6 of us managed to book a table at short notice for Sunday lunch. A high chair was provided on request, and food orders taken. The roast beef, enjoyed by two of us was excellent , well cooked , tasty veg and lovely gravy. The fillet steak served on a lava rock was also well received. Overall a good place for a Sunday roast.

Bunch of noisy locals beer drinking loads in the bar area. 🍸 shouting and swearing lots. Looked like a regular "after work". You come in for a light snack and a drink but end up with a bunch of loudmouth yobs disturbing everyone's peace and quiet with foul language.

Two weeks ago I booked a table online for today via 'TableAgent'. It was a treat for my elderly mother for Mother's Day. I received an email confirming it was booked. Booking as follows.. The Cricketers Hartley Wintney Date: 30/03/2025 (March 30, 2025 - Sunday) Time: 14:00 (2 p.m.) Party Size: 2 Occasion / Request: Table by window please. Section / Area: Restaurant - (Hours: 12:00 - 18:00) Yesterday she popped into the pub to check the time, only to be rudely told by a guy that there was no booking and they weren't doing any food in any case due to new ownership. A lady then came over and apologised (hence 2*). My advice is don't use booking sites!

Understaffed argumentative and rude... very unwelcoming upon arrival - I was told before the shift had even started by a short cross bespectacled woman that most of the tables were booked (which was odd as there were only 2 staff members on shift for bar and restaurant), and the larger ones were being saved 'in case more people come'. After my meal I eventually managed to catch the eye of one of them hoping to order more wine and dessert but was blatantly ignored. In the end I gave up and had to go and get one of them to take my payment. Upon remarking that they were massively understaffed and I would have ordered more food and wine if I hadn't been ignored, I was told by the same cross woman who told me the tables were booked that 'these are all walk-ins, and I hadn't been ignored, even though she could neither corroborate or deny this as she had not herself witnessed the incident? Heaven knows what they would have done if the imaginary people they were saving the tables for had turned up?! Treating real and present customers like 2nd class citizens in favour of imaginary ones doesn't seem like a good business model to me... Understaffing has cost this business money today. Avoid.

This restaurant really needs to determine its demographic. While the food was sublime the restaurant was packed and I mean packed with children. We asked to be moved three times before finding a semi-quiet table. It was like attending a creche. This is fine if you are paying for a chain restaurant but not for a restaurant that purports fine dining. It's not only the food but the ambience that counts. This could all be rectified by having a family restaurant and one for adults. Service was slow initially too. Had to wait 30 minutes for a cocktail although we were offerred some "bubbles" as the staff recognised the delay. We were told by staff that the hotel aims for kids at the weekend so sadly we will now avoid but as I said earlier the food was wonderful but sadly overshadowed by the kids.

Not long moved into the area thought we would give this a try. we chose to sit in the bar area. So far so good. Got the menu my wife and I decided on sandwiches ( it is only lunchtime) I had a pint and my wife a large Sauvignon, All good so far. Food turned up, bread was fresh sandwiches were very nice. Ordered another pint and another wine. Lovely afternoon. Went to pay at the bar got our bill, Two large Sauvignon £26. ??? Then was told by the barmaid if we had asked for the house wine which is Sauvignon it’s only £4 a glass? I never asked for the most expensive wine in the pub, i asked for a large Sauvignon. Wasn’t offered the house wine, was just given the most expensive without even knowing. Lesson learnt I guess. Will not be going back.

We went in for a cup of tea at this self-service cafe. The service was slow because a new member of staff was being trained but not properly guided or supervised. We then looked for a table. The cafe was less than a quarter full but there was not one clear table to sit at! There were no clearing staff in sight so we cleared a table for ourselves, but of course we could not wipe it down. About 10 minutes later a member of staff appeared, surveyed the tables and left without taking a single item with them. Shortly after another member of staff appeared and cleared one table (one down only forty left) and took a full tray out. Two minutes later she came back and started on the next table. Then the first member of staff came back and started remonstrating with the one clearing the table. She then went off and the table clearer took a second tray out. At this rate she was never going to clear all the tables as new ones were being created quicker that she could deal with them. A bit of common sense is required: use a trolley so that several tables can be cleared at a time.
