Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at The Poacher. Tasty and reasonably priced. Lovely environment and the experience was topped off by meeting the lovely Pierre - so friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks for looking after us so well! Looking forward to returning when we are next in the area. Merci 😀

On driving through Alton we came across the Poachers Inn. So decided to stop for lunch, such a beautiful pub restaurant and hotel, also How good and clean thé pub looks. Best of all how beautiful the food was too. We thoughly enjoyed the lunch. The staff were very polite and nothing was too much trouble. We will be going back in the evening to have dinner. I spoke to the manager who I found very polite and helpful regarding the menu which we said was excellent and well prepared. We will definitely pass on the Poacher Inn to friends being a most enjoyable place to visit and loved the food

We went as a treat for our grandson who was staying with us. We ordered roast beef for two and a children's burger. When our meals arrived we asked could we have some more gravy. Imagine our surprise whe we were billed extra for two small jugs of gravy. We were also told that we couldn't order more roast potatoes as they were expecting other bookings and didn't have enough for us to order any more! What sort of a pub hasn't got enough supplies. Needless to say we will not be back

We stopped in this pub on our way back from a road trip. We hadn’t booked a table but we’re lucky enough to find table in this pub. It was a very warm day and couldn’t sit in the garden. We finally dined inside the pub. I had schnitzel who was very delicious, also my portion was big. We stayed very satisfied from our supper. Definitely we will visit pub again if we will get around area.

Bad points first, Landlord seems friendly but likes to talk about himself a lot not Interested in you and breakfast was the big disappointment, I dare not ask for a teapot it's a great big mug or nothing, (PG TIPS ) Yuk everything overcooked bacon was streaky which is a pet hate. Rooms so small it's ridiculous and bathroom although small are modern and functional however I nearly killed myself on the slippery floors. No point in mentioning it they are moving soon by all accounts, Landlady much more in tune and professional asking how we slept and beds are comfortable. Food is good and a nice variety not the best quality but it is a pub grub.

Appearances can be deceptive - the kerbside appeal isn't necessarily there - but this little pub is nicely appointed inside and offers a great B&B service. The bar was well stocked; restaurant food was well presented and adapted for GF; bedrooms were comfortable and clean. The full English breakfast, although extra, was superb. There was live music when we were there but all finished at a reasonable hour and it was quiet overnight. In fact, the live music was superb and a real bonus. Highly recommend for an affordable, comfortable stay.

All government rules in place and they are carried them out perfectly. Food was delicious 😋 Chips were perfectly cooked (which is hard to find) - fluffy on the inside and crispy on the out. Our room was very small, about 12 ft square. The small double bed was lumpy with only one very thin pillow. The kitchen extract fan below our window was running until 2am. The “en-suite” bathroom was about 2’6” wide with a pedestal washbasin so small that you could barely get two hands in it. The washbasin pedestal was so close to the toilet that you could not sit square on the toilet. Access to the stairs leading to the rooms was past the kitchen, along a corridor with grubby food stained carpet. The stale cooking smells was overpowering and even pervaded the bedroom. Definitely not worth £99 per night, even with two breakfasts included. You would be more comfortable at a Premier Inn.

All for a bargain price of £9.95 I was left highly disappointed the only substantial thing that I ate was the tomato ketchup condiment to try and soften the wafer chicken so unfortunately will not be getting lost again any time soon was very disappointed.

They also do other 'themed' nights food wise- steak night, burger night etc.The garden is large with plenty of activities for children- there is a huge Wendy house, swings, a blackboard, swingball, connect 4 and other garden activities which have kept our kids entertained! We have also been shown round the large vegetable patch at the top of the garden where they use the produce for a lot of the dishes on the menu which we've been really impressed by!

Will rant and rave about the amazing steak I had at The Poacher Inn. The most succulent tender steak I've ever tasted. Everything with dish made it even more tasty. Finished with the lemon posset and was really nice especially the shortbread and thyme biscuits accompanying it. Even better the place is dog friendly in the bar! My pooch loves going there - especially the biscuits she gets from the staff

We tried this when it first opened. We were not impressed by the service and most of the food had run out. The food we received was not very nice. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back on Saturday 22nd July. The food took ages to arrive - we had been there since 745 and didn't get our main course until 945. None of the staff checked that we were ok and in the end had to go and find someone. One of our party had a burger which had to go back as it was virtually raw & cold - it came back 2 minutes later no different. My food was cold too but by this time I was so hungry I ate it. They took the burger off the bill and gave us some free drinks but the staff were quite disinterested. Quote of the evening from one of the staff "The kitchen are having a bad evening"!!! Suffice to say we will not be going back!

As other reviewers have mentioned the menu is a bit limited, but my sense is that the management have decided to serve dishes they know they will be able to deliver to a very high standard rather than offering a wider choice but at a lower standard. The four of us in my party had steak and all four were cooked exactly as asked; the well-done not at all pink but not tough, the rare appropriately bloody. The desserts were fantastic but very large! My sticky toffee pudding would easily have served two. Perhaps making the portions smaller and reducing the price accordingly should be considered. To summarize, the food was of an above average quality, the service was attentive and friendly, the décor attractive without being over stylized. Overall it was a very good experience. I know The Poacher Inn is under new management and I really hope that they can make a success of it. We need more unpretentious, good quality, non-chain restaurants/pubs like it.

Party of 11 of us stopped off for lunch here. Found the staff very willing to help and had great service. The lunch time menu could be a bit more exciting as it was quite limited. I asked if they did salads and had a lovely salmon salad which wasn't on the menu. Nicely renovated inside. Burgers looked good!

My family and I stopped off at this pub/restaurant for a spot of lunch. Lovely friendly stuff. Brilliant garden area. They have an amazing Wendy house and a set of swings kept the children entertained while we could enjoy having a drink. Food was lovely some people may say on the pricey side but look at what you get and how it all came together. I would recommend coming here. It has just been recently refurbished as well.

Having noticed The Poachers had reopened, we decided to investigate and booked for Father's Day. The menu offered a choice between a roast or something from the barbecue. My wife and one son went with burgers, other son had roast pork and I went for a Barnsley chop. The roast was very good and the vegetables perfectly cooked - i have rarely eaten such nice tasting cabbage. The barbecue came with salads - my son opted to have a portion of chips as an extra instead. Again the salads (five) were very fresh and sublime - the tomatoes with garlic were superb. The burgers were freshly made and perfectly seasoned and served juicy. My chop was probably the most disappointing, good flavour but slightly tough. We then had desserts which all passed our test for excellence. The cheeseboard was a really good choice as you could choose the cheeses, all farm cheeses, for your board.A few issues around service - the main courses were a little staggered but a good meal out made better by my free pint for Fathers Day

My partner and I recently visited for lunch on a Sunday. We found the Sunday menu choice to be very small and not a lot of choice for myself who is vegetarian, except for a goats cheese salad at £12.95 which we were not willing to pay that much for a salad. We instead ordered the sharing cheese board. The title was misleading as sounds like you get a selection of cheese but actually is a baked Camembert with a couple of sticks of celery and a couple of slices of bread. The menu said chutney also came with it but ours didn't. Felt like it was not worth the price of £12.95 and left disappointed. We had something similar (baked Camembert) at another restaurant the other month and it was only £8.95 and came with selection of bread, Apple, grapes etc.The pub itself is nice and the staff were nice but we would not visit again due to the lacklustre overpriced food.

King-Ensuite room small and very dusty, no restaurant facilities, sign on bar as you check in states restaurant is closed. Breakfast although included in the price is by voucher that you have to redeem down the road at the shop/cafe. None of this advised at time of booking. Two of the three table lamps did not work, hairdryer did not work. Bed was not comfortable and location was noisy with road traffic and helicopters flying late into the night.Shame as photo's and write up looked great but a disappointment for the price.

Stayed there 31st July 2015. Room very small, dust bin in bedroom full of rubbish. Room very cold, table lamps not working. Paid for Bed and Breakfast, was told that breakfast was being served from 7am at the local shop/post office a short walk away from pub. Waited outside 25minutes but no one arrived. So had to leave without even a drink. I do not recommend this pub to anyone.

Idyllic village atmosphere, good old fashioned traditional English pub. Sunday lunch offered a choice between Roast Beef, Roast Pork, Salmon along with a vegetarian option - we chose Roast Beef cooked to perfection with a generous selection of vegetables. My Husband was too full for a dessert but I managed an exquisite Eton Mess - naughty but soooo nice! Well worth a visit. Just for the record their Christmas Lunch was superb too!

Busy when we went but not helped by the few empty tables not having been cleared of glasses, etc. and cleaned. My wife and I had to clear our own table and 'enjoy' our drinks next to other people's crumbs. Not helped by the three people on duty wasting their time chatting behind the bar rather than doing their jobs. Seriously unimpressed. Should have taken photos, I'll remember that next time....

Great food; hot, plentiful and delicious. Superb service from Louise and Nicole. Update: 10th November 2024. Another return visit and, again, great food and service. A huge thanks to Amy and Lilia for the 1st rate service today.
