This pub was taken over and reopened about a year ago, much to the delight of locals. The new owners have positioned it right at the heart of the local community, getting the business up and running in carefully planned stages. We walked over one sunny morning and enjoyed a delicious coffee and cake in their “Cafe au Lee” (see what they did there?!). My americano was very good and the locally made cake (a choice of about 8) was really yummy. We then popped into the bar to try that too, and had a couple of halves … one beer and one lager, both from the Rebellion brewery at Marlow and both very good. The food offering is limited until they get their kitchen fully up and running, but what they do seems to be very good. They are very supportive of local initiatives and events, and deserve every success. We will definitely be going back. It is fabulous to have such a good independent pub locally once again.

This pub used to be terrible, but the new owner is transforming it. The beer’s excellent and the atmosphere is great. The cafe (Cafe au Lee - gedditt?) has just opened and looks really good too, it’s just doing cakes and coffee at present but there are plans to extend the menu a bit. I’ve spent 20 years avoiding this pub, but now plan to be a regular!

The Cock and Rabbit is now under new ownership and the transformation is phenomenal. It is everything that it wasn’t before. Welcoming, cheerful, friendly staff, it’s spotlessly clean and fresh… The whole building was previously very run down so there is a considerable amount of work still to be done, so do be aware that building works are ongoing. This won’t affect your enjoyment though as the main bars are already refurbished. One large part of the pub is being converted into a coffee shop, and that should be opening within the next few weeks. We had a very brief visit but we will definitely be returning regularly. We both drank Rebellion Beer which was served in peak condition. I understand that there is food available and I spotted a delicious looking Ploughman’s Platter being consumed on a table nearby. We had an absolutely faultless visit and we look forward to seeing, and enjoying, the further development of the Cock and Rabbit. There are extensive gardens which no doubt will be refurbished too, so it will be a great location for drink in the summer. The Cock and Rabbit and the green in front of it has been use as a location for many films and tv programmes, notably Midsomer Murders and Worzel Gummidge.

All three rooms were busy, the big room had families and dogs, and the front room was quieter, with old local regulars! Bar staff are young and freindly. They're going to make a cafe on the side soon. Meantime, you can get some snacks. They're closed Mondays and Tuedays at the moment.

We booked for lunch for our walking group of 16 people. The pub has featured in several episodes of Midsomer Murders as it is such a quaint & quirky place. We were able to order lunch early, before our walk, and the hosts were very helpful and hospitable. The food has a strong Italian influence and there was an extensive menu on blackboards in the restaurant. We were made very welcome and the quality of the food was some of the best I have had for a pub lunch, and I think most of the other walkers would agree. We were pleasantly surprised. The only slight negative was that it could do with a bit of a dust, though it does have a 4/5 Food Hygiene rating.

I was made to feel so special and we were given a lovely room so we could chat and move around without disturbing other diners. The main thing everyone commented on was how amazing the service was. The food was wonderful and everyone got what they wanted and all the food came out together so no-one was sitting and waiting for theirs. On Wednesday evenings, they offer pasta + garlic bread and a glass of wine for £10. If I were nearer, I would definitely come back for that. Very good value. Yes, the decor and oilcloth table cloths may not be to everyone's taste but I liked it and they made us feel very welcome. There is no mobile phone signal but that could be regarded as a plus!

I went to the Cock and Rabbit a very long time ago and did not know that it has been an Italian Restaurant for the last thirty years. My husband an I went for lunch today and were greeted warmly with a delicious glass of beautifully chilled wine and a well kept beer. There was a bowl of olives on the bar which we helped ourselves to. Real olives, not bitter bullets out of a jar of brine Oh joy! The menu was really exciting. We love Italian food so it fitted the bill. Everything was perfectly cooked, the green salad was dressed to perfection and the garlic bread was tasty. The place itself is amazing full of atmosphere, there is a real authentic feel to it. We totally relaxed and felt we had moved into another world. Pasta is very filling and I could not eat all of mine but having assured my host it was nothing to do with the food, I was offered a little package to take home. I also bought some olives. Thank you so much to everyone who served us and made our visit so memorable. We will be back.Averil Wilkinson M.B.E.

I ordered a burger and took one bite. God it was the greasiest most awful thing I have ever had the misfortune to pay money for.I wasn't expecting much, but who can screw up a burger right? The drinks were fine, the food here is just awful.Stop by and enjoy a drink, the area is lovely. The food isn't!

Just went in for a meal. I've never seen such a cool place! Out of the 1930's! Worth going out to look at the building from the car park or the garden! Food mostly Italian, but they have piles of stuff to choose from, and lots of beers! .

This extremely friendly, family, restaurant provides a large menu. It may be best to ask for recommendations on the freshest items, but the food is first class and beautifully cooked. The decor is a little quaint, but provides a relaxed setting. The service is personal and totally relaxed.

Wonderful Italian food in typically olde English surroundings! The friend we took along is aged and physically somewhat disabled - the staff couldn't have been more helpful, tending to her every need. None of us had visited for some months but we were greeted as if we had been there just the previous day. As Guy W mentions in his review, this gem is well known in Midsomer Murders circles and I am sure you will love it - if you can find it!

This pub is definitely an acquired taste. As the reviews show. I was hesitant about taking a group of walkers for Sunday lunch. However, I'm delighted that the whole experience was very positive - from the pre-order before our walk to our departure. Different dishes; different preparations; different tastes. The olives and grissini on our table to welcome us were a thoughtful touch. The quick service (after our walk) was appreciated. And the friendliness of the team (with a tocco italiano) added to the ambience. This is not an English pub serving Sunday roasts. But for those looking for something a little different, the Cock and Rabbit could be a good choice.

My ladyfriend and I popped in one Sunday on a whim, and I must say that I was very impressed by the home-cooked food, the welcome, and the range of real ales.I had Insalata MilleGrazie which was my 5 a day for a whole week, and was garnished with fresh garden herbs -- lovely. She had calves liver and Bruschetta potatoes and pronounced it very tasty, tender and good.It wasn't expensive, the ambience was calming and un-stuffy. A return visit is on the cards!

This is a lovely old Pub, steeped in history and well known in Misomer Murders circles. We called in for a Pasta and a pint, all our friends know we only visit places that take dogs. The main restaurant doesn't allow K9's but we were accommodated in the front bar where - Fudge our springer - held court and was welcomed by a warm fire and gentle customers. The pasta selection covered all our needs and was of generous proportion.A must for all people who like a quiet, convivial evening. We shall return on a Wednesday again.

Dropped in here for Valentines Lunch and was not disappointed. This venue used to be a regular pit stop for us for a drink and a meal but we had not been in the Inn for close on 20 years so we did not know what to expect. We need not have worried the service was as good as previous times and the food delicious washed down by a local ale (Cock and Rabbit) and wine. My wife had calf's liver, I had a pasta dish both were more than ample dishes when plated and although I had soup of the day prior to my main dish I can honestly say one course would suffice. The restaurant was busy but staff coped admirably.

How this pub gets any positive reviews is beyond me. We finished a beautiful walk in a muddy but stunning part of the Chilterns. The pub is situated on the corner of a green in a village so quintessentially English it could be a film set. It was 1.30pm on a Sunday. So why was this place empty when we arrived? Filthy dirty...plastic nursery school tablecloths on every table...false wood paneling on the walls and ceiling...no money spent on the place seemingly since the 1950s...moss and lichen covering every inch of the garden, garden furniture, and out buildings...poorly kept beer... The reasons for the lack of custom became very apparent, very quickly. Impossible to understand how this establishment can be given 4 and 5 star reviews. Incomprehensible disconnect

This place is a famous summer pub garden restaurant with its stunning setting . We had a big family party in the main dining room as opposed to the main bar area and had a ball. The combination of a truly expansive menu together with a miriad of specials on the boards made for a great evening , great sea bass, some fabulous pasta dishes , liver and bacon all well cooked and presented. The real joy of this place are the staff , the hilarious interactions with the charming owner Franco and his wife and the restaurant manager had our whole party in stitches all evening . They know their food and they know their Italian wine . Its not a trendy upscale bistro it is all that is good about going back a few years , real staff that care , great food , stunning setting ....a lot of fun as well, I get bored with the constant refitting and restyling of trendy eateries , this one just makes you feel comfortable and want to have fun ...keep it up !!!

We walked around the Lee and then saw the Cock and Rabbit and decided to stop and have a drink on a Sunday lunch time. What a wonderful surprise to find a genuine Italian restaurant and pub rolled into one. We were given a friendly welcome and as they do pasta and garlic bread and a drink on Wednesdays for £10, we visited the following Wednesday and ate the most delicious pasta meal, garlic bread, with a glass of wine. We hope to return with our walking group on a Monday quite shortly. If you enjoy well cooked Italian food this place is number one!

Used this pub as a walk checkpoint, selected from a map and was blown away by the food - I had the truffle pasta for lunch - I think it's the best pub lunch I've ever had- and I've had a lot! Soon to be seen on "Midsummer murders" (I don't watch it), this is far away from a yuppie bar, but that's irrelevant when the food is sensational and the welcome friendly as was the case here! The sausage bap was also very good - a meal, not a snack with a huge salad.

Being Monday lunchtime, we weren't sure of what lunch menu would be available for us but there was no problem, a full range of dishes were available, especially pasta dishes. The pub staff were extremely friendly and made us very welcome. Offered advise on the food and their own recommendations. The food was very good quality and value for money. As you would have read from other reviews, this is not your usual country pub, the decor is somewhat dated, it is quirky and has been used for TV shows but the lack of any mobile phone signal is also an attraction for those who want a quite meal.Would happily recommend to others to give a try.

This is a recommended lunch stop on the country walk from Chesham to Great Missenden. And what could be nicer than a generous helping of spaghetti in the sunshine surrounded by farm-yard animals and rolling fields. Service was a little slow as they were preparing for a wedding reception, but we weren't in a hurry and this is certainly a place I would revisit.

The pasta was excellent , huge portions that all three of us loved . Bit of a surreal experience as the pub was being prepared for a Midsomer Murders shoot so had temporarily changed it's name , but that added to the fun as landlady chatted to us about this . If you want conventional squeaky clean dull pubs , don't bother . But if you like a bit of character and authentic Italian food give it a try ..

Called in at the Cock & Rabbit hoping to have some lunch, looking at the menu blackboard we noted that the food was mostly Italian. And as this is not to our taste we decided to give the food a miss.So having decided that this was not for us,so we ordered a pot of tea for two & sat down in the front bar. There were two other people in there, and you got the impression that you were with people who were waiting to see some sort of doctor. And then a wasp started to annoy us,so we went & sat outside at the tables that were on the front of the pub. This was fairly pleasant,as the sun was shining & we could sit and admire the horse that was grazing on the green, while the owner of it had several drinks. Then a very pleasant couple arrived driving an Aston Martin DB5(I think I have the correct model),it was very James Bond anyway. It was not until we looked at the previous reviews on Tripadvisor that we saw such very mixed opinions on the Cock & Rabbit.Summing up,seems to be on some sort of route for people with compasses, maps, rucksacks & hefty walking boots. They seem to go in to write things in their notebooks etc,and have a half of shandy & a packet of crisps. It gives me no pleasure in knocking the place, because the lady was very pleasant & polite.Despite reading other comments about dust etc, there seems to be no improvement on our visit, perhaps the Dyson has broken down.?But if you are looking for a place to film a period drama set during the 1950's,this could be just the job.

Picked this place at random to meet friends as it served meals on Mondays. THEN read some of the reviews here. Where were they? We all loved the atmosphere - yes it's cluttered, but that's part of its charm. We loved it, were made very welcome and the food was wonderful. We had such an enjoyable time, we'll certainly be back.

What an amazing place! Go outside, if you can, and look at the building and the colourful birds in the aviary! The pub looks like it was built in the 30's and has so many original features - even the carpet was made for them specially. We liked it so much we had a WW2 night for my 50th! They've got some picturesque function rooms for that, or a veranda room.. It's run by a family, so you get personal, friendly, informal service.. and they are Italian, so you can have real simple Italian food if you like. Go soon, because some day, some big company will buy it up and make it into a them gastro-pub.. Yuk!

Got to be the worst roast dinner I have ever had. £30 for a roast and drink is scandalous. Carrots still had mud on them from when they was plucked last year. Gravy was about as runny as a drought. £4
