We booked for afternoon tea, definitely worth the money. £20 including two cocktails or Prosecco aswell as sandwiches and desserts what a bargain

My family and I came into the elephant and castle on Sunday. We have been coming here for years and love this pub for drinks!! I requested if the chef could make me and my mum a bacon sandwich and they confirmed they would. The food arrived my brother and husband got the chicken and bacon focaccia which apparently was good. But OMG we couldn’t believe how the bacon sandwich came out. 2 slices of stale bread, no butter and 2 tiny slices of streaky bacon. We sent these back obviously and asked for more bacon - chef put another 2 slices of streaky bacon. ‘Soooo generous of him’. We wish we had just sent them back again and got a refund. We got the impression the chef was not too pleased about making something that wasn’t on the menu even though it is a simple request. Don’t agree to make something for your customers if you’re going to serve rubbish.

food was ok , service good. Had some hiccups with food, but rectified by manager and reimbursed off the bill..

I had booked a table for 7 earlier in the week for a Sunday at 1pm. Admittedly when we arrived we were told there would be a wait on the food. We ordered five roasts and two fish and chips. 1hour 20 minutes after ordering our food arrived. The staff were apologetic when they brought out our food. Three of the four roasts were beef (described as sirloin), what arrived was beef brisket on the bone - which had been carried past our table in single packets 30 minutes earlier, about five minutes before the frozen Yorkshire puddings. The veg - one carrot and one broccoli spear was overdone and tough. People who arrived after us were served before. I did not have massive expectations before coming, but any expectations fell far short and I would never eat here again. Waiting staff were however doing the best they could. On paying and after complaining they did give us a reduction.

I wish I had some better things to say about this place but unfortunately, I don’t. Firstly, had put a table of 7 on a table clearly meant for 4 which meant we had to be moved. We then placed our orders and it quickly became clear that something had gone wrong as everyone else’s food came out but not ours. We chased 3 times and each time were told they would go check instead of being honest. When the food did come out, it was cold and the chicken was like rubber! We gave them the benefit of the doubt and placed dessert orders, only for them to get forgotten also! Overall, not great food and not good service.

We’ve had Sunday Roast a few times and generally it’s been excellent but this visit on 25/08/2024 was disappointing. The team served us well and we didn’t have to wait long at the bar to order despite it being very busy. Thereafter, we had to wait an hour for the food although they did say the were busy and warn us if a delay. She. My previous experience was that the food was all prepared in the kitchen. On this occasion it seemed like the roasties and mash was out of a bag. The veg was fine and the meat was okay but not great. Maybe we just got a bad day but will hesitate to go back, at least for a while.

Food selection was fine and tasted very good - hunter's chicken, chips onion rings etc.

As always the experience in Elephant and Castle is as good as it gets! The two bar staff Mel and Kelly both provided exceptional customer service! Extreme professionalism in all aspects of there job! I will be back!

Pleasant place and staff. Good food

We go to this pub a lot because we love the food . Staff are always running around working ,very pleasant place to have a lovely meal or even a drink, it has an outside garden ,very cosy out there . Highly recommend this place .

We attended a family party with children (8 and 10 yr olds). Great spot! The sun was beaming down in the pub garden with great seating and a range of cover (for those who would like shade). Down the end of the pub garden is a lovely open grassy area and stream (shallow enough for the children to paddle in and explore). Great staff at the pub and the drinks are good too.

Stopped by as right next door to where we were staying. They have real ales and plenty of drink options, so good from that perspective. However, knowing pub grub can be a bit poor, I went with the expensive option of slow roast beef. I however, it was tough as old boots, so returned it and got our money back. Besides that, the service was ok and they didn’t make a fuss over the refund when returning the beef, so not all bad. I suggest you drink here but eat somewhere else…unless you enjoy the taste of old boots that is!

Absolutely amazing pub, lovely setting, good food and staff very friendly with dogs. I love their menu from Sir Woofchester's. I had no idea something like that was on the market, and it is really handy when in the pub with your pup.

Me and my fiance when for lunch .on Sunday the 2nd June Lovely food and place to eat . Friendly staff . I really enjoyed the bee sting cider ,im still recovering from it now .

Went here on a Saturday evening with family. Booked a table, when arrived table was made available in main bar area, great location for atmosphere as didn'tfeel like sat in restaurant. Food was excellent, unbelievable quality & staff were good. Big question is, would i go again? BIG YES, and will tell driends as a gem of a find for food or justca beer..

Absolutely hands down the best Lamb Shank meal I have ever had. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and great service.

We booked a table online for noon yesterday (Monday 15th April) for the 2 of us plus my 95 year old father who lives in Amersham. We visit him every 4 or 5 weeks and like to take him out for a couple of meals. We thought that we would try The Elephant & Castle for a change. We arrived at noon. The place was empty so we waited near the bar. After a couple of minutes a lady came in from the garden. We told her that we had made a booking. She did not say a word - she simply pointed to a table over by the wall. We looked at the food menus that were on the table (no drinks menus) and we chose our meals. We sat at our table for around 20 minutes. We were still the only people there. Then the lady called across to us and said that we had to order at the bar because there was no table service. We did not see any signs to that effect. We have no idea why she had not told us that when we sat down. We went to the bar and ordered our drinks. She poured them out and we took them to our table. We went back to the bar and ordered our food. One of us wanted the fish cake dish. She said they didn't have any. We chose something else. We then ordered the vegetarian roast dish. She said they did not have any. They did have the fish & chips that my father wanted. The food was tasty when it eventually arrived - and she delivered it to our table ! We took our empty food plates and glasses to the bar and paid our bill. We will not be returning.

A special place with a pleasant design. happy. Well behaved dogs are welcome to own them.

Wow what a great find for Sunday Lunch fans … we were drawn in by the “bottomless gravy” (and roasties and Yorkshire pudding) offer because there was so much choice on the Old High Street … but we will be back - fantastic service, great choice, great atmosphere, awesome building (I need to go back to finish looking at the pics/photos on the wall :) A real gem of a find - thank you for the best pub Sunday lunch and service we have had in years.

Very nice pub in a Grade II listed building. Good food choices at reasonable prices. Friendly and helpful staff and a welcoming atmosphere. Situated in the High Street of Amersham old town which is well worth a visit just for the various architectural delights.

A great find…delicious sandwiches -steak with caramelised onion and chicken,bacon and avo, both on flavoured focaccia with fat chips ..uummm. Very friendly and helpful staff, Francesca behind the bar. Every hospital trip should include a lunch here.

Visited here a week ago to meet family it was ok.

Excellent value for money and good quality Sunday lunch. Kids meals were also very good as were portion sizes. Delay in service, not surprising as it was a busy Sunday but still slower than was ideal. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Food tasty and hot. Service excellent. Staff very friendly too. We ate the Venison & Steak pie, was hot and very tasty, along with the vegetables.

Slow service on the food side. Lack of kitchen staff on a December Saturday. Leaking roof in the conservatory. Bar staff tried their best and we're friendly.

Friendly and great welcome plus a gluten free menu. Good food and lovely venue. Great little pub in a great place. Sandwich selection was good or full meals. They serve yummy mulled wine at Christmas which was a great cob us.

Elephant and castle is a lovely place with a vibrant atmosphere and catered to our rather large and loud family gathering perfectly. Apologies again 😁

Food was average, missing sour cream for nachos. Vegetables were undercooked .Long wait for food . Usually take pictures of my dishes ,not this time .

My favourite pub in Old Amersham. Friendly atmosphere and good food.Dog friendly. Denis ( Blue ) was really helpful , advising about the new food menu and the choices of beer they offer.

Had a lovely lunch on a Saturday. Food and service were excellent. A bit quiet but suited us.

Friendly and welcoming staff who gave great service with a 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude. One of the best pub burgers I've ever had (and I've had a few), beautifully cooked chips and not silly expensive. Well pleased.

My Irish friends loved the Guinness which means a lot as they are very picky with it haha. Nice food. Cozy atmosphere.

Such a lovely pub. Its my local pub don’t go anywhere else really, most of the staff know our drinks off by heart when we walk in Lovely and friendly staff, particularly Dennis, jacob and the owner. Good for food and evening of drinking.

Very good pub for both food and drinks, bar staff are all very friendly and professional. They all know my usual drink and have usually got ready to make it as I walk in. Particularly Dennis (blue). Would highly recommend for a quite night out or meal.

Evening meal midweek. Food was good, in fact better than anticipated. The drinks were on the expensive side, especially the alcohol free beer. Staff were friendly and service was prompt. Relaxed environment. Now the down side. The toilets, can't comment on the Gents but the Ladies a real let down. Grubby, not just tired, exhausted. Smelly, unwholesome, graffiti covered paintwork.

Spiffing day at The Elephant and Castle! I’ve never been so elated in all my life. I’ve arrived home and simply can’t contain my excitement. I just knew I had to hop on and write a review before my evening bath. The lovely people behind the bar practiced impeccable service, not to mention the incredible food! Myself and my colleagues are over the moon and can’t wait to come back. I’m actually feeling rather melancholy, knowing that I’m not there right now. Simply devastated. Can’t wait to come back and see what shenanigans that pesky bunch are up to tomorrow!

Very good experience, come here very often and is local to me so my order is always remembered. Never had a problem with any of the staff they are very nice and respectful and are always happy to have a chat when they can. Would recommend to anyone in the area

Bardzo urocze miejsce. Piłam tu tylko piwo, bo akurat bylam po obiedzie, ale polecam zatrzymac się tu na przerwę w biegu dnia.Gdy na dworze deszcz i wiatr, w środku jest bardzi cieplo i miło. Obsługa bardzo uprzejma I uśmiechnięta. Lokal przesiąkniety angielskim stylem, robi wrażenie, Naprawdę spędziłam tu bardzo przyjemne chwile.

Had a fantastic afternoon tea here last week, staff were amazing too. Nothing was too much trouble. Sandwiches and wraps were lovely and the scones were amazing. Would recommend.

A good pub with some interesting beers, and some very good food. We had the lamb shank, and the sausages & mash, and enjoyed both. Lots of space inc a surprisingly big garden at the back..

Went for afternoon tea, wouldn’t recommend. Presentation was very poor, grated cheese sandwich in thick cut bread? BLT with barely any B, wraps were awful - smoked salmon and cucumber in a wrap very odd, not nice. Huge scone, donuts, brownie and crumble served as the cake part - could only manage the scone!

Had the beef and venison pie, which was perfect.

Pleasant place, with delicious, tasty and well cooked food. Orders on the bar. Good variety of beers. Not too many people and different areas with a nice terraze.

Very friendly staff, good priced food and drinks. A great place to come and relax in our local old Amersham.

Love this pub for the atmosphere remember it for its large fireplace where you could literally sit inside it…. Unfortunately now there is a cast iron fireplace installed now…. Not eaten here so no comments on food…. But the drinks service is good.

Lovely comfortable pub. If you get a chance, treat yourself to a glass of pear cider (perry) called Bee Sting deliciously sweet with a smooth honey taste 😋😋

Visited the pub today. Lovely young girl at the bar. Took my order but sadly got the order wrong. I was made to pay extra money for your mistake,I didn't argue at it but felt it was unfair especially when being a toddlers meal. Sadly the other lady working behind the bar was very unfriendly and just made me feel awquid. Won't be recommending or coming back. You Need to work on some better customer service if you want returning customers. Sad really! Allot of potential to be had at your business.

Both food and service where absolutely lovely. Prices incredibly reasonable to. Definitely coming back next time we visit Amersham.

Came in here for a spot of lunch with my other half, my daughter and her best friend. Left very full and happy as the food was lovely and the portion sizes were spot on. The staff were so friendly too. Definitely coming back in here again.

This is the best pub in Amersham if you like a traditional pub. It'slovely and historic. Great drink options. The staff team is really great and as a result, we go at least once a week. Good with the kids.

Food was a good price, came very quickly. The garden is absolutely beautiful and has a great atmosphere with lovely bar and kitchen staff. Would 100% recommend.

Love this pub but.. Ordered honey and mustard sausages. Dry and not nice. Think they’re microwaved from left over breakfast.

Highly recommend this pub. There was a payment mistake/error on my part and collin was very helpful and the error was resolved without any hasstle. Fantastic atmosphere and service.

What a lovely evening - 6 of us had a meal and drinks on a busy day (quiz night) but felt very well looked after by Jay and Denis at the bar. Food was hot, generous and delicious and the whole atmosphere friendly thanks to Francesca running a disciplined and enjoyable quiz. Very happy to recommend 😁

Lovely garden to sit in for lunch. We took advantage of the sandwich, fries and soft drink for £10 offer and the sandwiches were tasty and very filling! Friendly welcome and service too.

Dined at the Elephant and Castle a few times while staying in Amersham. Very friendly and knowledgeable bar staff. Steaks were cooked beautifully and a decent selection of local and imported beers. Defo worth a visit!
