The Jolly Cricketers in Chiltern

Met my brother for lunch, half way for both of us. Well worth 160 mile round trip. Both the calamari and mussels starter were delicious. I would go as far as to say the mussels were the best I've ever tasted. I opted for fish and chips main. The quality of the fish was sublime, big fat chunky flakes of cod, almost creamy in texture that melted in my mouth. My brother ordered the seabass, after clearing his plate he commented, perfect sized portion. I even managed dessert , albeit out of nothing more than pure gluttonous greed. The cherry tart also received a well deserved thumbs up. Loved the atmosphere, especially the amount of dogs in the bar. Little gem of a place.

Cannot rave about this pub enough. We’ve been coming here for years and the most quintessentially English atmosphere fused with outrageously good food and top drink list never disappoints.Warm welcome from all the staff and locals always. Keep on keeping Jolly Cricketers ❤️

The food we had was great, but no gravy (really) and no coffee. They added 12% to the bill automatically but we chose to pay less which they were chilled about.

Very friendly and welcoming. The food was good, but I don't think I chose well in my main course. The food is extremely fresh, but my chips were soggy and food only warm. The hake (very tasty) had its skin left on, which was flabby. The mussels were delicious, as were the squid and soup. Will definitely revisit its a really lovely local pub.

Always good to go back, but in this case, it was to celebrate the life of a dear friend

We chose the Jolly Cricketers as it was dog friendly, appeared to cater for gluten and dairy free diets and was a convenient location for family travelling from Northants, Frome and visiting family travelling through from Spain. The starters were excellent. The main courses were not so good. I had been sent a menu as the party was due to be 12 in number and I had been told that I needed to pre order and pay a deposit. I called for the menu to be sent several times. We all made our choices, but when I called to place the order the party number had been reduced to 9, so I was informed by email that we no longer needed to pre order. When I placed the order I asked if the lamb came with an alternative to the tzatziki as stated on the menu that had been sent to me. I said that if it was a problem, I would choose something else. The lamb came, not with Greek salad, but polenta, and the food was cold. I would not have chosen polenta and we were not offered the up to date menu. I was asked if I had the menu that had been sent to me. I handed it to the staff. No proper apology was forthcoming! Most of the other food was good.

We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary in the garden marquees. Everything was perfect, Chris and Amanda went out of their way to ensure the evening ran smoothly. JJ and Christian ran the bar brilliantly and Matt and his team did us proud with delicious food. The feedback from our guests was glowing. Local friends helped with decor and cake which were fabulous It was such a memorable night Thank you all xxxx

Very disappointing that we could not order food from the rear garden so we could watch the Chalfont Wind Band. So we spent a lot of money on food and drink for a partial side view of the wind band and under cover on a sunny afternoon. I chose the steak and it was mostly fatty gristle. Really disappointing.

Very nice food, though a bit more generous portion would have been nice and the service was pretty good. Impressive.

Went for supper as was feeling particularly uninspired by the local restaurants and gastropubs. So glad we did. Plump prawn cocktails. Creamy burrata with heritage tomatoes. On point Sea bream. Wonderfully pink lamb rump with tzatziki and greek salad. Moist burgers for the kids - we do try to encourage them to be adventurous but hey. All rounded off with tart cherry pies and elderflower lemon posset. As others have said staff and service were equally top notch. Normally I grumble when we go out for a meal. So many of the restaurants around here charge the earth but are dismally bland and low quality. Thank you Cricketers. A wonderful family meal. We shall be back!

A delightful pub in beautiful surroundings and quality service throughout. The food was first class, soo too the service from the friendly, happy, attentive staff. The menu was varied and a great selection for each course. (Of course, with Seer Green being ‘The Cherry Pie Village’ - there was only ever one option for desert…and it was delicious!)

Last minute decision to have a bite to eat late evening, and was pleased with our main courses of mussels and risotto, well cooked and presented by friendly staff, just a smidge on the expensive side…

Always good food and choice of drinks ,service with a smile or a bit of a chat or banter,consistently good ,best to reserve a table too avoid disappointment

Went for lunch and had the most amazing fish and chips, but not done in the traditional sense, though the presentation paid homage to it, by having a small battered piece of cod served on top of delicious pan fried cod and lots of home made mushy peas, served with the most wonderful thick cut home made chips with the skin on. Even the tartare sauce looked home made and was so fresh

A delicious lunch today (very fresh haddock and wonderful homemade tartare sauce with tarragon, and a delicious risotto), accompanied with superb service and a fair price. Will definitely be back!

First visit in a long time but won't be our last Great food I had hake&cod cheeks fish & chips lovely the hake could have been a tad hotter to be perfect the roast beef was fab I'm told and everyone had a empty plate So that speaks for its self .

Lovely pub food and great atmosphere and drinks. Bar and restaurant are similar places but the bar allows dogs, which is an added bonus!

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here . The atmosphere was great with excellent service and food . My only slight negative was that we booked well ahead and chose the restaurant. We felt wedged between the door and the serving area . It didn’t feel like a restaurant experience with the guests open the door behind us or the waiters squeezing past Apart from this - excellent

We had an excellent meal at The Jolly Cricketers! The food was first class. There was a good choice of drinks. I would certainly recommend a visit you won't be disappointed!

We were looking for a pub lunch, and we needed to go to a warm place as the Rain was non stop all day. We were served straight away, and sat and studied the menu. We fancied a beef burger, and we ordered one with chips. It was out of this world. The chips were in skins and big, but absolutely beautiful, we had the best burger we have had for years. Service was excellent, and we can’t wait to return.

Delicious celeriac soup to start But unfortunately Mains were disappointing. Gnocchi was a very unappetising looking plate, mainly brown with very little colour on the plate. I had a salad which looked very nice But all our dishes were very salty, so much so the roof of my mouth became sore.You could see the rock salt all over the plates. Also have to mention the coffee was not hot ! A shame as it was recommended to us by a local!

Family booking for new years day, early evening. After both hearing and reading excellent reports we were all looking forward to a good family meal. Limited menu, ok, it's new years day, however, we were all so disappointed, linguine with Cornish seafood, served packet spaghetti with shrimp and inedible calamari, tasteless. Burger, greasy and 1 serving contained a foreign body..answer from staff .we will knock that 1 from the bill. Nothing else said. Fried fish, thick better, chewy not crunchy. All in all. Awful, averaging 20£ per head for pub food. Will not be back.

The £21 Roast Beef Meal was appalling........... Cut of the meat was not good at all. Wife's plate came with half her portion made up of fat - not even a fellow customer's dog would have eaten! Potatoes tasted like they had been left out for hours and the cabbage and gravy just a pathetic after thought... I think it is disgusting in this day and age to charge this sort of money for a completely unacceptable dish. Wont be coming back.

Village pub that successfully spans the divide between village local and gastropub. Its dog friendly and very welcoming. Excellent beers from rebellion brewery and occasional other guest beers. Well worth a visit. Sunday lunch booking essential although you can still show up for an ad hoc pint or two

We ordered roast beef the dinner was ok apart from more fat then beef, we brought this to the attention of the waitress who just smiled , they then got the bill wrong , we then waited ages to pay, however I have rung on several occasions regarding this issue and I have been advised I we will receive a voucher I’m still waiting Not impressed

Saturday evening table for four in the bar. Great atmosphere (helped by rugby on TV, supported by locals). Food is locally sourced from well known suppliers. Everything is freshly cooked not pre-packed portion controlled, so be prepared for a wait when they are busy - and they do get busy (so book). Well cooked ribeye steak, lovely hake, perfectly cooked chicken followed excellent starters of cured salmon, crispy chilli squid and artichoke soup . No room for dessert. Good selection of well-priced wine by the glass and Rebellion ale. Lovely staff and the owner is a nice chap, rightly proud of a thriving pub. Highly recommended.

I was recommended to go there as the food is excellent, I was absolutely in heaven as the food was even better than I thought. My family ordered quite a few dishes like the fabulous scotch egg, the mussels were fresher than in a coastal restaurant, also the sea bass melted in mouth, every single dish is elaborated with fresh produce, if you are a foodie, don’t miss it. Also to mention the nice staff, particularly a Spanish young guy that went for the extra mile providing excellent service. Definitely will go back!

Nice pub restaurant and food. They didn’t have our booking for some reason but got us a table outside and a free bottle of Prosecco as a gesture. That’s was nice!

Absolutely delicious lunch here today - moules mariniere to start followed by chicken breast with girolles & tarragon butter. The mariniere sauce in particular was a highlight - very authentic, top marks to the chef👏 Lovely service too. Looking forward to my next visit there already!

Just really loved the surprise of this place. Looks kinda ordinary outside and the inside is a nice mix of old and new. Love their support of local produce and producers. Staff super friendly with perfect balance of helpful but chilled. Food really tasty. Squid 🦑 not great (you gotta get that right in the world of squid games) but everything else spot on. A brilliant start to a great afternoon as we went on to the Woodfine Wine tour just down the road which was fab!!!!

Really like this pub. Food was very good, really friendly helpful service, beer from Rebellion, a decent selection of wines. Got rather noisy when the restaurant area filled up, so it became hard to hold a conversation.

One of the nicest meals we have had and service at the jolly cricketers today over many years. So nice to see it doing well and producing such nice food and service.

This was our first visit to this charming & wonderful country pub. Attentive & friendly service. Delicious fish dish to eat plus a great variety of desserts to choose. Will be back again in the near future.

We had a great lunch here today. Four adults and two children, we ate in the restaurant area, we had a good table in the corner. Our server was super, he was attentive to our needs and very efficient and charming. The food was superb, everyone enjoyed what they had chosen, the children’s fish and chips was just right, both boys enjoyed their meal.

We just spent a great evening at The Cricketers. The service was friendly and trouble free. All of the food from starters through to desserts was of a very high standard. Fresh with fantastic flavour. Much better food than some of the other local pubs in the same area..... We shall return.

Had a great, relaxing meal here with a friend. Nice varied menu, including a lot of seafood options. i had mussels and my friend had sea bass, both of which were good. There are some interesting menu combinations. Service was very attentive and good. would go back

Food was excellent I had a rib eye steak cooked to perfection. Chips were good But no option for a steak sauce apart from butter 🧈 such a shame hence 4 ⭐️ Toilets also need a bit of a clean & modernist Lovely little pub would definitely go back

Have not been for a while, but good to see it’s still excellent. I had the squid and then a superb Hake dish. Decent wine that’s not a rip-off and fantastic service. Just the sort of thing I like.

A warm welcome, a beautiful pub full of character and charm. Great selection of drinks, staff super nice and the crackling fire was great. I do not think the Sunday roast was worth £19.50 tho. Small portions and beef a little tough.

Excellent Staff, great food, good choices o drinks, a must go pub! Being a Veggie, it was good to see options to chose from. Nut roast was excellent and would love to order it again on my next visit, probably on a bike ride! Pricing was a bit on a dearer side, may be something to look into? Overall, excellent experience.

Great gluten free options, and most excitingly for a gluten free person, they do gluten free onion rings. Everyone’s food was excellent, the service was fantastic. Highly recommend.

Yet again a great experience at this warm and welcoming pub. Great welcome, not over the top, good beer and wine list. The food was amazing and the feather blade of beef melted in the mouth. Highly recommend this as a smart pub food destination.

Pub looks nice from the outside but inside is a different storey. Needs a good refurbishment to make is cosy and comfortable it's very basic!! Foods not 2star Rossett either.

5 adults and 3 young children had to wait 1.5 hours to get Sunday lunch. The table had been booked weeks in advance. Our first drinks order was lost and did not arrive. We had to go to bar and collect a jug of tap...

Used to live in the village having grown up there. Visited from Cornwall. Chris & Amanda have/are doing a great job. The pub retains its sleepy Chiltern village charm, with a warm welcome , great beer selection and wonderful food.

Food was very tasty and they have done a nice job of the outside area to allow more dining. However, we were a little surprised at the cost of some of the main courses - one of our party had asparagus as a main course and it was £16 which seemed very expensive for what was received. The rest of our meals were very good.

I’ve eaten here a few times and love visiting when we visit. Friendly welcome and an instant community feel. I haven’t been lucky with food as on a visit in October I tried a fish dish and despite being full of flavour the portion was small and didn’t reflect the price I paid, I sat with food envy as I watched my friends devour the delicious beef roast. More recently I choose belly pork which was cold in the middle and more annoying the crackling was soft (I Know)… when you indulge with a pork roast I have pre conceived ideas because you want crackling to be crisp and delicious. On a positive, the roast potatoes are amazing and the gravy is perfect. I will return as it’s a great place.
