Crown & Anchor in Adur

Went today at 12.45pm with a friend for a girly catch up and chilled lunch. Quiet atmosphere, due to changeable weather today wet/sunshine and it was Tuesday! Food great...had smoked salmon and crayfish salad, with fresh crusty bread and shared a side order of thick cut chips...omg the best! Very relaxed time left after 3 1/2 hrs. All staff helpful, cheerful and attentive 10/10.

Always been a great pub, with a lovely riverside garden/patio, which has been improved upon over the years, and has plenty of room, even on a sunny Saturday in May. Staff are always so friendly. ☀️👍🏻

Four of us went to the Crown & Anchor for drinks. We sat out at the back overlooking the river. The drinks and the service were good.

Avoid this place customer service is appalling as when you tell them about their flat Coke they kick you out I must say, the singers were very good though need customer service skills training

Not a good service at all make you buy more than what you need when you ask for an item and then when it comes the cola comes flat and when you ask for it to be sorted out they kick you out avoid at all costs bad Service all around the only good thing was the singers

Never been here before as last week we were in red lion and came across a local band playing we saw that they were playing at crown anchor so as it was our wedding aniversery we decided to go their 3 couples got our drinks and found a table saw that my drink was flat so my freind went to change it and was told nothing wrong with it young girl after askin g again to swap it she did we had drinks and went upto order more drinks and food no one at the bar 2 barmaids saw we were waiting for them to finish talking then both walked away one came back so i said can we order more drinks i said can i have a coke with that she said im not serving you and your freinds i thought she was joking but she just walked away so i got our couples together and sadly left and so did a lot of others who we met there so the poor band missed out as we were going to leave a drink for them behind the bar i wrote a complaint into the manager staight away all i got was we were rude cannot see how as we were not drunk coz we had just came out to the pub will never go back again ended up at piston broke and had a meal at the red lion and i must say food at red lion top quarlity we had roast dinner so please if you go to crown and anchor do not complain about your drink as you will be told to leave

Found staff slow to serve and obnoxious. Drinks were just about cold.but complaining was simply dismissed.

What an awful place this is now.. The only good thing was the view. Food lukewarm at best and my husbands steak was cooked incorrectly so was sent back and then tasted and looked like it had been microwaved The manager,Angie i think her name is looked bored and clearly wanted to be elsewhere Oh just a little tip for you,take something to wipe your table! Really unpleasant visit

Birthday Party in function room with private balcony.Staff from start to finish superb including security, Food fabulous selection for all, well presented really good quality, would highly recommend this place , would be my first choice to use again, great night, ran smoothly, The brilliant Mileta who organised is amazing thank you Crown and Anchor your the Best! I wouldn't go again. Poor service, quality of food is rubbish. The loo's are in the most disgusting state.. in need of a full makeover. There are lots of other choices in the area, so next time we're in the area, we would choose another venue.

We had my sons 21st birthday party in the function room upstairs last night. From the moment we booked, Sarah and her team went above and beyond to make sure we were accommodated and that we all had the best time. We were allowed the room from 12, so we had plenty of time to go in and decorate. It's a beautiful space which includes the balcony too. We ended up dancing to the brilliant DJ until 1am. Thank you so much Sarah, it really couldn't have gone any better x

Had a lovely, well needed roast beef dinner on Sunday after walking back from Brighton. Lovely pub, food was quick and delicious. Drink selection was good and the service was lovely.

I been there last weekend lunch time . I ask for the menu I got told by the manager we are fully booked. Approximately 20 people having a lunch. I order a drink with a tall mixed race long curlley hair . She's been extremely very rude. I have to tell here off . As she was continue to be rude . 0 experience in catreen

What an awful mother's day meal 😥 Set menu for £30, fair enough and very good pricing really, but also means easy to cook for the chef etc as roasts only for main meal. However, this was not the case. 25 mins wait for starter, 70 minutes wait for main meal which are all roasts and all meats were dry, did not come with what the menu said!!! And was of very poor standard! Over cooked food, it was actually terrible. The table behind us was complaining of all the same things too. None of the staff decided to tell anyone there was a wait and the restaurant had about 5 tables, it was not busy. I will not set foot in here again, absolutely appalling, when complaining the member of staff said sorry we're busy, yet they were empty!!!!

Lovely place. Two of us had just cycled from Guildford on the Downs Link. Both of us exhausted and fancied a beer and bite to eat. Ended up in the C and A and is was awesome. Food was great, service was friendly and welcoming, would definitely recommend 👍

Moved into the area 2 years ago and heard negative things about this pub, I have found those views unfounded. The outside area is lovely, overlooking the river Adur, it's a real sun trap. They also had a lager I had never tried before (Hürlimann) which was decent, will have it again. Did not order food but lots of people were eating and seemed to be enjoying it!

Bit run down but new managers only just taken over. Food excellent, sea bass best ever. Nice views over river even from inside. Menu below not same, I had sea bass, my friend had pie.

We hired the function room for my parents 60th Anniversary party and it was perfect. Sarah and all her staff were so friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it.

Dropped in at lunchtime. Was a nice sunny day so I sat outside, alone. Ash trays full, cigarette packs on tables and floor along with dog ends. A great location but needs tidying up before they open!

Just awful! The food order came (wrong items). I ordered bass, which it turned out they did not have, so they sent out some dreadful linguine instead, without consulting us. Please don't ever order the "seafood"linguine. The chef had no idea how to make this dish. Worst ever. The pies are less than average and over-salted. Service is amateurish, even on a very quiet day. This pub has been good in the past, but the current crop of idiots employed here have no idea what they are doing. POST SCRIPT. My son and his girlfriend both ordered the Steak and ale pies, which were very salty, and not good. They had symptoms of food poisoning after this meal which lasted two days, and needed medical intervention. There are obviously serious issues with this kitchen, and their hygeine procedures. PLEASE AVOID EATING HERE!

This once lovely pub has sadly lost its charm. The inside is run down and the menu very basic. It used to have a really good menu but now it appears all fried or microwaved. £16.50 for a plate of the worst scampi I’ve ever tasted with an overwhelming taste of old chip fat is not to be repeated! Such a shame.

Terrible meal. It was early evening on Saturday so should have been an easy meal to prepare BUT... nachos were awful looked like it had just been thrown on the plate. We had ordered 2 one with meat chillies.. we got one with veggie chillies. Shepherds pie was tiny and tasteless with a couple of sprouts of broccoli and a small pot of gravy.. weird. Really disappointed won't be going there again.

I had seabass fillet,fish was nice but veg was frozen and very sparce.Service very slow.I talked to the very new owner,he said he's going to make a lot of changes, lovely man . Will visit again.

Happened to be passing by and took a sneaky look to see if you could see the view and found a wonderful river view garden terrace, which is also dog friendly. Great glass back to the pub which you wouldn’t realise from the front. Lots of tables or roofed huts to sit outside with views over the river, also surprisingly quiet of road noise. Dan, the new owner, happened to be outside and very kindly offered to make us a drink even though he wasn’t actually open yet. Food currently starts at midday but will also be a lovely place to also go for breakfast which they may be introducing, which isn’t available anywhere else with a view. There is a car park across the bridge which is a nice walk over the bridge and to the pub. Thoroughly recommend and will be back.

Although not disable friendly one little bit, me and my wife loved it. Food was spot on and the restaurant is a nice place to sit and look out over the river. Will be coming back

Stumbled across this pub whilst out on a day trip, and the food was lovely. Tasted delicious, really well presented. Today it is very quiet in here, start of the year and a weekday, but the interior is gorgeous, lovely view across the river. The only downside is that those with limited mobility, like myself, struggle a bit with all the steps. Once seated though, I've really enjoyed it and will be back later in the year

Had a wonderful Sunday roast dinner. Everything was tasty & delicious, the beef was melt in your mouth. Roasted parsnips and glazed carrots were lovely, all-around fantastic meals, super value for money, and a cheeky side dish of cauliflower cheese. Well done to the 3 chefs in the kitchen, waiting staff friendly & helpful, Well done to Dan the main man, proper cracking pub, situated in a lovely spot by the water, and plenty of outside seating for people with dogs.

Best Sunday roast dinner !! So much food . Great quality fresh produce cooked to perfection. Staff very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended

Normally a 5 star but on a Friday night, not again. Part of a private works function. Oart of our party was harressed by locals most of the evening. Later a fight went on and glasses were thrown, smashed etc. Loads of police and we left for our safety at that point.

Had the misfortune of having a roast here, the portion of meat was beyond stingy, the worst roast I have had in my life. My wife saw one of the chefs in the bar holding a tea towel over his shoulder and she said it looked like it had never been washed... Would avoid at all costs if you are looking for good quality and value.. shame with the location and view over the river, this place could be a first class place for food.

Very quiet night, went to watch the football but the service was excellent, really nice friendly chatty guy

We visited on a wet and windy Saturday evening, just seeking somewhere for a nice drink while our kids were with their friends. The barman was curt and rude to both my wife and I, seeming to have forgotten anything about customer service that he was ever taught. It is rare that we experience this level of rudeness and it has certainly put us off going to this pub again.

Very enjoyable lunch. Great service from Leo, who was very helpful and not over attentive, but made sure we had everything we wanted. Will definitely be returning.

This is a lovely pub that we hadn't been to before! When you go in the door the bar and tables were down a few steps! There were plenty of places to sit, upstairs as well, which had great views of the river as well as some tables downstairs! It's an old pub with lots of character and good beer!! Will be back again!!

A lovely pub right by the sea. Old and inside it goes on and on with a pool room, darts room, and a downstairs that leads to the sea/river. Standing outside you can be by the river. Inside, you cannot see the river due to the wall outside, yet still a lovely space inside because it has so much light. Our server, Leo, was excellent and gave you the impression that nothing was too much. A masterclass in serving customers. I gave the venue 5-star for the service. Unfortunately, I had to rate the food much less. We ordered the mussels, two lots, and the mussels were very small, overcooked, and the 'classic sauce was watery and did not have a great flavour. I wanted it to be a great dish, as we really love mussels, but alas it was not. Shame.

Lovely walk along the seafront in the sunshine to shoreham followed by a Sunday roast. What a perfect way to spend a precious day off. Well it may have been perfect had we chosen a different place for lunch. We sat down and ordered drinks, started chatting only to realise that we were sitting right in front of what turned out to be a performance area for an afternoon entertainer - PA system literally 12 inches from my head. Now I have seen this entertainer before (Black horse - Rottingdean) and he is - er... entertaining, but, and here's the thing, when booking a table, for 8 people for lunch, would it not have been advisable to warn the group that there was going to be loud entertainment and that entertainment would be pretty much on your table. Anyway we decided to get the conversation in quick as the loud music kicked in and we ordered our food - mostly roasts and a couple of 'Mountain' burgers. The waiter was confused at the request for mountain burgers as he was unaware that they were even on the menu. He turned out to be the owner! An owner that doesn't even know what the kitchen is serving - that's a new one on me. Anyway we sat there for an hour awaiting our food, trying to enjoy the entertainment and convince the mother-in-law to remove the makeshift paper napkin earplugs she had cleverly constructed. After an hour the waiter/owner came over and said "Sorry no roasts left...nothing I can do about it. Choose something else." An hour - a bloody hour we sat there waiting for our food - to be told that. What a farce! He obviously then sent one of the waitresses over to tell us that we could have any food for free, but by that stage the damage had been done and we decided to leave. A real shame. It's a lovely place - right on the river with a great beer garden, but for goodness sake - sort it out. The owner said he's had the place for a couple of years. I just hope that someone who has a clue about customer service, and knows how to manage a kitchen takes it over soon because I shan't be returning as long as the present owner is cluelessly running the place.

Went yesterday with two of my friends, we had a wonderful time and food was amazing!! Best pub food I ever had.

On a wet and windy Sunday afternoon, decided to visit for a roast that frankly, I was damned if I was going to put together myself. What a wonderful, place. Food was exceptional, and lots of it!! Perfectly cooked potatoes, meat and great home made yorkies. The cauliflower cheese genuinely stole the show for us! Staff were very friendly, very helpful and accommodating. Nice glass of red, plenty of soft drinks available. Child and dog friendly. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Hygiene is on point, toilets are clean and well kept. Absolute 10/10 for me. Worth the train ride from Portsmouth!

For context this was a Friday at 6pm I took my family with a friend to have a main dish and one drink each. It was £70. I had a chicken burger that was nice, which was let down by some basic fries and token garnish salad. My partner had a vegan burger which was the reason i’m coming out of my way to leave a review. It was a laughable burger and something you’d expect to be served in a school, just a crumbed patty of some sort, I can’t imagine 4 of these would cost more than £2 in Lidl. It was just hugely overpriced for what it was. I did go and ask if it was normal just incase the kitchen perhaps had run out of a proper vegan burger and they were substituting but they said, they used to have two patties but their boss had said to cut it back to one. Not sure it would help in any way though as it was just beige within a beige bap, with a slice of lettuce and a slice of tomato. It felt very roadside caff of the 90s. Both burgers were £16 each and just looking at the Honest Burger menu in Brighton to compare, i could get something truly special there for £13 so I really think the team at the Crown need to take this on and relook at their menu as this utterly bonkers.

I’ve been using the function room at Crown and Anchor to teach yoga classes and the whole experience has been brilliant. All the staff are all so friendly and welcoming. I needed to find somewhere at short notice and they couldn’t have made it easier. The function room is a beautiful space, it’s warm and cosy with river views and plenty of light. Plus I’ve been able to use their sound system to play my music and create a lovely atmosphere. My students have all said what a great space it is. Huge thanks to Angie and Andy. I highly recommend.

Enormous Sunday roast. Was advised that lamb was the days special which was a no brainer. Catered for gluten free. Vegan/vegetarian options also available. Exceptionally friendly helpful staff. Good value, lots of choice and comfortable surroundings. Family friendly.

First time at this place. Great place for a beer and some decent pub food and great river views. Inexpensive. Friendly welcoming bar staff.

It’s a shame that with the roast they served frozen roast potatoes that were re heated . The plates were nouveau cuisine style ie minimal portion sized and placed in a dressed style ,rather than the good old fashioned pub roast style ,lots of spuds ,gravy ,veggies etc ,I was expecting ,especially for the rather expensive £18 per course . I think it would be a better option ,after reviving the roasts on the menu imho . Service was good

Came here a while ago but never did a review, brilliant scran very delish lovely location and place to eat but the glasses and cutlery were like actually just unwashed or not cleaned properly at all and I ended up getting food poisoning the day after🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ who knows maybe you know how to clean stuff now but yeah the food was 10/10 class munch would demolish again

Since Angie and Andy have taken over the pub has flourished. The menu is much better plus the ambience is now off scale. They are a breath of fresh air always welcoming always with a happy smile and greeting. I'd say number 1 in the establishments I've used. Highly reccomend and will be coming back

With all the vast amount of pubs in Shoreham The Crown & Anchor stands out on it's own by miles. It's quite deceptive walk into the main bar which is a fairly decent size but as soon as you wander further back, you walk into a huge bar/restaurant area then add to the picturesque outdoor setting by the riverside. The drinks were refreshing, the staff very polite, helpful and on the ball the landlady was lovely and friendly the food was outstanding and just when you though it couldn't get better they also have live entertainment no and again The Crown & Anchor is a pub well worth visiting if you're heading to or live in Shoreham.

Wonderful pub, great new management! Looking forward to returning and enjoying some new entertainment.

The Korean chicken burger was very nice. Sadly the Fish & Chips provided a large dry-ish, tasteless piece of fish. The waitress listened to our complaint and said she would let the chef know.

Only an hour from London but it feels like a different world. Such a nice pub and excellent staff.

Had lunch here today and very happy. I had the classic burger and my friend had the Korean chicken - both excellent. Big portions, freshly cooked, proper ground beef and genuine whole chicken breast. Good service, great views over the river, reasonable prices, what more could you want from a pub lunch ?

Service was poor and very unfriendly, unwelcoming to say the least but worst of all the food was absolutely dreadful, the worst pub food I’ve eaten sense the 80’s which is such a shame because the area at the rear of the pub is fabulous with views over the river, why o why don’t you get a top class chef and revamp the front of this shambolic pub, change the front look into a pub that invite you in… I say all this with a sad heart as I’ve lived in Shoreham for many year and come back regularly to see friends, what a sad waste of what should a class waterside venue!

Disappointed by the service, and the mussels were not fresh, the fish had bones not really acceptable .staff were friendly, out side views are good.

If you want tasty food prepared professionally on time this is NOT the place for you. If you want a lot of food with a bit of taste that you can to wait for then definitely go here.

We often return in June for our wedding anniversary, as we had our Reception there. Different Chef and menu since then, and less fish orientated (which we liked), but still great value and good quality. Helpful, personable staff and superb (large portion) food. My son had some of my camembert wheel and fell in love with molten cheese for the first time. Yum! We'll be back!

Stunning location despite the gale force wind, inside is a lovely typical old fashioned pub with the most beautiful views over the estuary, the food was gorgeous and what made it was that they never rushed us, loved that we had time between courses. The food was fantastic and they are huge portions, definitely worth a visit. Oh the outside area is beautiful with even better views.

A very nice pub by the sea. It has an outdoor terrace, huge windows and hearty fish and chips portions. I really enjoyed their pan fried sea bass. The service was great too!

Very nice pint of Spitfire bitter. Lots of split level areas in the pub. Pleasant lady serving. Only there for one pint. Sat outside on the patio, ample seating overlooking the River Adur. Brief visit, a Tuesday afternoon.

Wonderful food, and because I was driving, they had a good selection of 00 beers to choose from. I am glad I called in.

Well located, established pub with large sunny terrace at rear with seating for 100+, superb views alongside river at ground level. (Only 5 people using when I was there Thursday in May 12.45 pm on a blue sky sunny day) Problem for me was majority of seating was closed bench type (need to lift leg over to get in) they also had seen better days - looking very old and worn. There was some newer editions with movable bench seating along with some covered booths on perimeter But I prefer a bit more comfort at my late age. Not wheelchair friendly from Main Street entrance but you could go down side of building to get to outside terrace - but then should you need the toilet which is inside there are more steps ( just the nature of the old building) nice clean gents -liquid soap warm air dryer all working well. Friendly staff cool beer varied menu but too pricey on my budget. Does not suit my needs but inside better furniture equipped.

Fab find. The food was delicious. I had the vegetarian roast and my partner the beef. Very good portions beautifully cooked and presented well. We both had the white chocolate and velvet cheesecake - amazing. The staff were so friendly. Food delivered to us promptly. An excellent experience from start to finish and I would highly recommend. Will definitely return.

Disappointing visit to this previously amazing food pub - the menu on the website bears no relation to the very limited , overpriced basic food on offer on the white laminated sheet , no specials, unwiped tables , complete lack of welcome despite restaurant being empty , service very lacking almost entirely and whilst we were eventually told they had no chef that day (burnt potatoes, overcooked fish, cold , frozen mussels, cheese burgers with cold grated cheese) we won’t be going back again. Sad for them as I know they are trying to attract locals but we felt very ripped off and disappointed and most of us didn’t finish our food ….

We decided to come here as the menu advertised online looked like there was plenty of choice. Unfortunately the menu we were given had much less choice and was quite basic. My partner's cod was just average and my pepperoni pizza had very little pepperoni on it. Disappointing

Four of us went for sunday lunch and wow it was honestly the most amazing roast dinner with all the trimmings ! The lamb was Devine soo tender , finally a pub that cooks crispy roast potatoes, my eldey father demolished the lot and said it was the best he had eaten , portions were very generous and the staff were soo efficient and went above and beyond, we will most def return , advise booking as it was a full house and obviously a very popular place due to the fab sunday roast

We went for lunch the other day. Sat outside in the sunshine. The view is lovely. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff and prompt service. The food was delicious and the portions were perfect sizing. Looking forward to spending more time here the the summer. Highly recommended.

Terrible service, they really didn't care. We were planning on staying for dinner but decided the food and food service would unlikely be good. Also fyi the menu is vastly smaller than on the website. Such a shame, this used to be an excellent pub with really delicious food. It was empty, which says it all really.

Went for a pint and sandwich for lunch on a Thursday. Ordered at 1pm. At 1.20 server asked if we were ready to order. Said we had 20 mins ago. 1.30 still no sandwiches - asked why and were told they had to go out to get some bread !! Sandwiches arrived 1.45 literally 2 bits of buttered bread with some BLT. I complained and they halved the bill and said people don't usually have lunch there in the week !! Why not say they don't do lunches ???

Lovely spot for a drink overlooking the river, would just like to shout out to the fantastic bar amid server who attended the tables outside, dark haired lady, absolute class employee, spoke to each table and was super dig observant and friendly and with permission on the next table offered our did left over chicken, so sweet a real treasure and asset to the establishment

Came in for some lunch with my daughter. The food was lovely and so was the service, view of the river topped it off. Staff made us feel very welcome definitely will be coming back.
