Website says Shoreham store less busy than usual but service in the cafe was awful! Over half an hour in a queue to order food and drink. Not a single member of staff appearing rushed or hurrying! No apology for people having to wait! On the plus side - easy to find a table as everyone had left by the time we got to the front of the queue!

I would like to say a massive thank you to Jo who does the bra fitting service. I popped in with my young teenage daughter for a fitting but hadn’t realised you needed an appointment as I couldn’t find anywhere on the Marks website to say so. Jo was great, just giving us a few minutes of her time in between customers was all we needed, this was my daughter’s first time having a fitting and Jo made her feel really comfortable. Thanks again Jo i really do appreciate great customer service.

My partner and I visited the store for a quick grocery shop recently. We’ve been shopping at M&S across the country for many years and never had a bad experience before. This time, however, we were followed in by the security guard who then proceeded to trail us through the entirety of our shopping trip making us incredibly uncomfortable. This man made absolutely zero effort to make it less obvious that he was monitoring us. He returned to his post by the door when we went in to the self-checkout. My partner made sure that she got a receipt for our shopping (which we normally don’t bother with) because we just knew we were going to get stopped by him and sure enough, as we were about to exit, he called us back in for absolutely no reason and asked for our receipt. At no point did he try and stop any of the other people leaving the store and the whole situation left us incredibly upset. I understand the way loss prevention works and in no way, shape or form were his actions appropriate. We both wore non-baggy clothes (I’m a doctor and was dressed in fitted scrubs). Neither of us carried any bags or containers. We got our trolley and went about shopping like a normal couple asking for help from store employees a couple times to find things. We are fully cognisant that what we experienced was actually racial profiling, being the only young non-white people in the store. It reflects on how the store trains their security personnel and should, perhaps, be something to reflect on. On our part, we will be looking for an alternative to shopping here in the future.

A spacious, light, airy store, with a quality feel about it Ive only jumped on to comment after being bowled over by a young member of staff a couple of days ago.. With so many rude and entitled young folk in communities these days, to meet a smart, polite, charming and engaging young guy was a breath of fresh air. Nothing was to much effort and even after hed helped me, I noticed when he was asked by other shoppers, where a product was, he would lead them to what they were looking for, chatting warmly with the shoppers and never once just pointed them in the direction of what they were looking for A classic example of how simple acts make the difference and can impact on someones day. Oh I neber mentioed I was told by anoher staff member this young man was on his induction day ! Hes going to do very well... Way to go George

UNDERCOVER SECURITY GUARD- visited today around 12 and immediately spotted a man I Beleive to be your undercover store detective- tall, slim, light hair wearing dark top and trousers - the reason I know he is one is because he made it obvious by walking fast up and down isles and then popped up in the three sections I went too- children’s uniform section, homeware and in the general ladies clothes section- with no basket no trolley no partner and he was not only making a poor job of being plain clothed but he made me feel very uncomfortable to the point I left I have no clue what the manual is for profiling a potential shoplifter but I come there at least every other week for the last 8 years including the food hall! For the record I’m not a scruff, I drive a bmw, yes my Gucci purse in my bag is real as are the sunglasses on my head ! STOP profiling innocent shoppers and be more discreet. We had to ask at the till for a menu as the listings were poorly shown high up in the air above the tills. We ordered all day breakfast and coffee and had to wait sometime before it was served to as at our table. The food was cold and not up to the standard anyone would expect from M&S. Mushrooms were under cooked and the streaky bacon was thin and though to eat. In the past M&S always had high standards, but today's meal was so poor and anyone could get better service in the local park cafe.

Avoid this M&S. Due to a staffing issue they were unable to process my payment in store for an ex-display sofa on the day I came in, but promised they would keep it for us and call in the morning to sort payment out. They called the morning after saying they couldn't "reserve" anything as this is against their policy and we would have to come in immediately if we wanted it. I told her I am at work today so the earliest we could come in would be 7pm. Came in at 7pm to discover they sold it to another customer!! Keep getting told they "don't reserve items" and "it's first come first serve", but I never wanted to reserve it and I was first to come. I wanted to buy it there and then when I first came in and had my card out and ready but due to a M&S staffing issue they couldn't do it. Called to complain over a week ago but haven't heard back yet. Very unprofessional service. Wasted hours of driving and petrol.

1 star for the cafe. There is always a long queue to order, food takes ages to come (30 minutes for jacket potatoes, which is a very simple order). Massive inconsistencies with what food they have, sometimes the jacket potato comes with the coleslaw, sometimes it doesn’t.. with no prior warning or apology. We chose and paid extra to have beans and cheese on our jacket yesterday, but honestly we shouldn’t have bothered as there was hardly any beans. When I asked for more the lady said ‘that is our standard serving’, which it isn’t, I always have jacket potato’s at M&S cafes elsewhere and they are never as stingy as the portion I was served. This cafe is going downhill massively, the manager needs to sort out the food inconsistencies, long queues to order, make it clear what food you actually have and also provide customer service to staff.

It's getting worse. Not sure if they encourage theft or trying to get rid of their 'older' customers. Popped in there to get £100 gift card. No tills. There are some self service ones but when you're buying for an older relative and it's difficult to even get a card in the first place, filled me with 0 confidence the person I was buying for would be able to use it. No sale today and shopped elsewhere. 3 out of 5, generally above average and is good service. Staff very helpful. Had one occasion - Christmas with the click and collect - staff member advised to pack into bags and proceed to checkout and pay (I have a ticket, email of order, a bar code - I'm thinking ok - go to till and pay, not a problem). Get to the till, checkout staff then requests I unpack all the shopping for her to scan it and then I can re-pack everything. Indicates staff have good intentions but mis-management from above giving poor leadership. Have shopped here again but not for food at Christmas

I can’t believe the amount of money that’s being brought into this business and yet they can’t be bothered to have a member of staff plus maintenance team to keep up with toilet hygiene. The location for the toilets is ridiculous you have to walk the other side to the store to locate the toilets when they could have the toilets located nearer to the restaurant. The smell of the toilets plus seeing ceilings falling apart including leaks is utterly disgusting and gross to witness. It frustrates me as I have a mother who has dementia that clearly needs to be guided to the toilets that’s nowhere near the restaurant. It makes my blood boil how the store can’t even think for others that have disabilities or even have a brain to locate the toilet close enough to the restaurant. It’s a huge store that has enough space to relocate the toilets. SORT THIS STORE TOILET HYGIENE OUT PLEASE ITS UTTERLY DISGUSTING!!!!!

Plus we had finished our drinks in the wait which was a huge mistake as when the orders arrived they were not one bit like a toastie..more like a load of greasy sludge on the plate. I used this store regularly and really liked it, but their recent insistence to use the self-checkouts across the whole store is infuriating. By all means have self-service tills available but do not remove the option of a person and customer interactions for those who want that experience. Staff could quite easily have served me at the 'refund only' till straight away before belittling me and marching me back to the machine only to find it was, as I had explained, a problem with the machine. Quite a different experience to usual. I think m&s may have overlooked the reason why a lot of people liked to shop at their stores. Hopefully they will make amends sooner rather than later.

Oh! How little you understand shopping, Marks and Spencers of Shoreham. Today I visited, partly to buy my parents clothes from a brand I know they use, and partly to enjoy the kind customer service and benefit from a little interaction in my busy, fairly lonely life. I chose a linen shirt for Dad, a white blouse for Mum. I tried to checkout in menswear, but was repulsed by the automated checkout. High anxiety. I want a human! I cried. The helper nearby tells me, they're all automated now, no humans! Horrified I raced to ladieswear to check and indeed, no attended checkouts. I exclaimed my sorrow - we may as well all shop online now! And left. Indeed I bought Dad the same looking linen shirt for £24 pounds less online - delivery tomorrow, in person. I walked over to Tesco and bought linen trousers for Mum and checked out with a real human. Phew! Anxiety back down to normal levels.

Marks and Spencer has always been a step above the other large retail shops. They have recently installed self checkouts. I found them to be cumbersome and slow, because of the security tags on the cloths it repeatedly needed an associate to come over and help. Unfortunately there was only one available for all the self check out kiosks. Consequently it took more than 20 minutes to get finished. To add insult to injury as my mother and I walked out of the shop the alarm sounded due to missed anti theft tags. The employee who came to us was rude and unhelpful, he was offended that I told him the new system was horrible. Yet another delicate ‘woke’ individual, who does not understand the concept of customer service.

Last time we visited they said the dishwasher was broken so they served all food in paper boxes. I had a jacket potato with beans and cheese and there were hardly any beans and it was very difficult to eat out of this box. The portion size was also about 1/3 due to this. I was in store at 0810am today. The music was so loud, and absolute row to my ears.I approached one of the managers, nice young man and asked if I could make a comment, which was “ it used to be a peaceful shopping experience in here” and referred to the music. He replied that m and s is celebrating pride month and that is why music is louder than normal.I am NOT homophonic and that comment isn’t relevant. Can the music be delayed till after 9am? It puts me off looking round the store.Compromise needed please.

Excellent for food shopping Clothes line still not very exciting. Shapeless dresses, tops to short for long bodied women and short sleeved longer tops would be appreciated.

Seriously large store. Even has an opticians. Well spaced and good selection of clothing. Fitting rooms are of a good size. Tills can get busy with queues at both mens and womens clothing areas. Good sized car park.

The new opticians shop is wonderful, with a great selection. I took my son's broken glasses into the shop and the staff were so helpful and fixed them in minutes. I will definitely be back for my annual checkup.

We thought we would splash out and buy 2 sofa's from M&S. What a mistake that has been. When the sofa's arrived one was broken. So a replacement was ordered. Weeks went by and then M&S contacted us to say that they could no longer replace the sofa as it wasn't in production anymore. As we had two sofa's we didn't want different style/colours etc so we asked for the money back. M&S said they would refund the money as soon as they had picked up the sofa's. Now I've been waiting ages for them to arrange for the sofa's to be picked up, something you would think would be easy to do, but every time I contact them they are still 'working on it'. In the meantime we can't order new sofa's as we don't have the refund. We've had a poor product and poor service. We will never be buying from M&S again.

Feels very classy but also like you need a golf cart to get around as it's so massive and set out like a jesters labyrinth. If you navigate successfully from the main entrance (next to big Tesco) then you are rewarded with a food section (not a minotaur as I was expecting and relieved not to find). While they sell most items I focussed mainly on the bakery section. Which was great. Overall: classy, bit confusing.

My mother required 2 new bras and we arrived late, 19.20 in the evening, to avoid traffic and other customers. Suzanne in lingerie was ready to assist. Suzanne was kind, very helpful with suggestions and assisted with fitting. Suzanne could not have done any more to make our day and won our hearts that evening. Thank you Suzanne from the bride to be and her mother.

One of the few shops apart from Lidyl where there was no music and it was a PEACEFUL shopping experience! I did mention it once and the reply was “you are not the first person to complain”-What is wrong ,particularly 0800am when it opens to just be quiet and enjoy looking and get what you want in peace.Another member of staff said it was for the staff. The food is good but not impressed with clothes .

Clean warm good sized rooms and facilities, could do with some hooks in rooms for coats etc., and a reading lamp both sides of double in room 4. Friendly, nice bar and lounge quirky in a good way, lovely well kept ales, right within stones throw of all the best of Shoreham, close to station, walking distance to Galleria Italian restaurant, nice area around church, and the Ropetackle Arts Centre...

Lovely walk along the seafront in the sunshine to shoreham followed by a Sunday roast. What a perfect way to spend a precious day off. Well it may have been perfect had we chosen a different place for lunch. We sat down and ordered drinks, started chatting only to realise that we were sitting right in front of what turned out to be a performance area for an afternoon entertainer - PA system literally 12 inches from my head. Now I have seen this entertainer before (Black horse - Rottingdean) and he is - er... entertaining, but, and here's the thing, when booking a table, for 8 people for lunch, would it not have been advisable to warn the group that there was going to be loud entertainment and that entertainment would be pretty much on your table. Anyway we decided to get the conversation in quick as the loud music kicked in and we ordered our food - mostly roasts and a couple of 'Mountain' burgers. The waiter was confused at the request for mountain burgers as he was unaware that they were even on the menu. He turned out to be the owner! An owner that doesn't even know what the kitchen is serving - that's a new one on me. Anyway we sat there for an hour awaiting our food trying to enjoy the entertainment and convince the mother-in-law to remove the makeshift paper napkin earplugs she had cleverly constructed. After an hour the waiter/owner came over and said "Sorry no roasts left...nothing I can do about it. Choose something else." An hour - a bloody hour we sat there waiting for our food - to be told that. What a farce! He obviously then sent one of the waitresses over to tell us that we could have any food for free, but by that stage the damage had been done and we decided to leave. A real shame. It's a lovely place - right on the river with a great beer garden but for goodness sake - sort it out. The owner said he's been had the place for a couple of years. I just hope that someone who has a clue about customer service, and knows how to manage a kitchen takes it over soon because I shan't be returning as long as the present owner is cluelessly running the place.

Warm, welcoming stop for coffee and lunch. Helpful and friendly staff. Delicious food and great coffee, in relaxing surroundings. We felt very well looked after, even the youngest member of the group (5 months old) who loved the twinkly lights on the ceiling.
