Had a wonderful alfresco meal at The Nest, the new outdoor bar and kitchen in the beer garden at the Golden Eagle. Food and service were fantastic, and we were treated to a magnificent sunset over the fields at the back. Heading there again this weekend – highly recommended!

Had roast pork at this pub. It looked very nice, the meat was good, BUT, found the cauliflower cheese overcooked, the cabbage undercooked (Al dente I like, but could not call it that) the roast potatoes greasy. As for apple sauce (which I usually love & plenty of), it was a little squirt of puree about 3cm in diameter with something else added. Not what I would call apple sauce, and that for me, absolutely spoiled it.

Excellent menu and food made by Chef Chris that really cares - a rarity for a pub. He came out and spoke with us to see how things were - and this is why his food and presentation is so good, he comes out to find the feedback from the customer that eats it. The atmosphere is missing something, at the moment, but we did go at a quiet time, and they have said their working on hosting live music in their garden from August ('24). Definitely deserving attention from the AA Rosett scheme. Best of luck to them! We'll be back

Beautiful country pub with sensational food. I went to this pub from a recommendation from a friend and it was such a pleasant surprise. Majority of the time food in pubs are very hit and miss, but the food here was incredible. Every dish was delicious and presented beautifully. I had the chicken N chips, and my partner had the duck and black bean - Both were sensational, and such great value for money. The pub has a very homely feel to it and the staff were helpful and informative with the menu. Ellina was super friendly and kind. Chris the Landlord made the effort to come over and check I was happy with the food/ enjoying my time - which was a lovely touch. I would 100% recommend visiting this pub and I can’t wait for my next visit.

Historic traditional village pub with a Sunday lunch to die for, honestly the very best for miles around. Landlord is a fine dining chef by background with incredible talent; initially took him a while to get the balance between fine dining and local country pub expectations, but he is nailing it now, proper pub classics done with an unexpected positive twist and a good menu for the little ones if you are bringing kids. Fantastic front of house team who manage the local drinkers and the diners with a smile and real customer focus, but visitors should recognise if you come in its a smallish country pub and while you have a wonderful meal you might over hear the locals stories and banter or an impromptu quiz going on in the public bar…. :-) Nice touch is that they put on arts, crafts and treasure hunt for the little ones on bank holiday weekends which goes down well with families. Overall if you want wonderful food in a traditional pub atmosphere it ticks all the boxes.

I think the menu doesn’t do the food here justice because I’ve eaten here twice now and the food is SUBLIME honestly. The menu changes so today I ordered chicken and chips but I have never had chicken like it before I swear. My friend (a foodie) commented that it was Michelin Star level. Dessert was delicious too. I’m coeliac, gluten free options are clearly labelled and explained when ordering. The staff are so friendly and helpful. It’s dog friendly which is a bonus in my opinion. There’s a lovely beer garden if the weather ever improves. I’ll definitely be making more regular visits here. My friend said she’ll deffo be back too. Don’t be put off by the unconventional menu and just trust that whatever you order is going to be divine.

We had a family dinner here on a Wednesday night and it was fantastic! Had a bottle of Prosecco in the sun out the front, and then dinner in the front room inside. We had starters, main course and dessert; the soda bread, prawn cocktail, cauliflower mac n cheese (starter portion), chicken and chips and the pork schnitzel. Then the blue cheese and the Biscoff cloud. Everything was excellent, especially the pork and the Biscoff cloud! The chef, Chris, who is also the publican, was very friendly and came out to chat, and Ellie the bar tender was also extremely friendly, bubbly and chatty. A really lovely evening and experience all round. We will be back!

Having been turned away for dinner at 7pm just down the road at Camilla’s hubby’s place as the kitchen was closed, we took a chance and tried the Golden Eagle. Are we ever glad we did! The new ownership has completely changed the menu into a gastronomical delight! It’s a small menu but don’t let it fool you - the quality and taste is that of a Michelin star restaurant for a fraction of the cost and without any pretentiousness. We (as a family) have tried the pies (incredible!) & The “chicken & chips” (an unfair description of the perfectly cooked poussin & rosemary potatoes). If you still have room, the sticky toffee is to die for! Definitely going to make this our go to dinner place now.

Incredibly refined food, yet such a low price! The chef is clearly a highly-skilled chap, very well travelled and knowledgeable. Just a huge surprise to have eaten here today for lunch and enjoyed it so much. Amazing value! Two course for £10 - the pea soup was far better than this; a velvety complex veloute with fresh young peas, garlic flowers, a lovely tuille. And then a delicious bowl of beef chilli, not a big dish but beautifully crafted with depth and care and flavour. Ridiculous value! The lady serving was also a total fizzbang of positive energy, focus, care and effort. Thank you folks! It was superb. We will be back, for sure…. 👍

The onion veloute and aged beef were absolute standouts (genuinely on par with some Michelin star fare I've had in the past) and the chocolate mousse was excellent (the salted chocolate crumb just knocked it out of the park!) Very laid back, cozy and comfortable vibe with a lovely log fire. Perfectly pulled pints and friendly service. Had a nice chat with the wonderful landlord, who strikes me as someone who genuinely takes care in his establishment and the food/drinks/experience provided to its patrons. Honestly, cannot recommend this spot more highly!

We had the new lunch menu and it was really delicious, 3 generous servings of extremely flavoursome food. A really high end menu, we would thoroughly recommend eating here. The owner was very friendly and attentive with his service and clearly passionate about creating outstanding food!

Found out from a friend the chef had moved to the Golden Eagle from the Bell in Bovingdon. Absolutely fantastic roast and deserts. Its rare that the chefs speaks to there customers and it goes a long way. Brilliant. Oh the wife said put the fire on earlier. Thanku again. Defo will be back and already spoke to friends and even my clients

I totally loved this authentic and quintessentially British pub. In my honest opinion, this is the best pub in the Chesham area. The beer was great and there was a nice seating area outside. A good sized garden round the back and a spacious car park all help to make this a great place to have a beer.

My first sunday lunch at this recently refurbished pub. The food was really excellent with some modern touches to a traditional roast and the only reason I have not given 5 stars is because there were no smaller or childrens options. The front of house were struggling a bit but they had such a lovely attitude and definitely contributed to a really comfortable atmosphere. Well done on the re launch we will be back

Big changes at the Golden Eagle with a young new landlord. Chris has managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat with Punch fully backing his project, with a big investment. Work is currently being undertaken on the outside and garden for a full revamp. This lovely village pub has been given a new lease of life. Good value beer prices, a very warm welcome and a new high quality menu coming as soon at the renovations are complete. The Eagle has struggled historically, but the future is very much bright 😄

Amiable landlord who is also a qualified chef so full of anticipation for when the kitchen opens. The building is of real interest.

The bartender was unfriendly. The atmosphere was unwelcoming, hence, I was there for about 15 minutes and that was because it's all I could withstand. The garden was one BIG mess. My overall rating is not even half a star, but a very tiny dot on the star.
