Absolutely amazing hospitality, so welcoming and warm welcome. Landlady went out of her way to make my unwell mother in law comfortable. Food was amazing, fresh and tasty excellent portions , dessert was immense. Toilets and toiletries were lovely and clean Lots of little extras we were given and a great customer experience. X

Came in to say "Goodbye" to the landlady. They're closing down. Awful sad... end of an era. The food was typical pub grub, with a twist, so it was tasty. Plenty of it. They had a good range of ales.

Really enjoyed two all day breakfasts. One meat, one veggie. Tasty, generous portions, friendly service. Sourdough, grilled halloumi, poached eggs highlights on veggie plate.

Beautifully cooked fish and super crispy chips, all freshly cooked, will definitely be revisiting. The menu looks good, plenty of choice.

Visited the Royal Standard of England recently. Such a nice pub with really decent food - the fish and chips were delicious. We received great service from the bar man Phil, who was not only very knowledgeable about the beers on offer, but also knew a lot about the history of the pub. It’s the oldest free house in England! Highly recommend a visit. Cosy atmosphere inside, and the garden looks like it’ll be amazing in the summer!

The coffee cake was delicious, service was friendly and fast. Nice setting to see the traffic go by

I very much regretted my very late lunch. The steak was lovely and the service was very good. We'll be back with a real hunger.

Currently touring around the pubs in the area having recently relocated, so pleased we stopped here for a wonderful lunch in the glorious garden (beautifully landscaped with well kept and modern furniture) enjoyingthe atmos and valley views. We both had local beer (Tring Brewery) and a most excellent steak and caramelised onion ciabatta for £6! The service was welcoming and efficient and the locals equally so. This is currently our second favourite pub in the area and we will definitely be returning for an evening session. I highly recommend this establishment and urge people to use their local pub - two others a stones throw away from here on neighbouring ridges have closed in recent years 😪😪😪.

Relaxed atmosphere And lovely staff I had my family from Manchester visiting they really enjoyed everything from start to finish I live in Amersham I go the boot slipper fir Sunday lunch quite offer with my son and family Who also live in Amersham and we are never disappointed two of us have gush and chips and my sister in law had the chicken roast which is lovely and the service was so good as the place was packed so that shows you how popular restaurant it is my visitors are leaving today but off course I will visiting boot and slipper with my family as always thanks again for everything for making it a good day

We celebrated my belated Birthday at The Three Oaks and it was absolutely exceptional!! The Sunday Roast was impeccable and the desserts were sensational. This all topped off by the wonderful / helpful staff and superb service has really made our day / weekend!! Couldn’t recommend enough!!

My first time eating at The Bedford arms for several years despite living locally. 5 of us met for lunch and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food. Super service in a really lovely setting. Look forward to going again soon.

Some kind of joke. Booked a table for Fathers Day at 12pm. Seemed ominous when we arrived (10 mile Journey with 2 kids) and it was still closed at 11:55 with no sign of any life from within or the kitchen. Sat in garden until 12:10 then called them. Apparently “Jane usually opens before 12”, and “who said we’re closed?”. Could take no more of the farcical situation and left to find a place with far more accommodating staff with a level of competence. I’m sure this place may have been good at some point in time but whoever runs it now clearly has either zero customer care or is being seriously let down by whoever should be running it. The gardener is doing a great job though!!

So lovely to see Merlin’s Cave has finally found its perfect management team. Both restaurant and bar busy early afternoon on a Friday. We received a lovely warm welcome and shown to our table promptly. Lovely friendly and attentive staff. The food was delicious and freshly prepared. Thank you Merlins Cave- we will definitely be returning and highly recommended you to friends and family. Keep up with what you are currently doing as it appears to be working. X

We had a fantastic lunch on a Saturday from the moment we booked the table, when we informed the restaurant how many of us there were and that there would be a small child, they offered the use of a high chair without even being asked. On arrival, they had thoughtfully put our large table with high chair in an area out of the way and with plenty of room. Then we had the food, great home cooked pub food and plenty of it and all dishes piping hot. Nice choices on the specials board. Would recommend the Dumb Bell to anyone , and will definitely visit again if we are in the area again
