Went to the Kingsarms Restaurant last week, with my family 9 of us have to say the setting is really nice, very casual and welcoming, we only had a main course but everyone was really happy, excellent food and very generous portions, special mention to the steak pie, outstanding really, and the service from Astel and Daniel was first class ! Keep this going, we'll be back.

I ended up at The King's Arms as I was staying at its sister hotel, the Crown. The front desk at The Crown referred me here. The staff at the pub inside The King's Arms were excellent. Most of the customers only seemed to be drinking. There were a lot of locals. In fact, I think I was the only customer who ordered food. The food was average pub food. Nothing great but nothing bad. The only disappointment was the cheese plate. The restaurant was empty. It appeared to be the same food menu as the pub. For my second night in Amersham, I had dinner at Artichoke directly across the street from The Crown and NOT affiliated with either The Crown or The King's Arms. They were busy (about 60% full) on a Saturday night. By contrast, I only saw two people eating at the Indian restaurant inside The Crowne. There wasn't a single customer in the bar (pub). So, it seems like the hotel is doing something wrong when the F&B options at its two hotels are dead with little to no customers on a Friday and Saturday evening. There is also zero incentive to eat and drink at the hotel as a guest. Maybe a small incentive, like 10% off as a guest or a complimentary glass of wine with a meal purchase, would keep guests eating and drinking at the hotel. All things considered, The King's Arm was an average English pub.

I remember seeing the King's Arms as as a child in an episode of the classic 1980s TV series 'Hammer House of Horror', & always knew I'd visit one day! Well, I have done at various times over the years for meals & drinks, but don't think I've ever left a review before. It's an imposing, beautiful & historical building that quite rightly takes pride of place in Amersham old town, & acts as a rustic inn, a hotel and a restaurant. My wife and I decided to pop in on our way home from visiting Hughenden Manor in Wycombe, & we def made a very good choice. It was very cosy in the downstairs bar with late-afternoon drinkers (& a few people having meals too). Staff were friendly & helpful & there was a good drinks' range, & a pleasant atmosphere free of loud music or TVs. It made the perfect place for us to relax before we went home, & we didn't really want to leave! We will def be back again soon for another visit - if you've never been here, then def give it a go.

Totalmente recomendable.

Would not return. Went for an afternoon tea for a birthday celebration on a Saturday afternoon. Was surprised there were only 3 tables booked for the whole afternoon (and not more) whilst we were there but in hindsight not surprised. We were not asked about which type of afternoon tea we wanted at any point during booking or on the day. Also not asked about any dietary requirements either at booking stage or on the day. It took 40 mins for tea to be offered and food came 50 mins after we first arrived. Quite surprised as it was only sandwiches, scones and small cakes. Nothing groundbreaking to warrant the time it took. We’re offered refills once and the staff vanished thereafter. No one to ask for anymore drinks, to clear the table, to bring the bill. All the things you would expect. We waited an hour before we got up only to find there was no staff around to settle up. We figured we would’ve been waiting all afternoon into the evening if we didn’t decide to leave. You want to support local businesses but hard to do when it’s this poor. The food was nice when it arrived but there was not much else going for this pub. Such a shame. Complaint made. Won’t be returning.

This is a well known hostelry in the area and I find it infuriating that the French manager can continue to get away with being so unfriendly almost to the point of being rude . He could not have been less welcoming if he tried and when it came to paying the bill didn’t even have the courtesy to say thank you ,he made you feel like customers were a nuisance . It would appear he is in the wrong profession and certainly does his motherland no favours . There are better places in Amersham to spend your hard earned £ £ … I suggest you go there instead.

Not expecting much, having been here before, and did not get much. Disappointing. Two of us had the Bacon and Brie Baguette. What a shame. The bacon had not been trimmed of fat so every bite pulled out the stringy contents. Never did find any Brie in either of our sandwiches. I tried the Cole Slaw, as served on the side in an “egg cup”. Pretty tasteless. The baguette was good and fresh baked, just a pity about the contents. Service was OK but the ambiance (at lunch time) was non existent, dark and dingy with the requisite old timer at the bar sipping his pint for the afternoon. Oh, I have just been reminded, the chips were good. Sadly one of our group was given crisps.

He was very loud and you could hear his conversations from the other side of the bar. I often come here regularly and all the girl staff are very polite and welcoming and I never have had to write a review like this, his manor does not fit with the other employees and I believe this distorted the atmosphere of the pub. I was in a group of six people, and arrived when there was no one in the pub around 1pm.No one was behind the bar either, and we had to wait around 3 minutes for somebody to show. One of my group order a coffee, when he received it I heard the French (I think) person in charge tell his staff to not serve any more coffee. My friend said the coffee wasn't very good.I normally would have ordered a coffee, but because I heard what was said, ordered a cold drink and a plough mans. When I was charged, I noticed a discrepancy in the pricing, as on the menu the ploughmans was £6.95, but the till was different at £7.95. The young barman was embarrrased, and apologised, and offered me another pint of soda and lime, which I declined as a pint was all I wanted. After waiting 25 minutes I had to ask one of the staff to check on my ploughmans, which then finally arrived. What I received was not a ploughmans at all, but a piece of bread with lots of lettuce, two very thin pieces of tomato and apple, three very thin small pieces of cheese, a small amount of grotty chips and a small amount of watercress. It was just a cheap looking sandwich.....very disappointing. I also noticed that even though the waiters were wearing masks when serving the food, one (I think the French one) continually didnt have the mask covering his nose. Not impressed at all.

Don’t have the bruschetta unless you actually want cheese on toast. I’ve never seen or tasted a bruschetta like it anywhere ever before.... and never want to again. Apparently the chef disagrees with us though!!!! Two of our party had the steak which they said was awful. Credit where credit is due - the puddings were lovely. And our waiter Rad was extremely good. He really seemed to care.. and was a generally nice bloke. But why would a restaurant in the beautiful old town of Amersham be empty on a Saturday night when Zaza’s is fully booked??? It opened at 7.30 and closed at 9.30. During that time ours and one other table were the only customers. The answer is that the food is not good. This is the sort of place that you’d expect to see Gordon Ramsey fixing - it’s in a beautiful town, the building is stunning, there are no customers but the chef thinks his food is delicious and can’t understand why his restaurant is empty. I will be calling the manager next week. This was not £194 between 4 well spent.

A group of us stayed for 2 nights, hubby and I stayed in the main building in a Deluxe room hoping for some comfort and character as the pictures depict. Everyone else stayed in the newer rooms at the back of the hotel and they were all absolutley delighted. Our Deluxe room was rather grubby, cob webs, broken light fitting and a dusty creepy wicker object that had no purpose other than to block the wardrobe door and take up room. Day 1 we were asked to leave the bar when it closed (having had a lovely meal in the restaurant we didn't want to venture out) and we were relocated to the lounge area which did not have enough seats for all of us. Some chose to retire, those that stayed were told off several times for talking too loud, everyone had retired by 1am. At 2:30 am however, I had to get up and confront the night porter of all people and 2 guests due to the noise they were making ! Day 2 having been out all day we returned to find our room had not been serviced. No big deal as I had brought along shower gel and shampoo but it's nice to have the bed made. Other annoyance was the TV not working at all, the receptionist on Day 1 tried her best to fix but was unable too and promised an engineer would look at whilst we were out - this along with the room being cleaned did not happen. Having paid a premium for this room it really was not worth the extra in fact quite the opposite which is a shame. Highly recommend the newer rooms, breakfast great and dinner excellent.

This review is very overdue. As a family of four we found ourselves homeless for 6 weeks due to unruly builders at the end of last year. David, Sarah and the team at the Kings Arms (and the Crown) went above and beyond to help us experience a very enjoyable stay at a time when we were so upside down and stressed as a family. Their hospitality, care and beautiful accommodation was well above and beyond what i have ever experienced (and we are very well traveled!). We spent the majority of our time in the town house which i cannot rate highly enough. I have lived in Amersham all of my life and i never knew that this gem was hiding there until just recently. Ideal for weddings, retreats or family holidays. The breakfasts where always first class with the best service no matter how busy. It was always seamless. The bar and restaurant at the Kings Arms was also a joy. To the point that they even helped me host my daughters birthday as we were residents for way longer than we had expected! We were not in the area for the most cheerful of reasons. We were attending a funeral at the crematorium just up the road. But decided to get there early and have some lunch. What a stunning building! Lunch was really good in such lovely old surroundings. Good service too.

We’ve been meaning to visit for some time and eventually had the opportunity on a cold Saturday afternoon to enjoy a family late lunch. The menu appears to be a simple pub menu with all the usual sorts of dishes....the reality is it’s amazingly well sourced, cooked and tasty ingredients served with great presentation and attention to detail. Fish and Chips with proper mushy peas, Tempura Halloumi and burgers with crispy chips are all excellent. Chocolate Orange and Sticky Toffee puddings also very tasty.

Not what we had expected. The soup of the day whilst very nice, appeared to have been microwaved which as you can imagine took a longer time to eat.

Choose from a pleasingly straightforward menu and you will receive well prepared, well presented and generous portions. Nice environment for a family meal with friendly attentive service. Very pleased to find that the temptation to serve minimal or voguish choice has been resisted. Beef, especially, was succulent and served exactly at the correct degree of pinkness to draw the best from the flavour.

I visited The Kings Arms as I was working nearby and staying at their sister hotel, The Crown. The pub has a lot of its original fixtures but is very clean and it was easy to find a seat on a weeknight. I ordered the Ribeye Steak and it came really quickly and cooked perfectly - Medium Rare. Service was friendly but not overbearing and the atmosphere is 'warm' but calm.

We came over from New Zealand to visit family and one of the things we wanted to do was take my invalid dad away for 3 days over Christmas. After looking on line for suitable places to take him as he hasn't got any legs we are pleased to have found The Kings Arms.. although some of the disabled facilities are not quite suitable for dad the hotel was fantastic. With its old world feel and in the lovely village of Amersham we felt we were miles away from Stanmore..where dad lives..The food was excellent including Christmas lunch and the staff went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. Dad loved the fire in the bar and purched himself there for a couple of afternoons..

We stayed in the hotel for a night, we were in the newer part. From our arrival the staff were so accommodating and couldn’t do enough to help. Comfy room and beds. Delicious breakfast. Very pleasant to sit in the lounge area by the open log fire. Would recommend. A tip for the hotel would be some secondary curtains that let light through but not make you visible from the outside.

I have now visited with friends and business colleagues and it never fails to impress. The beautiful exterior and traditional interior, coupled with the fab ambience inside make this a great place, regardless of time of day/night. Really enjoyable lunchtime visit - friendly welcoming staff - good service. Will definitely be returning as the menu ticks all the boxes for our mix of acquired palettes - nice selection of reasonably priced wines.

Very impressed! After a journey up the M40 and being early for a visit to relatives in Amersham, we called in for coffee around 10.15am. Although the hotel was buzzing with an anniversary function and guests were still finishing their breakfasts, we were served politely and efficiently by the reception and waiting staff. A huge cafeteria of coffee arrived quickly with the minimum of fuss. Very impressed! Would add we stayed at the Kings Arms some two years ago and were equally impressed then !

The management should pay attention! The bar tender, Serena, must have received numerous complaints before, because her behaviour must present a pattern - it was so bad! A rude, inconsiderate and highly irresponsible member of staff. We made a complaint to Alex Williams, who said that the GM would call us the next day. It has been 4 days, and we have not been contacted. There is a cold and intimidating feeling at this hotel.

The Kings Arms is a truly lovely old 16th century building, and was a coaching inn. Original old beams and lovely warm, atmosphere. We went into the pub half of the building. The other being a hotel.Warm welcome from the friendly barman. We ordered fish and chips, which was quickly served from the kitchen in the hotel building.Very disappointing. The batter was greasy, the fish could have been any variety; on the menu it was just written as 'battered fish'. It was not fresh fish. It tasted old, and not even frozen fish tastes that awful. At £14.50 it was not cheap. It came with chips and mushy peas. Such a disappointment to have such a poor meal in such lovely surroundings.

The team were so friendly and it was a one of those quintessential English experiences having a lovely afternoon tea in a building with so much history. Sadly the staff here need training as they ignored customers waiting at the bar while they chatted among themselves. There were dirty glasses sitting about and one customer asked for the bar to be cleaned before his drink was served.

I recently celebrated my 50th birthday with friends and family for a private dinner party, at the king arms hotel. It was a bit last minute but all the staff were amazing and made it a really special evening. The food was excellent, venue perfect and all the staff friendly, helpful and professional. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and feedback on the venue was positive all round. Big thank you kings Arms!

We popped in to this bar and were pleased to find it is dog friendly as we had two dogs with us. It was very quiet and with only two other people in there. However, it was mid to late afternoon and having lost track of time we arrived only five or so minutes or so before they stopped serving. Nevertheless the staff were very amenable to providing lunch and when it arrived it was tasty as well as good value. I think perhaps the young lady behind the bar was very new as she had trouble remembering what we ordered both for drinks and food. That is not a criticism but an observation as she was perfectly courteous and did her best to please. The bar has a lot of character and oozes age with its low ceilings and beams. There was a choice of tables and chairs or sofas, and we opted for the sofa near a lovely open log fire. I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a decent pint of beer and good pub food.

Some friends and I popped in here for lunch and found it very quiet with little atmosphere. The staff were friendly but the service itself slow, it took a long time for our drinks and food to arrive. The food was decent but nothing extraordinary. There are better places in the area to get a pub lunch.

This is one of my locals! There are some great pubs in Amersham, that do great food. I had an American friend over on Sunday before his flight home. So I took him to the Kings arms because it is 1400's which to an American is prehistoric! He wanted fish and chips as he was in England! I was a bit concerned Amersham is not famous for fish and chips and he had just come up from Brighton but he thought it was great, my roast beef sunday lunch was lovely, I wasn't asked how I wanted it so was pleasantly surprised when it arrived medium rare i would say, very nice, lovely staff great ambiance and parking not cheap but this is Amersham!

its a nice building but really poor in service i dont like that the managers tell the staff off instead of teaching them the correct way of doing things and i would also like to add that their seems to be a managing director drinking a glass of red wine while working thats not how to set examples for up and coming staff >:(

The chef is clearly very talented, the food was sublime - and he didn't rely on just his food to leave a good impression, he and the General Manager had the good manners (and good business sense) to make a point of coming to our table and engaging us in a fun conversation for 10-15 minutes after our meal. Very refreshing to meet such a talented young couple who are so passionate about what they are doing. Really hope The Golden Eagle is a huge success for them.

The front of house staff were amazing and friendly, really helped with our needs. Unfortunately the food was a bit disappointing. The food was not very good, not what it was mentioned to be as described on the menu. The food that was cooked properly tasted very good. Atmosphere was ok but the tables were too close together and the chairs and table we were sat at were very high like bar stools and not very good for children. One of us had to wait for a new meal while everyone else ate. The price was high for what we had to eat and no discount was offered or taken of the bill for the food that was sent back.
