We visited this hotel to meet up with a cousin for a drink and then have dinner with my brother in law and his wife. We parked in the hotel carpark and didn't expect or notice any requirement for parking payment. On entering the hotel, we had to wait about 10 mins before any staff appeared. A bar person then appeared and we ordered drinks. We had a couple of drinks and then dinner for 4. A couple of weeks after our visit I received a Parking Penalty notice demanding £100 or £60 if paid within 14 days of the notice. As there were only 2 days left I paid the fine. Subsequently I contacted the hotel and explained that I had been given a penalty parking fine and they told me to email Parkingeye and ask for a refund. I didn't receive a reply from Parkingeye after 2 further emails, and then on closer reading of the small print on the PCN it stated that there would not be any refunds once the fine had been paid. I then contacted the hotel again and asked them to reimburse me. They refused to do so and again told me to contact Parking eye. So my drinks and meal have cost me £60 more than they should. All of this could have been avoided if the hotel staff either in the bar or the restaurant had checked if I had arrived by car and taken details of my Reg No. It seems as though they are quite happy to have non-residential customers fined for parking. Very poor service. To cap it all the food was mediocre and poor value. Needless to say I won't be going back.

I stood and waited 10 minutes before any staff appeared to show me to table, in that time a large party pushed past me and went to their tables. Ordered Moroccan chicken skewers with salad and fries. The salad was pitiful. A thin slice of tomato, two small strands of peppers and lettuce. Having finished my main course I then sat for 15 mins before anyone asked if I wanted to see dessert menu. Vanilla creme brulle with shortbread biscuit was ordered. I expected some home made shortbread but no, digestive biscuit was on the side of the plate. The bill was a disaster both the main course and the dessert were a higher price on the bill than on the menu and I was charged for a large glass of wine despite ordering a small. It's been a while since I had such a mediocre dining experience.

Booked this on the last Saturday in August with friends for lunch. None of us had been before. On driving in, we were looking forward to our experience as the entrance and buildings are lovely. The restaurant doesn't match this. I ought to have realised when I saw that we were the ONLY people in the entire place at lunchtime on a weekend. There's always a good reason why a restaurant is empty and we found out quickly why. The service was fine but frankly, should have been amazing given we had a private waiter! We had shared rolls with balsamic and olive oil. There was almost a bath of the stuff in bowls so it wasn't easy to dip the rolls. These were nice however and warm. Three of us ordered fish and chips. They ranked right up there with the worst fish and chips we've ever had. Tasteless frozen chips and peas. Fish that was mostly batter and I highly doubt fresh. My friend enjoyed his chicken leek ham pie. It wasn't bad enough to complain about in case the venue is wondering why we didn't. It was just so disappointing for the money that you have to pay these days to eat out, that we would never return and never recommend it. The picture provided here on TA is exactly how it looked except with the four of us on one table so NO atmosphere as you can imagine. When I asked why it was empty, we were told it was the 'time' between when people check out and check in. Clearly the locals know better and avoid it!

Having been invited to a Ruby Wedding party in the Chartwell Room I took a look at Donnington Manor Hotel's website and was very impressed by photos of stylish gardens, a sumptuous and historic dining-room, and delicious-looking food. The guests (38 of us) had been asked to choose three courses from a menu provided in advance, and I chose home-made chicken liver pate with red onion jam and sourdough bread; roasted sirloin of beef served with roast potato, seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and red wine jus, and for pudding apple tarte tatin with vanilla ice-cream. I'm sorry to say that the food was a considerable disappointment: The pate had no discernible flavour so the blob of red onion jam was most welcome, but aside from (delicious-looking) bread rolls served in a basket I don't recall having any sourdough bread. The beef was overcooked and so tough I couldn't cut it, and managed only the softest bits of the two slices (in fairness, my brother, who was seated at another table, enjoyed his beef). Two halves of a small roast potato were hidden under the beef as were some small pieces of boiled carrot and French bean. The red wine jus had all the hallmarks of instant gravy from a jar (glutinous, and with unidentifiable dots in it), and had been poured over everything on the plate. The Yorkshire puddings looked marvellous, but I gave mine to a fellow guest so can't comment on that. The apple tarte tatin was *delicious*!! Sadly it was only about four spoonsful, and the modest scoop of vanilla ice-cream, equally delicious, was almost completely melted by the time I received it. I think there were only three waiters; it's not a surprise that there were long delays in service. The reason I didn't comment on these shortcomings in the food was that I was sitting next to the host, my cousin, and he and his wife chose Donnington Manor because that's where they held their wedding reception, forty years previously.

We went here whilst our Tesla was charging and popped in for some lunch. As a vegan it’s really difficult to eat at places other than a burger or pizza with fake cheese. I had some tomato soup with basil infused oil which was delicious and the lady who Irish serves behind the bar (forgive me I didn’t take her name) was so helpful in helping me choose what I was able to eat. She came out with a small plate that the chef had made and asked us to taste test it. It was incredible! All grown from his own garden. Honestly I can’t tell you how tasty it was. I will definitely be back here even when my car doesn’t need charging!!! Great food and friendly staff.

Charming old Tudor building holds the Charter Restaurant. We were a large tour group that was hungry and parched after a hot morning touring Chartwell House. We were served promptly with a delicious bistro style meal of roast chicken with a potato veggie patty with brown sauce and a side of mixed vegetables. Followed by a light mixed fruit dessert. The restrooms were clean and tidy.

We had drinks/lunch with a group of friends plus children. The restaurant is part of a wonderful half-timber building with beautiful gardens — perfect for a cheeky drink before lunch. We had food inside the restaurant, which has a great mix of character with modern twists. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was excellent. The fish and chips look particularly good, although I personally had the delicious chicken pie. Highly recommended and not too busy ever on a sunny day.

Excellent service along with the excellent roast dinner. Everything about the lunch was perfect with both the pork and beef options presented well, with both meats extremely tender. Had a pina colada as a treat. Two course roast menu is excellent value with two mains for the price of one as we were seated between middy and 1pm. Extremely friendly staff from from the waiters to the management of the restaurant and hotel, who looked after our every need. Would highly recommend. My Husband Steve if difficult to please when it comes to service but he had no complaints at all.

Just had a reunion with friends we haven't seen for a couple of years due to Covid 19. Chose The Chartwell as it was within easy reach for all, hotel parking, a pleasant pre -meal bar and a great menu. All 11 of us thoroughly enjoyed our 2 or 3 course meals from the extensive menu. I had the leek and potato soup, the chicken leek and bacon pie and an assortment of ice cream / sorbet. Looking at all the other well cooked and brilliantly presented dishes I could have easily changed my choices and been equally amazed. What's more our waitress ( I think it was Iris ) was superb. Totally professional, attentive, easy-going and charming, making the occasion one to remember. Well done all at The Chartwell. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant and we will be back. Enjoy.

We visited the Osteria for an early birthday treat for me and we live nearby. The restaurant was empty at 7.45pm other than another couple, 2 other couples came in afterwards. The restaurant has no atmosphere, the lighting is bizarre with different colours of lights throughout and the music was non existent. We ordered the bruschetta and calamari to start and shared between the two of us. The starters were very good and no complaints, however, the main course not so. I ordered the chicken in mushroom sauce - it was pleasant, chicken a bit dry and did have to ask for more of the sauce as there was hardly any. My partners main course was a mission. He ordered the rib eye steak, medium - the first one placed on the table was well over done and not a nice piece of meat. He asked for it to be returned and within a minute there was a new steak on the original plate with again, a well done cooked steak. He asked that it be returned and would just order a pizza instead. The chef insisted on cooking yet another steak as he wanted to ensure he had a good review, when it was delivered it came with just salad, no chips or sauce.......... this one was rare!!! After cutting the steak and seeing it was too rare, the pizza turned up! The chef came out again and my partner explained the steak was underdone this time and would not be eating it. The pizza was great!! Note that this is advertised as an Italian restaurant but no Italian chefs or staff and the menu is not the one you see online it is much more limited. Wine menu limited and overpriced. The waitress couldn't have been more apologetic and of course we didn't pay for the steak meal. We had a drink in the bar after the meal, again no atmosphere. I went to reception to request a taxi and was given a local taxi business card for me to call - lacking customer service for not calling the taxi for us.

Don't expect anything special, but well cooked and presented Italian themed food. Calamari fritti, light and delicate, prawns very good and tasty. My husband chose sea bass and was a little disappointed at the very small size of the only fillet, but OK. I had spaghetti carbonara, very nice and filling. Pannacotta and an apple tart finished the meal. Italian wine Thankfully, no music which seems to blight so many places now. As long as you don't expect too much, you will leave satisfied.

The choice of food was good, but no wine list. But when we asked what red wines they had, the answer was they had none at all either in the restaurant or the bar. Apparently there had been a 'problem with delivery'. Didn't someone see this coming as the stocks ran down? I asked the server why someone hadn't gone to a supermarket during the day with a car to get some. My wife suggested that would have been too easy. For beer there was a choice of three - hardly mindblowing. They offered a choice of three white wines, one very expensive, but again no list or description just the server reeling off the names and mentioning the cost of the expensive one.

Having recently moved into the area, I was curious to try out the Osteria as it looks fabulous when driving past. Information on the website was a bit lacking on what was on offer at lunchtimes, so on the spur of the moment we decided to drop in and find out without booking Saturday lunchtime. We were hoping for Italian food, but found out that the restaurant only serves Afternoon Tea, so we decided to eat in the bar area. The menu is quite limited, but we stuck with it and ordered a tuna baguette, and the kebab. We chose a table in the conservatory area, even though it had not been cleared from the people before us. We moved the cups and glasses to another table. No-one came to take an order so I went to the bar. The barman had very poor English. When I asked for a coffee, he kept asking 'Americano?' - i didn't know what that was, he couldn't explain and so I just repeated 'coffee' and an Americano was what we got (strong black coffee). When he came to lay the table, he didn't wipe the table, one mat was frayed and still stained with tomato ketchup, and he didn't clear the other table (it was still there when we left an hour later). The food took a while to come. It was generally OK - kebabs were a bit cool, but the chips were nice. But there was no attention, no care taken, no atmosphere - we felt ignored for the most part, and as there were only about 6 other people in the place, it wasn't because the staff were too busy. We had hoped that there would be some info on the place and its history, which you would think would be a major selling point for people to visit, but there was very little available and no reference at all to the clear Indian / Asian influence to the gardens, which seemed bizarre. All in all, I wouldn't recommend it - at lunch time any way. Very disappointed.

Great place if you have lots of time to dine! We made a reservation for 7.30 p.m. but the restaurant was nearly empty - 7 other diners when we entered yet, our Starter of a shared plate of Garlic Bread took 40 minutes to arrive, our Mains another 45 minutes. I ordered a Pizza and the clue was that I was presented with a serrated 'steak' knife, even with that, it was difficult to cut through the base - it was so hard I only managed to eat half before my jaws rebelled! The Staff were pleasant and courteous, all the problems reside with the Kitchens, my wife enjoyed her Pasta & Salmon Dish.

The food was poorly presented with bland taste and of Italian origin, was questionable. We had insalate caprese for a first course, the tomato had no flavour, and a minute smear of basil oil. The main course was supposed to be chicken breast on a mushroom and onion sauce ... no flavour and dried up. the rest of the meal continued in this way. The service was good, but there were few diners to challenge. I really do believe that the character of the building would be better supported with traditional british fayre.

Always stay at this hotel when I'm on business on this neck of the woods and the food never disappoints. The service is very good, a little quick sometimes but I suppose it's to be expected when their are not to many people in there. Lovely risotto and prawns. Will be back on my next visit.

Arrived on time but they weren't aware of the booking and weren't ready for opening. Had to wait in reception whilst checking it all , which with a mobility impaired friend was a bit of an issue. Food was of a good standard , beautifully displayed and tasted good. Profiteroles were lacking any cream and chocolate sauce was very sweet and more like from a bottle ?? Not much atmosphere as we were the only people there for half hour , and the staff were busy trying to get organised !! Only 5/10 I'm afraid

We went to a BBQ at the Osteria Italian Restaurant in the Doddington Manor Hotel at Dunton Green Sevenoaks on 31st July. The food was fantastic. king prawns, salmon, chicken, pork, lamb steaks and delicious desserts, as much as you could eat. The service was friendly and efficient. We had a relaxing lunch on the terrace and many trips back and forth to the BBQ. It was a shame that there were not more people there, but that didn't impact on our enjoyment. We will be trying the restaurant soon to see how that compares.

I booked the Cromwell Suite for my Dad’s celebratory 80th birthday luncheon. Nuno understood our needs perfectly and he and his team looked after us very well and ensured the day was a success. We had a pre-agreed menu of three courses and the food was excellent. The staff were attentive without being intrusive and nothing was too much trouble. Everyone enjoyed the day.

My work colleagues and I booked a table for 20 to celebrate various birthdays and new staff joining. The food was all of excellent quality, the staff were extremely efficient and paid us just enough attention. Although we stayed well past closing time we didn't feel as if we had outstayed our welcome, in fact the manager was very charming, and even cured one of our diners' cough! All in all an extremely enjoyable evening and we will definitely return - especially as it is within walking distance of our practice!

Nettes Restaurant in klassisch-britischer Atmosphäre.

Party of 20, Friday night and no slipping of their excellent standards of service or food whether ordering from the set or a la carte menus. The staff are attentive and friendly and more over efficient at what they do. The menu choices have something for everyone with an Italian flavour. Calamari to die for! Steak melting ! Cheese board excellent and yes I and many others did enjoy it what ever we had from either menu. What a great place for a family celebration - even better if you stay at Donnington Manor to complete the experience.

Ate here with colleagues and the ambience is pleasant - oak beams and a cosy feel, but honestly speaking I would drop the pop music. Service was very good, fast and attentive without being intrusive. Wine was ok but highly priced. Starter of calamari delizia was excellent and gave me high expectations. Unfortunately my sea bass was overwhelmed by its sauce and there wasn't much fish at all to be honest. Having said that my colleagues dishes looked really good (pasta, risotto, lamb) and by all accounts were very good, so I think I was unlucky. Most disappointing was dessert - they had run out of cheesecake so I had tiramisu and it was very watery and frankly quite bland. Overall while my meal (except the starter) wasn't the best, I would go again as others enjoyed their meal and I may just have chosen badly.

We decided to try out the Osteria Chartwell for afternoon tea. Unfortunately it was no where near up to standard with other venues we've visited. Two of our party members are fairly plain eaters so we rang up on the morning to ask for some of the sandwiches to be plain but we were clear that only two of the party of seven would require plain sandwiches. Well every single one of the sandwiches was completely plain - not even butter on the bread! There was only a choice of three fillings - ham & cheese, salmon, and tomato & mozzarella - and we were only provided with two small finger sandwiches each!! We asked for more and also asked for the bread to be buttered this time. When they finally arrived, one piece of the bread on each sandwich had been buttered. And on a couple of the sandwiches the bread was stale and hard. You are provided with one scone per person which comes with a small amount of cream and jam already on it. Needless to say these were horribly dry. And the "selection of cakes" was a small slice of cheesecake and chocolate cake each. The setting of the venue is very nice and the staff were friendly enough, but for £17.95 each this was wholly unacceptable. If you're looking for a decent afternoon tea, look elsewhere!

I dined back in January and enjoyed an excellent meal.We shared a starter of fried zucchini which was excellent, nice and crisp and well seasoned. For mains I enjoyed one of my all time favourites that I used to have as a youngster, escalope of veal with spaghetti, this was accompanied by fresh vegetables cooked perfectly as served as they should be 'al dente'.My friend had the swordfish I recall and the presentation was amazing .We were not going to have a dessert but the waitress twisted our arm and we shared a tiramisu which was perfect. All in all an excellent meal, I for one will certainly return. What also made it good was there is plenty of free parking.

The price was extortionate and what was served was basic to say the least. I asked for rare and had clearly medium steak. It was absolutely tiny. What my family ordered seriously looked like it was bought from the supermarket up the road and had red wine mixed in with it to add flavour. If your going to do that then already use "taste the difference" food. It was a shame as my sisters wedding reception at the actual hotel was really good.

Was staying in the hotel, breakfast was included.Service was painfully slow, lots of uncleared tables.Hot breakfast has to be ordered from a menu.My wife and I ordered full English breakfast. All I can say is that it wasn't enough food to keep a sparrow alive. The bacon and sesame were undercooked, I had four small bits of mushroom and a teaspoon of beans.Terrible quality, poor value. This let's the hotel down badly. If your paying go to McDonald's.

Since the recent renovations of the hotel, the restaurant in the 15th century timber framed manor house attached to the hotel complex stands out because of its history - and low beams! The Chartwell Osteria.also stands out because of the new Italian chef and his interesting menus. We ate there for three successive evening meals. All the food was delicious, well cooked and beautifully presented. All the staff were really welcoming and helpful. The two maître d’s, Nuno and Giuseppe, were very attentive and led a well trained team. Sistina was particularly noteworthy. She was quietly efficient and nothing was too much bother. We are looking forward to our next visit.

This restaurant, like the Donnington Manor Hotel, has been completely remodelled and re-opened with new owners. It is highly unusual to go to a three or four star hotel these days and to be able to stay several nights without running out of things you like on the menu. The Osteria is a welcome exception. The cuisine is Italian and both cooked and served by Italians. All the dishes we had were very well cooked and authentic to their roots. They were prepared, we were told, from fresh ingredients with no sight of a cook/chill bag in this kitchen. What we liked was that, in addition to the bar menu at lunchtime, they were happy to offer anything from the main menu as well. I found the pasta dishes were perfect for a lunch here. The waiting staff were attentive without being over fussy and remembered your preferences on subsequest visits. A very pleasant place to eat but sadly rather under used when we were there.

The images portrayed online of a Tudor style building are unfortunately ruined once you enter through the best western hotel entrance! So 1st impressions are not up to standard.the waitress could barely speak English and had some confusion taking our order. She then brought over the wrong wine, in an empty ice bucket! So warm wine in an empty bucket! I'm still bemused by this. The manager had to take over and we explained the problem, he apologized and put the issues right. The food was slow and not fantastic quality for the price and high standard cuisine they seem to represent. Constantly had to get the staff's attention for service. The place has potential, it's just lacking the service and attentiveness to the customer. A long drawn out meal that should have taken half the time, my 4year old was restless by the time the bill eventually arrived. We won't be returning.

Having had a poor experience in the restaurant a year ago we thought we would give it another chance. What a difference, the food was excellent to the point where I could say it was the best mixed grill I have ever had - cooked to perfection. The service and attention was first class. More people in the restaurant would give the restaurant the missing atmosphere but I cannot fault the meal.

Took nearly 45mins for main course to come out, would of kind of excepted that if the restaurant was busy but there was only 3 other table in use with 2 petiole at each of them.Restaurant was cold, they had put some mini electric heaters around the restaurant but it was having no/little impact.Had the chicken pie, well I think it was the chicken, only had a couple of bits of 'meat' in and was tasteless.Should have ordered a takeaway. :(

I’m going to judge the restaurant on the fact four of us used a discount card and had an exceptionally good value meal. Saying that the hotel’s own special offer of a two course meal, starter/main or main/desert for £15.95 wasn't a bad deal for the UK in what appears to be a posh place. An old Tudor house refurbished in the reception and general areas and in the restaurant to some extent but the cling film on the winders told me (And TA’s previous reviews) work was still in progress. A member of staff told me they haven’t had the funding put in place so it looks like hotel guests will on the whole remain dissatisfied with their lot and diners such as myself who are looking for a deal will remain happy. Only two of us had starters, me a seafood salad, quite acceptable although I’m not sure about what was a lot of raw spinach. My wife chose the mozzarella and tomato gateaux with a gazpacho dressing (A thin watery liquid) that was extremely hot and another diner had to leave the restaurant to sort her taste buds out and refused her main course. (I blame her; she should have sent the starter back)Talking of that the lady and another guest who was sat behind me they ordered salmon with a herb crust for their main course. First the man sent his back saying it was under done then the lady asked the man if hers was under cooked too! He thought so and this was her moment to leave the restaurant.Maybe It’s time diners started to order some foods as they like them cooked because, looking at programs such as Master Chef, what is under cooked for one is perfect for another. Pork is another ideal example and many chefs are now cooking this meat pink. Incidentally my wife ordered her salmon well done and it came out perfect for her.Myself and one other chose the pie of the day, steak and mushroom served with mash and buttered vegetables. As sort of expected it was a steak and mushroom casserole in a bowl with a puff pastry lid, I can live with that if I have to. The steak was tough though and needed maybe just 30 to 60 minutes more simmering to get perfection I guess. Almost every piece of steak had fat or gristle attached to it which did affect my enjoyment somewhat but the gravy was fantastic. Vegetables were all fine, cooked but still with some bite.My final party member ordered rump of lamb and vegetables, the latter were fine but the lamb was a bit fatty but cooked well. The piece de resistance was the puddings and two of us went for the assiette of British puddings, a chefs specialty apparently, three small portions of summer fruit, lemon posset and Eton mess, fantastic, I’d go again just for dessert. My wife and one other in our party didn't have desserts.A decent bottle of wine was £16 and although it originally sounded a lot of money being I've lived in Spain for nearly 30 years I was happy to pay that after being ripped off at a Bromley Indian restaurant when I was charged £ 32.00 for a bottle of Italian house wine. (Pino Grigio)Other drinks seemed OK with ½ pint of lemonade at £1.80 and I believe tap water was available if one asked. We retired to the bar for a last drink and got a bit of a shock initially when I was charged £18 something for an apple juice, a small house wine, a pint of lager and a double Drambuie, maybe it’s just me and I’m spoilt in Spain.Anyway that’s my review and hope it helps, will I go back? Absolutely especially with the discount card. I wouldn't, but I could always just not buy a drink and have all my food for half price, the final bill would have only been £45.00 for the four of us.One last thing, staff were very friendly but still very professional and just how I like it.

We wanted to share our lovely experience of Donnington Manor Hotel restaurant last Friday 6th July 2012. It was my birthday dinner, and we wanted to take advantage of the Tastecard offer at the restaurant. The restaurant itself was spotless, had a lovely atmosphere, and the history of this 16th century building provided a lovely ambience for an evening meal. The a la carte menu had a good selection, and was priced very reasonably. The customer service from the restaurant manager, and all his staff was second to none. Very friendly, very attentive, with constant smiles. The food was very well presented and plenty of it. We have promised ourselves to go back at Christmas to enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and setting that this hotel restaurant has to offer.

It was a lovely day for a trip out to a country pub and our daughter fancied the look of this one. I have to say the place has been renoved beautifully, inside and out. Inside was nearly empty - maybe people had already read the online reviews. We didn't really fancy anything on the menu as we only wanted a light lunch like a sandwich and there weren't any listed. The 3 soups didn't sound like they'd be homemade so we all went for the sausage roll with apple sauce. Despite the lack of people, the food took ages to arrive. When it eventually turned up, 2 of the 3 sausage rolls were burnt black. Mine was OK so I started on it. It was very dry and tasteless so I tried the applw sauce but that was thin, sloppy and tasteless. My husband was furious after the long wait and took the food up to the bar to complain saying it was disgusting. The server offered to refund our 3 meals immediately. Avoid this place if you want to eat good food!

Our first visit after the renovation. Much improved without removing features of the beautiful original building. Very busy (it was a Sunday) we enjoyed a small plate from the menu which was good. Tables are a little cramped and on this occasion most customers were accompanied by a dog/s. We like dogs but are not keen on eating with a dog a few inches from our food! (customers with dogs on laps) Would return but would be careful with seating arrangements.
