The best restaurants serving British food in South East

Yes, the fish was good. I'd seen the photos of the chips, so knew exactly what I was getting and they were edible ... but that's what makes the difference between 5 star and 3 star. Quick and friendly service. Nothing against the place but better and fresher chips would get a higher rating.

This local pub has just re-opened and the new management is putting a lot of effort into this historical pub. It was a very local pub but incredibly welcoming. I am looking forward to returning soon to see the on-going project grow.

Food was good but very small portions fill the box with the curry sauce and fish and then only a few chips for a large portion it was not kids size yes. Unfortunately will travel further a field for better portion size for a cheap price and just as good.

From the moment we stepped into The Crown we were given a lovely warm welcome! We took a table next to a warming fire which was much appreciated due to being -5 outside. Food was fabulous both choosing a main & dessert. Service impeccable. Really relaxed, friendly & nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be visiting again. Fantastic!

Not one to leave bad reviews as I understand everyone has a different opinion and I would much rather leave positive feedback for small business, however here we are… We brought a portion of chips today for £3.20 and whilst I understand prices are going up, that shouldn’t mean portion sizes are going down too. The bag of chips was the smallest portion I have ever brought. What weight that is I don’t know and to be perfectly honest I don’t care. I am comparing them to every other chip shop I have been to in the UK and it is disgusting how much they are charging for the smallest bag of mediocre chips. I took the portion back in to ask how much I had paid for them and complained about the quantity provided which didn’t do me any favours as the three staff members didn’t seem to care or want to rectify but to be fair to them they are probably tired of people complaining about their portion sizes! After purchasing these I have had a look at reviews and there are plenty of other customers complaining about the very same thing, so this isn’t a case of a ‘very hungry’ person writing a review. It’s a shame staff members are too busy being keyboard warriors and being blatantly rude and unprofessional when responding to reviews instead of thinking about the impact they may be having on their business.

First time to this pub as we are exploring the area to potentially live. Staff were welcoming and we stayed for Sunday lunch which was just excellent. We found out it’s 5 weeks into new ownership, and they have clearly done a great job. The regulars and staff made us feel very welcome.

We were meeting friends in the area and they suggested a light lunch at Handleys cafe. We thought it was somewhat cramped and for us not an ideal place to catch up with our friends. The was just about alright but substantially overpriced. Not for us

Nice locally sourced produce and friendly staff. There is a choice between the main menu and the classic menu which you don't see on the website, the pies are amazing.

The afternoon tea was amazing , very tasty and was fresh and good quality , the service was very good and friendly , our server was Deep he was amazing and a lovely man . Will be definitely coming back again 5/5

The food was delicious and substantial for a man who enjoys his food filling portions and friendly attentive service.

Give the Vine a miss. If you do visit make sure you wear warm clothing. You will need it. Total lack of heating at all. Somedays it is warmer outside than inside. London drink prices. IE, Can of Coke £2.40. Crisps £1.40 ETC No food, contrary to the Vines advert. Live music ?????? Never seen it.

Our favourite place to eat. The fish and chips are sublime, with very generous portions, would also recommend the roast dinners. Always had great service, staff are very friendly and helpful . Being dog friendly as well gets a big thumbs up 👍

Staff attitude is absolutely appalling! Will never visit there again. Dawns used to be the only cafe to go to, now it’s the one to definitely not visit. I would not recommend it to any new visitors and to anyone that previously went to Dawns… stay away! Don’t ruin your memories of this place.

Fish cooked fresh to order. Light, crispy batter (not greasy). Nice chippy chips. Excellent customer service. Friendly staff.
