It had been highly recommended to us by many people. We booked in for my Mum's birthday and the staff could not have been more helpful and welcoming. Really nice atmosphere whether you're there for dinner or just drinks. The roast dinner was impressive, almost too much food with beautifully cooked meat and varied vegetables. Beer and wine selection is also very good, the local beer Phoenix Ale I can recommend for anyone wanting a traditional English Ale. I definitely want to go back again soon, we randomly ended up there the day before our dinner on a pub crawl of Hartney Whitney and had a lot of fun. The staff are always accommodating and friendly, I'll be recommending it to everyone I know.

A lovely style of pub. Clearly very popular. Great staff. No actual vegan meals but, when asked, they did rustle me up a very tasty vegan burger. But no other choice. Unusual, nowadays. My friend said their meat n bacon burger was excellent, as were the fresh, hot, chunky chips. Not sure why food was served on paper, cos it just got mixed up into the sauces ! Draughty where we were by the fire, so we kept coats on our legs.

Due to a very large party who arrived slightly after us but were served before we had to wait a very long time for our meal. They did apologise but if I'd been informed earlier I would have gone elsewhere as we had a limited time before we had to go. (I had judged and hour and a half as being be adequate. It wasn't). As a result we were late.

Came in here about 2 years ago to get a Sunday roast while me and my partner are eating another customers dog went for a poo in the middle of the floor and the staff thought it was cute and didn’t make the slightest fuss. I came in over the weekend with my one year old twins and the staff did nothing but badger me for the duration of my meal telling me to tell my kids to stop crying when in fact they weren’t making that much noise at all, so dogs pooping in the floor are welcome, but babies in buggies are not, odd place with odder staff will not be returning

Most disappointing Sunday lunch ever! The young serving staff were fantastic, however.. the meat was ok, roast potatoes 🥔 tiny, one parsnip each and the root vegetable mix was garden peas, small pickled onions! That was it. Apparently vegetables all got used in the first sitting! Never again! Awful 😞 spent over £100 for 2 with no starter or dessert!

Not much more to add after this headline. These days pub menus offer a lot and generally offer little. Unless, that is, they have a chef who knows what they’re doing in terms of choice of ingredients and creative flavours. In other words, takes a pride in what they offer, so hats off to the kitchen staff at the Phoenix. But not to ignore the charming and attentive service and the warm welcome. Go on, give it a try.

So many problems Menu errors Food left to go cold Double charging Poor quality ingredients. A birthday celebration which became an embarrassment. Initial drinks were fine in the Bar. We were then asked to be seated and had an extraordinary wait until any of our pre-order came to the table. Warm plates with meat, Yorkshire and gravy arrived then got cold until eventually veg and potatoes made an appearance. Cauliflower cheese had no cheese taste Potatoes were in minimal quantities Parsnips had become courgettes in tomato sauce (Sunday Roast?) Pork was pleasant; beef was poor quality fatty and tasteless Slow service meant desserts were rushed as pre-booked taxi was close. Then final insult was to be charged twice for the Chateaubriand! Such a stark contrast from previous visits. Disappointing

Went for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. Padron peppers to share to start. Were tasty and melted in the mouth. I had the burger and chips. Burger was substantial and impressive in size when served. The burger patty itself was dry though and was not as beefy as I expected. Chips were chunky (the best sort), but I would have liked a larger portion. Offered condiments with my meal. Frees parking and card payments accepted. Mind your head as the beams are low in this old building.

Nice pub with good food. First time visiting and we had a Sunday lunch. Not a massive menus ie roast chicken, pork or beef but all done really well. Veg selection was good and included cauliflower cheese. Potatoes were cooked well with crispy edges and soft insides. Served rustic style with garlic rosemary and some parsnip. Really good 👍 Service was great with attentive staff. Only negatives were no high chairs and the tables were a bit sticky.. otherwise all good. Highly recommend. Good value for money.

Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, good service in general but pretty disappointed with the roast beef, it was chewy, tough and hard to swallow. Hardly managed to eat just a small piece, we only satisfied with the potato and veg that was nice. I think beef was cut through the wrong side, it was so uncomfortable to slice with the dinner knife. It was a complete waste of everything!

Went for Sunday roast and ordered the beef - I can safely say I had the WORST beef in my life. It was so difficult to cut into and so chewy and extremely difficult to swallow- it was clearly not rested properly and the meat was not cut in the correct way. We barely touched the meat and asked if it was possible to have it cooked more to which the waiter said "no sorry as its already on your plate" To pay almost £100 for our family roast was disappointing. No discount on the bill was offered which seemed ridiculous as our plates were taken from the table all with full slices of untouched beef. If you're looking for a good Sunday roast... I suggest you book some place else.

We have had a meal here before on a number of occasions but this last visit was very disappointing. The service was good and ambience was pleasing, as always, but sadly the food was not to the quality we would expect. I wanted a burger, but the only one available was a double burger. It was really disappointing - the worst burger I ate in my life. The burgers (2) were tightly compressed thin round discs, overcooked and nearly inedible. The half a leaf of lettuce and a sliver of cucumber and cheese that had melted and run were the trimmings and equally disappointing. Chunky chips were OK, but the whole dish was not up to standard and it cost £17.50!! Had I been alone, I would have complained, but I was with friends and I was not the host, so I did not say anything. If it were down to me I would not go there again and I would not order a burger.
