Since the new chef arrived, I've eaten here 3 times and its never a disappointment. Amazing food with lovely staff in a lovely cosey country pub The crown offers a lovely Italian menu along with some traditional pub dishes too. The special board always has a soup of the day that sounds mouth watering. I highly recommend the Chicken Parmigiano. Absolutely delicious!!!!

Past experiences have always been good Sadly a visit on 20/08/20 not so Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances no fish on menu but Staff very friendly & Virus safety very good and it started off well as a mixture of starters all lived up to expectations When mains arrived a different story Child’s portion of chicken goujon very substantial but sadly very dry and hard for her to cut The languine was crispy and again the chickenwas dry The salad with chicken & bacon was served without dressing and the chicken breast came in 1 piece as did the rasher of bacon not cubed as expected and as before the meat was dry Finally the chilli was also dry but being minced not too bad and did at least come with dressing Our comments were passed on to the server when the table was cleared and despite lingering finishing drinks and settling up no one came from management or kitchen to investigate further Sadly this visit to the Crown will be our last for the foreseeable future

Starting with the good, the service was pleasant, nice friendly members of staff. The food came quickly but it went down hill from there. I order the roast chicken and to my shock it was a dry chicken breast which was served with aunt Bessies roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding! The veg was okay once added a little seasoning. Gravy was lovely. Also had the trio of roast which I can say all the meats we served well done/over cooked.

We visited early Saturday afternoon on 15/02. I ordered a BLT sandwich (£7.00) and my partner ordered a chilli jacket potato (£8.00). For drinks I ordered a flat white coffee and my partner had a hot chocolate with cream. When I went up to order, the bar lady asked did I want chips with my sandwich to which I replied no thank you. She replied with 'it comes with either sweet potato fries or halloumi fries' - I took this as it came with these as part of the price, I therefore chose the sweet potato fries. The bill came to £26.50 which was very pricey for the choices we had. When I got back to the table I checked the prices - I had been charged for the sweet potato fries - £4.00! Very cheeky. Our food came quite quickly - I was surprised to have chicken in my sandwich as well as bacon, lettuce and tomato! I had around 15 sweet potato fries presented in a small wired mesh pot, no way are these worth £4.00! Our drinks came from a drink machine behind the bar - these worked out at £3.50 each. We are talking about a coffee from a machine here which came without milk, it was not delivered to our table - we had to go up to the bar to get the drinks - a complete rip off. The hot chocolate was not worth this price either - they were very basic drinks - nothing special about them. To charge that amount I would expect someone to deliver to the table and maybe with a small biscuit. Regarding the sandwich that cost £7.00 - this should come with a side salad and crisps to garnish or chips. Overall the food was tasty, we did clean our plates however I will not return unless the pricing is reviewed, the service could be better aswell considering they were very quiet. It looked like the owners were sat at the bar having a drink and the bar lady was also having one on her shift!

We have always visited The Crown for its lovely location and ambience but most importantly for the absolutely delicious food, particularly the homemade burgers and onion rings, which are huge and really well made. Visited today (driving over 60 miles for the privilege) to find the menu has been 'updated'. The only food on offer now is a baguette, sandwich, jacket potato and a couple of other dishes, like fish and chips. We asked the barman what had happened and he responded that there is a new head chef. This is not the sort of food which requires a 'head chef' to prepare! It's also worth noting that there is next to nothing for a vegetarian to eat and that half of the menu is fish...no exaggeration. There is also no children's menu any longer. We promptly left the pub and went next door to The Swan pub where the menu is much more substantial, although not as tasty as the food at The Crown used to be. I'd like to suggest to the management that if the menu needed to be slimmed down for whatever reason, they need to consider the variety of choice that is actually available. Really, really disappointing and we will not be visiting again.

I was at the Ley Hill beer festival at the weekend. As a non-drinker, its a festival I have always found to have a great and friendly atmosphere with the Swan and the Crown pulling together to host a great weekend. The feeling was somewhat soured this year by the Crown pub bolting their doors and shutting off all outside lighting while there were about 150 people still outside enjoying the bank holiday Sunday. I appreciate there may not have been a late license applied for this year but the 'kick-out time' this weekend of 10:30pm is earlier than last orders have been on a standard Sunday where just the pub quiz takes place!! I hope the owners learn from this for next year. It would be a shame for the Ley Hill beer festival to change feeling as it's such a successful and popular event in the local area. I also want to comment on the food which I think has gone down hill at the festival this year. The chips were soggy and the curry was like a school dinner - that said, it was priced accordingly. I would have been happy to pay a bit more for better quality. Thanks,

We visited the Crown on the 8th April 2019.Overall the food was very nice. However, one of our party asked if the egg from her meal could be put onto the plate of another member of the party. No problem... Until the eggs arrived. It appears that the eggs are served in a kind of mini skillet. We were presented with a skillet containing three rock hard fried eggs and a broken egg. I said to the waitress that I was singularly unimpressed but she wasn't bothered even when I told her that this was worthy of a negative review. If she did bother to tell the management, they were equally unconcerned. All in all a great shame as the rest of the food was very nice. Perhaps if we had been locals we would have had a different experience but I wouldn't go back nor recommend the establishment to friends. See photo of the "acceptable" eggs.

This used to be a well managed pub and I hope my experience today is a blip but today thie experience at this pub is a great example why poor management is causing the demise of the pub trade. There was a catalogue of problems today but the most worrying was the attitude of Rob Hoy who’s response to constructive feedback was similar to what I would expect had I insulted someone’s mother! A pub should be able to serve a decent drink - San Miguel was off and even the only other lager available was not right. Soda and Lime should be easy - wrong - a pint of green soda with no lime taste at all. Under the previous management this was an exceptional pub - its all about the people.

Dilemma? Walk into the pretty hanging basket festooned Swan or go next door to the less chocolate boxy Crown. Can't comment on The Swan as we didn't venture in, but The Crown is a good old pub. Located in an open area with the sound of leather on willow across the road, there's seating for those sunny days outside on the green and inside, an unfussy pubby patinaed interior. A good range of beers and a nice cloudy cider, plus a good concise menu of tasty, slightly different from the norm, food. Gets busy, so best to book. Made very welcome by friendly people as a large family group.

My partner and I have visited the crown a few times for just drinks, and really liked the atmosphere and look of the pub, it’s a great stop off or destination for a walk. However we went for dinner recently and were very disappointed. I had a crown burger, which came with loads of thick slices of cucumber inside it, which was frankly odd and really did not go. The meat didn’t taste fresh, almost as if it had been cooked from frozen and the bacon inside wasn’t crispy. The chips that came with it, were more like roast potatoes, huge cut wedges with skin on. My husband had the skirt steak that came with overcooked kale. The steak also tasted like it had been cooked from frozen, with a distinct blood taste. It’s such a lovely little pub and staff friendly, it’s such a shame the food lets it down.

We sat outside with a cool glass of something of our choosing and soon came lunch. I chose a 'sandwich' with a portion of chips on the side. 'Sandwich' doesn't do it justice. It was a glorious vegetarian feast between a very generous fresh brown bun. 'Chips' doesn't accurately describe the hand cut chunky golden crispy outside, soft inner, fries either. Then for our delectation home made ice cream. Others chose chicken pie, mash and seasonal veg, or duck, seafood pasta, to name a few. The Swan, which does very good food, was closed so we went to try The Crown next door. The décor was very nice cosy modern but it was rather cold, my friend kept her coat on.You get a nice welcome from the lady at the bar.We both had haddock and chips and the fish was lovely - moist and flaky with a lovely crunchy batter. The chips were very good, too, until you got to the hard ones that were more like crisps and they were 50% of the portion. The little salad on the side of the plate was fresh and nicely dressed. Personally, I have had enough of spinach in salad as I don't like the texture. All the food arrived pretty promptly. When the lady from the bar came to clear the plates she asked how the meal was and I said a lot of the chips were too hard and crunchy; she didn't handle it well but bridled and said that's how homemade chips come out and apologised in a way that wasn't an apology at all.I then had a dessert: apple and cinnamon cake with vanilla ice cream. My friend didn't think they would be good and just had coffee - which was very good.My dessert wasn't good. Very heavy cake that was kept in the fridge and then partially warmed so it was claggy with cold spots. The vanilla ice cream was good quality. This didn't seem to be a chef who really didn't care as everything was very nicely presented but a couple of things need sorting. And the barmaid's unprofessional sourness wasn't his fault, presumably. She was fine apart from the way she handled a complaint. My friend would never go back but I might try it again, there were enough good points to make it worth another go. I think.

Although the snack options were a bit limited we both enjoyed the asparagus, bacon & poached egg on toast. Very savoury.Good choice of beers and the Timothy Taylors was well kept. There was a warm welcome and they were happy to let my wife try their ciders before ordering.Food service was prompt and meals were well presented. We will be back

Excellent food and drinks in lovely village surroundings. Duck in plum sauce and a French-style tart outdoors in the shade of the trees were a real and rare treat. The Crown was a bit of a find: it is worth testing your navigations skills to find this gem.

The Crown has evolved to become a genuine hub in the village and is a tribute to Aidan and all the guys who have made it what is with hard work, enthusiasm and an ability to give people what they want. This is an unusual place as it is a great boozer, a good place to eat, great for families and all aspects and types happily and willingly coexist. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have such a great place so close to home and would give it 6 stars if they were available!!

Friday night is traditional Irish music... Something we'd missed in Ireland ironically but lovely to witness. Live, unscripted and off the cuff. A warm cosy local pub, tucked away in a cute wee village... This is a great spot for a low key Friday drink. Plenty of outdoor seating, full menu, multiple indoor seating areas.

We called in for lunch having found The Swan next door closed. Sadly in our view the reviews recently did not reflect our experience. My chicken liver pate was basic and I thought I would be safe. The chutney with it was obviously bought in and not very pleasant . My daughter in laws duck was over cooked and leathery, and my sons scotch egg uninspiring, while his trout salad still had a large none in it and was spoiled by being overloaded with 'onion jam' ! I know they were redecorating, but the window sills inside were dirty and generally uncared for. Sorry to be so negative but think the motto here should be ' must try harder'

I've been visiting The Crown regularly over the last 6 months or so and have enjoyed every single trip The food is amazing, the beer well kept, the staff are welcoming and the surroundings are perfect. Watch out for their monthly Irish night for some excellent laid back music. What's not to like?I am very pleased to have a pub as good as this one as my 'local'.

Love coming to this place as it's not just a pub but a welcoming one at that. You'll be automatically greeted by the lovely friendly bar staff who always have a smile on their face, ready for a chat. The food is divine and the menu keeps changing so nice variety. My favourite.. camerbert sharing board! It smells amazing and is the one dish that I would never say no to. Fancy a wine or beer? Great selection on offer and the staff are always on hand with great knowledge to help pick out your favourite. Overall, great experience.

It's not twee and quaint, no beams, but it's all about being comfortable and relaxed in friendly surroundings. There is another dining room at the rear but I like eating in the spacious main bar, by the fire when it's cold, and outside overlooking the green when it's sunny. 'The beer is good' (apparently) and a pint of lager and a bucket of hand cut chips with the skin on and aioli is my idea of summer (and winter) heaven. Of course they do proper meals too, catering for a wide range of budgets and tastes, including roast dinners and gastro food as well as burgers, sandwiches, sharing plates, lighter bites and veggie options, children's menu, a daily specials board (and those buckets of chips!). And they seem to serve all day! No 'sorry madam, we stopped serving at 2' here. I've even been in, on quiet days in winter, and stayed there ages as they have wifi, too. We had a lovely late lunch a couple of weeks ago: We shared calamari to start, which was beautifully cooked, then I had smoked haddock and a perfectly poached egg, the meal customised to my request. Hubby had a steak, which wasn't cooked how he ordered; it was changed without question, cooked just right and he pronounced it 'delicious'. This place has always been a favourite. Sorry I've not said so until now.

The first thing you need to know is that The Crown is not a sanitised, anonymous, chain outlet. This is a real pub in the old style where you may find yourself eating in the bar, or in a dedicated room behind the bar. It is in no way 'designer' smart, but it is spotless, welcoming (to families and dogs) and just what a pub should be. The food was absolutely delicious. Guaranteed not to have arrived in the kitchen as pre-prepared packs. From starters to desserts, this was real 'home' cooking and faultless.Only one small nit-pick. My soup, served with a piping hot roll and slab of butter, arrived with a spoon and fork. Not sure what I was supposed to do with the fork!

We visited on a Friday night in March and enjoyed a lovely meal in the bar area. The staff were friendly, the food very tasty, and the atmosphere good. It was very busy and a little noisy at times.. The sign of a popular pub. Booking ahead for the restaurant would probably make for a quieter experience during peak times. Parking is freely available on the road just outside. We will definitely be back.

We will always try to visit The Crown if we are passing by Ley Hill, which is one of our favourite locations in the area. Always a very friendly welcome with good quality reasonably priced food. This time we had sharing Camembert to start, with fish & chips, pasta and a Crown burger for mains, all good grub! Would highly recommend The Crown without hesitation, always seems to be lots happening in Ley Hill, so plenty of excuses to visit!

Right next door to The Swan; a bit more 'pubby' and less 'restauranty' than that establishment, which is one of our favoured dinning pubs.Four real ales, including a local one from the excellent Red Squirrel Brewery. Couple of 'craft' kegs too.Weren't looking for a full-blown dinner on this visit to Ley Hill, but more a light supper. Portions were very good, so one whole baked camembert (very nice), plus a couple of brilliant apple crumbles, between the two of us was enough.Landlord friendly and exuding positivity.Likable pub.

Went for family meal last night, despite the lovely atmosphere and helpful staff, I came away with more than I asked for!Up all night with sickness and all the symptoms of food poisoning.I had the prawn and squid risotto, and to be honest the squid did taste unusual, I guess this is why!Such a shame that such a lovely place doesn't have up to scratch food hygiene standards to cause such a painful problem!

I ate here with a group of friends from a set menu. My beef and ale pie with mash was extremely good, but why so few vegetables? Veggies are cheap and good for you, but 2 small beans were inadequate. I also had the Eton Mess for dessert, but a mess it was not. It had all the constituents; strawberries, meringue and cream, but the strawbs were only cut in half and the meringue was in pieces. It was tasty, but for best effect it should have all been mixed in together. Nitpicking maybe, but I have had and enjoyed Eton Mess far better many times before. Having said that, it was an enjoyable evening.

Came across this pub whilst on route to another pub... Looked very inviting on a summers evening. Wasn't disappointed. Brilliant food, the sharing platter was fit for a king and the burger and chips a sight for sore eyes.. Extremely friendly pleasant and welcoming staff and I loved the fact it was full of locals and their four legged friends. I would be proud to say this was my local, but as I was on a business trip It's rather a long haul to get to but if ever back in the area I would make sure I made another visit. 10/10 for everything...

OK, so it was a Monday, and it was not a particularly bright Midsummer's Day (!), but returning from Chesham we happened across this impossibly delightful English country located inn situated across the road from a cricket pitch. With an attitude that seemed to convey that nothing was any trouble at all, we soon were eating freshly prepared dishes that were of the highest order - if somewhat over-seasoned. Home made ice-cream seems to be a nice feature in these summer months. Cask ales offered as well as wines and other hot beverages (great coffee!). There is outside eating on picnic style benches on the green. The couple who came in after us ordered different dishes which also appeared to be well-prepared and were eaten with appreciation. About £40 for two with a glass of wine + charming service.
