A family favourite. Consistently good food and a pretty, well designed pub which is great for summer and winter dining. But they do have hit and miss service. We have had several very slow meals and this evening weren’t served a drink for 30 minutes. I had to go to the bar myself for the second round. They still automatically applied the discretionary service charge with no apology for the slow service. Appreciate it has been a long busy summer and hiring good staff is a challenge but equally it isn’t great to take the service charge (and customer goodwill) for granted.

The perfect first dinner in the UK! The aperol spritz mocktail was the best one I’ve ever had and both the beef and chicken roast dinners were super flavorful!! Even my kids ate it all which never happens ! A lovely experience! Also good to note that they are very kid friendly with a playground and high chairs and a great kids menu!

Went on Sunday and had a fantastic roast beef lunch. Came with a huge gravy boat of delicious gravy! Staff all really friendly and attentive. Food arrived quickly, and plenty of it. We ate in the garden which is lovely, and feels nestled away. Highly recommended - we all agreed it was one of the best pubs we’ve visited for food. Our new favourite Sunday roast venue.

A lovely 400 year old pub with nice food and drinks, has the rustic charm of low beam ceilings, uneven floors and traditional fittings. More of a local pub than tourist haunt, the locals bring their dogs and it seems to be a meeting point. Don't expect a extensive menu or large wine list but what the do id of great quality.

Caution! The host is in a good mood, makes jokes and - like the rest of the friendly team - takes great care of his guests. Everything else is perfect in the beautiful pub. For us fans, homemade bread, steak sandwich, salmon steak and a wonderful grilled chicken burger in the garden. Thanks see you next time.

Setting, service, food and drink - especially the local beers - are all splendid. The menu is just the right level of elaborateness for an up-market pub - excellent without being annoyingly pretentious. The staff are charming, and the rest of the clientele are very pleasant - there isn't the slight feeling you get in some pubs that you are intruding on a private local gathering of regulars. The outdoor space is beautiful. The toilets are on the same level as your table. This is not far from being the perfect pub, all the more remarkable as it is just a mile outside the M25, but somehow feels genuinely rural.

I had just taken my daughters dog for a very long and tiring walk and thought I would pop in to the George and Dragon for a drink and light lunch. I sat down at a table that was not reserved in the garden. A young lady approached me and I politely asked if I could order a drink and see the menu. She asked if I had booked I said I hadn’t to which she replied we can serve a drink but not food as we have a lot of bookings today. It was 11.45 and although it was Father’s Day, should this matter! The table was not reserved there were many empty tables and I am one person. I left but felt upset. I did phone them only for the women who answered to raise her voice and speak over me even as I said she had made point very clear. Very uncool isn’t it 2024, have we not moved on. Such a shame it’s a lovely pub but as I never ate or drank , I can’t review the grub!

My family and I visited The George and Dragon in Chipstead for lunch, and it was not a positive experience. We were initially seated at a lovely table for four (we were a party of three), but were soon asked to move and squeeze ourselves into a very small table for two. When we asked if we could stay at the table for four, the manager refused and said they would not serve us any food until we agreed to move. This made us feel discriminated against because we were three people instead of four. The staff was unpleasant, and the service was extremely slow. At one point, we began to wonder if the staff had forgotten about us. When our food finally arrived, the burgers were greasy and not up to the standard of other places in the area. We felt unwelcome and pressured into agreeing to their unreasonable demands. To add insult to injury, a 10% service charge had already been added to our bill. I will never return to this place. If they don't treat customers right, the damage to their reputation will be inevitable.

This is a lovely venue with a nice atmosphere and young friendly staff. However the food is only so so . The chicken liver parfait really needed a sharp contrasting fruity chutney . Of all the chutney in the world, why serve a bland boring pale imitation ? The bread was the best bit sadly ! The squid and chorizo starter was fine but nothing special . As for the mains, the vegetarian dish of Cauliflower was too dry and not nice . The pork belly was ok but again nothing delicious. Soft drinks are often just from a mixer tap ie not in individual glass bottles which is a bit lazy and it would be nicer to have the option .

Gorgeous pub and amazing food. They are offering a slightly limited menu at the moment as the staff/owners have a holiday and a new baby expected, but there are still plenty of choices and everything we ate today (there were 6 of us who each tried a different dish) was delicious. Service was a little slow, but friendly and good enough: this was probably due to the change of staff and did not detract from the meal we had. Very enjoyable, thank you very much!

FANTASTIC MOTHERS DAY MEAL We were greeted with a friendly, warm welcome by the staff on arrival. The pub has a cosy feel, with a beautiful open fire. We all had the 3 course set mother’s day menu. The roast sirloin beef was absolutely delicious. The roast potatoes were cooked to perfection, crispy! Just how I love them! I now know why Sundays are particularly busy. The staff were kind and attentive. The bar staff also make a great espresso martini. After a big build up about Sunday roasts at this pub we arrived with high expectations to our booked table only to be disappointed. They had run out of roast meats and this had then had a knock on to the pork belly option, also not available! We also witnessed others who were so disappointed that they left as soon as they were told no roasts. Which begs the question, who decides how many portions are allocated to bookings and do they need to review the process as they are apparently so well known for a Sunday roast!

One of the very best meals in a pub I’ve ever had - everything I ate was perfect. The seating in the garden is very pleasant and the staff were all very helpful and friendly (although we asked for some water a couple of times and it never arrived). The food is very very good value. The bread and butter was sublime, the mushroom and truffle risotto so creamy and decadent and the Eve’s pudding and custard so comforting and tasty. I would really like to return and try more things from the menu. Soon I hope!

Came here previously with some friends and loved it. However the second time we came back it was very disappointing and over priced. We sat down, then we got asked to move because the lady was worried about the 2 year old having her head knocked. I then ended up moving most of the cutlery over to the table we moved to. We didn’t get offered a drink for around 15 minutes of being seated or given menus or asked, if we wanted a starter. I then had to collect our own menus from the till. (According to manager this didn’t happen, not sure why I would make this up). Lady serving us was friendly enough and staff were too. According to manager there were two people on hand upstairs. There was one lady. Everytime I looked round she was cleaning a table. However we then had items missing on our roasts, no check backs. We had to ask about where our missing food was. We asked for horse radish. One of the waitresses tried to spoon horse radish onto our plate as they were running out. The manager who I spoke to was incredibly rude after I had emailed into say about my experience. Which i have only ever done once in my life. He also said he had tried to ring me but apparently it didn’t go through I had to email again a week later. After receiving the email I had written. He said was confused by what had happened said and it didn’t match up to what his staff had said. Apparently I was wrong about what had happened and that we received our drinks within 4 minutes of being there. Interesting as I had to find someone to ask for some drinks after 15 minutes. So not sure what table received drinks within that time. Apparently I was also wrong about my events of what happened as well. We had two people turn up late which I informed the pub of straight away when I got there. I did have to change an order which properly was not ideal for the pub. The manager then tried to make out that this was the reason for lack of vegetables and missing Yorkshire. He then asked me what I would like to happened and would get back to me and didn’t. If you can’t take on feedback then is there a solution? Manager then tried to tell me that they are struggling at the moment money wise. Which everyone is why we choose to support this pub again. However to spend £145 on a roast and recommend it to friends to then be told you are not correct, his staff are correct and what you have informed him off is wrong. Very poor management and service. Wouldn’t normally write something this long, or spend time doing it, but could not believe the rudeness of the manger. Please look at all my other reviews I have written in the past 3-4 years to see I have never left one like this.

The sunday roast tasted good but the savoy cabbage on the plate let it down - I thought it could've been elevated by being cooked in butter/shredded to add more flavour, rather than being steamed and in one large bland piece. Our food also took about 45 minutes to arrive which was a bit disappointing. I was impressed by the size of the gravy boats - huge!

The food was a delicious and the menu really interesting, but I think we suffered from a case of expectations vs reality. The vibe of the pub is traditional and cosy with a fire place and cute dogs, but the menu didn't quite match up to the hearty pub meal we were hoping for. It aligned more with a refined British restaurant, smaller portions and slightly over priced. Having said all that, the food we did eat was very tasty, special mention to the braised leek dish, which was entirely vegan, but very creamy. The staff were also very attentive and the decor with dark wooden beams was lovely.

It’s a nice pub, and perhaps is better thought of as a place to eat. Been there twice now with good efficient service. There’s a nice small inside space but outside is best. Lots of space, parasols and heaters. Occasionally some headlights from the parallel parking lot intrude but not much. Food is good though won’t blow you away. The usuals have enough to make them unique (the burger especially). The parking lot is small, tight and the small entrance can also be a challenge. Drive if you have to but get there early. The drinks menu is a bit light on the draught side, wine and Prosecco won’t be a problem though.
