The Full Moon in Chiltern

I was last here about 10 years ago. It was excellent then and it still is. I met up with a couple of ex workmates for a relaxed lunch. Moon and chicken burgers were very good. The welcome was very warm and relaxed. A busy place especially in the evening. Large car park and a lovely large beer garden for warmer weather visits.

Beautiful setting, good Sunday menu. I had veg roast, hubby had chicken roast all fresh and delicious. Service was great too 👍

We both had the pie of the day - steak and ale - served with mash and vegetables. Possibly the best we have ever had. All home made / cooked and absolutely delicious. Great selection of beers. Nice sunny garden but ample space inside. Even a dog free zone inside. Staff lovely too. Highly recommend.

The staff were fantastic! Friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the food and the local area. The food was very good. We had the Chicken and Leek Pie special which was very good and was a ‘true pie’ with pastry top and bottom. Desserts too were delicious. Most of all we appreciated the relaxed atmosphere, very welcoming and pleasant staff, and the pub is dog-friendly too!

No online reservations so tried to get through by phone to make a booking four times - choosing quieter times like 12 Noon or 3 pm but no answer. Left a voicemail - no response. Sent an email - no response. 30 mins away so not going to turn up on spec but if you want people to come then answer the phone or respond to messages.

Turned up on an early Saturday evening, easily got a nice table in the garden (outside tables are first come first served). Beautiful setting with windmill in background. Ample sized beer garden, child and dog friendly. Food served all day on a Saturday. Reasonably priced, plenty of choice (even for non meat eaters) and menu has a bit of imagination. Staff were lovely. Would come again without a doubt.

Lovely spot in a quiet village. Excellent customer service, the staff were quick to greet us and we're exceptional. As for food we ordered the pork chop which was humungous! Brisket was nice too!

Nice venue, good food, we were there with our young children and they treated us really well. The landlady even got her grandchildren’s toys out so my toddler could play with them.

I visited with my wife, my son and my son's partner for Sunday lunch. My wife and son had the roast. I had salmon and my son's partner had a vegetarian option. When we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff who were very efficient and brought our drinks orders promptly. Our waitress took the food order very efficiently and we received our lunch in good time. However,it was very average. Quite well cooked but nothing special. I also felt somewhat cramped because they had placed too many tables in too small a place. At times I could hear the conversation of others better than that of my family. We had various desserts but no coffee. Everything was ok but the biggest shock came with the bill. I'm not a stingy person and am more than happy to pay a fair price for a fair meal but this food simply was not worth what we were charged. The bill came to £117 not including a tip. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon !!! .

Went back to the Full Moon to see what Friday nights were like. We both had fish from the specials menu. The halibut was delicious with skinny fries, after the cocktail pork sausages in mustard as a snack starter. The food was excellent, lovely warm pub with a great atmosphere. The Malbec went very well with our food and we are definitely going back. Great pub to visit on a Friday night after a tough week at work.

Had a fantastic lunch at The Full Moon at - Hawridge this afternoon. Food was incredible, staff are friendly, always greeted with a smile and nothing is too much trouble. We didn’t book a table but managed to get one by the fire. Highly recommend. 10/10

Stopped off on a Sunday afternoon just for drinks. Firstly, drinks are really expensive. Secondly, nobody working there smiled or said please or thank you. Blimey, what a miserable bunch. I'll go to St Leonards next time.

Had a wonderful lunch on Mother’s Day. Mouthwatering, rare, roast beer. Vegetables perfectly cooked. Followed by a delicious dessert of apple & plum crumble - a perfect balance of sweetness & tartness. The service was ‘just so’: meaning perfect! Difficult to define & harder to achieve. But you just know when it is right! Well done!

Such an average roast dinner and the pork a tad over cooked too, which seems to be a common theme on their TA reviews. We weren’t asked how I food was at payment and we weren’t asked during the meal either, shame as they could have not only have gotten another round of drinks out of us, but some genuine feedback too.

We booked lunch for Mother’s Day. We arrived 30 mins early for our table, and our guests had not arrived. We would have enjoyed a drink at the bar, with nice fire and free seats, but were told we had to go straight to our table. We sat in an empty room for 30 mins feeling that we were missing the ambience. (2 hour drive)When our guests arrived we felt rushed to order rather than greet our guests, which included my 92 year old mother. Food was ok, service was rushed and unfriendly.

You tend to go out for a Sunday roast because it’s easier and yummier than one you cook at home. However, this wasn’t the case sadly this time. The pork was incredibly dry, the beef was chewy, the gravy was watery and the vibe just wasn’t it. It felt incredibly cheap and basic, considering you are paying upwards of £20 for a roast beef dinner (no wonder they keep the roast dinner prices off their website!) Table of 8 and I don’t think any of us will be returning - there’s a lot better for your money (and tastebuds) elsewhere.

We went here for a French themed night, Food was fantastic, the lobster 🦞 Thermidor was better than the one I had recently at Scott’s in London, the beef just fell apart and was full of flavour, and the butter scotch soufflé was the best desert I’ve ever eaten! Great atmosphere with an accordion 🪗 player too. We’ll book again for the Italian night. More of these French nights please, I wanted everything that was on the menu! The food here is always good but tonight it was exceptional. Great service too from the welcoming and friendly staff. One of the best country pubs in the UK!

Warmed up in front of the open fire after a chilly walk. Good coffee and bacon rolls for breakfast, and a friendly welcome from the bar staff.

Went to the Full Moon for Sunday lunch. The rare roast beef was amazing and lots of it, crispy roast potatoes with a large selection of vegetables on the plate. The pub was warm and cosy with a beautiful log fire and the staff couldn’t do enough. If you like red wine try the Malbec which was a good quality, and you can’t say no to the puddings, sticky toffee pudding yum yum, we will definitely be going back.

The pub exudes a regrettable atmosphere due to an unwelcoming manager. Customer service suffers as the manager appears disinterested and overwhelmed, leaving a negative impression. Despite a pleasant group, the pub fails to create a hospitable environment, making it an uninviting choice for those seeking a warm and friendly experience.
