The Running Horse Harvester in Maidstone

Came here over Mother's Day weekend. Nice and clean venue. Staff were brilliant, very attentive. The only issue was the food. Not the taste as we all thought the food was good, but the size of the portions for what you pay needs looking at. To keep customers returning, you need to offer good value for money.

Pleasantly surprised that the main meals were better than expected. Freshly cooked, hot and appetising. Unfortunately the salad bar was slightly depleted and the salad bowls were removed from the cart at 8.30pm. We had our table reservation booked for 8pm, so this meant we could only fit 1 visit to the salad bar, which was fine, however something to bear in mind if dining at later time.

Four of us booked a table for 6pm. Got seated straight away. Waitress was on the ball immediately. Her name was Lucy . 2 of us had a rack of ribs. Delicious they were aswell. Food was hot and quick to arrive. Great menu . Salad bar was good aswell. We downloaded the app and got 25% of. Great value for money. Lucy was very attentive. Great member of staff. We will be back 👍

Delicious food and great service

Went for breakfast, food very tasty and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our server was Vicky who was very efficient and welcoming. Wish more servers in other restaurants were as good as she is.

Terrible experience. Couriers and restaurant do not communicate leaving the customer waiting and then the food was barely warm when arrived. albeit the quality was epic.

Lucy was great tonight. Friendly and helpful when we asked questions! Saturday off so she can go and enjoy a well deserved cider.

Our table was OK but would have preferred a booth type seat so will put that in special requests box on next booking. Sadly the salad bar was pretty decimated when we got there, but a cook quickly came to have a good tidy round and replenish which was good. The drinks menu is fair and I think reasonably priced. They have a refill coke option which for me is more expensive and really don't end up benefiting from it. The food arrived promptly and was hot and well prepared we had a mixture of meals and order some steal which was very well prepared and not full of gristle which surprised us. Overall we had a lovely evening and I feel I got value for my money. Our waitress was a young lady who was incredibly polite, friendly and attentive so I made sure to tip for service thank you sweetheart for making my evening I hope you get recognised. Table 4 under butcher. 7pm

Harvester is the best place to have some good time with your lovely ones. It is also very rustic and quiet. Easy to find, good food, near to the highway.

The lady who served us was very polite and helpful but the evening was let down by some very inadequate food.

Half the order was missing, so still hungry, salad had beetroot all over it and one of our group can’t eat, chips were cold

Massive Maidstone FC game on Saturday, we scored a beautiful 0-0 UP THE STONES!!! harvester sorted us right out, I myself had the BBQ stack which is an orgy of flavours, I needed to give myself some nutrients after a long week supporting my favourite football team so I ate three packed bowls of the free salad they offer. Id recommend the garlic slaw, this tantalising scran sent me back to the days of my youth, I don't know why, it just sounds good Running horse is a lovely gaff with lovely staff a true Kentish haven

Hi, We had a 50% off voucher email and decided to book a table, I mean, who doesn't like saving money! I had rib eye steak and burgers for my wife and daughter. Great food, we cleared our plates, that says it all. We were served by Teresa, what a star, she made us feel very welcome. She made our evening.

Another great visit to our local harvester,the food is always lovely we had the original combo and the dirty burger which came out very quickly. Lucy was our waitress who was very welcoming and cheerful as are all of the staff there. Many thanks will definitely be back!!

Very disappointed with our meals today, chips were dry, chicken skewer was soggy and cold, vegetables were burnt. Salad bar had very little option. And unfriendly staff. Won't be going there again.

Really disappointing with harvester we always book for 14 people so I call to book for 5th April to hear him say I check then hear him speak to someone and heard them say no tell them we are fully booked and heard him say it's half term week not relishing I can here the conversation really disappointing

We had a lovely meal tonight at The Harvester in Maidstone. A special thank you to Harlan our waiter for being so helpful with my picky kids and there meals. It made the meal so much more enjoyable having a lovely waiter

Absolutely shocking food when I was getting salad all the forks was mixed up and I could see into the kitchen and I could see the chef poking and prodding the food with his bare hands. My partner had beans instead of peas there was about 25 peas in with her beans. Lucking we had a free meal but to be honest I wouldn’t feed it to the flies. This was all after not being able to get half the menu as it wasn’t available without being told beforehand then they try charge full price for part of the mixed grill without half of it. Horrid

Good service and friendly staff. Salad bar looked a bit bland with limited choice. Mains good but sides very small. Cobwebs above our table showed lack of cleaning detail.

Decided to call in for lunch. Was exceptionally busy, as half term. We were seated promptly and our drinks order taken. Soon after we were able to give our food order, again this was delivered promptly, fresh and hot. Our waitress Teresa was super friendly, welcoming and very efficient. We chose from the lunch time special menu which was Well worth the money. Will definitely visit again.

Food fell very short of normal standards on this occasion

Took granddaughters for dinner last night. The treacherous crossing from the parking area to restaurant is a concern! Arrived on time for reservation, table wasn't ready and nowhere to really stand and wait. Waited 30 mins and had to remind staff. Once seated told that at least 8 items had run out. Whilst waiting for our order to arrive, we was informed that one of kids meals had now run out and no jacket potatoes so had to reorder! By now we had been in the restaurant for over an hour! When the meal arrived the half roast chicken was the size of a sparrow!!! Other than that the food served was ok. The salad bar is possibly the highlight of Harvester certainly their signature tune so I don't understand why this section isn't kept top notch - empty food trays, messy area, poor presentation and basic products! Empty sauce jugs! It's not difficult to improve this area just needs attention as it's so popular!!! The staff are hard working and lovely but the restaurant is "messy" chaotic and needs so much more care and attention before you feel like you've had a good experience! Do better Harvester!

Over priced and not great food have had better food in weatherspoon

Food was as good as usual that we have come to expect. service was good even though the restaurant was quite busy. Only complaint if we have one is with regards to the salad, the bowls seem to get smaller ever time we go in there and the selection of salad items gets smaller, i except you can return to the cart but trying to fit a portion in tiny bowls just creates a mess on the table and makes it harder to eat.

I was really impressed with the ambience of the setting, how friendly the staff were and the actual food itself.

This place is the pits ,waited for over an hour for food,even Theo we booked a week ago ,and when we gave up on it, we were told it had been bumped ,will not go back to this place again,😡

Our Lady waitress was superb. Could not fault her. In fact she is too good at her job to be at this place. On to the food, The last time we visited this place was in 2010 and it was awful then. Wind on 15 years and it hasn't improved. It was a special day for our friends 75th Birthday. I booked it and am now embarassed that I did. My wife had to send her chicken breast back, not cooked through. Second one came not cooked through. Awful ! My £23 meal the half chicken was tough, the steak was like leather. So for £37 between us not a lot was edible. Our friend whose birthday it was had scampi which was not scampi but mushed up virtually liquid prawn flavour in breadcrumbs which she only ate about 4 of them. I don't know how the others in our party fared but for 3 of us it was a disaster. We will not be visiting another Harvester again. Way over expensive for inferior quality food. I will be writing to the CEO of Harvester in the near future with our concerns about this place and if a Harvester places are like this then heaven forbid. We just hope that we don't have food poisoning after our poor experience this afternoon. A Very Disgruntled Customer.

The food was really good but wish it had come out faster! The salad bar was well kept up, and even though it was busy, the food quality was what you’d expect from a Harvester.

Was nothing whatsoever to complain about . There were 7 of us celebrating my birthday & could not fault anything .

Barely any shredded beef on my burger, disappointing as it was the nicest part of the burger!

Had a lovely breakfast on Friday been many times and all was great service and food but this time I was a bit put of as when I went the pay the waitress put the card machine straight on to the tip page and when I didn't want to she slid the dish towards me to get a tip.this has put me of a bit as you shouldn't be forced to give a tip. All the over times iv been no other staff have asked for a tip.shame really as we love coming for breakfast and had no problems with you staff.

Very good experience here , our server Lucy was excellent , she was so considerate and accommodating re a gf option and was to and fro to the kitchen to check when jacket potatoes would be ready etc ,although restaurant was busy she couldn't have been any more attentive, helpful and efficient . All staff were great, the decor nice , the food tasty , chicken a little dry but still nice . Salad bar had good variety and some lovely choices. Prices very reasonable . First time here , will be back ! Thankyou all

Being served a burnt jacket potato that even the waitress admitted shouldn't have left the kitchen is quite frankly unacceptable. Service was friendly but painfully slow.

First time here since last year's make over. Lovely food and service, and seems much bigger and lighter than before.

Had a nice meal I expected the ribs to come out smothered in sticky bbq sauce but they wasn't, and I had 3 little cubes on my plate what didn't taste of anything when my girlfriend asked what they was she said sweet bread instead of corn on the cob please bring back the corn on the cob,and put sticky sauce on the ribs . We also asked for some mushrooms and got 3 deep fried mushrooms in a dish wasn't impressed, but we will go back nice staff and a nice atmosphere 👍

Very nice, had a Chicken breast with waffles and bacon breakfast with syrup and was very very nice, the service is very friendly and the people are welcoming, definitely recommend the tasty breakfasts!

Had a really lovely meal in here today. Never been to this harvester before but was wowed at how amazing the food was. Food hot and well done, no issues at all. Came out so quickly which was great do no waiting around. It's like a very fine tuned machine in here! Just all the staff are on the ball. Our service was 2nd to none! Josh our sever was on the ball, quick and very efficient and a lovely polite manner! Just so pleasant to come here and will definatly be back again .
