A Very disappointing stay on 9th Oct room was awful, shower needed a good clean, some mould and we wouldn't use it. Layer of dust on tile ledge and a cracked wash basin. Stained curtains and needing attention to hang properly. Stained bed bases. Just one red bush tea bag! Pizza toppings very sparse and breakfast not great, staff had to go and buy milk alternatives and no white bread. Embarrassed as Canadian relatives also had a room. Not good value for money by a long stretch and room is not " luxurious' as sign in bar states! Bar was best part of stay and the two members of staff we had contact with very friendly.

Absolutely brilliant listed pub and hotel. Good selection of beers and food. Food is a choice of traditional pub food or Indian cuisine. Please support this lovely old pub and superb staff, because they've suffered from flooding recently and had to close on a number of occasions. Ignore the road closed signs, because the pub is definitely open. In fact if you ask nicely and promise to give them your custom; you can park your car in their carpark, then go shopping in Chalfont( support local school businesses).

First time visiting the pub for food. Firstly, carvery is advertised outside the pub as starters, main and dessert for £16.50 different to the menu inside. We had high hopes for the food as per the previous reviews on Google. I’m not sure if we hit the Sunday Roast on a bad day but the beef and Yorkshire puds were awful , the rest was edible. I’m afraid that’ll be the first and last visit to the pub for food. Such a shame!

Unfriendly abrupt manager and bar staff. It felt like being there was an inconvenience for them although the pub was empty at this point. Atmosphere picked up later with more people. Food was mediocre. Pictures online show the fish finger sandwich with doorstop bread and breaded cod goujons, I was served not more than Birds Eye fish fingers in some hovis which was quite disappointing. Shame as beautiful pub, great location.

Nice olde-worlde pub downstairs in a good location. We were staying two nights and had to pay in advance. The room was tatty and old. The bathroom wasn't clean, and a torn old shower curtain was covering the dirty window will. We made the mistake of ordering dinner - over-priced fish and chips with the smallest portion of undercooked frozen peas I've ever been served. No vegetables or salad available on a Friday night, apparently. The fish was advertised as beer battered cod on the menu. I am pretty certain it wasn't cod, it was insipid, cheap white fish. I'll be contacting Trading Standards. There was a mouse under our table, which the (nice) waitress niftily caught by grabbing a glass off and covering it. Not sure what she and her colleague did with the mouse, as we escaped outside. I'll be contacting Environmental Health. We stayed here because couldn't get a room anywhere else. Come for a drink. Avoid eating or staying.

Having had a nice few drinks and a lovely breakfast here (and feeling sorry for how long they were shut over the winter with all the flooding!) I advised several family members and friends to stay there when they visited. The rooms apparently are very dated and rather dusty in the corners etc so not great for £80+. Much worse than that my niece left her ear pods in the bed when they left, realised before they hit the motorway so turned back to get them, within 30 minutes of them leaving the room they were gone! No forced entry…. They were subsequently tracked to two quite fancy domestic addresses in GX that day. We’ve informed the greyhound who have this far been unapologetic and unhelpful… the cleaning company is called Sheba. I will be calling them today. Very unimpressed and will 100% not be recommending them to any other guests again or popping in for a drink.

I recently stayed here for a funeral - it was a tricky time made harder by the staff at this hotel. Good things - bar staff amazing, breakfast was good, clean sheets & towels Bad things = Management were rude to staff and customers, disorganised and failing the little hotel. Things wrong with my stay: - I booked a double and was given a shabby twin with single duvets - gentlemen's clothes left in the wardrobe - presumably left by a previous guest - questions cleaning staff - TV didn't work - shower hose had so many leaks that that any power in the shower was lost, making it impossible to shower properly - Divan bed had a shabby base that was on show no sheet - windows had restrictors - goof thing, a note saying do not tapper but all unattached. - curtains half hanging off - Bathroom was actually a cupboard with a toilet and a shower - the entire space was old, worn and didn't feel clean. I've stayed in cheaper and better hostels. The pub has 12 rooms, which the funeral party accommodated more than half, paper thin walls - old pub - fine. Management asked us to keep the noise down, however doesn't feel the need to remind all guest of the thin walls - my sleep was ruined by the neighbouring room watching TV loudly all night. All in all this knacked little pub has so much potential but being run into the ground. I only stayed one night, in the morning i left my comments with a team member who wrote them down so the manager could contact me - they didn't, I emailed directly a few days later to ensure the note hadn't been misplaced - no reply. This gives a true indication of how much they take feedback seriously. There are many places to stay in the area - i would avoid this at all cost.

The front of house staff are great and give a good service, thank you. Extremely disappointed with the kitchen on 25.04.24 in the evening. Poorly presented food, "seasonal veg" was cheap peas, carrots and BOILED parsnips....as per 1970's. Pie of the day was chicken and mushroom - a beef pie was served. Fish and chips were very poor. There is only one shared toilet - it is appreciated that there are environmental problems surrounding the pub at the moment BUT customers should be warned about this on entering. And the problems have been around for months now. I'm sure most men would not mind using a "Portaloo" outside?! The current situation is not pleasant for women. And I wonder if one shared toilet for multiple customers is legal? The management team needs to address the above issues as I won't be returning and will be advising friends and family not to visit The Greyhound.

This evening i was extremely disappointed, we had been out for a work dinner and we wanted to finish our evening in the Greyhound. We finished our meal at 21:15 and we strolled to the pub. When we arrived there was no lights on and the pub seemed shut. I doubled checked the Greyhounds opening hours online and it said they shut at 11pm. If these hours are incorrect please do change your hours online as i got my work group excited because they had never experienced this pub. I also came with my family on sunday 14/01 and i wanted to go for a drink at 7pm however the pub was again shut. Before i departed for the pub i rang ahead and a gentleman spoke to me and told me that they were deep cleaning the kitchen and were unable to have the bar open. I am deeply dishearted that my local pub has changed drastically in the last 6 months it’s no longer the homely feeling pub it was before. I will now find another local that will appreciate my custom. I would appreciate a rapid response to this as it has ruined my week in my home town.

No cooked breakfast available on second of two day stay. A very surly bar attendant exclaimed it as "not her fault" that the chef hasn't turned up. Overchargement made on bill which has yet to be refunded, and no response to letter of complaint received. Staggeringly, there were several spelling errors in the address of the hotel on the invoice. Would not come here again to eat. We arrived at the bar, was kept waiting, I had to call the barmaid to serve me(I was only person at bar) and it wasn't even busy. When we sat down to eat, we were told they only had either Pork or Gammon for roast, no one had told us this before we ordered!! Restaurant wasn't busy, yet the people that were in there had waited over an hour or so and were complaining. Some even cancelled and left. So decided to do the same. Luckily for us we did cancel as someone had ordered the pork and it was a joke! Staff were school girls and it was a bad experience. Earlier that morning before booking I rang the pub who informed me there was no cavery going on that day, but were serving roast dinners, telling me there was chicken, beef, pork or gammon. It wasn't because they had run out, as it hadn't been open that long. Its a shame really because it's a nice place, but until they find decent management I would not recommend it at all.

My wife visited a friend from Australia and thought they’d pop in for lunch after a long country walk. Well what a disappointment the waitress was so abrupt and no compassion of understanding of the needs for a vegetarian. The Mac n cheese and veggie lasagne were not available, so my wife asked for mixed veg in a katsu sauce with rice. The friend ordered fish n chips and that was not a generous portion or something that one can rave about. The veggie dish brought out was limp blanched savoy cabbage with some rice and sauce. My wife advised she asked for mixed veg and the waitress snapped back ‘ the menu says cabbage!’ Taken back a bit by this very poor service, they addressed the issue with management, who did try to help by knocking off £7 from the bill but still £10 for rice and cabbage. Would not recommend this place for the service or food, fine for a drink or two

Staff are very helpful. Breakfast is a continental but you can order a cooked breakfast (for a charge). It is right on the roundabout so it is best to turn left towards the roundabout and go from there.

Booked the new carvery , all the food did look appetising, big error the plates were cold, very cold! We went for lunch at 12.30 yesterday , place was not at all busy The food was only lukewarm, which was very disappointing, I don’t know what’s happening in the Greyhound but standards have definitely dropped.

Held an event for 16 people yesterday here. We had the carvery lunch and then moved to the nook area of the pub, where we held our own quiz. Fantastic service from Meena with regards to organising our booking. The food was amazing and the desert was to die-for!!!!! We had a wonderful afternoon, the staff were great, food was great and a really nice cozy friendly pub.

Came for lunch on Mothersday… amazing food! Can’t fault the chefs or kitchen staff at all! When we got there our table wasn’t ready which wasn’t an issue, but when we were seated, we were told we only had an hour and a half… then we were given the menu 15 minutes later…once we had finished our main course, we ordered desserts. While waiting for our dessert, we were told that we had to be gone in 10min and we were offered the bill! Told the waiter that we would love the bill… WHEN WE FINISH OUR MEAL! Overall, lovely meal and amazing food! Our primary server, Jake, was very polite and helpful but the other waiter, a larger gentleman with glasses, came across quite rude and made us feel like we weren’t welcome. Complements to the chef, and hopefully the other wait staff can take a page out of Jakes book.

Rooms are nothing remarkable, although perfectly clean and decent. However, the staff are all a credit to the establishment and although I did not eat here the food looked of very good quality. A very good stay.

Arrived for lunch, only one other table occupied in restaurant. Ordered meal, all three of us opted for the steak and ale pie. We waited almost an hour before the meal arrived all of which were on cold plates, we did comment but no explanation. My pie had one piece of meat in it, all our vegetables were so al dente that we couldn’t cut them. We had to try 3 tables before we found salt in the pepper/salt mill. Flowers on the table were mostly dead. Complained about lack of meat in pie and this was taken off the bill. We have all lived in the village for over 50 years but will not return in a hurry!

Nice pub that maintains its ambience whilst clearly having been updated and improved. The lunch menu is minimal, and a little on the pricey side, but the food was OK.

The front of house staff were amazing and friendly, really helped with our needs. Unfortunately the food was a bit disappointing. The food was not very good, not what it was mentioned to be as described on the menu. The food that was cooked properly tasted very good. Atmosphere was ok but the tables were too close together and the chairs and table we were sat at were very high like bar stools and not very good for children. One of us had to wait for a new meal while everyone else ate. The price was high for what we had to eat and no discount was offered or taken of the bill for the food that was sent back.

The chef is clearly very talented, the food was sublime - and he didn't rely on just his food to leave a good impression, he and the General Manager had the good manners (and good business sense) to make a point of coming to our table and engaging us in a fun conversation for 10-15 minutes after our meal. Very refreshing to meet such a talented young couple who are so passionate about what they are doing. Really hope The Golden Eagle is a huge success for them.
