Walked in at around 11PM, as we entered we were kindly greeted by all of the staff. We then placed our orders and the options of salads/sauces that are free of charge is great. I ordered the lamb shish and rice box, was extremely great. Tender meat, great flavours from the grill, perfectly cooked rice and great fresh salad on the side. They were very helpful when we told them we had a train to catch, and ensured we got our food quickly. They were even kind enough to give one of my friends (who did not order any food) a free burger and chips meal on the house, which was the highlight of our visit there. Great people, clean place, overall amazing. Would definitely recommend!!

Pub is having work done to it and will be closing soon .Maybe when open can get some staff that serve instead of being outside smoking all the time and talking to customers while people Are waiting to be served .Pint was nice and people in the pub are to but staff are awful

One of the best pubs in Southwick. What people call a 'proper old fashioned pub'. Small and cosy with an olde world nautical theme. No gaming machines but beautiful coal fires, friendly customers and superb real ales, beers etc at extremely low prices, served by excellent bar staff and Landlord and Lady! 10 out of 10 all round. See you there, perhaps - guaranteed a warm welcome by us olde locals. 🍻😁🍻😁

Nice coffee, but food was terrible. Had the full English and it was inedible as everything tasted like it had been deep fried to death. Couldn't eat anything other than the toast. My partner and son had the egg and salmon on a muffin, but had to leave all the salmon as it was really poor quality. Not a good experience I'm afraid. The cakes looked nice and so if i was you I would stick to drinks and cakes only.

I have been coming to this pub for the last 25 years primarily for the quiz night but also for food and drinks. To say that the pub has gone downhill is an understatement. Tonight I came to the quiz. It was very cold in the part of the pub where the quiz was held. There was no heating on. We usually have a snack of chips and sandwiches provided as part of the evening. We had sandwiches but the chips were absent as the frier had not been put on. Very disappointing, as I don't eat the sandwiches generally. The bar staff were notable by their absence at lot of the time. The quiz master had mentioned a charity that was being raised for and we were going to give our winnings towards it. However towards the end of the quiz the young male barman came in and took it and announced very loudly "They don't want to do anything for charity" We felt that was very rude. The quiz itself was (as usual) very good and most enjoyable. As a team and many of the other quizzers we feel that we are somewhat of an inconveniece for the bar staff. As we were leaving the male bar person was loaading the dishwasher behind the bar and my friend and I mentioned to him that it takes along time to build a good reputation but only one bad experience to ruin it. His response was "okay" to every point we made not even looking at us. This whole evening made me feel that we were not welcome and were not the demographic that the pub is after. If it were not for the quizmasters I would think twice about returning. This makes me very sad as I considered the Gardeners to be my "local"

We expect such good things from M&S. But what a let down on this visit. No plates at the Scone/Cake table. A half hour wait for anything from the kitchen. We opted for sandwiches which were fine. Usual M&S standard. But the guy on the till was just a little bit offhand and didn't offer a plate for the scone or any butter which was nowhere to be found. I don't know - just an off day perhaps. But for £17 this should have been a much better experience!! And at one stage he piled up a whole bunch of wrapped food items in his hands holding them still with his neck and chin and marched off to the kitchen saying he'd be back. That's a No No when you work in a cafe. I know!
