I stay at the Grange Moor Hotel several times a year through business and have always been made to feel very welcome by the very friendly staff, and the comfortable rooms are why I always come back whenever in the area. Last night I had the most fabulous meal of a mushroom risotto which was absolutely the best meal I have had since staying here (although they came pretty close sometimes!). The texture and taste was delicious and I thoroughly recommend a trip here to try it out. Very impressed - John W.

We Have just returned home from one of the worst lunches we have ever had! On arrival we noted a member of the kitchen staff in the entrance road, smoking! And subsequently walking up and down outside smoking, this is totally unacceptable, and horrible to see. Its Christmas Day---- We were expecting a festive welcome, in stead we were shown to our table in the back room right next to the doors to the corridor and toilets! It was cold --- That was just the start-- It felt like an old peoples home-- dreary lighting-- no candles - no festive feel about anything. Then the food came--- A plate of wet frozen prawns on a tiny piece of smoked salmon-- then another 'prawn cocktail'? Main --- a manufactured turkey (so called?) more stuffing in the middle and some thing disgusting wrapped round it? ( Turkey Ballotine??) Whatever is was it was horrible no sign of proper meat) Solid frozen sprouts -- yellowed green beans--- burnt out of the freezer so called 'roast Potatoes' and a half a burnt sausage. Needless to say we all ate very little of that, I ate none. We didn't wait for the pudding ! At £ 68 pp it was a disgrace, the whole thing ruined what should have been a special occasion. We are looking for at least a 50% refund as a result. When I complained To Lawrence, and asked to speak to the Manager, no one could find the Manageress! somebody from the kitchen, said he was 'sort of' the manager chef! and a small foreign lady said she was a 'sort of' manageress!! Both of these people argued with me, The paying guest!!

I went to a party that was held here and so we stayed the night. The hotel is nice from the outside and there is plenty of parking at the back of the hotel. The function room was nice and big. I had a double room which was quite small. It was dated and the bathroom did not feel very clean, but as it was for one night for the party it was fine.

I have been meaning to write this for ages. Back in February we had a group meal at the Grange Moor Hotel. 35 of us sat down for a lovely late Christmas meal. The serving staff brought our food out promptly and efficiently. We were all eating within about 15 minutes of the first plates coming out. The food was lovely. Good sized portions of very nicely cooked meals. 35 of us ate and not one person could fault the food or the staff. A few of us stayed overnight and again there were no complaints at all.I am just about to book again for another group dinner at the venue and can do so confidently knowing it will be a good night out.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. We booked a table for 4 for Sunday carvery and the service was shocking from the start and just got worse. After waiting a considerable amount of time after our starters had been cleared away we had to flag down a waitress to ask if we could go up for the carvery at which we were told that we had to wait. A few minutes later we were told that we were not allowed to go up for dinner becuase a huge table of 16 who had recently arrived were going up first to get their dinner and then we could go up and get what was left..... Needless to say that we were unhappy and about 3 different waitresses seemed clueless as to why we had to wait and so decided to just ignore us. Whilst waiting, another large group was guided to the carvery queue before us. Eventually we were told we could go up and get our food (after the waitress tried to say that she had managed to get us prioritised!!) as you can imagine the best food had gone. This was supposed to be a nice family lunch but instead we were left furious at having to sit and wait while tables who had arrived after us were served first purely because they were spending more money. To be fair to our young waitress, she was well out of her depth and whilst we were asking her for the bill her supervisor walked over and talked over us to tell her she had to go and serve the larger table first. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip and in all honestly we shouldn't have paid at all for the dinner / experience. For the front of house manager - TRAIN YOUR STAFF! And Never make your guests feel like that they are less important than other guests especially when they were there first. One lady who seemed to be the manager on duty did offer us a free drink while we waited but then made such a point of saying she was doing us a favour that it was actually more insulting than anything. You treated me and my family like we didn't matter and that we were an inconvenience - I feel sorry for anyone who books to have dinner with you.

we (a small team of 8) a group of sales persons were informed that the above venue had been chosen for a team meeting/Christmas lunch. With ample parking at the rear of the hotel, and the location in Maidstone away from the town centre this ticked a couple of boxes straight away. the menu that was provided prior to our visit was very good and plenty of variety and as Christmas it was 3 course. Our meeting was held in one of their rooms with plenty of space for screen etc, and undisturbed by the remainder of the restaurant/guests, After the meeting the lunch was served by very polite competent staff, who did not fuss, but at the same time provided answers and anything that was asked from them. i chose the Mackerel Pate with lime pickle, the turkey roast with roast potatoes and accompanying vegetables, followed by cheese board and biscuits. Everything on the lunch was superb, and this was a lunch not a full blown dinner or evening meal so i thought the [portion size very very good. Having never been here before and reading some negative views previously i was holding my judgement, until i had experienced it myself....i definitely would go again if the chance came my way, and we are definitely thinking of using again as a team meeting place.

Portion size was small. You'd be better off going to a Toby. It was just embarrassing. I think for £9.95 for 1 course you could at least have fresh ingredients and a bigger plate, the stuffing balls were not cooked properly and you can tell it's the dry mix, meat was incredibly dry, no gravy so had to wait which meant our like warm lunch was cold by the time we reached the table. The hotel is a bit dated and set in the 70's, but this adds to the charm. Meat cooked nice ( Turkey, beef or pork ) the potatoes were barely cooked, hard and not roasted at all. The carrots were raw, Brussels ( frozen ) were over cooked and mushy. Poor dated rooms, reminded us all of care homes that were in desperate need of a refurb.Told by reception after we had paid that we need to cross and walk down the road to the''actual hotel" (with all luggage and work equip). No assistance offered. Twin room was by far the most atrocious of them all. Certainly not big enough to accommodate two adults. The bathroom was hideous, with half a bath squeezed in and a random chair taking up a third of room. When we asked if we could put one of the adults into a separate room after paying £65 for it (you'd expect to be able to manoeuvre in your room!), they said a flat no. Not without a further £60+! We explained how unfair the situation was and how unhappy we felt, however the manager and proprietor both said no as there were only 'two' available rooms left in the hotel. They were however, happy to give us all a refund, which we most certainly took and promptly moved to another hotel, same price, only about 100 times better (Weald Kent). The owner here is not interested in pleasing customers but only making £££. In turn she lost all 5 of us customers.I stay in hotels all over v regularly for business, and this was probably the worst hotel experience in 15 yrs.

Disaster for us. The young chef was most apologetic explaining that they were very short staffed. I said that I appreciate it wasn't his fault & I wanted to see a manager. I was advised to speak to reception desk which I did however the manager wasn't available & I was asked to send an email. After a while a very kind supervisor came to offer apologies, a free starter & complimentary dessert which we accepted. My main was cold on arrival and I mentioned this to the waiting staff - it had been under the lamp to long in my view - it was exchanged at once and the second meal was hot - I hate cold food. The price is comparable to other places nearby, and the service and food quality is better but I think that the value could be improved here. £62 for 2 adults and two kids inc drinks.Bring your own atmosphere because it's not available here. This is about as far from cosy and intimate that you can get. The dining area is large and the tables arranged in lines making it feel a little like a school hall. We'd go back again probably. I'll let you know.

To be honest it was simply too hot that day to eat much, I ordered a pint of water with ice, a starter and Summer Pudding with pod vanilla ice cream...which was perfect. And it arrived with a perfectly acceptable glass of house red (although if I'd have bothered to read the wine list I'd have seen more by-the-glass options. Doh!)It also arrived with a pleasant disposition. Its a good skill to have when you've been busy all day, are nearing the end of your shift, and are still able to balance 'professional' with 'pleasant'. And even present a lovely smile. At the end of my own long day it was nice to make small-talk with a friendly face.

Not the most romantic of restaurants but the food was of a good standard. Fresh cooked to order at a very reasonable price. Great portion size, excellent deserts and the drinks prices more than reasonable. All round good value not gourmet eating but good honest quality. service was very good indeed.

I've dined at this hotel on&off for >20yrs&never had a bad meal yet, so why look elsewhere? We had good company for the evening, ALL younger than us. As guests arrived (mostly@similar times) bar service&till software went into overload - this eventually improved, but seemed to take management by complete surprise(best laid plans, etc!). The meal, etc&service was superb&tailored to our needs(no jobsworths!). The DJ was very good&the sound system very well adjusted: nice quality&content - better than most discos, with plenty of "dancers" up for it. We did not stay until the 2am finish, but still a very complete evening. Thanks!

We had our first Christmas lunch at the hotel this year; the staff were absolutely fabulous and raised the occasion with their excellent service and Christmas Cheer. To be honest, the main courses were disappointing, possibly reflecting the numbers (this is a very popular Christmas event) and it was a shame they could not have offered the standard of other meals we have had there on other occasions? The starters, vegetables, veggie option and deserts were much better reflecting the individual attention and preparation. They need to rethink the meat, catering trays of pre carved and prepared meats, not so good.On the whole, this was a very enjoyable lunch and we will probably go back next year. A big thank you to the lovely manager and staff working on the dayNot sure whether the hotel owners appreciate how good the staff were, but hopefully this review may prompt some positive feedback?

I stopped in Maidstone on my way to France for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Easy to park and food was way cheaper then in London. Main courses under £10 drinks are cheaper as well. Did not expect a lot for a price but got generous portion as did all the others of solid freshly made food. Service was quick. Cant fault it.

I visited this restaurant for my grandads birthday. I ordered the sausage and caramelised onion baguette. When I received my food it wasn't very warm and the onions weren't caramelised, they were just slightly burnt. I was disappointed with the waitress who served us. She didn't remove our starter cutlery and was side tracked as she was distracted when she was clearing plates and bringing out meals out. You would get better service and food at a college restaurant. I will not be recommending this restaurant and will inform my friends and family about this experience! I will not be returning!

Rooms very tired, but clean. Would I stay here again? No there's a premier inn down the road, half the price and a lot more modern.

We have been here on a function and in all the food was poor, badly presented and unfortunately completely tasteless. A bit fantasy in the kitchen would have enhanced the rather dry pork joints and the presentation could be improved. Sad really as the hotel/restaurant is quite centrally located and ideal for functions.

We took our parents to the Grange Moor Hotel for the mothering Sunday Lunch as we have heard the food there was good there. In fact, it exceeded our expectation! The large restaurant was packed with people but the service was not compromised. There was always waiting staff walking around observing if we needed anything. Our food came very quickly and the quality of the roast beef we ordered was succulent and tasty. The vegetable that came with it complimented it well. My sister's kids was fussed over and nothing too much trouble to make them quiet. My mother was very happy with the treat, good food, good atmosphere and all her children and family around her. Thank you Grange Moor Hotel for making the mothering day so wonderful! We definitely will be back before next mother's day if not many times before that!

A group of us booked a special treat and lunch for our mother's for Mothering Sunday at the Grangemoor Hotel, Maidstone. I feel very strongly that I need to write to express my extreme disappointment and disgust at the entire experience. Firstly, we pre-ordered three lunches as I was advised to do so - however, when we arrived we were told that no meals had been ordered. We had to wait 30 minutes before our orders was actually taken and then when the starters arrived those who ordered pate were served first and those who ordered Prawn salad were served a good 10 minutes later - bearing in mind these starters were cold we would have expected them to all be served at the same time as you would with every course of the meal. The overall standard of food was extremely poor and inadequate for what we were charged. The main meals were served with very overcooked vegetables - the brochilli trees were actually brown and yellow, defiantly not 'al dente' as they should be cooked and served, the entire meal was drenched in gravy and the meat was of a poor quality. I was informed that the beef would be medium rare which I can assure you was very well done and had no taste to it at all. I would say that the desert was the only part of the meal that had any taste to it. The service was appalling and slow - the deserts were actually served before the main plates were cleared which is not acceptable and 45 minutes later they were still on the table along with the rest of the crockery, side plates, empty glasses, empty coffee cups - nothing had been cleared away by the time we left. This is not acceptable. The entire group have worked in the catering industry for many years, my parents ran their own successful outside Catering business for over 40 years ranging from small intimate parties to very large functions with over 150 covers and at no time did we ever serve food at this very poor level - in fact they would never have been allowed to leave the kitchen. This day was meant to be a very special occassion especially being in the industry it was a treat for us to be cooked for and served, however, we all left feeling extremely cheated, let down and disappointed. The hotel and it's food were recommended to us a family member actually had her wedding reception at the hotel some years ago, my family actually travelled from Whitstable and London for the lunch to experience the "team of excellent chefs whose passion can be seen through their food, who source seasonal and local produce to create their menus" and "experience a delicious tasty 3 course lunch" as promoted and advertised on your website! Either this needs to be removed of you actually need to change your team of excellent chefs! When we received the bill we had been actually been charged for a more expensive bottle of rose wine and were actually charged £2.70 for three soda and lime cordial - soda is free and lime cordial is usually around 30 pence. The bill came to just over £200 which was mostly on food as most of us were driving I would expect some sort of compensation for this disappointing experience

Sunday lunch today (albeit part of a group booking) was simply excellent, food well cooked, well presented generous portions and served hot.Traditional meal with homemade soup, followed by choice of roasts and similarly choice of both hot and cold desserts. Used the eating facilitiesat the Grange Moor several times over last four years and has never disappointed but today's excellent and relatively inexpensive.

Went with a group of friends on our Annual New Year Eve celebration. Previously had been to Oakwood House for a number of years but that was subject to a late booking for a Wedding....ho hum...never mind, as it turns out this was far better than Oakwood had been a few weeks earlier.Parking is available on site to the rear and probably advisable to get there early to take advantage of that. The bar staff were/are excellent. Decent range of beers, spirits and wines. Admittedly it can get a tad packed around the bar area but generally speaking OK. The dinner and disco are held through the back bar and area which is very spacious and they do not cram too many bottoms on seats in as some places do. The tables were set out in a convenient manner allowing access around them by the excellent waitresses. The food itself was spot on, although there were a few quibbles about the quality of the pate. Mine was fine although Ido prefer coarse rather than smooth. The timings between courses were very good and the waitresses were very attentive. I had the Pheasant which was excellent, others had steak or chicken or veggie etc. so that gives you an idea of the variety involved Didn't hear that many complaints.Once the food had finished the Disco started and the DJ did a good job of mixing the styles of records for the first 3/4 of the evening, although at the end he degenerated into solidly rock and roll, which was fine but not for that long a period. It would have been nice to have mixed it up a bit.All in all a good evening and thanks to the staff at the hotel and to those who organised it for us!Happy New Year.

Over the past 20 years I have often visited the Grange Moor hotel for an evening meal and found the food to be excellent & the service friendly. I really do not know what has happened recently as on my last two visits I have not enjoyed my meal - on the last occasion not finding anything apetising I decided on Lasagne which was tasteless with only the cheese hot. I ate very little and the waitress made no comment when she collected the hardly touched plate despite my saying that I didn't like it. The menu is unimaginative and does not cater for those who prefer something a little different when eating out. Many people I know also share this opinion.

Today we were invited to an afternoon birthday tea at the Grange Moor. We received a warm welcome and were served by a very pleasant and attentive waitress. The tea was served in a private room, tables laid with crisp white cloths and pretty china. The tea comprised of finger sandwiches of various filling, home made scones real clotted cream, jam and assorted small Danish pastries. Tea and coffee were served on arrival and throught the afternoon. A family member made the birthday cake and the Grange Moor provided a silver cake stand. A big thank you to front of house and behind the scenes staff.

We visited the Grangemoor for the Sunday Carvery Lunch after positive reviews from friends. However the food was very basic and the dining area had the feel and ambience of a retirement home. The sombre environment also seemed to attract those lacking in basic dining etiquette. Although there was a good choice of meats, the quality was substandard and the vegetables were wilted and tasteless. The vegetarian nutroast option was particularly poor; being very dry and offering little flavour. This dish was also delivered before we were invited up to the carvery (to select vegetables) and so was cold.At nearly £16 per head for 3 courses I did not believe this to be good value for money. The chain pubs offer much better quality and atmosphere for the same money or less.

This restaurant serves good quality food, unpretentios, and accommadating. Waiting staff were mature and obliging, bar busy, due to large coach parties. Starters were straight forward, roast dinner excellent and desserts, beautifully presented. All served hot, with a smile, staff looked like they enjoyed working there, and it showed. Would I go back------ maybe, but nothing really stuck in my memory. I would like to find somewhere to eat that WAS memorable. I will keep reading Trip Advisor reviews!

BRILLIANT! We visited once maybe about 20 years ago and were very disappointed, but perhaps because that was because the place was being renovated which spoilt the atmosphere. We decided the time was right to try it again. We had a lovely lunch, our only criticism was the scallop starter which was just 4 very small shellfish with no roes, for £16.00 very nicely cooked etc, but an astronomical charge for such a small dish. I had garlic prawns, far better value for £9. £32 for a main of hake and £28 for lamb two ways. A following pannacotta was superb. Lovely meal at a lovely venue. We're going to stay there come the late nights to see how it turns out as an hotel.

Very busy, very efficient, very varied a menu. I happened upon this eatery by chance and very welcome it was too - the food is well cooked and presented and from a big menu. I especially enjoyed the mushrooms, which were chunky-cut. You can barely find a large and comprehensive breakfast for under a tenner these days, but this place [just about] sells one
