Our first Sunday roast since the pub reopened and it was a lovely experience. The beef roast was excellent, top roasters and great selection of other veg perfectly cooked. Would recommend the Melbec to accompany the beef. Great cheeseboard with warm French bread was a different twist on the traditional crackers. Overall a great Sunday afternoon. Thanks to Lydia and the team for their warm welcome and excellent service.

First visit since reopening. Have been a regular here for more than 40 years. A much brighter decor now refurbished. A busy Saturday night and immediately welcomed. Shown to table and drinks order taken immediately. Prompt friendly service, not too hurried. Adequate and varied menu. Good choice of starters. When order arrived, the food was beautifully presented, well cooked and the right quantity. Main course followed by a good choice of sweets, again of good quality. Did not sample the wines, next time.! The TImothy Taylor draught bitter was very good and at an ideal temperature. We had a dog with us and treats were available. A very pleasant experience.

We had supper at the pub last night, it’s the second time we have eaten at the pub in the last two weeks. The food was lovely, service great but on both occasions the evening was tarnished by the loud noise from groups of men at the bar. Last night we asked the waitress to ask the guys to be quiet however to no avail. They were constantly loud, there were also a couple of other tables commenting on the noise. Unfortunately it just ruins the evening. What made it worse was when we walked outside one of the group was peeing up the bush to the right of the front door. He said Sorry I bet you didn’t want to see that, no we didn’t it was disgraceful..

What a brilliant day was had at this pub, even after all the flooding, they are still keeping the locals happy with food and music. They did a great BBQ on Sunday and Mondays the food was excellant with a good selection for everyone. They bar was buzzing and music in the garden. The staff are happy and eager to serve. It is definitely worth a visit

At last we have a local pub to visit. Been waiting so long for this pub to get its mojo back and now it has. Anyone that was put off before, no more cold welcomes and unfriendliness and general disinterest, the pub is back as a welcoming destination. Time for the people of Hook to support the new owners, if the way things have started can continue that would be great, we have never seen the pub so busy on our recent visits.

The Billet is back, fantastic refurb, great new beers, cocktails and food. A limited but varied menu to start with but a more comprehensive selection to come when further improvements are made to the kitchen. We have eaten a couple of times since reopening and the food was amazing. It’s always busy which bodes well for a successful venture.

This has now re-opened and has been missed by the locals! Happy to see a revamp along with a summer menu which proved to be full of choice. The cost is on the higher side - £15 for a Ploughmans - however it was very enjoyable. We will be revisiting and looking forward to what the chef does as an autumn menu too!

We came across this pub by accident whilst on grandparent duty and were fortunate enough to get a table. We had beer battered fish and chips and the liver with mash and vegetables. The food was hot, delicious and probably not the right thing to eat on a warm summer evening but it’s so hard to find liver on a menu these days! It was cooked perfectly which is not an easy thing to do and there was a good selection of fresh veg too. The batter on the fish was crispy and not at all greasy and the chips were just right. The staff were really friendly, and the Doombar was the best pint ever, closely followed by Timothy Taylor Landlord once we realised that was on offer. The landlord was sporting a Hartley Wintney CC shirt and we had a great chat about the cricket week just coming to a close. We are definitely going back when next in the area. Thank you

Thank you for the “return to normal”. Dinner at the Billet was part of real life, before Covid 19, and it was “a joy”. We went into the pub, for the 1st time since early 2020, and we both felt at home and welcomed. The circumstances have changed for all of us but the Billet is a bellwether, and today I got normal back. Thank you to Richard, Sally and all of the staff for a lovely return to how life was. We really want to like this pub as it is local to us. Trouble is the owners make it so difficult. This pub should be a goldmine with its location and setting. A motivated owner could really make something of the pub. Unfortunately the present owners seem to lack passion, energy and vision. If you are one of the chosen few inside the clique you will be spoken to. The rest of the customers seem to be barely tolerated as irritants to be served and seen on their way.Bizarrely after three months of lockdown they have reopened then immediately stated they won’t be open Mondays and Tuesdays. I really don’t know why they bother this says everything about their attitude to potential custom. They ought to sell up to someone who will make something of the pub.Oh yes it’s very expensive too, London prices for the beer.Could and should be so much better.

We have been going to the Crooked Billet for many years now, and can honestly say that this is one of the best traditional pubs in this area. Richard and Sally, the owners, are very welcoming, the staff are superb and Richard keeps his beer in tip top condition. The food is very reasonable, very traditional and locally sourced when possible. Sunday lunch is very good and very popular. The Billet is also a dog friendly pub, and the garden outside, is beautiful with the River Whitewater runs alongside. It's nice to feed the trout whilst having a refreshing drink on a summers' day.Thoroughly recommend the Billet for a good day/night out at a pub without distractions , good food, drink and service.

This pub has been our regular stop since my mother was placed in a care home in Hook. We both had both had a long day as we had to go onto Basingstoke after to visit relatives. On our return to Camberley we decided to grab a box of chips at a chip shop and decided to finish them in the car prior to going into the Crooked Billet for a well earned drink. This will be our last visit to this pub unfortunately as the landlord came over to us both as we were about to go in and told us in a very stern and somewhat rude tone to leave the car park immediately. My wife mentioned that we were just about to enter the pub but the quick sharp reply of no you are not,we are closing came back immediately. I’m sorry but we are both shocked and saddened that we will no longer be using this pub again. I can only assume that business is good and my custom is not needed anymore.

Called in for lunch yesterday. Got a table in the garden and ordered. When my lasagne came, I thought it looked a bit peculiar, a large lump on a dish surrounded with tomato sauce. Upon dipping into it, I found that it had been left heated up for so long, it was almost uneadible The lasagne sheets were so hard and the bottom ones burnt to a cinder. I do not usually like to complain, but after all we had paid £11.for it. I called one of the waitresses over and said I was not happy with it. She went in to tell the cheff. Upon her return I was asked if I wanted another lasagne, I definitely wasn't going to risk another. I said I did not and she said she would consult the owners and see what they had to say. Well, I waited until my husband had finished his scampi and his pint and no one came to say anything. I would have been happy to have had a free drink offered or a cup of coffee but when I got no response from the management, I do not think I will be giving them my custom again.

This pub is just off the A30 in Hook with parking at the front and rear. There is a nice bar garden situated next to a picturesque river at the rear, though you would need to keep an eye on young children. The inside of the pub has seen better days and the staff are more functional than friendly. My wife had the steak and ale pie (huge portion) which she enjoyed but the carrots, green beans and cauliflower were very dry and uninspiring. I had a burger with cheese and bacon but the bun was dry (almost powdery) and the burger was overcooked. The chips were good though. My son had a large pork chop which he enjoyed and my daughter had a beef lasagne which was 'okay'. We also had a couple of afters: the sponge pudding was a small amount of sponge swamped in syrup and the sticky toffee pudding was a dry and served with watery custard. The bill for 4 of us was over £90 including 5 drinks, which felt overpriced for a dining experience which had more downs than ups. We wouldn't eat there again but may use it for a pint by the river on a sunny day.

Accepting that I review this place quite regularly, the twist in this one is that my wife has a broken right arm at time of writing this review. Her favourite meal at “the Billet”, is the vegetable lasagne. My cunning plan was that, as a relatively soft meal, veg lasagne could be cut and eaten with a fork and no other cutlery required. Answer: yes it is and yes she could. Result, formerly unhappy lady, now out in public at our favourite pub and eating unaided with self esteem intact

Having to find somewhere to while away a few hours between a wedding & the evening reception, we found this pub. A pint—well kept Timothy Taylor's Landlord—to start with while watching birdlife & some small trout in the river by the car park started our time there. On this day the kitchen opened at 6 pm so we went in to find nearly all tables already reserved—good sign. We ordered nothing fancy, just spaghetti Bolognaise & scampi & chips, as we had only a short time to kill now. Service was very quick & the food was very good. Other tables were also being served quickly & there was a real 'buzz' about the place. Had we had more time, we would have explored the extensive specials board with its good selection.

We visit this pub twice a year for lunch for a family celebration. Excellent selection of traditional pub food, well presented and good portions. The service is excellent, pub maintained to a high standard, and we will regularly be visiting for the next few years. Very easy parking, and a cosy atmosphere with wood burning fire, in the winter.

This is a quaint little pub and currently our favourite pub. We have had dinner there a few times now and every time we are not disappointed. One doesn't have to wait long for the great, hearty pub food to arrive.

We chose the Crooked Billet for a family gathering as it was a halfway point for us all and would like to thank Richard and staff for a lovely Sunday lunch. We were a party of 14 so a lot to cater for! Food all came out at the same time even though we were running late. I had asked for the bills to be done separately this was all handled very professionally and we were all able to go up and pay at the end with no problems. Would definitely go back again! Thank you very much.

Decided on eating out tonight as our daughter was staying over so we thought we would try The Crooked Billet again for dinner as it’s been a while since we’d eaten there.

I wish there were more pubs like this: well kept beer, good food and an established, experienced landlord. Brilliant.

Run by a rugger bugger, the food is wholesome and honest and the real ale is beautifully kept. A pretty stream ripples by the outside tables. The service and ambiance are faultless and all that is presented is of great quality and value. You won't be disappointed!

Lovely little pub, came for Sunday lunch which was a good portion size, very tasty and very reasonably priced. We came here for the Beer Festival a while ago and we had a really good evening. Will definitely be coming back for Sunday lunch again.

Been there a couple of times recently and enjoyed food sitting by the water, very good service and no complaints about the actual food other than not a great choice, in some ways that's probably good as it has always tasted "home-made" rather than catering packs bought in.

As ever just about covers it for me. Good food that is well cooked and cleanly presented. Probably the best "pub grub" in the local area. The menu has broad enough range to offer a real choice for most folks. The specials board changes on a regular basis and again offers something for everyone. You might get cheaper but I don't believe you can get better straightforward blokes food alongside a range of food for children. Ladies normally find something as well , so all bases covered. No one can predict the weather but if we get an Indian Summer then the garden by the River Whitewater is a great place to enjoy a quiet drink and possibly spot a trout or 2 in the river. Play area for the kids and plenty of off street parking. Oh yes and an amazing range of real ales that Richard, the landlord, takes a pride in serving at the right temperature and even offers a small "taster glassful" if required. My doctor has banned me from drinking bitter so I am a "bitter drinker" for the wrong reasons.Try the bitter enjoy with some food. The staff are always both friendly and extremely helpful Before you ask, the pub is dog friendly.Go, try, enjoy

First visit to the annual Beer Festival at The Crooked Billet in Hook, there were around 12-14 special guest ales that were available to buy. Some were exceptionally good with various blends of yeast, flavours and colours. We had a great table outside by the stream that runs beside the pub garden, weather was glorious beers very good. Then when the wife's joined us later we then had dinner in the pub, food was very good, staff very polite as usual.A great afternoon and evening dinner.

Popped into this pub on the way back to London from Andover after dismissing 3 others on the A30.Whilst situated on the main A30, it was sufficiently set back to provide a nice and quiet location. The range of main meals and desserts was extensive, and it was difficult to make our choice as it was all very appealing. After deliberation we both chose the Steak & Ale pie; the steak was particularly tender and was served with very generous portions of potatoes and vegetables. The prices were also very reasonable; two main meals, plus drinks and one dessert came to £35.I had a very nice pint of St Austell's Trelawny.
