We have visited twice. The first time we had tapas and the second time we had the Sunday roast. Both times we went the food was delicious and plentiful. Good service, we were made to feel very welcome. We would highly recommend.

We received a warm welcome from the lovely staff and were treated to the tastiest tapas. I wished I had more room in my tummy to try more dishes. The quality was more akin to a fine restaurant than a friendly little pub. We were stunned at the price when we came to pay. Amazing value. We'll definitely be back soon. N.b. almost worth a trip just to see the quirky train carriage loos.

Steve and Kat opened the pub again just before Christmas so come and use it or lose it. Welcoming log fire visit, found new billiards and darts and a spruce up with new hand designed signage. New Wednesday Quiz ran by the landlord. Found London Pride and HRveys best with excellent range of lagers, ciders and Guinness. Plus the usual brands of spirits and wines. Kitchen is now open as well and Had a wonderful Sunday lamb roast (but could had Beef, Chicken or Pork) and you can see my picture below how good it is! More plans for food coming.

When so many pubs now are caught between brand chains and local pubs who don’t know how to keep their beer and you can see how so many micro breweries have taken off. Many traditional pubs staff and owners just don’t talk or welcome to people.🤷🏻♂️ The Gardeners, Maggie and her family and crew are lovely people and run well with a comfortable setting and customers feel relaxed, enjoyable and safe! The beer and drinks are perfect and good grub can be found particularly Sunday Roasts. A REAL pub in the middle of Sompting village and certainly one of the best in the Worthing and Adur regions.

Decided to go here for lunch due to the reviews but unfortunately very disappointed. It is true that the staff were very friendly and welcoming but that's where the positive experience finished for us. It was a particularly cold day and the heating had broken down, unfortunate yes, but the open fire and electric radiators placed in the bar didn't warm the bar at all. Because of this issue the restaurant wasn't open at all and we had to sit in the bar, which might look alright in subdued light at night but looks very shabby in the day. The food was nice pub fayre but no better than that. The place feels like a local drinkers pub that hasn't had much money spent on it in recent years and certainly won't be on our list in the future.

Maggie and the staff at The Gardener's Arms were simply, the BEST. They provided the food and space for a recent post funeral light lunch buffet. It was wonderful. Maggie was so attentive and caring, ensuring that everyone was comfortable and served with tea and coffee. The food spread was amazing - and so much of it. Everyone eat well and there was loads of leftovers, which many took home with them (and even more remained). Such tremendous value. Thank you to The Gardener's Arms, who I and the family highly recommend. Stephen Smith

Went here for Sunday lunch to see how it compered to the Marquis of Granby. We had booked a table which was just as well as they were very busy and the two members of staff in the restaurant were running around like mad but looking after everyone really well and smiling !! I had the lamb , hubby the pork and two others beef. We had to wait about 20 minutes but I feel sure this was due to veg being cooked fresh, so well done. This roast dinner is about £4 cheaper than the Marquis but you could tell why. My lamb could have been any meat , like wise the pork. I think it was the rolled variety and then sliced . Sorry if thats a wrong assumption , but I do like my meat from a proper joint . Plenty on the plate and piping hot but I prefer to pay more for better quality.

The staff are all welcoming and friendly.Eating area separate from bar area so not too noisy. Shame there was no veggie option for the Sunday lunch. However I have found a Veggie menu at last. Had a choice of five dishes. Opted for veggie Lasagna which was really tasty although strange to have tomato in it which made it a little too wet. Not too imposing from the outside but worth going in!Expecting a busy Sunday lunch trade, we had booked in advance. The restaurant was somewhat quieter than expected but that meant only a short wait before we were seen to.The tables were clean, cutlery wrapped in napkins was also clean. The general ambience was of a very traditional English Pub.The choices of roast were: Gammon - Beef - Pork - Turkey and Lamb; we had Gammon, Beef and Pork. They came with all the usual trimmings and a choice of sauces to hand. The portions were perfectly adequate with a good selection of nicely prepared vegetables. Puddings - the usual Treacle/Sticky Toffee puddings etc. plus a few others, just as one would expect. The opinion of us all....Very Good - perfectly nice lunch and all for just over £57 for the four of us, including a couple of double G&T's and a coke!We commend the staff for carrying on after their sad loss, please accept our condolences.

I've driven past this pub hundreds of times and have often promised myself I'd call in. With friends visiting today I finally did, at lunchtime. I was not disappointed. Parking is simple in the dedicated car park and you enter to a cosy atmosphere and an imposing but friendly giant of a landlord. There is a big variety of real ales on the pumps plus a good selection of wines. The menu is varied, from snacks and starters to full steak dishes. Ordering was easy and the food appeared, hot and fresh within a very acceptable timescale. Mine was good old bangers and mash, just right for the weather and delicious. My companions had traditional fish 'n' chips (2) and a huge baked potato with prawns in Rose Marie sauce with generous salad. The landlord cleared our table in good time and brought the second round of drinks to us. A very good local dining experience.

We obviously hadn't made a reservation but we were welcomed in and showed to our table by a very polite and efficient waitress. The choice on the menu was fantastic and would have something to suit any pallet, including good vegeterian options. There is also a train attached to the pub which made for a very fun and novelty visit to the restroom! My husband and I recently had Sunday lunch here, because"we had heard good things about it" although hadn't spoken to anyone who had actually eaten there! It was quite busy when we arrived and so we were pleased we had booked a table. The room has a welcoming, old fashioned feel to it. It was a very cold day and although there is a fire at one end,it was a bit chilly in there. The waitress was very pleasant and brought us the menus( which were a bit confusing...some prices on there, some missing and one showing a different price to that shown on the blackboard). There were no starters on offer..I don't know if you could have ordered one from the weekday menu? There was an excellent choice of roast meats(and a steak).I had the beef and my husband, the lamb. Both arrived as large plates of food, with big portions of meat, all piping hot. There was a great selection of vegetables on the plates, which already had gravy on.I would have preferred a jug of gravy separately. The food was very, very nice other than the roast potatoes, which had a musty, twice cooked taste to them and which were a very pale colour, more boiled and then browned than roasted. I had a dessert which was fine though nothing special but my husband was disappointed as although they offer 3 flavours of ice cream, they only in fact had vanilla. The only other disappointment was that the toilets, though very clean, had no hot water in either the ladies or gents which certainly doesn't encourage hand washing and which could be easily rectified by way of a small electric water heater. All in all,a very nice pub, nice staff, good food and all at a good price. We will certainly try eating mid week as the menu looked very inviting.

We celebrated my mother in law's birthday in this lovely pub. The food was great and the service was excellent. They made a huge fuss of us and we all enjoyed ourselves. And last but not least it was brilliant value for money!

stumbled across this pub by accident. Looked nice enough and boasted CAMRA awards, so we gavce it a try.It is very tradtional but very clean, doesn't smell and has fresh flowers. Quite crowded with the older set. Didn't eat in the dining area as we had the Terrier with us but sat in the more comfortable main bar area.Good beer and the Rioja came from a bottle with a cork! Really quite good and far from the industrial crud served in the majority of pubs. Food was tradtional but very good - great range of fresh vegetables properly cooked. We shall return when down that way

Very friendly pub, quirky and full of character, it has a train carriage converted into toilets.... beautiful pub garden, wouldn't hesitate in recommending anyone especially with its traditional homemade pub food. Enormous portions and very reasonably priced.

This pub is one of the best ones you could go to locally, the food is really really nice and the staff are such friendly people. There is nothing I can say I dislike about this pub really worth going and trying

Came on a really hot day and sat inside. Pleasantly cool and not stuffy. My wife and I ordered a burger each. Bar maid was very polite and told us it would be ten minutes or so. For two huge burgers and a coke each we paid as good as £16. Food was lovely. A group over from us ordered the days specials which included a pie which looked amazing! We're not local to this area but we're really impressed with what we stumbled upon.

My fourth visit to this popular venue, as on previous visits the food was cooked to perfection, with a wonderful selection of vegetables, and good starters and sweets. The staff work very hard to ensure great service. If you are looking for a well run pub with great food, brilliant service, warm with a nice atmosphere, look no further.Highly recommended.

Visited this pub on many occasions. The pub is a traditional country pub and a warm welcome is always given by Mick and Maggie. Pub has won the Adur & Arun CAMRA pub of the year for the condition of the Cask Ales, which are rotated on a frequent basis. Food is excelent and good value for money in particular Sunday Lunch. Watch the external board for occasional entertainment. The rear patio area is South facing and this is the place to chill and relax

Not bad little pub tucked away just off the busy A27,the strangest place you'll ever find a railway carriage !.Food was decent enough but nothing to write home about but wouldn't write it off my list of lunch venues.

Friendly staff, good food at reasonable prices and well kept real ales, a real credit to what can be achieved by an independent landlord and staff with hard work and the right attitude. Thoroughly recommend

We haven't been here for a few years, but we're glad we tried it again. Good selection of beers, including Bass which I haven't seen for years. Not a huge menu, just the usual pub food, but everything's really good value and you get a huge plate full of food. The pubs got a great atmosphere- I just wish it was closer to me as it would be a great local.

Website says Shoreham store less busy than usual but service in the cafe was awful! Over half an hour in a queue to order food and drink. Not a single member of staff appearing rushed or hurrying! No apology for people having to wait! On the plus side - easy to find a table as everyone had left by the time we got to the front of the queue!

I recently visited Truffles Bakery, and while I found the food to be enjoyable, the customer service was disappointing. The staff at the till were unfriendly, never offering a smile or warm greeting. Additionally, the seating area staff were rude and disrespectful, which made the overall experience unpleasant. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning.

One of the best pubs in Southwick. What people call a 'proper old fashioned pub'. Small and cosy with an olde world nautical theme. No gaming machines but beautiful coal fires, friendly customers and superb real ales, beers etc at extremely low prices, served by excellent bar staff and Landlord and Lady! 10 out of 10 all round. See you there, perhaps - guaranteed a warm welcome by us olde locals. 🍻😁🍻😁
