Came for a family roast dinner around 3pm. Service quite slow. One person ordered lamb roast, whereas a beef roast came out. The waiter essentially hung around with the beef waiting for us to just accept the beef. My sons childrens chicken roast was substituted with beef without our consultation and we were just presented with it. Sides ordered never came despite requesting them 3-4 times. Childrens ice cream came out as an ice cream soup

The Single Worst Restaurant Experience of My Life: Buckle Up. It all began innocently enough at 4 p.m., a Sunday roast to celebrate two milestones, my mum’s birthday and my sister’s wedding anniversary. Six adults, four kids, all ready for a feast at The Cricketers on the Green. What could go wrong? Oh, everything. Everything could go wrong. We arrived promptly at 4 p.m. only to be told that our table wasn’t ready. A small red flag, sure, but we were given a bottle of rosé to smooth things over. Rosé at 4 p.m.? Not the worst start, though that red flag was starting to flutter ever so slightly. Fast forward 45 minutes, and finally, a table was ready. We ordered with a sense of hope and settled in, anticipating a nice meal. And after just 30 minutes, a couple of starters arrived—along with two kids’ meals. So far, so decent. (Spoiler alert: this was the last glimpse of food we’d see for the remainder of our ill-fated evening. Two kids? No food. Adults? Not even a crumb.) Then came the first of many disappointments: no roast beef available. Annoying, but fine, we made alternate choices. Little did we know, this would be the last bit of communication we’d receive for a long, long time. Another hour passed. Any inquiries about the whereabouts of our food were met with the infuriatingly vague “just 10 minutes away.” Meanwhile, we watched diners who arrived after us gleefully receive their meals including, I kid you not, the roast beef we were told didn’t exist. By now, two hours had crawled by, and we were well into the “if someone doesn’t feed me soon, I might gnaw on the furniture” phase. Not a slice of bread, not an olive, nothing to ward off the gnawing hunger. All we got were more empty promises of “10 more minutes,” which by now tasted more bitter than anything the kitchen could’ve conjured up. At the 2-hour-and-45-minute mark (yes, I was counting), the kids were on the verge of a full-blown revolt. Still no food. After confronting management about how we’d been lied to for over an hour and a half, they finally dropped the bombshell: “We don’t know when your dinner will be ready. In fact, we’re not even sure if it will be ready.” Yes, you read that right. The one thing a restaurant is meant to do *serve food* they couldn’t even guarantee. Apparently, the kitchen was operating in some Bermuda Triangle of communication. They tried blaming a staff member who hadn’t shown up, but having worked in hospitality myself, I know you don’t just stop feeding people because someone no-shows. You adjust! You downsize the service, you turn new customers away - you don’t keep a party hanging around for hours on a special occasion while lying through your teeth. Three hours in, with no sign of food and the pretense long abandoned, we left. Starving, frustrated, and with our evening thoroughly ruined. On our way out, we encountered a woman whose night had also been wrecked. Her kids were served raw food, and she’d left without paying because, apparently, free dinner doesn’t feel like much of a win when it’s inedible and the night is already a disaster. We ended the night scavenging through the fridge at home because by then, the supermarkets were closed, and the kids were exhausted. In all my years, I’ve never left a pub after three hours without being served dinner. Why they weren’t turning away customers or cancelling bookings to focus on those they already had is beyond me. Communication, common sense and apparently main courses are sorely lacking at this establishment. Consider this my first-ever bad review. Avoid The Cricketers on the Green. We weren’t the first to have a night ruined here, and with their attitude, we definitely won’t be the last. AVOID!

Despite booking a table in advance, we were made to wait half an hour to be given a table with terrible atmosphere. All i heard from other customers while we were waiting was how terrible the service was. Makes you wonder what the point of booking is if it doesn't garuntee you a table for when you want it?

Came here with a friend for lunch before heading to the theatre. We were seated quickly and as, I had mentioned it was my friends birthday on the online booking form, were given a drink on the house which was a nice touch. The staff were exceptionally friendly, especially our server, Kaiias, who came back every so often to check on us. There was a good choice of food and drinks and our meal was hot and delicious. It appears to be a very popular pub and I can see why. Would we return. Definitely!

Having regularly eaten at this pub in addition to booking the upstairs function room for several events and been a general customer for 25 years I was embarrassed and extremely upset by the treatment from the staff and management today when I brought two friends for Sunday lunch (who had both travelled a considerable distance to be there). We were informed that the house white wine was 'vinegar' so we therefore ordered a more expensive bottle, the food was substandard compared to previous meals (plus burnt and needed to be returned) and were made to be feel embarrassed, for example, when milk needed to be ordered separately for a cup of tea. The whole visit was uncomfortable and was made worse by an aggressive customer who repeatedly bumped one of our chairs and became aggressive when questioned regarding this. He was not addressed re his threatening behaviour as his response by the manager and although the service charge and food was deducted from our bill we agreed to pay for our drinks (a regret in hindsight) as we wanted to leave the unpleasant atmosphere immediately. I will certainly never return to this place and am personally saddened by the whole afternoon's experience.

Outstanding. Our party of 10 were catered for wonderfully well by what felt like the whole staff team. Service was swift, done with a smile and accommodated our every requirement. Interaction from the staff made us feel like genuinely valued customers during a busy Sunday lunchtime at this popular venue. The food was superb and cooked to perfection. A really nice touch was taking the children's orders first and starting to prepare those, then coming back to take the adults' orders, so the children weren't waiting as long for their food. Prices were fair, especially given the excellent quality of the food. We spent a good couple of hours there enjoying the food, drink and atmosphere. Far from being our first visit to The Cricketers, the experience today has certainly fuelledour desire to get bacl there as soon as possible.

Specifically booked to try their Sunday Roast as saw positive reviews online. I had the beef roast while my partner decided to go for the fish and chips last minute. The roast was really disappointing. It didn't come hot, meat was hard to chew, roast potatoes had lost their crispiness, yorkshire pudding had no flavour at all, gravy was really runny and tasted watered down.. it all lacked seasoning unfortunately. Priced at £19 was really expecting more. Fish and chips were okay but nothing memorable but the mushy peas were not good (almost sauce consistency). The service was friendly but took a while to get their attention when we were ready to order. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place to go for food but it would be an alright place to meet up with friends for drinks.

I booked the cricketers for myself, my partner and my Nan for Sunday lunch. I am gluten and dairy intolerant, as well as pescetarian... which makes me a nightmare to cater for. I was impressed they had an allergen menu online and when we arrived the waitress let me know what I would be able to eat. I was unable to have the vegan roast because of the gluten in the wellington so asked if I could have the vegan roast with the sea bass from another main meal, after enquiring with the kitchen she confirmed this wouldn't be a problem. The food was delicious and the waitress didn't once make me feel like I was being a pain (although I know I am!). We had a great Sunday lunch in the sunshine.

The second time I took someone recently here for a lunch and it's the second time I've not enjoyed the food. First time my friend and I had the scotch egg which we both found too rich.I put that down to just not our preference. Second time I had the fishfinger roll. There wasn't much fish. It was all batter and I thought the roll was meant to be a Brioche roll (I've tried to find the lunch menu online to check this but can't) instead I was given what seemed like a heavy sourdough roll. My friend had the club sandwich and said that where the bread had been put on the grill it tasted burnt. Perhaps I should have said something at the time but I didn't want it to spoil the afternoon out. The pub itself is in a lovely location and the courtyard and Yurt are really nice and well thought out. The staff have always been very pleasant. However for my next lunch date I'm going to have to find a new location.

I can personally recommend the rump of beef which came as a generous portion, perfectly cooked, with complimentary extra roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Absolutely delicious! It's a lovely pub, always buzzing when I've been with guests but never heaving to the point of the service getting backed up. Our server, Tyler, was wonderful; attentive, friendly and jocular in a charming way. Memorable, excellent service. Thank you! A few weeks ago my husband and I had enjoyed a brunch on a sunny Saturday morning. We'd enjoyed the food, so thought we'd book for the evening. I booked for 4 people and we all came away disappointed. Firstly, the location, bar area and restaurant areas are inviting. There seems to be plenty of staff but no leadership, especially at the bar. The best thing about our meals were the staters, the Scotch egg, the pasta and the scallops were all good. The main courses were uninspiring and all were tepid. I had Thai chilli pork which was just pork mince with rice and not very pleasant. My husband and one of our friends had the Pork & ‘nduja mafalde pasta, which had no anchovy crumb. Our other friend had the salmon and prawn fishcake which was nothing special. I have to say we all really struggled to find something on the Spring menu which really grabbed us. We also had to ask three times for tap water but when we ordered a second bottle of wine the service was more efficient! We all really wanted to like this place.

The service was fine, they made a big song and dance about us moving table when we were in a nearly empty room though. Sunday roast was ok, came out suspiciously quickly and had clearly been sat under a heat lamp for a while. Also please ask the chef to peel the single carrot on the plate, I know you can eat the peel, but it was a bit gross, especially presentation wise. Overall the pub was a bit of a dump. It was sticky and the toilets were gross and didn’t have locks on one of the doors. Not helped by a family of screaming children by us who were throwing chips around as if it was McDonalds. I was honestly a bit embarrassed infront of my party that I’d booked it, as it looked like it would be nice online! I would of expected this pub to be of a higher standard considering it’s position. It was fine, but we won’t be coming back.

This was my first time here, although other family members had visited and said it was nice. The venue is well fitted out and very modern mixed with the traditional parts of the old building, which I think gives the place real charm and character. We attended for a Sunday roast, and the service when we arrived seemed very polite and efficient and we were shown to our table swiftly. Seated and our drinks order taken almost straight away, which I liked, whilst we then purused the menu. Sadly the service took a bit of a bad turn for us on this occasion, plate handed to one of us, burning hot with no warning at all! Then another plate given to the wrong person, so they started cutting up and then had to hand it to some else at the table. One of the dishes had cold meat on the Sunday roast, and when I say cold, fridge cold! All the food took some time to arrive at the table, as only one person bringing food for 6 to our table! When we mentioned it to our waiter, he asked if we would like the manager, and whilst turning and walking away uttered “because I don’t want to deal with this”! Absolutely shocking to hear that when we were all still being polite and understanding, but at a loss as to why things seemed so much trouble to them. The manager did arrive, sorted out the cold meat and delivered fresh vegetables, but I wouldn’t say it was over and above if I’m honest. The whole experience felt pretty tainted from the service level point of view, which was a shame as the place has really nice decor and the food we did end up eating was tasty. It just goes to show, that one moment of service failure or a few mistakes here and there, can really have an impact on the dining experience. I think the management should’ve considered a more significant gesture when it came to the bill, as 2x free veg didn’t really leave me feeling compensated considering the overall disappointing experience we had. To sum up, I’m not sure if I will return here, but I wouldn’t say avoid by any means, just maybe manage your expectations from a service level point of view.

Visited for a late lunch yesterday. 1. On the website when I booked the table it gave us 1hr 45mins time for our booking. I’m not sure how but for 2 people in what seemed like an empty pub it took 2hrs for 3 courses, don’t want to think how long it would’ve been if it was busier. I wouldn’t have minded but I stupidly didn’t check the bill and got charged the “optional” service charge. In my opinion optional means you have a choice to select yes or no. 2. If you’re going to have an item on the menu include it in the meal. Supposedly the Sticky toffee puddings came with brandy snaps but ours did not. Have been here before for Sunday lunch and it was really good so thought I’d give it a go, probably won’t be going again.

We came for afternoon tea today for our mum's birthday and left rather disappointed. It took a while for all the food to come out (sandwiches came one plate at a time five-fifteen minutes apart) and then we could hear the staff shouting to each other about if we needed another plate of sandwiches (we did). One waitress said they have loads on their table they dont need more and a waiter came over and stared at our table then shouted back at them yes they have lots of plates already, which i think was quite rude to be so loudly talking about our table in such a quiet part of the pub and also incorrect. After a while they realised we did need more sandwiches and they finally brought out the final plate but we had already started on our sweet things as we assumed they were not coming, i think for the price it was poor service for them to come so far apart and for the service to be so disorganised and no communication with us with how long it would take for everything to come out. The sandwiches were not great, the beef was chewy and the tomato & avocado ones were not seasoned at all and soggy. We also had to ask for jam for the scones. Two of our party of six had hot chocolates instead of tea and the waitress apparently double checked that they were included but after we had driven home we realised we had been charged for them. We also had asked for house prosecco but on the website it says it is £28.50 but we were charged £35.50. We should have double checked the receipt to query all of this and removed the service charge as we felt quite uncomfortable in the end but we were in a rush to leave as our Mum was quite disappointed and it was her birthday. Overall we do not think it was worth it for the price that we paid.

Lovely first floor dining room, with views over Richmond Green. Really friendly, helpful and quick service. Food was OK, we had roast dinners with a decent amount of meat and gravy, but the potatoes could have been much hotter and the roast carrots cooked for 20 mins longer. The women's toilets are in a really bad state, in fact it's a good idea to use the ones in the next pub along.

Great food, good wine, mediocre to poor deserts. Service was good but food slow to come (+80 min for main course (we did not have starters) - kitchen probably not suited for seating). One of the few decent places to dine relatively near Farnham.

What all quintessential British country pubs should aspire to achieve. Sensational from our first greeting, the service, food, decor and ambience. We loved every second, and we didn't even explore all the nooks of the pub, including the Yurt Café. Embarrassingly, even though we live close, we've never visited, and what a mistake. Thanks!

Roast dinner was very poor. Wine was very expensive. Won't be rushing back. Just under £900 for 10 people no starters or deserts!!

We went Saturday for our Anniversary and we had a lovely evening. Looked after superbly by the staff and the food was delicious, above expectation (which to be fair we always expect the food to be great, but tonight, exceptional).

One of the best pubs in Southwick. What people call a 'proper old fashioned pub'. Small and cosy with an olde world nautical theme. No gaming machines but beautiful coal fires, friendly customers and superb real ales, beers etc at extremely low prices, served by excellent bar staff and Landlord and Lady! 10 out of 10 all round. See you there, perhaps - guaranteed a warm welcome by us olde locals. 🍻😁🍻😁

So pleased to reinstate my 5 star review after I had downgraded my review from 5 Stars to 1 for food after my wife visited in September with a group of friends when portions were ridiculously tiny. First discovered the Bridge in the summer and had one of the best and biggest and best fish and chips ever whilst having great views of the River Adur in their Quayside dining area. We went to there Saturday steak night and food and service was very equally impressive. An excellent fillet steak with corn ribs a whole roast garlic, superb chips, mushrooms, and a choice of sauces, peppercorn, blue cheese or chimichanga. At £20 a head it was ridiculously good value. Looking forward to going back and trying some more of their menu. The beers surprisingly good too Also my 5 star review when I visited August 2024 Wow the fish and chips who said size wasn't important. Same can be said for the rack of ribs. Enough to feed 2 (but I still managed it) Can definitely recommend 100%. My new go to pub restaurant of choice..
