Truffles in Adur

I visited Truffles Friday 5th April in the morning around 9:30am. I was smiled at when I went up to the cafe and was served quickly. I ordered my usual cheese and mushroom breakfast omelette, which is usually delicious. But the one made yesterday for me was disgusting - couldn't taste or see any cheese and there was no more than a couple of mushrooms cut up in it (and that's me being generous). Hence, I left most of it and when I went to pay I mentioned it to the young girl (which I think had pale pink hair!), and her response was, I'll ask but just waited for me to hand over my money. And as I'm not a confrontational person, I left as I was upset by it all because I'd gone in for a nice breakfast but that was not what I got. I think I'll have to look for a new cafe as after years of going to Truffles in Brunswick Road, Shoreham-By-Sea, the whole experience wasn't good all. ✨️ REVISED REVIEW: As I do not like change, I gave Truffles in Brunswick Road, Shoreham-By-Sea another go today ... Mon 22nd April at lunchtime. Again I had cheese and mushroom omelette which was made to perfection; plenty of cheese and full of mushrooms it was absolutely delicious. With regard to today's visit ... I now highly recommend Truffles for a delectable mouth watering delicious meal anytime of the day 😁✨️

I normally don’t leave reviews of reviews, but the review left by Guerrilla Radio about the beguiling YumYum was too good to ignore. The beautifully crafted use of language full of passion and verve, a positively pleasurable use of prose. A wonderful bite sized review and I would love nothing more than to follow more from this reviewer

The women making the rolls was very aggressive and rude made you feel so unwelcome Such a shame as it could be a lovely place

There is obviously a certain culture at Truffles, as I have now witnessed a similar rudeness at both the Shoreham and Lancing branches. The baked products are of a reasonable quality & price, but there are better bakeries in both locations that welcome your business.

Always enjoyed Truffles. I’ve bought numerous of their pastries including sausage rolls, steak slice, etc. Friends and family always enjoy too. Also dined in a couple of times for jacket potato and sandwich. Always been pleasant and great value for money.

I went there for the first time and even if they had plenty of staff (or that looked like to me) the service seemed very slow for basic menu that should be just warm up and serve. -I asked for the quiche of the day and she didn't know, she went checking and brought a takeaway box like "we've got this one". -I asked for the soups and she also went to check what soups they had that day. I ordered and after 25 mins I was only given a portion of chips. The soup never made to the table. Decided to pay for the chips and leave, at least I wasn't charged for the chips. I could see this was similar for other table (long wait). Again, very basic menu that should only require to warm up. Not going again.

Welsh Rarebit on the Special board. Didn’t fancy the ‘garni’ so said I didn’t need that (thank you). What arrived was a single slice of Rarebit on toast. £6.50. If that’s “special” I’m a Martian. #cheated

Absolutely terrible!!! Ordered 2 sandwiches, a tea and coffee. Cutlery came.. Very dirty, with the remains of jam still on knife. Sent it all back for replacement. After 30mins of waiting we still had not received food, even after reminding staff twice. They then had the cheek to bring us the bill!!!. Only 10 tables with a snack type menu and waitress said they were struggling. Nobody seemed to be in charge, and the waitress was didn't seem to have a clue where she was!!!. Worst ever service in any cafe,bakery or restaurant I've ever been to. We also noticed the next table sent food beck because it was inedible,and another chap requested a refund.

Food was good and hot and very reasonable I've never had a bad meal at truffles great value for money

I was in on Saturday for lunch and it was lovely, the lady that cooked and served me my lunch has to be one of the best bit about the place, she was lovely and so helpful gutted I forgot to get her name to personally mention her but I remember her as a bar maid at the crabtree years ago always a pleasure chatting to her

We had an enjoyable quick lunch, the food came promptly, very hot, good size portion and most tasty. The staff were friendly and for a small cafe everything was as it should be. I would definitely revisit.

The food here is really nice, it’s a traditional bakers, great bread, cakes all really fresh. Always busy. I buy bread here and occasionally will buy a pre made sandwich. It’s very good quality. You get what you pay for!

Fantastic cakes and table service similar to a restaurant

Staff were amazing, we were about to miss our train so they packed up our allday breakfasts for us to have as a takeaway. Thank you

The food was very nice. The People on the till were friendly. However, due to the server forgetting to ask us if we were eating in or taking our food away, we apparently sat in the restaurant when we were not supposed to. The mistake was then compounded when a very rude staff member came round to inform us of the error rather abruptly. Before we even had the chance to offer to pay the difference, she made a further comment that as it was quiet we could stay, before openly chastising the other staff in front of other customers. Leaving us feeling very unwelcome.

Seemingly an ongoing issue with rude staff member. One particular older lady with angular features who works here is extremely rude and abrupt. The entire visit was unpleasant because of this ladies behaviour. I wont return.

Always happy with these stores, however I have a note to management. Please work harder to reduce single plastic use . Received my sandwich today in a plastic disposable box. Paper bag is fine, thanks.

Visited today, asked if they do gluten free bread for a bacon sandwich take out, astounded to find they do, great bread, lovely crispy bacon, best ever!

Stone the crows! Am I the last person to have found this place? Probably. Our family was visiting Shoreham (revisiting in my case, since I grew up in Worthing and relocated to the U.S. many years ago....but I digress), and we were in search of lunch. We came across Truffles and, bingo! My first clue of how good a place is: do they have a whole bunch of customers in a queue? Yes. Second clue. There were a lot of customers in the cafe in the back. Third clue: the actual baked goods! Yum! It took me a while (i.e. decades) to find this place, but I'm glad we chose this vs. 'lunch' from the supermarkets.

Always loved the bakery here as it is reasonably priced and really good quality food. Would recommend.

Poor customer service from the "older waitress" very rude and blunt. Not what we expected. We waited 2 hours for food. There was another family who came after us, they ordered and got there's very quickly and came 45 mins after us. Good quality food just wasn't happy with the service.

This venue has transformed the feel of Brighton Square, making it somewhere you'd want to sit, eat and drink rather than walk through quickly. Sadly we didn't sit outside under the twinkly lights, but we were happy with out inside table and the equally gorgeous decor. Our server Yasmin was attentive, friendly and professional. The menu was just the right length, with something to please all three of us (a veggie, pescetarian and omnivore), including a few nice vegetarian dishes. The only blip - one of us ordered the caesar salad which we didn't realise had meat in it (so now we know what 'coppa' means!). We had to send it back and suggested they make it clearer on the menu or make sure people realise while ordering - we can't be the only ones who didn't know and we eat out a lot. The Manager changed the dish without any fuss though. Look forward to returning when the place is less busy (we went on a Friday night), including with my laptop to try out the comfy looking sofas. A refreshing addition to the Brighton restaurant scene.

We went into the cafe to have lunch. The food looked good, cafe was clean and we waited to be served. Young ladies there were busy chatting so we had to wait. The food was hot, tasty and nicely presentedand accompanied by a delicious cup of tea. Then I saw another lady appear from the kitchen, wipe her nose with her hand and then she cleaned something off the floor. I watched to see her wash her hands, but no! Instead she picked up a cloth and wiped the back counter. Then we heard a crash and she had dropped the tray of pies as she tried to remove them from the oven. I watched and was shocked at what I seen. Shame, but this person needs to retake their hygiene certificates and put them into practice.

Truffles (Shoreham) staff are always working hard. There were 5 of us & they squeezed us in, by moving tables together, during a very busy lunchtime. Despite this, we were still served in good time (about 15mins for food). Own made milkshakes using ice-cream were delicious. All food was tasty, & fresh salad - no limp lettuce &, thankfully, no raw onion! [If you like it, fine, ask for it, not everyone can enjoy it].

Excellent afternoon tea. Good value and nicely refurbished. Will return.

It is what it is, a slightly old school British bakers. Staff are always helpful and friendly.

What shall I have today? ANSWERS ON A POSTCARD well I had the largest mushroom omelette ever with a salad not limp lettuce cucumber and tomatoes but a varied ingredient salad that screamed eat me It was served to me in a clean homely hospitable environment by staff who really seem to care Thank You but just a suggestion for Avocado on toast for adults and Hummous for the kids menu and perhaps yoghurt or similar variety can help keep you as busy as you deserve to be and your customer service is really good 99.9 per cent brilliant and well done on 40 years serving the community 100 per cent

Food ok service not very good staff were talking about me as i asked for the salad that came with food it seemed like to much trouble to do anything as a reviewer i like to mention good places to eat sorry but this is not one of them

Nice selection of well cooked food presented very well by a lovely and very friendly team. Also great selection of salads. A relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and if that's not enough, some of the best bread In town.

I popped into Truffles in Shoreham this morning for an Americano. All of the staff were chirpy and welcoming, much like a pet parrot. Seriously, I fully recommend this café for a great drink and lovely atmosphere.

Being a resident of the local area for almost 10 years now, I am familiar with the Truffles bakeries. They really are an enigma. Delicious food. But I have yet to find a branch whose staff are anything but rude and grumpy with their customers. If there was anywhere else to grab a bacon bite locally, I’d probably never use them again! Such a shame as their produce really is good.

Very tasty English breakfast! No hash browns today but chips made a good substitute.

Dreadfully rude older member of staff with fair hair who was creating a real tension in the shop and cafe. Younger staff members were subdued and wary of her. I wont ever visit again and got the impression this woman is intent on ensuring no-one else visits the cafe either

My son treated me too afternoon brunch on 24th August 2021. Lovely ladies who can not do enough for you, the manager is an asset too your shop, their were no chips available too go with my sons burger, so offered an alternative. Too me that is great thinking rather than my son going without. We loved our time together as mum and son. And thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Great place too go for any time of the day, the lovely ladies will look after you well!!

Lovely coffee, nice variety of hot drinks, reasonably priced menu and good food. Service is good, welcoming and friendly.

Excellent bakery, with great food. But unfortunately they consistently use the non vegetarian tongs with vegetarian food. The constant mixing of the red handled and green handled tongs with food like sausages and bacon, and then touching the vegi pasties for examples makes it difficult for my family to visit here again. Ive seen this happen on a few different occasions

It’s a shame their pastries are so good, because the staff are so horrible. Every time I have been in, I’m always greeted with dirty looks and impatience, looking at other reviews I’m clearly not the only one who thinks this either.

Went for takeaway Tea and cake on 27th March and 27th April. On both occasions although the food and drink were fine, the staff were miserable,barely spoke and you got the impression it was a nuisance having to serve you. They need to remember that without us coming in,they will be out of a job.it was the same both occasions... don't know if the same staff

They would do well to remember that with the huge choice of cafes with 200 yards,without the customers they will be out of a job.

The two Americano coffees we paid £4.40 for were most disappointing and honestly tasted like dishwater ! had to throw away as undrinkable.

I went to shoreham truffles today to buy a chicken and bacon sandwich the bacon was wrapped in grease and the chicken had a funny taste I only had 2 bites and left it will not be going back again

Welcoming staff, tasty cake (and 2 forks) and free WiFi. Really worth calling into when you need a cup of tea (or more!).

We visited truffles for lunch and it always looks and smells nice, we ordered and was waited on quickly staff very chatty between themselves and not with the customers very loud. As we were watching the staff make a sandwich she used her hands with no gloves false nails on and nail varnish she was grabbing hands of meat and vegetables and did not wash her hands once and then used the till still hadn’t washed her hands we later learnt that this member was actually the manager we were disgusted by this we complained to a very nice member of staff to whom we had watched and she wore gloves washed hands regularly and was very pleasant needless to say we will not be returning and have also advised our family and friends to avoid.

Some of my family travelled down from Kent to come to Shoreham market so we popped into Truffles to reminisce and have a quick meal. The food is always good and the service. Two of us had the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon which was delicious and there was a very generous portion of the smoked salmon. One had the macaroni cheese which came with 3 slices of French bread and butter it looked very tasty and my sister was delighted with it. One had the ham, 2 eggs and chips, the ham looked a good quality and it was well received. The meals were all good and reasonably priced. The facilities could well do with a lick of paint as could the restaurant ceiling but otherwise a great place.

If you like a very English Breakfast one may find one here. In addition we get a nice pot if tea with tea leaves and a tea strainer. On leaving I purchased one of their delicious sandwiches. Well worth a visit.

When I visit Shoreham I look forward to visiting my favourite English traditional cafe for a latte. There are other tempting offers too. The atmosphere is lovely. I do love this see the ladies making freshly made sandwiches too.

Having OCD, this is a perfect place to eat. The staff are extremely kind to me, & cater to my needs (ie when I have a toasted sandwich, I only like cucumber on the side, 7 slices, no more no less, & they are quite happy to do this for me.) It is quite a popular cafe, so I have to pick the right time when they're less busy. A lovely place to eat or for just popping in for a coffee.

I get my bread from Truffles, the selection of breads is good, they slice on the premesis and the service is always polite and helpful.

This nice cafe in Shoreham is also a bakers, so you can leave with fresh bread and cakes after a delicious lunch. Their Fish Pie is the best, but all dishes are beautifully cooked, presented, generous in size and good value. Friendly service too. Generally busy, which is no surprise, but just big enough to ensure don’t wait. Enjoy!

We have visited Truffles in Shoreham for breakfast on very many occasions, always happy with the food, prices and service.

Nice cakes and lovely food. But oh my god the staff are rude! Very very rude dark hair lady and to be honest all of them are bad. Make you feel like you shouldn't be there! Two stars are the young blonde girls. Very good customer service. Please get rid of the rude staff!

The pasty was nice and hot and the pastry crisp, but it seemed no different from a generic shop bought pasty. No meat pieces, it all seemed to merge into one. Maybe I am spoiled with real pasty's from Cornwall.

They do such tasty food, the service is great and the cakes are the best! There is a good variety to choose from!

Food is lovely but pricey. What really lets it down is the staff, so rude and unwelcoming, make you feel like you’re an inconvenience to their day. Shame because the other Truffles branches are lovely and welcoming. Save your money and go to Hectors Shed instead, much nicer in there.

My local go to place bakery. The selection of cakes and bread is very good. Price wise it is reasonable. Everything tasted fresh!

Truffles of Shoreham is the heart of our little town, lovely food along with very friendly staff.

Strolling through Shoreham and fell in to this tea room on Saturday. Greeted and served by pleasant young girls. Visited late pm and had tea and cake - lemon and orange cake very yummy.

It is a rare sight to find a traditional place to have a nice cuppa & cake - sprinkled with plenty of Chitt-Chat.

We stopped just before the train back to London. We were buying a few Bakewell tarts, the lady asked us to take a pre packaged 4 set. Which we did.

Useful from time to time for a takeaway lunch, reasonably priced sandwiches, salads and pastries. A typical bakery selling iced buns, yum yums and sausage rolls. Not so keen on the coffee though.

Mi hija en ley entró en esta panadería para una ensalada, el personal era muy grosero cuando ella preguntó si podían hacerla un pavo bowl ensalada. ¿qué te parece esta es Navidad y con risas con otro rugía miembro del personal. Que dejó la sensación de estar muy arraigado. Tienes que enseñar a su personal cómo hablar al cliente ya no se esté utilizando esta tienda.

Sabrosos desayunos y el personal muy amable. Encantadora panadería demasiado si te apetece un tentempié para llevar al salir.

The staff are always very friendly, the breakfasts are delicious as well as the lunch menu and cooked to a high standard, defiantly recommend it! I don't know what the previous review was all about.. a load of rubbish!

had breakfast here when it arrived our toast was rock hard like a brick,eggs not cooked properly,overall horrible and not cheap,staff member threw our bill on the table before we had even received our food charming,the staff in this place think they are doing you a favour by serving you,avoid avoid.

Stopped for a morning coffee and cake , lovely staff and a loyalty card . Gave the card to my daughter as she lives round the corner .Good value .

Not a bad place to stop for breakfast. There is a variety of options available. The service was fast and efficient though not over friendly. A bit on the pricey side compared to other similar breakfast experiences. On the whole, acceptable.
