This restaurant really needs to determine its demographic. While the food was sublime the restaurant was packed and I mean packed with children. We asked to be moved three times before finding a semi-quiet table. It was like attending a creche. This is fine if you are paying for a chain restaurant but not for a restaurant that purports fine dining. It's not only the food but the ambience that counts. This could all be rectified by having a family restaurant and one for adults. Service was slow initially too. Had to wait 30 minutes for a cocktail although we were offerred some "bubbles" as the staff recognised the delay. We were told by staff that the hotel aims for kids at the weekend so sadly we will now avoid but as I said earlier the food was wonderful but sadly overshadowed by the kids.

My wife and I ate here for our Valentine’s Day evening. The thought that went into planning the details was impeccable. Great food, staff and music. A wonderful evening. The décor was well thought through and the table looked beautiful. The customised cocktails made at the table, the beautiful dishes. Everything felt magical and a stylish and romantic evening. And the entire menu was Gluten Free which as a Celiac I really appreciated.

We are quite local to this hotel and it's a great go-to place for a great experience. The hotel has been decorated for Xmas beautifully and no expense has been spared. We had drinks in the bar, then went to the main restaurant. The service, wine and our meal was amazing and we have no complaints. I actually asked to speak to the restaurant manager as our server, Alex provided great service, conversation and additional treats. Cannot fault anything. I will agree with other reviews that there were a lot of children in the restaurant but not sure how this would distract from an amazing experience and warrant a poor overall score. Most children were well behaved and it makes the hotel a great place to be and a great atmosphere. In fairness, one would expect lots of children this close to Christmas. Please keep up the good work.

We visited the Wild Carrot bar for my friend’s birthday and had a wonderful evening. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive and very knowledgeable so made excellent cocktail recommendations when we couldn’t decide what to have - literally nothing was too much trouble. I had ordered a surprise birthday cake which was delicious. We’ve decided it is the perfect place for all of our future birthday celebrations.

What a wonderful treat this was! We went for the full buffet. All ingredients were fresh and tasty and there was a huge variety of both cooked and continental foods. An abundance of gluten free options. Copious tea and coffee served and a glass of sparkling wine included The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The weather was wet and windy so didn’t have the chance to enjoy the grounds but will return in the Summer and schedule in a walk. Thoroughly recommend!

First, the positives! Good service, lovely staff and great food!!Unfortunately it was like sitting in the middle of a child friendly pub, which we could have gone to for a quarter of the price. Looks like the Four Seasons has lost its way, if they are trying to promote themselves as a fairly average family hotel, rather than a 5 star luxury experience perhaps that should be made clear. We are local to the hotel and, as such, we were looking for a special restaurant for a group of 8 friends to enjoy fine food and wine in a refined restaurant. This was definitely not it, such a a shame, felt bad for the staff as they are obviously aware of the problem and were very professional. Such a shame, we all agreed none of us would return!!

Very loud “loose” children running around. Unpleasant experience. It didn’t help that my main course was very unbalanced. The service was good and starter was good. They kindly gave me a discount for the issues. It is expensive and not appropriate for the only restaurant available in this otherwise top hotel. But I won’t be going back anytime soon.

Extortionately overpriced for basic pub grub, plus poor service and no allergen menu. First of all, my wife and I regularly frequent very high end establishments. This isn’t what you would expect at this price point. The location is beautiful, the staff are well dressed and courteous, however, the decor on the wild carrot is tired and the food is 50/50… read on… On arrival we were seated at a dark table with no view, when there were plenty of nicer tables (it was quite quiet). We shortly asked to move which was a waste of of our time. My wife has an egg allergy and was horrified to discover they had no allergen menu they could share with us, plus the two waiters said they had no idea about allergens so had to check with the chefs each time, which made us nervous. I’m fairness the cocktails were good. The Wild Carrot starter, which was meant to have rainbow radishes and crudités was a £0.75p - £1 bag of mixed leaf salad you’d get in a supermarket with some cherry tomatoes and sliced carrot, no radish. The fish and chips had thick undercooked doughy batter and they hadn’t removed the skin on the fish. The chips were supermarket chunky McCains type frozen chips and undercooked. For £28 I expect far, far better. This was more £18 pub grub at best. My mushroom toast was excellent and the mushroom pasta was also good but the side of fries for which I didn’t ask the cost was £8 (!!) they were limp and flavourless, essentially KFC/McDonalds level when not fresh, small portion too. My wife left about 30-40% of her food it was so bad, I ate mine as I’m more stubborn, but in hindsight, it really wasn’t worth the money as experiences of that price point should be equal, certainly not compatible to pubs and takeouts. The correct cutlery wasn’t laid out and our water wasn’t topped up once. To make matters worse, they added 15% to the bill but didn’t bring the itemised bill, just put the total on the card machine and brought that, at this point we just paid up and made for the exit. A totally embarrassing set up with incompetent staff and horrendous poor quality produce and cooking. Felt like daylight robbery and ruined our day. Read the other reviews, there’s a running theme for being overpriced and disappointing here and it’s letting what looks to be a very nice hotel down. Everything needs changing here except the cocktails and the mushroom toast starter. Also, other reviews are correct, wild kids everywhere, no wild carrots in sight. AVOID.

I booked a table for two for a Friday evening at 19.00 to celebrate a special occasion, and was very much looking forward to what looked like beautiful surroundings and a stunning menu, in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. However, the restaurant was completely overrun with children and babies, which ordinarily doesn't bother me, but this is pitched as a high-end fine dinning restaurant, where a three course meal and a bottle of wine for two will set you back approximately £300. Now we're not talking children who are sitting quietly and being well-behaved, we are talking about children running around, in and out of a set of nearby external fire doors causing gusts of wind into the restaurant, and jumping on the banquet immediately behind me with parents who appeared to make no attempt to ensure other dinners' experiences were not being affected. If the Wild Carrot wants to pitch itself as family friendly, it should ensure that adult only groups and couples dining, are seated in a different area of the restaurant, and people with children and families in another, it should also make it clear what type of standards the restaurant accepts, in terms of children running in and out and around the tables, in the same way it requires a smart-casual dress code. Whilst the food was very good, the service was not up to the standard we would expect when paying these sorts of prices in general terms, but some stand-out matters are as follows: on having our starter plates cleared we requested a ten-minute break before our mains arrived (this was, after all, a special occasion and we didn't want to be rushed), we were told that was not possible as our mains were on the counter immediately behind our table, the second basket of bread requested during our starters came out way after our mains were provided, the bottle of champagne we had ordered was placed on the other side of the restaurant and took five minutes for anybody to locate, and only after we'd requested it to top up our glasses (anybody paying this price for dinner would expect water and wine/champagne glasses to be topped up throughout a meal, almost un-noticeably). The bill came to over £330 (and I had ordered champagne, which inflates the bill slightly), and whilst I'm very happy to pay that kind of price (and am lucky enough to be able to do so semi-regularly for special occasions), this felt a bit like a shake-down: the children running everywhere was incredibly distracting and the service is not up to par, and certainly not the kind of service that justifies a 15% discretionary service charge (whilst I appreciate I could have requested that be removed, it already felt like a slightly disappointing evening and I didn't want to ruin it any further so simply paid and left). I certainly would not recommend the Wild Carrot to anyone looking for high-end fine dining. However, if you have kids, fill your boots!

We visited on a Sunday night at the end of May for our wedding anniversary. We turned up for our 7.45pm booking to find the restaurant to be completely overrun with children, and many tables filled with old plates which hadn't be cleared away from a hotel buffet which people kept also milling around for. We were seated near some open doors, which children kept running in and out of, with parents having no decency to try and control their children to let other diners enjoy their experience. In fact I think we may have been the only group in there with no children. As we have two young children at home we did not want to be around this for our special dinner, so we asked if we could move but there was literally nowhere in the restaurant that you could escape the kids. So at this point we were moved to the bar. We were sat right next to the cash register in a very awkward spot which again we weren't happy with so moved to the corner of the bar on a stained sofa. We were then surrounded by a large family group playing charades loudly but obviously this is not the fault of the restaurant and of course people are allowed to have fun but this was not the type of fine dining experience we had expected when booking this meal. Drinks very pricey too, £20 for an average fruity cocktail, I've had nicer cocktails in a can from Tesco. There was also some misunderstandings with our waiter who noted down a couple of things in our order wrong and also had little knowledge of what mocktails were. The food was mediocre at best and incredibly expensive for the portion sizes. Small portions are not out of the ordinary for this kind of dining, but you would at least expect a great taste. The best part of mine was the starter, smoked aubergine. The lamb shoulder tasted extremely salty. The fillet was decent, medium but slightly charred on the outside for my taste but still nice. The desserts were awful. The Caribbean chocolate was extremely basic and the cocoa nibs it came with were literally disgusting and I was happy to get home and brush my teeth to get the taste out of my mouth! The pink grapefruit and white chocolate dessert did not really taste of anything at all. The bill came to over £250 - we are happy to pay this sort of price for great food and a great experience. Not mediocre food, poor service and bad experience on what should have been a special night. When we wanted to reduce the £35 service charge (we changed this to £15 - still generous for the treatment we had had), and voiced our complaints to the restaurant manager, he seemed to imply that we should have let them know in advance if we wanted a quiet table (we did specify it was an anniversary on the online booking - no mention of this by the restaurant whereas most places give a special touch). I don't see why a customer would have expected to have been sat in the middle of what felt like a children's buffet/play area/Harvester type set up when coming to a 5* hotel restaurant, and be told we should have told them in advance we wanted to be sat somewhere else? Even after voicing our complaints the restaurant manager didn't take anything off the bill (would have been a nice touch but the cost of the meal was secondary to the rubbish experience), and barely apologised and just said he'd raise what we'd said with the hotel management. I am not one to ever really leave a review but I would highly discourage anyone wanting to celebrate a special occasion from coming here for their evening meal, unless you like feeling like you're dining in the middle of a pre-school.

A special significant birthday treat with my parents. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we entered the hotel, we were escorted to the restaurant and received another warm welcome by the restaurant staff who seated us at a lovely table with a view across the parkland. The service was exceptional and the food was excellent, main course priced from £18 to £40. We received a complimentary large glass of champagne each which was a very nice surprise, dessert was as beautiful as it was delicious. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion.

My experience in this restaurant is nothing short of magnificent. I had breakfast and dinner everyday for three days in a row ordering different dishes on the menu (I think I had their entire vegan and seafood dinner selection). The food was delicious, the breakfast was most especially good and fresh. You can tell they only use quality and fresh ingredients. The view is also breathtaking -if the weather permits, enjoy a dinner on their terrace during sunset you will absolutely love it! As good as the view and the food was, the true highlight of my time at the Wild Carrot was the kind lovely staff. My first night I went for dinner a very lovely and kind waitress Shueeta took really good care of me. As busy as they were that night, no matter how many questioned I asked, menus I requested, Shueeta kept her kind genuine smile and she simply radiated warmth. She was very helpful, laughed at all my jokes -not sure at this point if I am funny or the staff is extra kind- and helped me with everything I need. All her recommendations were perfect for me. She took care of me the next night too giving me a great table with another spectacular view. She also gave some complimentary chocolates with a thank you note on them. It was such a special experience. I must also mention Becky who so kindly served me on my last night and took such great care of me. If you are ever there ask for Becky or Shueeta and you will be very well taken care of. On my last day, at Breakfast, the young manager there and another waiter came up to my table with a birthday cake and message to celebrate my birthday with me. As full as my stomach was after six excellent meal, I left the Wild Carrot with an even fuller heart. Enjoy every minute you spend at this magnificent restaurant.

This restaurant is housed within the excellent Four Seasons Hampshire hotel. Unfortunately though this restaurant seriously lets the hotel down. We found the service to be very good, and the ambiance of the restaurant is lovely, but the food leaves so much to be desired. There is minimal choice on the menu (even most small restaurants and pubs have a more extensive and varied menu), so if you’re staying in the hotel for quite a few days as we were, you would very quickly become bored with eating the same things. However, the main issues are the portion sizes, the extremely poor value for money, and the way some of the food is cooked. As an example, one evening I ordered dover sole. When it arrived it was such a small piece that I could have eaten it in three mouthfuls. And on top of that it was hard and overcooked. These three mouthfuls of overcooked fish cost £34.00. I have no problem at all paying that price, but I do expect the fish to be cooked properly and for the portion to be of a normal and acceptable size. We did bring this issue to the attention of the staff and I must say they addressed the situation extremely professionally, but the enjoyment of our meal had unfortunately already been marred. We originally had no intention of eating anywhere else other than the hotel restaurant, but after two nights eating at the Wild Carrot we’d had enough. We then found a great pub (The Queens Head) just a little way down the road where the menu choices were far greater, the food was cooked perfectly, the service was extremely friendly and efficient, and the portion sizes meant it was much better value for money. We weren’t surprised to see another couple at this pub who were also staying at the Four Seasons. They were eating at the pub for the exact same reasons as we were. If you’re in the area or staying at the Four Seasons, you definitely won’t be disappointed if you eat at The Queens Head pub. I did find it somewhat bizarre that eating in a pub was so much better in every way than eating in the restaurant of the five star hotel that we were staying in. The Wild Carrot really does need to up its game.

Let’s start with the positive. When you eventually get your food - it is tasty The rest goes down Terrible service - waiters are trying but feels like it is only students or beginners. Between getting orders wrong, meals arriving at different times, plates not collected from tables etc… This is even more annoying as it comes with a fairly high price tag for what you get. Breakfast is probably the best. Staff is nice and really trying to help though but they need some training Restaurant can also be super noisy Overall not what you would expect in a Four Seasons Hotel

First impressions were great, reception explained all safety protocols and directed us to the restaurant. A warm welcome from the restaurant staff and lovely location. Nice cocktails to start, unfortunately the overall experience was lacking especially for the price. Side plates for bread but none offered. Starters were very good. Main (Sunday lunch) arrived plated due to current restrictions, wonderful yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes, parsnips were not cored and the broccoli was rock hard. Desserts were also pleasant but took a very long time, we had to chase them up, indeed, the service slipped after our mains were served- perhaps because we arrived for a late lunch? Coffees were also ordered but not served together, and the brandy coffee did not have floating cream, it was sinking. Also worth noting that service is already added to the bill, but it also gives you the options of adding a further tip. Very underwhelming for the price (our bill came to about £120/head), not just the food, but also the setting, it's a very large noisy dining room and was a shame to be sat in the centre unable to enjoy the views. 3 stars but I think that's being generous.

We went for 40th birthday celebration over the weekend, and I have to say I left disappointed, food was nice, but nothing amazing. They serve frois gras, really they need to get their ethics in check, an unnecessarily cruel and outdated food, but my main gripe was the service. The waiters were incredibly nice, but, after being seated for 10/15 mins I had to try and get eye contact to order drinks, and then again when we wanted more. I dont want to be fussed over, but a bit of attentiveness wouldn't got amiss, especially as 12.5% service is being added to an already heavy bill. I had hoped to take a friend for lunch, but I dont think i will bother, there are better options.

The Four Seasons is supposed to be a five star hotel. With that goes an expectation that the food, drinks and service will be to an exceptionally high standard. Not so I'm afraid for the £65 per head Farmers Table Sunday lunch. Frozen prawn cocktail on the starter table - the texture was wet and watery. No bread on offer. Main courses - meats were very nice. Vegetables luke warm, even those in a Le Cruset casserole with a lid on!!! No fish offering. A prawn and a vegetable curry (bizarre option for a Sunday lunch) and cold yorkshire puddings in a basket on the side! Desserts were average. 1 hot option and then little tarts etc. Boring and disappointing. Nice cheese table, but no knives with which to eat your cheese! We had to find our wine, which was placed in a bucket well away from our table and re-fill our own glasses. We were not alone in this, I noted 2 other tables having to do the same. There were not enough waiting staff on the floor to clear, take drinks orders and generally assist customers. We paid the service - didn't want to make a scene, but would not re-visit. Lastly, the included champagne. This seemed to be served in a very small glass, compared to glasses for champagne at the bar - all in all it came to £100 per person and was not worth half of that. Trading on the name I'm afraid.

When you are charging £65 a head for Sunday roast it had better be good. Both the venue and the food justified the price. Eat as much as you want over three courses, gorgeous seafood and cold meats starters , roast beef, lamb and chicken with the best vegetables I've every had from a buffet and then take your pick from a extensive range of cakes , tarts and puddings. In a bright room overlooking the country house hotel grounds, we could have spent 4/5 hours slowly stuffing ourselves. what started off looking the wrong price ended up feeling like value.

You enter through a magnificent bar with comfortable settees and an open fire surrounded by plenty of marble. Service is fine without being exemplary but the food does not live up to the surroundings. Spinach salad was bland whilst the cod main with beetroot did not really work, especially as potatoes needed to be ordered separately. Overall rather disappointing considering the very high price for the meal. This may look like power dining but don't raise you expectations over the cuisine.

Ate in Wild Carrot while staying at the hotel. Had breakfast, lunch and dinner there. All were great meals. The service is excellent and the staff were great with our infant daughter. The kids menu in particular is great and all food for under fives is free if you’re a resident at the hotel. My wife and I enjoyed all our meals - a fantastic Cesar salad with fresh prawns and a huge charcuterie ploughman’s for lunch was the highlight! Loads of people there for birthday meals and to meet family and friends and I would certainly go there often if we lived close by!

The soup offered was luke warm in the starters and as a whole the starters were very generic. The mains of roast sunday lunch were also luke warm and especially Yorkshire puddings that were cold. The only vegetarian option was prawn curry? very random and if you were a vegan forget it. One member of stuff did say that they could cook some fish as a vegetarian option but this would mean waiting while everyone elses mains became more cold. Service was polite and friendly but clearing of plates was very slow. Part of the meal included one glass of champagne, we had one 16 year in our party and asked to swop the champagne for a soft drink, we were told you could not do that? We were expecting a real experience with special food and instead we experienced cold generic food for a special birthday treat at £65.00 ahead plus drinks ! If its special occasion you will not find this special enough and very poor value for money.

Had an informal lunch earlier today. The service and overall attention to detail was first class. Without hesitation I would recommend Wild Carrot

I so want to love this place as it’s 15 minutes from home and not a pub! However we’ve been 4 times now and it’s always the same conclusion. The service is superb, friendly attentive and efficient. The food on the other hand is very expensive, which would be fine if it delivered on the promise of its description. Sadly it does not. I had burrata with candied beetroot and watercress reduction. The burrata was very cold and tasteless. The beetroot was 2 wafer thin discs of again tasteless raw beetroot and the watercress was very bland and added no flavour at all. The dish was unpalatable. My main was lovely but at £39 for Dover sole so it should have been.

We were looking for somewhere local with a little extra pizz-azz than the majority of offerings in Farnham. Wild Carrot definitely delivers fine cuisine in a top-notch restaurant vibe.

I have to say it saddens me to write this as the hotel holds a special place in our affections as my wife and I were married here 10 years ago.

This is a lovely venue for a special occasion. The surroundings are lovely and excellent service. Probably not the best food I've ever had but it is beautifully presented.

This is the only restaurant in the 4seasons open for dinner and as such caters for everyone - as other readers say if you want to avoid scores of kids, you need to eat after 9pm; but it's great that before then it is a friendly environment for those with kids.

The day after a wedding at the hotel, the wedding party met for brunch. I ordered a mimosa and eggs Benedict, while my partner had eggs Royale. Oh and I had a side of burata - oops! Food was delicious and the staff were brilliant at dealing with a larger party. The food came quickly and the setting was heaven. The brunch menu was great and I wish I had a bigger appetite because the waffles looked incredible. Next time!

The food is quite nice and the restaurant quite elegant, but be careful if you are dining here before 9pm. If you are expecting a romantic, adult environment, you could be disappointed due to the dominance of diners under the age of ten. We learned this lesson on the first night of our stay at the hotel and as a consequence, did not eat at the Wild Carrot again.

We have eaten here before and never been disappointed. We had dinner here to celebrate my birthday and it was thoroughly enjoyable with excellent service, ambience, and most importantly the meal. Yes it is expensive, but well worth it. We will return.

The refurbishment of this restaurant seems very slick but somehow misses the mark and makes it feel like a resort or chain hotel. Very friendly staff who are all clearly there to learn English and food just dreadful. I ordered a ham hock, was told I did not need side orders. It came as a huge hock of meat withy the bone through, with all the fat and skin still on. I had to hack through the skin and an inch of blubber to get to the meat which was dry and tasteless. It came with a small pot of apple sauce and nothing else. My husband had gnocchi so over cooked they were mush.

I booked a table for 10 for my wife's birthday and the Wild Carrot staff made it easy from the start. From the initial booking with Phillip through to our superb french waitress (Amadee - i think - sorry) the whole evening was flawless. Great service / great food and great atmosphere. The Wild Carrot has a perfected the balance between quality without being stuffy. The whole evening was followed up by a return visit the next day for afternoon tea where the staff excelled again.

Try the Wild Carrot for an amazing breakfast spread. You will not be disappointed. Country bacon and a variety of sausages to die for. Plenty of healthy selections too. A serious spread of Farm to Fork with a five star service. Outdoor seating with a vista view of the English Countryside and brilliant service to round off a perfect review.

I did not stay but lunched only. The restaurant,Wild Carrot, is comfortable, welcoming with very good and attentive staff - and plenty of them. A good level of service overall. It's rather a sprawling hotel with a spa and everything is spread over quite a large area in an expanse of countryside. Rather strange that Four Seasons is there at all. The food was of a very good standard. Finding the restaurant was a bit of a challenge, situated as it is on one side of an adjacent building to the main entrance and down some stairs.

My husband booked this for our anniversary. We only live 15 minutes away so were interested in what it was like. We loved it. The staff, ambiance and food were all top notch. Even though the space is big it has been really well designed so you could be there on your own and it wouldn’t matter. The whole evening was wonderful and we are going again this week! Can’t wait.

Visited Wild Carrot for the first time as a birthday treat. Found the staff very welcoming and was surprised that it was a Sunday buffet as there was no mention of this on the website. Food was very tasty and good quality. Carvery roasts were delicious and well proportioned. Desserts are a favourite of mine and I was not disappointed. So much choice and I did manage quite a few.

Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at The Poacher. Tasty and reasonably priced. Lovely environment and the experience was topped off by meeting the lovely Pierre - so friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks for looking after us so well! Looking forward to returning when we are next in the area. Merci 😀

Busy when we went but not helped by the few empty tables not having been cleared of glasses, etc. and cleaned. My wife and I had to clear our own table and 'enjoy' our drinks next to other people's crumbs. Not helped by the three people on duty wasting their time chatting behind the bar rather than doing their jobs. Seriously unimpressed. Should have taken photos, I'll remember that next time....

Great food; hot, plentiful and delicious. Superb service from Louise and Nicole. Update: 10th November 2024. Another return visit and, again, great food and service. A huge thanks to Amy and Lilia for the 1st rate service today.
