Dawn's Delight in Shepway

Staff attitude is absolutely appalling! Will never visit there again. Dawns used to be the only cafe to go to, now it’s the one to definitely not visit. I would not recommend it to any new visitors and to anyone that previously went to Dawns… stay away! Don’t ruin your memories of this place.

1* purely down to the service from the girl serving. From the very first moment she had some kind of attitude I have certainly never experienced in this cafe before and it got continued. Unfortunately this will be the last time I visit this once exceptionally good cafe. To the people that own this cafe, she will lose you money 100% The breakfast itself was good

Not sure if this has been taken over again since Dawn but the staff were shockingly rude and had such a bad attitude. Food was edible but the cafe itself wasn’t the cleanest. Due to the attitude of the staff I wouldn’t return not recommend it to anyone, it has gone downhill since dawn left and I don’t think it will ever be the friendly, community friendly place it was years back. Shame.

Such a friendly and welcoming coffee shop. Good value with a varied choice of breakfasts, toasties, paninis and much more..

Morgan is very polite and friendly , he smiled the whole time we were there which is unusual in most places. Food was delicious , service was fast . Nice relaxing atmosphere Will definitely be going again 😁

We have found this little gem in Cheriton and certainly doesn't disappoint. A varied menu is on offer with everything freshly cooked. Food is plentiful and excellent. Plenty of outside seating so lovely in the summer. New young owner and friendly staff so wishing them every success in 2023.

This was our first visit. Great coffee and breakfast, which was reasonable priced. Staff were friendly. It was an unexpected delight!!

Visited a few days ago, staff where very friendly and inviting. Breakfast was fresh food and tasted lovely, prices also seem very reasonable with today’s prices. Definitely will be coming again

First time I’ve visited and first impression was a very clean cafe! Freshly cooked food, very reasonably priced. Friendly staff. Would definitely return.

I have visited this cafe on a number of occasions and it’s been really nice and friendly. However today I popped over to sit out side with my dog for a cup of tea. I politely asked if it was ok to have a cupper outside to which the lady behind the counter aggressively replied “ok”. I sat outside with the dog and a few minutes later she brought the tea out and I went to hand her a £20 note. Continuing her aggressive stance she said “I can’t change that for a pound!” (If that’s the case fine but I don’t see any reason why you need to be rude about it) I went over to shop to get change and sat down. Whilst there a group of people went in and soon came out. They were talking about the same lady who again had continued with her attitudes saying the card machine was not working but was really rude about it. I heard them say that dawn would never be like that so guessing this is not the owner. As I’m sat here she never even bothered to come out and take the money. Won’t be rushing back which is a shame as food is good!!!

Went to Dawns this lunchtime with my dad. So much choice to choose from, once we finally made our choice the food and service were amazing. Lovely ladies that work there and so friendly and helpful. Worth a visit.

Although the food is good, I asked for something they did not have, they told me Costa had it and I said they had run out. As I was leaving the member of staff said in a rude voice second best are we. This is not the way to speak to customers. I used to order a lot of deliveries from them but will never go there again.

Worst meal I've had there! Cold tomatoes, cold egg and in 45 minutes never observed one member of staff smiling. On balence the first bad meal I've had there. Come back Max all is forgiven!

Visited on Saturday, only for a couple of lattes. No table service, none of the three members of staff were wearing masks. Felt uncomfortable with the delivery guys hovering right next to me. Not going again anytime soon, should not take our low Covid infection rate for granted!

I have been here a lot and always had amazing food, great value and been treated very well. However yesterday I went for breakfast, staff were not welcoming and grumpy. I advised I was allergic to mushrooms. Was assured mushrooms would not be cooked near my food. However when my breakfast came out there was a slice of mushroom mixed in with my tomatoes. I did still enjoy my breakfast but will not be returning anytime soon because of the after effects.

Had a delicious full English breakfast here this morning. Staff friendly and helpful. The place was clean. Didn't have to wait long for breakfast. We would definitely go back again.

Working locally,popped in for a baguette,it was delicious. Been back everyday since as have my colleagues,the three staff members are lovely and make you feel very welcome.

Tried Dawn's Delight for first time today,so impressed with food and what lovely staff,had the monster burger,all i can say is FANTASTIC,i will defo be using again and telling family,friends and colleagues.

Decided to pop into dawns on a whime as we where passing. What a great place. The breakfast baguette was amazing. Clean and tidy with a great selection. Can't wait to be allowed to sit in and try some other items off the menu. Great place will be back.

It’s like a new place ,lovely food,sandwiches,rolls,baguettes displayed in cabinet,all freshly made, footlong hotdogs taste lush. Must say at this point ,what a change in attitude of the staff,all smiley and polite,lovely atmosphere with the two ladies behind the counter and the man doing the cooking, the decor looks beautiful now. Well done you three for keeping it going.

Looks like Dawn's Delight has had a revamp! New management, new menu. Seems a good vibe and the burger was awesome plus the are now on Uber Eats. Great first impression shame its only takeaway for now. I cant wait to try the menu when lock down is lifted

Was going to pop into jacks next door but we’re shut so came here for a Sunday bite to eat. Use to come here when I lived in Cheriton but my god it’s changed. Dirty tables, rude staff who were just plain ignorant with no customer service skills. I wasn’t sure what they had, no chips which is fair enough, no onions as they are fried even though they are offered on the menu, then the girl said £4.95 for the fish finger sandwich and the one serving said actually it’s £3.95.Waited a long time for the food to come which seemed mine was a loaf for a few fish fingers, constantly snooping on us making sure we were hurrying up, every five seconds and rolling their eyes. Very poor restaurant . Avoid at all costs

Perfect just the right breakfast to start the day lovely and clean place with friendly staff and great value to will be back soon. Nice tea as well

Chose Dawn's Delight randomly, for breakfast before our channel crossing. A traditional style 'caf', with ample choice and good, tasty traditional fayre. Chatty, jokey staff and would appear to have a core of local, regular customers. They must be doing something right and would have no reason not to drop in again.

Fast service, sunny day sat outside. The two issues for us was the smoking, and lack of a good sweep up outside. Its a main road at the start of autumn but this stuff was pretty ancient around the door.Reading the reviews, I would say the service was brisk, no "nice" chat. The food came along very fast, and was super. We will return, thank you.

Well Dawns Delight was hardly that. Unfortunatly our usual resturant was closed Beno's so we thought we would give Dawn a try. The place was filthy we had to brush of the renains of food before we even sat down I went to order and it felt like i was intruding a young girl with long white finger nails took our order with no customer skills. No smiles or even a thankyou the tea and coffee was slammed onto our table by the same delightful lady.the food was far from 5 star the best bit was the tea to wash down the rubbish we paid for. When new customers came in the staff seemed to huff as they have to do some work.we could hear the staff swearing between each other. I never nornally do reviews but this experience needed to be told. Spend your money else where the only Delight is for Dawn taking our money.Never again .

Been to Dawn's many times over the years always enjoyed the food. But the service the last few times has been absolutely dreadful. They seem to be more interest in talking to each other then taking orders and when they do take your orders they were miserable grumpy moody there were swearing at my dad today the food was nice but I would never be going back again if they don't like working there they should leave such a shame toxic staff

Although we appreciate Sunday breakfast time is busy, staff didnt even acknowledge customers coming into the cafe, we stood in the queue to order for ages and it was only when we were second from the front that we were told it was going to be a 40 min wait for food. No apology and it felt like we were a not welcome! Qould have been nice to have been told earlier, we decided to leave. The young girl behind the counter was rude, we even heard one customer say he hadn't received some of his order, and the girl shouted whilst walking off that if it wasnt on her ticket then she wasnt doing it! Wouldn't usually complain but the poor service was enough to stop us from even ordering.

Outstanding value for money. Would highly recommend. But book ahead as it fills rather quickly. Delicious.

Miserable and unpolite staff and the food all came out different times with one breakfast missed. Do not recommend and will not be coming back.

The Breakfast kept us going till the evening. Not elegant dining but good sized portions.Open every day but Special's can soon be sold out. Will keep returning.This is a small Cafe and soon fills up with their Regulars. Orders are placed at the counter, paid for and then item brought to the table. Have not seen wheelchairs there but access is possible but ask the staff before entering so a space could be cleared. Not suitable for a motorised chair.

My wife and i ordered a breakfast and was served by a woman with a serious atitude problem.

Seems to have changed hands, and previous friendly welcome absent. Always used to be full and now it's empty. Having made the mistake of going in again, the food is nothing to write home about, but as a previous reviewer noted, the staff openly slag off customers whilst still eating! Also, filthy dirty.

I chose an all day breakfast which arrived well cooked and tasted good. I must compliment the cafe on the excellent type of sausages they provide. The staff are all chatty (a rare skill in Kent!!) and the cafe nicely decorated. The menu is comprehensive and the prices competitive. A pleasant visit.

First impressions were that it was open earlier than stated on a Sunday and already serving customers, clean and tidy, staff friendly and smiley, fast service, very tasty and hot scrambled egg on toast, and our mugs of tea arrived before we'd put bots on seats!!

The quality of that bacon and sausage is very very.....very low. By all means it is cheap in there, but so is a 99p pack of bacon at Tesco's which tastes a lot better.

Just had a lovely home cooked Sunday lunch. Little bit of a wait as was so busy I definitely recommend that you book in advance. The portion sizes are huge and excellent value

Unfortunately chose to eat here when our regular breakfast spot was closed for the day. Genuinely the worst breakfast we've ever had, miserable staff who apparently think they're doing you a favour by taking your order, seemed unhappy to be working there, freezing cold plate, old dry room temperature food, delivered to the table with a grunt, then distain when we pointed out the order wasn't quite right. We experienced the 'Delight' of the actual 'Dawn' when she brought us a second cup of tea & asked for payment, we advised that we'd agreed with the waitress to pay at the end, to which she replied 'really, well I wouldn't have let you start to eat until you've paid', no wonder the service from her staff was a joke & the whole experience was woeful, Dawn obviously leads by example.

I should have looked at the floor before I ordered. It was truly filthy with old sausage and bits of rubbish.

Oh my life, as if the food in this place was not bad enough with it being cold and minute portions in relation to the prices the staff were appalling. I really don't expect to sit waiting for my food while staff are slagging off customers and all while they were in the wrong not the customer. Surely they must have known they could be heard. The staff did seem to have their favourite customers who received preferential treatment such as bigger portions or faster service. God knows how this place got great reviews because it was the worst cafe I have ever been in.

We stopped here to use the loo and had a coffee.The service was fine at the counter.The place seems to be a bit of a social hub.There were reserved signs on a few tables so must be popular with the locals.The menu was varied and had a lot on it.The place could do with a deep clean.

Good solid food, served well and with kindness. Everyone seems to be welcomed by Dawn. We stopped by this weekend and enjoyed filling our tummies.

Nuestra intención era tomar una rápida taza de perno, pero luego terminamos quedándonos una sandwichera porque era tan barato. A juzgar por el número de personas, incluso en un día laborable está claro que este es un centro local de la comunidad donde la gente puede reunirse para tomar una bebida o una comida y no salir con una cartera más ligera. Se proporcionan un par de periódicos para leer mientras disfruta de una bebida. La única pega que podría mejorar es que te darán una grasa saturada (número sólo laminada por un lado! ) para llevar a su mesa. Aparte de este problema es realmente buena relación calidad-precio y el personal es amigable y - t-tierra.

I have tried all the cafes along this road and this is my favourite. The sausages are good quality, everything is well cooked and great value. service is always really friendly.

El hotel que utilizamos al final francés era bastante indiferente - fue el 29 de noviembre, después de todo - espero que todos estábamos cansados y agobiados. De todos modos no cenar la noche anterior, y no querer pagar 2. 50 euros cada uno por una taza de café, diminuto raspado el hielo en el parabrisas y suerte el Eurostar estaba a punto de cruzar el canal. Sedientos, nos convirtió en Folkestone High Street, esperando que en 7. 30 Inglés nos gustaría encontrar un lugar abierto y lugar de DAWN, a nuestro gran delicia! Tuvimos una gran bienvenida, tazas de té humeante, y muy buena, los desayunos muy barato. Dawn es bien delicia - llamado!

Really tasty, hot food served quickly in a friendly environment

La última vez un colega y yo fuimos a través del túnel del Canal paramos para desayunar en una estación de servicio en la M20 y no quedamos impresionados. Esta vez nos paramos en delicia de Amanecer después de haber visto en tripadvisor. El personal...

Estado aquí unas cuantas veces con mi novia. Buen servicio, buenos precios, buena comida. Altamente recomendado para su desayuno y almuerzo.

Just had a breakfast which was very good value for money. The food was well presented and a good variety available. Outside seating made it a very pleasant breakfast in the sun. The were busy but friendly.

Visited today for the third time, good food again,service good,very helpful staff. Have eaten breakfast before, all very nicely cooked. Will definitely be back.

What a busy place! Despite the huge numbers visiting at busy times the staff are always very polite and patient. I admire the way they cope in quite a cramped atmosphere and the service is excellent. Plenty of choices and delicious each time.

Fab for breakfast and lovely for a hefty lunch or early Dinner if you prefer. And an outside cafe area too.

Met two friends here for coffee. The coffee was ok the choice of cakes was terrible. The lady who served me was very polite unfortunately the same cant be said for some of the other staff. A very rude lady came outside and in some very unpleasant language complained about the state some people leave tables In? Won't visit here again

attitude of staff was discusting, order was repeated to staff 3 times and they still got it wrong. will not be returning will carry on using molla's along the road.

I have made Dawn's Delight my regular breakfast destination. It is a very busy cafe/restaurant, but the staff will always tell you how long the food will be, just in case you need to be at work at a certain time. The food is always very fresh, non-fatty and well presented, with the chef always popping out to make sure that everything was alright. The value is exceptional and I would say it is the best in the area for quality of food, cleanliness and friendliness. This is my regular breakfast spot, as there is no comparison locally.

A small cooked breakfast of bacon sausage egg and choice of beans or tomatoes for £2.99. Local produce and fine banter early in the morning. Cup of tea and a free read of the morning papers and then off to work.

I only visited here twice so far but both times a nice experience, we had coffee and cake which was a good price and the staff are friendly, seemed relaxed and popular.

Walk along Cheriton High Street and you'll be hard pushed to find a shop front, restaurant or cafe which looks sparkly new or particularly inviting. But a book should not always be judged by its cover.Such is the case with Dawn's Delight. There's cheap and practical seating outside and the same (but different) inside. It's what some might describe as a classic greasy spoon cafe but this does not do the place justice.This is salt of the earth Britain. This is more than a cafe. It's a meeting place for many in the local community. A chance to escape the pressures and boredom of home life. A chance to catch up with a friend. It's basic inside but the large front windows make the cafe light and warm when the sun shines. Staff are friendly and you'll get a warm welcome. But you're probably keen to know about the fare on offer.They serve very good coffee here. Strong and flavoursome. Plus you'll get reasonable change from two pounds, which is rare these days for a decent cup of caffeine.The food looks pretty good too. The thick toast is very tasty indeed. I can't remember the last time I had toast so good. Add a thin spreading of butter and just delicious.Nice atmosphere in here. No pretensions here. Ordinary folk enjoying conversation in a haven from the cold or drab summer. Would be very happy to visit again.

I called in here as the café I was after was closed. What a good choice as very few of the cafes I visit get 5 stars ..... but this one did. It is clearly popular with locals and could do with being bigger really, but the food was excellent and that is what matters. My all-day large breakfast (for £4.95) was quickly served and well prepared. The two sausages were tasty and had meat in them, the mushrooms and tomatoes were fresh and the bacon and beans well cooked. I had an enjoyable and frosh cup of coffee. The menu was varied and displayed on each table, the staff friendly and efficient and the walls and windows devoid of trashy adverts and general tat. Outside there are many tables and chairs too.

Can't recommend highly enough. Been lots and lots of times and food consistently good and great value for money! Always friendly and welcoming.

Great place to eat!!!. I recommend the shepherds pie. It is a nice place in cheriton well liked and well used and valued. I go there sometimes with my husband when we fancy having a meak out. The staff are good as is the food.

I've had small and large breakfasts here, in there large cappa and they put two coffee shots in which is great as you don't get a latte by default. The other type of food that was being served looked really good and I would definitely always go there for a daytime meal, even driving out of my way as you know it is going to be good. The food was tasty and fresh with presentation being great too. Staff really friendly and it is a well oiled machine, order, pay, eat and go. This definitely cannot be called a greasy spoon.

Have been recently recommended dawns delight by friends and always love a good breakfast. This certainly didn't disappoint, although small and humble surroundings the quality of the food is fantastic.Butcher made sausages (I think the bacon must come from there as well.) Without doubt the best toast I have ever had.I think calling this place a greasy spoon wouldn't do it credit. It does the basics to a high standard. A large breakfast for a fiver with great quality.I would say this is possibly in the top 2 cooked breakfasts I have had and definitely top for value for money.

As I always seem to be in Folkestone in the morning I seem to ferret out good places for breakfast. This wee place on Cheriton High St is great; if I'm rushed, their jammy toast is spot on. If I have time, the portions on their fry-up are epic. And either way it's not expensive. If you go a few times you get to know the women running it and have some banter too. Classic English greasy spoon.

We came here for brunch at the weekend and were really impressed by the portion size and price of the all day breakfasts. I had the regular breakfast which was large and my partner's large breakfast was enormous! The sausages and bacon were clearly good quality and the serving of bubble and squeak was a nice touch. The cafe was busy, but we were served promptly and the staff seemed friendly.

Firstly, in order to manage expectations. In my opinion, this is an 'old school' style cafe. In fairness (as I noticed it has been mentioned in a previous review), it is a little cramped (it's certainly not one of those modern day poncy minimalist places with chairs that you don't know whether to sit on or take to the local art gallery) but I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing because it is so popular, you might struggle to find a table free during busy periods. It is open 7 days a week (Sun. 10am-2pm only), it's excellent value and serves good honest basic cafe style food. I wouldn't class it as a 'greasy spoon' (it is better than that) but they do really good breakfasts which are very popular.I have visited this Cafe a number of times both on my own and with my family (2 Adults, 2 Kids) and I have always found it to be excellent. The staff are pleasant, the service is good, the food is superb value and they do really very good coffee too. We went again this morning and for four of us, including drinks, it was less than £20...did I mention it is excellent value..!?If you are looking for a gourmet food experience, this is not the place to go but if you want a decent breakfast, a sandwich or snack with a drink, you'll be hard pushed to find a better cafe in Folkestone. It does what it says on the tin and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone...and of late, I have often done so.

found the food portions on the small side, not very hot, seating area very crammed together, cant have a private conversation without the next table listening in even though we were practically miming! next tables are withing elbow touching distance, too many people and too much noise of people talking over each other and the kitchen open to all cooking noises, not enjoyable at all, need less seating or put more outside with some heaters in the winter.

Love the hot chocolate and a nice cake . But cakes don't last long so get there before lunch. Nice and friendly atmosphere.

This cafe is simply the best cafe in folkestone full stop. The food is good honest home cooked cuisine large portions, good ingredients and very reasonably priced. The fresh ground coffee is very good too. As for previous reviews on the staff Being miserable I don'tReally understand those comments as I have dined here for the last 3 years and always found the staff and owners to be friendly, welcoming and very kind. Dine here for breakfast, roast dinner on a Sunday or just grab a sandwich and I guarantee you will be impressed.

Visited this cafe and ordered.. There was clearly a simple misunderstanding.. I had ordered a Latte, ordinary coffee & sandwich.. The ordinary coffee was brought to the table & the next thing i realised a member staff came to the table, & in a raised, agressive voice, which made all other customers turn & stare, complained that she had got the order wrong but it was my fault.. This was my second visit but i will never go again & not recommend. It appears you are welcomed if you are a regular &/or a man.. Sorry.. Was very disappointed..

Myself and my Husband visited bank holiday Monday (26th may) we didn't know the area so was a chance we were willing to take. We found the food good. Not the best we've had but wasn't disgusting and worth what we paid. We did think the staff could look at least like they wanted to be there. They didn't really interact with any of their customers and didn't seem to smile very much. The atmosphere seemed rather awkward too. It needs to have a radio for background or something. My Husband and I will not be returning to dawns delights.

We go here once a week and the food is lovely, staff a bit miserable but i dont go there to socialise with them...i go there to eat! Really good fry ups!!

The place lacks atmosphere and the staff always look miserable, not much iinteraction with the customers

I have been doing some work near to this great place. I was taken by a regular customer who I was carrying out some work for to experience their great food. Yesterday I had stew and dumplings one of their special lunches this came with mash and veg all for £4.95!! A fantastic price and great value. They had liver and bacon today!! But I was early so today I had a one of their breakfasts. Non greasy very tasty with local products used. The staff are excellent and every customer is welcomed as if they had been visting for ages. A great place in this busy street. I will go back and would strongly recommend this to others.
