We reserved a table online for 8PM on Sunday 7th January, table for four. We made an online booking and received email confirmation and a text message confirming our table. We arrived at 19:55 to be kept waiting as staff were eating, when somebody eventually had the grace to come over to serve us we were told the kitchen closed an hour ago. Couldn't leave a review on the food as we left hungry.

We just moved to Fleet and also got married and decided to take the first meal as a family at The Oat Sheaf. The first nice impression was when I stepped in and I've seen all the staff in nice clean uniforms which showed professionalism. Then we had to wait few minutes to be sitted as they been quite busy but no issue with that. The food was great, no doubts. Drinks also, we had some cocktails too. Our waitress was Beccy and i don't know what she's doing, but she has that something that makes you feel welcomed. All together made a great experience for us and probably that will make the place to be a part of our history. I think you win us as regulars now and when we'll have friends around definitely we'll pick The Oat Sheaf as our place to go out. Thank you guys! Thank you Beccy!

I’ve never had such a bad and frankly rude experience in a pub. First of all I booked online and had the option ‘outside deck’ and upon arrival we were told that outside was first come first served and no table service so we asked to sit inside. The host Larrisa instantly became annoyed and informed us they had two large events and we put in the corner already feeling like an inconvenience from the get go. We ordered a bottle of Pinot and 4 mains meal 2 of which being the pork belly and scallops & the salmon chefs special. We waited quite a while and a table next to us who ordered after we did got their food first. Upon arrival the pork belly and scallops was so so poor. The pork was extremely dry and chewy. The crackling was burnt and the bon bon was missing. The salmon arrived missing its potatoes and we were told ‘they come separately’. The pure and so called salsa was put on together in one big bland mush on the plate and the salmon was dry and over cooked. Neither people who had these meals had more than 3 bites. We waited over 15 minutes to get someone’s attention and finally managed to notified our waitress that these meals weren’t satisfactory. She removed the plates and said she would let a manager know . We waited another 15 minutes for the manger to ask if we were even okay. One receipt of the bill only the pork belly had been taken off and the bottle of wine we ordered over priced compared to the menu. I approached the manager Larissa privately to discuss the vast array of issues with our meals and requested the salmon be taken off too as she hadn’t eaten more than a few bites and she was beyond rude saying that’s how it comes and basically saying ‘deal with it and pay’. She said she had a large event and I advised to not neglect other customers. Overall it was an extremely rude encounter and awful service. I will never be dining here again and it’s a shame as this is a local as we’re new the area and work in the same industry. Don’t eat here if you know what’s good for you.

If the staff spent half as much time tending to customers as they do messing around with cutlery (with their backs to their increasingly-frustrated customers), the service here might be better than woeful / non-existent. Raised the issues with a ‘manager’ (in inverted commas, as they didn’t seem to be managing anything or anyone) … wasn’t hard to see that most tables around us had issues with service / food … there was no shortage of staff, they just didn’t seem interested in providing any level of customer service. Waited an age to be seated, one of the drinks we (eventually) ordered didn’t arrive, food not what we ordered, and it took nearly 3 hours to get our meal (almost an hour per course, and that was with us constantly flagging the waitress to try to get some service) - thoroughly ruined what was supposed to be a special occasion.

Just been to The Oat Sheaf for Mothers Day lunch and despite the food being great, the overall experience was very disappointing. The service was awful, with staff only appearing to attend tables when called over. We waited for ages to be seated, it took forever to order food and when our desserts were incorrect, the response from the waitress was “oh, well I put them through correctly”. There was no offer to put it right. We were there for over 3 hours and only asked if we wanted to order drinks once! The second time we had to beckon a waitress who looked put out at being asked!! Our issues were raised to a manager but she seemed completely disinterested! It’s a shame, we’ll now never return and definitely never recommend.

From the moment I placed my reservation to the moment I left, I was made to feel relaxed. After noting my hearing-loss on my booking, I was welcomed with a smile and guided to my table in the corner away from the main bar. Despite this I still struggled to hear, as I dined at peak time. However, my waitress Talli, immediately put me at ease by showing me the tablet whilst using subtle hand gestures to confirm my wine and steak order. Talli also ensured that I was looking at her when communicating with me, didn't hesitate to repeat if required and was friendly, professional and welcoming. Unfortunately, my steak was undercooked for me personally. However, when I mentioned this to Talli, she apologised and offered me a complimentary dessert. Overall, I had a positive experience at the Oat Sheaf and was very impressed with the way the staff communicated with me. It was refreshing to be spoken to normally, instead of the norm which is to be shouted at. The lovely manager who I also spoke to on the phone prior to my visit, came over and greeted me, spoke clearly to ensure and was equally as welcoming. Despite being rushed off their feet, both Talli and her manager were fantastic and I look forward to returning again in the near future.

On arrival we were told that there were several dishes not available, no great issue! Ordering drinks, one of the draught beers not available due to pump issues, this happened on a previous visit. We waited about 20 minutes to place food orders which also took a very long time even though the pub was not particularly busy. This was also the case for a table next to us. Food was ok but not great so also disappointing as when we visited during the summer the service was great. It appeared that they either didn’t have enough staff or that they didn’t know what they were doing. Unfortunately it is unlikely that we will return in the future.

Over the years I have visited the establishment a number of times whilst on business in the area. The food has always been good and the service friendly However on my last visit I arrived with two of my co--workers in the pouring rain parked as always in the car park and went in there were very few other customers We ordered food and drinks (it not a cheep place to eat but good quality) we then sat at a table and realised how cold it was and although we commented to the staff nothing was offered two help The food arrived and was nice we ate up and left straight away it had now stopped rain so a steady walk back to the car and went on our way Subsequent I received a parking fine from the rip off organisation that " manage the car park" stateing that I had not complied with the rule which where "set out in signage which none of the three of us saw nor was there any mention of it inside the venue or from the staff whom I spoke to about the rain on the way from the car parkSo on top of a pricey meal I had to pay a further £50 Needless to say I won't be returning and would recommend you don't either Net result the venue looses I lost and the only gain was euro car parks unless the venue gets a share

Pleasant decor and staff, all downhill from here. My aunt wanted a small portion of fish and chips, waitress said fish is precut but could reduce hips. Food was enjoyed but disappointingly still charged full price. My wife's chicken and leek pie was described as edible but unexciting with very low chicken content. At £14.95 for a pie and a very unappetizing looking dollop of mash, overpriced. My roast pork was accompanied by a huge but inedible Yorkshire pudding which took up half the plate. Four small pieces of potato, two small slices of pork, one of which was inedible and vegetables served in a separate badlt chipped bowl. It gets worse...I found hairs in my dinner. The waitress took the cost off the bill but I was not offered a replacement.A very disappointing experience all round, not worth crossing the road for let alone a 180 mile round trip!

Wanting a meal before an event nearby, a friend booked a table for the 4 of us, early evening. First impressions were good : free parking for patrons; fresh-looking facade; very nice decor and comfortable surroundings. Service at the bar was quick, and the table allocated was perfectly situated in an alcove. All good so far. Food was duly ordered. Let’s wait and see... Well we didn’t have to wait long! Starters arrived on piping hot plates, beautifully presented and were simply delicious. Good portion sizes too. The homemade soup was exactly that - and the baked Camembert were wonderful. The ubiquitous steaks were tender and cooked as requested and the salmon just so. Our waitress was very attentive, and I particularly liked the way she double-checked the drink order to ensure that she had it correct, rather than just guess. The restaurant and bar were packed -it being Saturday night- so full praise must go to the staff at The Oatsheaf because I couldn’t fault them. A lovely meal in very pleasant surroundings. We will certainly be returning soon. Thank you.

I've just been for a roast dinner with my friends and I have to say the starters were amazing, the roast was a disappointment. My roast potatoes were cold as were my friends. I sent just my spuds back as the rest was hot but my friends sent their whole plates back to be given microwaved, or grilled as the Yorkshire pudding came back inedible and burnt and lamb over cooked. They gave us 10% off the bill. And the waitress was amazing. But feeling disappointed. The couple opposite us didn't pay for their main as it was cold too.I guess if you like eating cold food go there if not beware.

They actually forgot to seat us, we had to ask again if the table was ready at which point the lead waitress/hostess rushed to set it. It was only set with cutlery for two. The order service was slow. Also then told us she’d have to check if everything was still available, which is the last thing you want to hear after waiting 45 minutes for a pre-booked table. Waitresses were pleasant, just very slow, inattentive and forgetful. The food was decent - I quite enjoyed it. Decent sized portions - probably a6/10 for a roast dinner. Enjoyed the dessert too. Anyway the barman was very keen to point out that fact to every new customer he didn't know. This saved us as we must have been as blind as bats and missed the massive sign. There were four of us, we all had starters which were very good (especially the squid). However i had the pork belly main which i’ve had before, it was now a bit of over cooked fatty streaky pork, on a very poorly cooked portion of lionise potato, it came with no vegetables, all in all very very poor for £14-95 compared to before!! Glad I never paid an extra £4 for the scallops with it. The other three mains were good. I also got a bottle or bubbly for my birthday. However do not waist your money on the pork belly!!!!!

We went here last night for my birthday and had a great time, we were sat in the corner by the window and three was a good atmosphere without being too noisy. The food was excellent - I had the lobster and king prawn pot, my friends had the scallops of the day and the koftas and all 3 dishes were well presented and delicious. For main course I had the pork belly with scallops, my friends had the lemon sole, the venison and the seabass, everyone really loved their food - the pork belly and the venison could maybe have done with a tiny bit less cooking time but overall the quality was very high - the scallops were simply superb and the lemon sole my friend had was so big it covered half the plate. For dessert I had the chocolate brownie which was divine, my friends had the melting chocolate orange bomb (he practically inhaled it) and the sticky toffee pudding (seemed to go down very well accompanied by an espresso martini). The wine we had was also exceptional, a Yealands Estate pinot noir from Marlborough, New Zealand, full of flavour without overpowering the food.

We booked late lunch (3 p.m.) to avoid the busy Saturday lunchtime period. Pub looked tired, uncleared tables and was cold. We moved tables to be nearer to the fire, but then we were completely forgotten. Food took ages to arrive, even though no-one else seemed to be eating, and sadly it didn't get any better. There didn't seem to be many staff, and the one guy who did ask if everything was ok with the food disappeared - perhaps the end of his shift? After than no one came over to the table, resulting in one of us having to get up, finding someone to come and clear our plates and then telling them we were going to order a pudding. Food wise - the main course was ok, typical average pub food. I'd avoid the melting bomb pudding thing with popping candy - it was really awful left a synthetic taste and the melted stuff was like eating plastic. Another pub that used to be really good but seems to be on downward trend. Also it's a pain to pay for parking even though you get it refunded.

Enjoyed a rare afternoon off with a friend sitting in the sun enjoying some bubbles. Particularly enjoyed being able to sit outside, in a smoke free environment that didn't require walking through the smoking section which is positioned lower down on the grassed area which sets it sufficiently apart for it not to waft all over the non-smokers. Of course there was the inevitable "inconsiderate" who saw fit to smoke right where he was with his family in the non-smoking section but there you go. The sharing platter was average, portioned for 3 people. Before we knew it, it was dinner time. Despite it being a quiet Monday night, the kitchen, which was going to close early, kindly stayed open long enough to await the delayed arrival of another person. The burgers were delicious and surprisingly came medium as requested although we were warned that they had to be well done. Overall great value and good setting with friendly staff.

Bought my family for lunch here and would definitely be returning. Some of the best food around it was fresh and so tasty. The service was brilliant very nice and helpful staff. I can't fault anything It's also reasonably priced. Would highly recommend for anyone.

Absolutely first class service, the food was top notch and Mitchell was the star of the evening. His customer service was the best I've seen in a long long time. And compliments to the chef the fish platter was exceptional

Disappointing lunch with soup tasting of salt only and Haddock & Horseradish fishcakes without a hint of the latter.

Called in for lunch as in are for family reasons and we have enjoyed meals here often. Ordered soup for myself and steak brioche for hubby and a bottle of wine with 2 glasses. Soup arrived ; no sign of steak : had to catch attention of server and ask for it! We ate lunch separately at the same table ! Would not have had steak delivered when it was if we had t asked for it!!!!! But credit due when we told the lady who delivered steak she was mortified and came back to the table having already refunded the whole amount !! We protested but she insisted 10 stars for customer service re dealing with complaints !

I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the menu. The food was served impeccably and was excellent in every respect. I was in a group of 4 and we all equally enjoyed our chosen dishes, the prices were also reasonable. The staff were helpful and friendly, highly recommended.

My husband and I booked this as it had been recommended for an anniversary meal. We were seated directly next to the open bar area which was so noisy we couldn't hear each other speak. On asking if we could be moved, the waitress moved us to the far end of the pub to the dining area which was empty, but a better option than our previous table. I was recommended by the waiter the starter of scallops which when it came was luke warm and just had a very average cheese sauce poured over. My main was spaghetti with prawns, crab and chorizo in a tomato sauce. There was no crab to been seen apart from a very small clump that was obviously from a tin and the sauce was watery and had a peculiar sweet taste to it. I asked the waiter where the crab was and was told it was used to thicken/taste the sauce but this clearly wasn't so. I thought I couldn't go wrong with a cheese board to finish, but was told there were no figs left which was the reason I chose the cheese only for 5 mins later for another waiter to bring me a whole bowl of them. The figs were the only part of the whole meal I enjoyed. This was an overrated menu and to finish things off they didn't even have the very ordinary glass of red wine that I had asked for off the wine menu. All in all I would never go back and bitterly regret the very heavy bill for this substandard meal.
