Lovely local's pub run by an older lady, with a much needed (in a chilly September!) real fire. Guinness £5.60 in 2024 so mid-priced. Poor mobile signal so tried the wifi which wouldn't work.

Stopped by for a quick half and to use the toilet. Was a quiet little local boozer in the afternoon, didn't have food so couldn't review. Looks like they do burgers and roasts aswell as karaoke nights. Gents toilets were ok, didn't smell particularly or anything

First time visiting this pub for years. Probably just unlucky but not finding much to agree with on the earlier five star reviews. Staff were at the back of the bar on arrival and retreated further back into the kitchen. Finally noticed us just as we were about to leave for one of the many other pubs in Shoreham. Three drinks ordered. Staff talked amongst themselves whilst they were poured with no attempt to engage with us. Card payment machine offered up. I had to ask how much I was being asked to pay. Not quite up to earlier standards it would seem. And a cheery good bye and a thank you on leaving? Nah

Cosy, friendly, welcoming. There's a variety of seating areas to suit every need. Outside seating, conservatory area with stools and high tables, cosy comfortable seating front of house. Marvelous freshly made lunches and dinners. We had magnificent liver and bacon served with broccoli, mash , spring cabbage and gravy. The two ladies serving (and cooking) were so caring and kind, it felt like home from home. Wonderful Hosts.

Agree with previous comment. Lovely old pub, ruined by bar women who were swearing, drunk & loud. Encouraging the 4 men in the pub to use bad language too. Friday night, such a shame, pub almost empty. We’ve been in the pub many times & it’s gone down hill. This bar woman, (dark haired,) needs to be replaced. We won’t be going back. Beautiful building, could be lovely with right staff.

Used to love the Marlis, it was part of any good Shoreham pub crawl. On Saturday evening me and 5 friends tried to enter there on our way down the high-street. Turns out the new landlord has ruined it. 2 of our group walked straight in but the other 4 were told we couldn’t come in due to the pub being full. The guy who told us wasn’t dressed like a bouncer and didn’t have the appropriate identification on display. Because of this one of our group assumed it was a punter making a joke and laughed. This set him off and he tried to get physically intimidating which would have worked better if he wasn’t about 5’6. At this point and a man and a woman stepped outside and I asked if two of us could replace them. This set the ‘bouncer’ off even more as this was apparently the landlord and we were idiots for not instantly recognising him. When then asked if we could run and grab our mates which promoted the landlord to also enter the d**khead Olympics with the bouncer, neither of them seemingly able to understand the concept of getting our mates and leaving. This went on for ages and escalated to the point of the bouncer threatening to beat us up (or words to that effect) despite our tone being bemusement rather than anger. Eventually we managed to retrieve our friends and left. We had a great day in Lewes & that evening enjoyed pints in The Buckingham Arms, The Ferry, Suters Yard, The Bridge & The Waterside. The only problem we had all night was here and judging from recent reviews it’s safe to say we weren’t the problem here either.

Landlord -more interested in his own experience than his guest. Please do not try and sit where the landlord normally sits, he will be there in a flash to tell you who he is and why you are not welcome in his personal (unmarked area) of the bar. It felt the sort of the place where the landlord can’t wait to tell you who he is, without adding any value to your experience. Maybe enter x-factor if you want to be the centre of everyone’s attention or perhaps actually serve your paying guests.

Yesterday i was around the shorerham-by-sea area, And though i would pop into a new place i have not been while passing by, Found said "Marlipins". Once i approached through into the interior, i was immediately put off by the lack of Protective screens and the staff wearing no PPE! Although the staff where friendly and it did take a while for my drink to be served while it was steady. I noticed that staff where on their mobile phones during my time at the Marlipins. To end this review of the Marlipins, I was completely uncomfortable and unwelcomed. I felt like the staff or Owner did not care for social distancing and for Health and Safety. Staff where practically there to be on their mobile phones. I did not order any food, So i cannot review the food, But i will be back to review the food and to see if the service has seen and improved upon these points. Secret Shopper.

We visited this pub on a Friday night on an overnight stay in Shoreham, I must say we thought this was a quaint little pub, with a guy in the corner singing and playing the guitar, it had quite a nice atmosphere about it and the beer was good the only thing that let this pub down with a guy was sat at the bar vaping - blowing smoke across the whole of the pub, now this is only a small pub so really you couldn’t avoid it & we definitely couldn’t as we were sat at the bar. We spoke to the landlord and asked him if it was legal to vape in the pub - his response was it is in this one...!!!! So we decided we would vote with our feet and leave, shame really as we would have spend the evening there... wasn’t a worry though as we found a lovely old traditional pub just round the corner which looked after us til close !

It was our second choice on the day and because a nearby pub doesn't do food on a Monday. There were four of us including family over from Australia enjoying the summer heat but looking to assuage thirst and hunger. The interior is compact and low-ceilinged and my 6 foot + son had to watch out for his skull! The interior was cool and the light muted. We popped in for a couple of drinks and something to eat on a Sunday lunchtime. Friendly staff put us in a cosy corner by the bar and we got some drinks in before looking at the menu. There’s a small choice but enough to tempt us into having scampi and beer and ale pies. All came up after a short, acceptable wait and were lovely. Nunca he mirado un menú y no he podido encontrar nada que pueda comer. Food wise - only ever had sandwiches which are ok, also served with chips and good value, the fish finger sandwiches are GOOD!. A salad garnish would help with appearances. When you walk through the door you can see the olde world charm of the exterior is mirrored by the traditional English pub inside. It's a very nice place to eat and drink. On a Sunday, roasts are available and these are served plated rather than carvery style but this doesn't mean they skimp on the portions because the plates come piled high. A normal menu is also available so we also sampled the smoked haddock fish cakes with lemon mayo and the bangers and mash as well. All the meals were tasty and plentiful. There was a good selection of traditional puddings and deserts but we were to full to order them. As you would expect there's a good choice of beers to wash it all down. The London pride was particularly good.

Never been before but my party of 4 popped in for a drink prior to going to Tosca across the road. One of the things I hate the most then happened all the heads turned to stare and comment as we entered It felt like a scene from American Werewolf ......there was little more welcome at the bar either.I felt uncomfortable the whole time we were in there and was very relieved to leave.....bearing in mind none of us had 2 heads mutilated faces ,it was still a scene from a Horror Movie Alright !

Good value for Sunday roast. Plenty of veg, good choice of meats and excellent service. Would definately eat there again.

There are fancier pubs in Shoreham and pubs that do great food, but the Marlipins is a 'proper' ale house. Always a choice of well-kept beers and comfortable seats to enjoy it. Nothing pretentious, just a friendly, comfortable pub.

So pleased to reinstate my 5 star review after I had downgraded my review from 5 Stars to 1 for food after my wife visited in September with a group of friends when portions were ridiculously tiny. First discovered the Bridge in the summer and had one of the best and biggest and best fish and chips ever whilst having great views of the River Adur in their Quayside dining area. We went to there Saturday steak night and food and service was very equally impressive. An excellent fillet steak with corn ribs a whole roast garlic, superb chips, mushrooms, and a choice of sauces, peppercorn, blue cheese or chimichanga. At £20 a head it was ridiculously good value. Looking forward to going back and trying some more of their menu. The beers surprisingly good too Also my 5 star review when I visited August 2024 Wow the fish and chips who said size wasn't important. Same can be said for the rack of ribs. Enough to feed 2 (but I still managed it) Can definitely recommend 100%. My new go to pub restaurant of choice..
