they were running out of things. I ordered the chicken breast roast but only got about 1/2 breast sliced up which was a lot less meat than others in our party. I subsequently learned they had run out of chicken and beef. It also appears that diners can prebook their Sunday roasts so their dishes were coming out ahead of ours. A large mixed meat roast was £17.95. There were no green vegetables included in the roast (which some may prefer) and Yorkshire puddings were going soggy from the gravy. I would therefore recommend prebooking your dishes and asking for Yorkshires on a separate plate.

This is the second time we have visited the Abbey Hotel Restaurant since its refurbishment last year. My friend and I have travelled in USA and Europe in a variety of restaurants and diners and bars and pubs. The Abbey Hotel is at the top of our list of places to eat because of the delicious food, the friendly , very helpful staff Jeanette and Charlie made us feel bet welcome both time.

Went in for dinner last week and had a very enjoyable evening. Decor is very nice and cosy feeling, I imagine if they get the log burner going when it gets colder it will be well cozy! Lovely guys who served us...top marks for your hospitality! We are both vegetarian and to be honest, had difficulty choosing a starter and a main, as most of the choices they had seemed to contain falafels! So we ended up just having the main as we didn't fancy falafels for starters and falafel for mains!! That said, the food we had was beautifully prepared and cooked, very tasty and plentiful....Just wish there had been a little more thought into the choices offered. The rest of the menu looked very nice and I imagine, if ours was anything to go by, delicious. Dog friendly.

Lovely restaraunt and friendly staff very good roast dinner with my favourite cauliflower cheese . My only criticism is that the other veg was a bit lacking with just a scattering of carrots bertroot and sweetcorn which apart from carrots are not really what i would expect on a sunday roast having said that everything else was delicious

After wandering around Battle we opted for a late lunch / early dinner. Although there was only 4 of us (plus the dog) we were welcomed into the restaurant at a table for 6 so that we'd have enough space and that the dog could have her own safe space. The welcome was very friendly and the young man who helped us was very helpful. The food was a-maze-ing!! Plenty of it and delicious. Everyone was very satisfied with their choice (even one of the picky eaters!). A great choice of venue and I need to contact them about the details of my glass of wine as it was amazing.

We stopped here by chance for a late Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. The roast was scrummy. The ploughmans looked incredible, but we did not get a chance to sample it as we were passing through. The wine is perhaps a little overpriced, but the wine menu is clearly priced, so take it or leave it. The place was extremely busy, so during these times expect a wait - personally I don't mind a bit of a wait. The decor in the bar/restaurant is bright and modern. The staff friendly and helpful - special mention to Molly. The beer garden is pleasant to sit in. We would definitely return and have recommended this restaurant to our friends who are visiting.

When this pub was taken over by new management we thought we'd sample the food and beer. Wow what a great menu, drinks quite expensive compared to other pub/restaurants but if you want a nice meal out then you couldn't go far wrong. Well that didn't last. We popped in one Saturday in May, it was dead in there. However, we decided to stay for a few drinks but unfortunately the young girl at the bar couldn't work the till. We questioned the price and once the extra drinks had been taken off because a young chap who seemed to be in charge stepped in, we expected an apology (especially as it had taken so long to sort) but no..... you almost charged us twice as much, the bill was ridiculously expensive and it was obvious, then you dismiss us. We decided to go after the first drink. We all make mistakes and since the weather had warmed up we thought we would try the garden and give the place the benefit of the doubt. There was rubbish over the gravel. Tables were dirty and full of glasses. They must have been busy you'd say? Well there were plenty of staff on mobiles behind the bar and the young chap managing was deep in conversation with a friend about where he was going later in the evening. The pub was fairly empty on this occasion too. So we sat with a drink and admired the dried up plants and rubbish. Talking to another couple it sounds like the couple who have taken this place over have left it to their son to run whilst they take on another venture. We aren't sure if that's true. So we thought we would try the new place in Rushlake Green that they are managing as well and unfortunately we didn't have a great customer experience there either. Perhaps you have taken on too much.

Lovely location and facilities. Lunch mixed meat roast and a senior roast lunch. Very disappointing. Cold cauliflower cheese. It was heated under the grill which dried the meat out. Nothing to be able to feed my 10 month old. The whole dinner a let down. Had more veg brought out the roast potatoes were running in greese they needed a good squeeze, the cauliflower cheese was brown nothing was edible. Admittedly we ate what we could. Lots of apologies but no compensation. We had left a lovely cafe to have lunch here wish we had left when issues first found. !!

My husband i had enjoyed lunch inside this venue previously and loved it so visited here again on Father's Day on a beautiful sunny day and took advantage of Battle's longest garden, as the pub boasts. The garden is lovely but we were surprised to learn that despite booking in advance for a lunchtime meal, when we ordered our drinks prior to the meal, we were advised we could not open a tab for drinks and the meal and expected to pay as you go?. In addition choosing to sit in the garden penalised us from the good service we'd received inside. We had to choose off the menu and then go inside and order at the bar and pay again. With the specials board inside made things awkward, having to run in & out to share the information with the family, as the options were not shared by the staff; we were then asked to collect our own cutlery from inside.Another round of drinks meant another separate payment. The food however was good, when they offer a large mixed roast it certainly is and my super food salad was fab, with gluten free bread. However the paying process and a different service provided in the garden compared to inside prevented the overall rating from being excellent.

We stopped here for lunch yesterday and we're so pleased we did. We ordered the ham and 2 cheese ploughman's, and pigs in blankets (don't picture Christmas dinner these were a good size and divine!) with aioli. Don't be put off by the price of the ploughman's, it is huge and has so much variety I would definitely order again! You have a choice of cheeses and chutneys - try the cheddar with horseradish and the chilli jam. We sat in the garden in the sun, which was beautiful.

I have been here three times now and have eaten every time.I was pleasantly surprised with how lovely it looked inside, the decor was modern but warm to suit all tastes really, quite spacious, do not be deceived by the outside! The staff are extremely pleasant and helpful especially the manager, we had a corked bottle of wine and once the waitress was told seemed to doubt us as she was very young and probably unable to tell, however she took it to her manager who opened another and she discovered they all were and provided another bottle of wine for the same price. The staff are very attentive and polite at all times. The food is very nice and the main meals are generous on size. It would be nice if there were a few simple main choices available in the evening from the day menu, however otherwise a good choice. The only thing that stopped me giving it five stars, is the price of the starters and what you get for the, for example £6.95 for mozzarella sticks we only received 4 the same for the fish sticks and the calamari. A good size for a starter but £6.95 each for that amount is a bit expensive compared to their restaurants.I would definitely recommend this pub/restaurant to all ages, and will certainly be returning.

My partner & I called in, as I fancied a pint of Sheps for a change. Now this may seem picky.....but Sheps beer is a bit of an oddity in that the run of the mill stuff (Master brew principally) is so far short of Harvey's Best, it's not really in the same league. A past landlord of the Abbey, kept "Kents Best" which isn't too bad as an allrounder. The stronger Sheps beers such as "Spitfire" & "Bishops Finger" are good, but you rarely see BF on draught and Spitfire is a bit strongish if you have to drive - and they didn't have either anyway! Well to cut a long story short it boiled down to a choice between "Masterbrew" , "Whitstable Bay" or IPA. WB is really a light summery beer and it being winter, I went for the IPA which was a standard Sheps beer of a rather insipid watery nature. My partners Wine was rather more satisfactory, fortunately. So the whole visit sticks in my mind for 2 reasons. Firstly the beer - which is mostly my fault, I should know better. Secondly the cost was quite excessive, I suspect about £3 over the odds (just short of £13 v just under £10) per round, so a bit extortionate I think.I must say the long awaited TA separation of Pubs & Restaurants would make everything more transparent.

Decided to have a drink in each pub in Battle. Started at the Senlac two vodka and soda 4.40 the the Chequers 4.6 the the Abbey 9.00! Average price in the other bars we went to was 5.00. Admit furnishings are nice in the Abbey but do they warrant charging such an excess needless to say they only had one other customer. I understand wanting to be more upmarket but if this is what they are trying to do they need to train their staff. Our drink came in a very nice glass but unfortunately the young lady drowned the vodka by filling the large glass to the top with soda instead of asking the customer our I would like it served. Also interrupted her on her phone when we walked in most probably a result of boredom. She was very pleasant and friendly.
