Nice locally sourced produce and friendly staff. There is a choice between the main menu and the classic menu which you don't see on the website, the pies are amazing.

I bought a Gourmet Dining experience voucher for £89.99 from Buy A Gift and decided to use it at this restaurant for a meal to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary, I submitted my voucher to the reservation team who confirmed that they had redeemed it successfully, noted our Anniversary and asked about dietary preferences, When we turned up at the restaurant I was a little disappointed by the plain decor but the menu seemed fine and we were looking forward to our 3 course meal with wine. The server then asked us for a paper copy of the voucher, which had already been redeemed and then told us that we had a credit of £60.52 to spend on our meal from our £89.99 voucher! I asked to see the manager but was told that there was nobody available to fix this system error. The server was smarmy and utterly useless. After 30 minutes, we gave up and went across the road to The White Rabbit, What a difference: lovely atmosphere, superb waiter (Daniel) and thanks to a great recommendation for Gin and Tonics and mains courses, our night out was rescued.

Decided to eat in the hotel on the first night and there was a good choice with both the Classic and Specialties menu, started with a sharing board from the small plates menu and added the Tempura Prawns which were amazing then for main had the Venison Pie which again top quality local produce and finished off with the Tiramisu. When I looked on the website there didn't seem to be that much choice however the menu a the Hotel has a lot more and it has recently changed. The staff were all very freindly.

So, we went there as part of a long awaited break without the kids. The overall reviews and the website, show this to be an upmarket restaurant, serving gourmet style food. After going there, I was really disappointed with the service, menu and quality of food. Our experience was substandard and the steaks were not like those in the pictures. We got there and the building, setting and decor were impressive. However, they let themselves down from the point of passing us the menu. The menu choice was really limited and generally unappealing. We chose the ‘choice’ steak which was a rib eye for main and the cured meat platter to share for starter. The starter : Sour dough, cooked well and tasty, but the meats lacked flavour, the olives and sun blushed tomatoes were nice but the roasted, oiled vegetables again lacked flavour and were drenched in oil. The main : the chips, were overcooked and tasted fatty, they were served with some bland coleslaw and a bit of wilted salad. We asked for our steaks to come out medium/rare and medium. What came out were overcooked and resembled overly well done and well done. Both were tough. There was no offer of steak sauces, we had to ask if we could have peppercorn sauce and were given what tasted like gravy with some peppercorns in. The steaks were NOT worth £26.50 each! The service : we went on a Wednesday and there were hardly any customers. Although the timing of the courses were okay, the same could not be said for the attentiveness for taking away the empty glasses and bottles, which were mounting up. Nor did they offer to have fill ups or further drinks when empty. We had to get their attention and ask for drinks after waiting quite a while. I was hungry so got on with it and finished. I was then asked how was it? Not ideal once you’d already finished. Had I’d been asked earlier I would have sent it back but I couldn’t wait any longer as we had arranged drinks after and didn’t want to be late! The icing on the cake was when the male waiter came over when I had the bill, looked at my choice of payment was card then rolled his eyes, groaned “ugh card” and turned around and went into the kitchen. I did not appreciate automatically adding 10% service charge (which is discretionary)! Assuming that you’re service was good enough to add that was very presumptuous, especially as the party were only paying 2. Overall substandard. There are better restaurants in Lyndhurst.

I really can’t believe we ate in the same restaurant as the other reviewers on here! Our experience was terrible and the steaks were NOTHING like those in the pictures. The food - really limited and unappealing menu so we chose steak. They were small, fatty and poorly cooked. They were served with just a limp salad, a spoonful of slaw and chips. We are not sure if they were or not but the chips could have been oven chips - they certainly tasted like it and were not fully cooked through. The service - as they had a wedding on there was just one young girl trying to do everything in the restaurant. She didn’t seem to be able to handle it and had a stain down the front of her top. We sent one of our steaks back as it was too well done to be told ‘what we were asking for was a blue steak’. We disagreed but went with it. The ‘blue’ steak they brought out was more well done than the first one. The price - our steaks were £26 each so our total bill was over £60. I’d be happy to pay that normally for a meal. But considering this was Wetherspoons quality food and service I feel ripped off.

We were looking forward to the experience at this new forest Hotel that used to be used as a hunting lodge by George IV. Rooms are nice and reception was good, but the restaurant service from the surly F&B manager was appallingly bad....so much so he shouted at a member of staff who through no fault of her own hadn't given us side plates for cheese after we had complained to him about the poor quality and the mis representation of food . He finally admitted that the IOW tomatoes were not from the IOW but only because it was a Sunday!!!!!. Then I was served with buttermilk chicken that was raw KFC, still showing blood spots and cheap undercooked oven chips. Please do not eat here you could get ill.! This joke of a manager should be sacked immediately ,hopefully the general manager will agree.

Terrible experience. Food was in edible and we ended up eating at a restaurant opposite after we left as we were so hungry. Grilled buttermilk chicken was actually fried chicken. After contacting the restaurant the manager blamed our bad experience on ‘government restrictions’ due to covid!!!!! Seems like everyone is using this pandemic as an excuse, even poor food quality! I would like to know how they received their two AA rosettes??!! Or was this from previous ownership or chefs?? Either way they really shouldn’t be displaying them as it is not AA rosette quality. The only good thing we experienced was the wine and ham hock for starter! Definitely would not recommend. The White Rabbit pub opposite is definitely worth a visit instead.

It tasted as good as it looked and the Black Forest desert was one of the best deserts I’ve ever had, it also looked like a piece of artwork!! Thoroughly recommend this restaurant to everyone.

This was a totally unexpected & wonderful surprise as I have not often experienced such fab food at a hotel. Lovely restaurant menu with sufficient choice of meat, fish & veggie. The desserts are to die for especially the fallen apple & also the charred pineapple. We loved the pannage pork & the fish dishes. The chef was happy to alter a sauce to accommodate my allergies too. Lovely wine list. Thoroughly enjoyed the recommended red on one occasion then discovered that they stocked my favourite white on our last evening. I have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to friends that live locally who didn't realise it was open to non residents. A special mention to Laura, Heather & Jack who made both of our evenings extra special.

I booked a table for 2 on Saturday night, this was the day we were travelling down to the area. On our way to Lyndhurst I received a phone call from the restaurant telling me that they had a wedding party in and would we be OK with the noise. We had no problem and kept the booking. Partly because I didn’t know the area and we were arriving late Saturday afternoon. We arrived 10 minutes before our booking and was told by the hotel front desk that we were early. We were then told where the restaurant entrance was and told someone would meet us Walking into an empty room I noticed on the side the guest list for Dinner with only my name on it. The waitress appeared a few minutes later and asked the name on the booking, I laughed and said it’s the only one on there, bless her she highlighted it through for checking in. If they had just said that there was only the 2 of us booked in I would have made alternative arrangements. It was very embarrassing, we had 1 course paid the bill and left feeling very disappointed

Dined in this restaurant as I was on a package that included dinner and the food was fine, the service a bit slow at times and it wasn't busy while I was there. Warning. This establishment attaches a ten percent service charge automatically which for non-party diners I believe is a bit of an insult really and I don't agree with it. The trouble is some folks may feel a bit shy at requesting its removal so some will end up paying it even if they don't feel it is justified. Like so many things these days, its just another way of trying to extract more money from people but if an establishment is seeking renown for quality, this does not give the right message.

I am confused by the average review of the Glasshouse and at first had to check we had eaten in the same restaurant, the head chef must have had a night off when we visited! We had had a long day out and about, so decided to have some comfort food - fish and chips - with my young daughter having chicken and veg. Firstly the fish and chips - the fish was possibly the greasiest thing I have ever eaten and the size of Nemo, I thought they had got the order mixed up and this was a child portion. The chips we straight out of the freezer and undercooked, and the peas were cooked to within an inch of their life. Very poor for the extortionate price! The chicken breast was cooked lovely but the chef had over seasoned it for an adult never mind a child - my mouth felt like I had swallowed a cup of sea water, the new potatoes fell apart due to over cooking and the freezer veg even for a child portion was non existent.I was looking forward to our meal at the Glasshouse and it was the main reason we had decided to stay at the Forest Lodge, rather than elsewhere, how disappointed we were!

We both had the Duo of Lamb which was cooked to perfection. That said you don't get asked how you like your meat cooked, it comes as it comes. The meal was pleasantly presented on the plate, however, the vegetable portions will hardly count towards your five a day although I suppose you can always order extra portions as side dishes at additional cost.Overall a very enjoyable evening and a restaurant very much on the must go back to list.

My friend and I do afternoon tea around the south west frequently so I decided to treat her for her 25th birthday to afternoon tea and prosecco at the "glasshouse restaurant" in lyndhurst. Firstly we were not seated in a restaurant, but a bar. We didn't grumble as it was still pleasant however not what I had booked. The bread was hard and the sandwiches were not what you'd expect for afternoon tea (one was ham and what I can only describe as burger relish) another sandwich had a piece of cut up cucumber and a piece of cut up tomato, and don't even get me started on the one that had black dots on what I think was salmon! The cake squares were not pleasant at all .. I think we nibbled on 1 out of a selection of about 4 or 5. We didn't touch the prosecco as it was as flat as a pancake.I must say the scones were lovely and the coffee was rather nice aswell!Overall we left the majority of what was presented to us as it just wasn't satisfactory and and ended up still having to pay £14.99 each for scones and coffee. (A bit pricey if you ask me.)

I visited the Glasshouse this evening with my wife and parents and I must say that we were all very impressed. The restaurant area was nicely laid out and beautifully decorated. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was a little fancy (fine dining), which is not always to my taste, but there was such an extensive menu it was hard not to find something I liked on there. Out of our party of four, we all ordered different starters and different mains, so I was able to see a good selection from their menu. The only criticism I could possibly make was that there were a couple of bones in my fish main, so it was a little embarrassing trying to pick them out as I could not swallow them. All in all though apart from the bones, the food was excellent and superbly presented. We finished off with a pudding each, which I think we all struggled to finish.I would like to thank the Glasshouse for the meal and service this evening. I would say that the food was a little bit pricey, but we must remember that this is a hotel restaurant and for the type of food and the ambiance of the restaurant, you kind of expect to have to pay a little extra. All in all we were very impressed. I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are looking for something a little different and something special (without paying Limewood/Chewton Glen prices)

We stayed at The Forest Lodge with friends a few years ago and enjoyed two excellent dinners at their Glasshouse Restaurant. This New Year we were staying elsewhere in Lyndhurst with other friends and suggested visiting The Glasshouse on the evening of New Year’s Day. I telephoned to check that the restaurant would be open and was told that it would. I then made a booking for 8 of us on the restaurant website and duly received confirmation of this. When we arrived after a half mile walk on a cold and damp evening we were told that we could eat in the restaurant but that we would be the only customers there but that we could have exactly the same menu in the hotel dining room to which we agreed. We were then presented with a table d’hote menu which was three courses plus an amuse bouche. This was nothing like the menu from the Restaurant but by this time it was not a practical option to leave and try to find somewhere else for the 8 of us to dine. The food turned out to be nothing like the quality we had promised our friends and the ambience was nothing like that of the Restaurant. We were very disappointed with the entire experience. There had been no prices on the menus but when I went to pay the bill the different courses were priced separately. Adding the three courses together gave a cost of £30 per person and at that point I remembered that my confirmation indicated a price of £25. I was told that this was a special meal for New Year’s day with an extra course. I have never been charged for an amuse bouche, there was no indication of this on the menu and indeed it was not priced separately on the bill. After I had produced a copy of the booking confirmation and the duty manager had been called the bill was reduced to £25 but no apology was offered and I was left feeling that I had been the one at fault. I was left with the feeling that the staff simply say the first things to come into their heads and see no distinction between dining in what is reputed to be a fine restaurant and simply eating in an hotel dining room. Our experience was not what we booked and we will not be returning.

Well this was our first and last time at the Glasshouse. After a superb starter of quail 3 ways, it all went down hill. My main course of rump steak was so disappointing. The chips tasted of old oil and were not crispy and the watercress on the side should have been thrown away about 3 days earlier!! I mentioned this to the waiter when he cleared the tables, he said he would pass comments back to the chef, but I heard nothing. When I went to reception to pay the bill, the waiter appeared and I asked what comment the chef had made, to be told "it didn't leave the kitchen like that". I found this to be an insult to my intelligence. Also FYI we had a voucher for lunch/dinner which you need to know does not usually cover any drinks!! Sunday lunch with covers for about 30 or more people and only 4 people in the restaurant probably says it all!!

I visited the Glasshouse with my girlfriend in October. We decided on the glasshouse on the last day of our holiday, because of the menu, setting and good reviews. We booked over the phone the previous day and no mention of any potential issues. However, when we arrived, we were told we were not sitting in the Glasshouse, but a dining room in the hotel. This was due to a few bookings made by hotel guests. So it seems outside customers, paying full price, are considered second class. We were sat in an area full of families, with young children and whilst they were v.well behaved it wasn't the atmosphere we were expecting. The food (steak and lamb mains) was on par far the type of restaurant it is classed as, but nothing noteworthy. Most of the waiter staff seemed very young and in experienced, while one man (manager?) ran around taking orders and the receptionist helped when the room was too busy. Service was slow although it didn't bother us too much.In summary: ok food, but poor atmosphere and disappointing service.

An interesting and refreshingly different menu in what could be great surroundings just misses being very special. It was our first visit here and we met family on a Tuesday evening with no expectations. I had not realised that the restaurant was part of a Best Western hotel complex but on arrival we were greeted politely and the cocktail bar and Glasshouse restaurant looked inviting, albeit empty of guests. The staff ware smartly dressed and were very attentive but at times one was a little too attentive making us feel in a hurry. The restaurant area is very well laid out, spacious, discretely lit and well appointed with the tables laid to a high standard. It was good to sit at a table with ample room for all the usual dining paraphernalia. The menu contained many tempting and unusual offerings and I found it hard to chose between the wood pigeon and the fish cakes as a starter. For the less adventurous the menu also contained the usual staple dishes of steaks, fish, bangers and mash and burgers. While we considered the menu we were offered an appetiser of vegetable spring rolls with a sweet chill dip. It was delicious. The bread basket offered a good selection of very tasty warm and fresh bread rolls. My salmon fish cake starter was served with a salad dressing and sauce, beautifully presented and was tasty. My main course was the neck of lamb and came served on a large square glass plate with the components of the meal beautifully laid out on display. The lamb was delicious as were the accompanying vegetables. The portions were refreshingly not oversized but the food was delicately flavoured and I found very filling. I excused myself from desert although my companions all raved about the low calorie sorbets that they ordered. The coffee was hot and strong and we drank a good Pinot Grigio from their comprehensive but reasonably priced wine list. The price including our cocktails and a decent tip was under £50 a head which I thought was very good value for the standard of the food, service and the surroundings. If there is a criticism it would be that for most of our meal we were the only diners. Others arrived later in the evening but it must be hard to create an atmosphere when there are so few people. However, it was a Tuesday evening! The menu, I believe suffers from an identity crisis. Is it Fine Dining or casual Dining? Either would work in my view but they do need to decide what they want to be.

I was very disappointed when going into the Glasshouse restaurant as a few years back Iremember reading it was advertised as fine dining with a no children under the age of 12 policy. Not anymore. Children and babies, some in high chairs screaming and some running around were evident most nights. One evening I found a long dark hair in my main meal. The head waiter Jean said he thought it could be from one of the waitresses. As for the waitresses one was always giggling when serving us and laughed when she split juice off a slate board (much prefer bowls) that had a dessert on it. She also looked as if she had been dragged through a hedge backwards.Sweets were not always what they were advertised.Chocolate Sunday? Well at The Glasshouse you get a drinking glass, yes a drinking glass on its side on a slate board with foam coming out of it with tiny pieces of chocolate brownie and marshmellows. Ridiculous or what?Chocolate & orange sponge, - no sponge and no evidence of anything on the orange front, just a chocolate tart.On another occasion the cheeseboard was short of the advertised celery.Jean the Head waiter was very attentive and some meals were very good but overall at the price of getting on for a £100 for a meal & wine for two (note there are some supplements) all the above leaves a lot to be desired.

The food was delicious and beautifully presented and there was an excellent wine list. The menu was extensive with daily specials as well. The room was beautiful and the staff were excellent. As we were staying at the hotel we ate in the restaurant every evening for a week and had no problem choosing something new to eat every time. We didn't have a disappointing meal. We are home and missing the food already!

Stopped off after a day by the coast and did not expect such a genuine welcome and intuitive line of communication from the staff member who seated us. Very spacious dining room and continued staff rappor throughout the meal. The food was excellent and I am being slightly picky in noting that a bigger appetite may have been a little doubting on main course accompaniment portions. Certainly worth a visit and if they can stop that kitchen entrance door clanging and banging every time it is opened they will get a fifth star on my next visit.

A Travelzoo offer persuaded us to try this restaurant for the first time, despite having lived in the area for years! We only wished we'd found it sooner - it's a gem of a place.Lovely food, well presented and with some interesting combinations. Good service but not ott in manner or attitude. No one trying to be what they're palpably not or to over impress (unlike some other local restaurants/hotels that shall remain nameless),

We had dinner in this restaurant on Saturday 29/03/14. The food was very good and the flavours lovely. The waitresses were very friendly and attentive.I cannot, however, give an excellent rating because the food was extremely expensive and the flower on the table was plastic. This made the table look naff. Please use fresh flowers or none at all. I would definitely re-visit if I had another TravelZooovoucher.

We ate here as a Travelzoo deal so it was very good value but for a special occasion I would happily pay the full price. The four of us had a variety of dishes over three courses and all were beautifully presented and very tasty. Considering it attracted a £3.50 supplement, the lamb dish looked a little small but other portions were good. Staff were pleasant, attentive without being obtrusive. Will certainly go back.

Very nice food and premises. The menu is not very extensive, but there is something for everyone. It is cooked to a very high standard and presented beautifully. The portions are well balanced for a 3-course meal. My venison was cooked to perfection and my husband could not find any faults with his duck. They catered for my special dietary requirements without any hesitation. I loved the decoration and furnishing of the dining room. The room had a nicely cosy and warm feel even on a cold evening. The service was efficient and nice, but a bit stiff at times. When we visited it was a very quiet night. We would go back to The Glasshouse again, but for a special occasion rather than a mid-week meal.

We use this hotel restaurant fairly regular for lunch as it is pitched roughly between us and freinds who travel up from Dorset. The hotel has the advantage that it is just north and outside of the town so if you travel on the M27 you don't need to go around Lyndhurst's one way system, which can cause long delays. There is extensive and ample parking. The restaurant and bar areas are normally quiet when we go. What we like is that we're never chased off a table and yesterday were there well past 16.00 when we sat down at 13.00.Staff are friendly and the service good.Food choice is limited but the quality is acceptable.I can think of no reason why you shouldn't give it a try.

We recently stayed at The Forest Lodge Hotel and decided to try The Glasshouse restaurant on our first evening as it is within the hotel. Everything about our evening was worthy of praise, the staff, the food, the attention to detail. The staff were extremely courteous, polite and not intrusive. The food was some of the best we have ever tasted, beautifully presented and portion size was perfect for our liking. Having just returned from a cruise when we experienced food of the highest quality, this restaurant experience rated very highly indeed. We had three courses and a bottle of wine and found it to be very good value for money. If we were in this area again we would certainly consider a return visit.

I was treated to a 30th Birthday treat... a weekend break with my partner at the Forest Lodge Hotel which included dinner at the Glasshouse restaurant. What can I say?! We were simply not expecting the standard of food, wine and service to be what it is... quite outstanding. It is in receipt of two AA rosettes for culinary excellence... the only hotel in this group of four to have two rosettes, all of the others have just one. The restaurant is lit extremely well, with candles and uplights providing enough light to see what you are eating but also makes the restaurant feel extremely cosy and romantic. As we were guests at the hotel we were able to choose from their 3-course set menu, with the ability to swap dishes from the A La Carte should we wish. Everything is cooked from fresh, meat is locally sourced, their herbs are sourced from their own herb garden and the presentation (including their amazing crockery!) is stunning. I do not have enough words to praise this place. To eat just at the restaurant will set you back... starters are around £6-9, mains anywhere from £15-28 and desserts again around £6-9. Bottles of wine range from £19-100's! It worked out that a 3-course set dinner as part of a hotel package costs only £20 per person, per night extra. An UNBELIEVABLE deal. Even paying full price, the food and service is worth absolutely every single penny. I would strongly, strongly recommend that anyone looking for a break in the New Forest, who adores incredible food, give this place a try. We are looking at when we can go back already...

This is becoming a bit of a habit: another great evening out at the Glasshouse restaurant.Upon our early arrival we had a relaxing drink in the hotel bar and were discreetly told our table was ready at the time of our booking. That's a nice touch that helps to stop the evening becoming a late one.We decided to skip the table d'hôte menu and choose from the á la carte menu instead. There was good variety and we settled on the lamb and beef dishes, complimented by a nice glass of Malbec. Presentation was of an extremely high quality, and it goes without saying that the food tasted sublime.Dessert was also from the á la carte menu (although it's possible to choose from the table d'hôte menu should you prefer something from there) and was also up to a very high standard. The service was, as in every visit we've made previously, impeccable from Jean and Evelina - unobtrusive yet attentive. Some other restaurants would do well to send their staff here to demonstrate the level of service they should be providing. This is definitely one of our favourite restaurants in the New Forest area; we will return for as long as the experience is good as last night.

Our friends booked a table for a Saturday night. They had the same trouble as the reviewer below. Rang several times over a few days before they could get an answer, which is a bit strange considering this is. an hotel, surely someone could pick up the phone. We visited many years ago when it first opened and thoroughly enjoyed every course and were really looking forward to it. However, we felt on this occassion it did not live up to our memories of it. Food was very overpriced, and not very exciting. Service was good. Restaurant decor is nice but would benefit from a few more peope, only 8 on the night we were there. We eat out quite reguarly at good restaurante but would not recommend this to anyone.

When looking for somewhere to go for Sunday lunch we looked on the internet and found the Glass House, being as this was a central position for our party in terms of travelling it seemed like a good option. The website looks good and the sample menu was inviting, so the first hurdal was to book, rang 4 or 5 times over a period of days at different times and no one picked the phone up, so eventualy left a message with our resivation asking it to be confirmed, which they did. When we arrived for our 1.00pm booking the hotel was very quiet and the restaurant empty with only a few tables laid up. I have to say the service was ok, it was not outstanding but it was fine. we had pre dinner drinks and then proceeded to the restaurant which had another table of 4 already seated. The menu was very dissapointing and it probably could only be described as cheep, I did not take notes but the starters from memory was a soup with blue cheese, a smoked fish dish, Ham hock and chicken terrine. the starters looked ok although the ham hock and chicken terrine had almost no chicken in it and the ham hock had not been cooked enough before being made into the terrine so was a little tough but the pear chutney was excellent. The main course menu as a menu was a desaster Breast of lamb, (Cheep and very fatty) Salmon which is ok, Rissoto for the vegitariens and Pork Belly ( another cheep cut of meat and very fatty) The vegetables were over cooked the roast potatoes had been held in the oven to long and were difficult to cut, and to be fair for a 2 rosette restaurant they should be ashamed of themselves. The desserts looked ok the sticky toffee pudding by all accounts was nice as was the rice pudding which was advertised made with cream, not sure it had any and the cheese board which was very disapointing 4 tiny pieces of cheese and the same pear chutney as the starter. In short what had the makings of being an excellent sunday lunch was well below par, the web site and the advertising drew us in and they failed to deliver.Very poor, would not recomend this to anyone, maybe they had their work cut out with one of us being a chef for over thirty years, 2 restaurantiers and 1 in quality control. but at the end of the day you can either produce the goods that you advertise or you don`tYou quite clearly could not

This restaurant is part of the Forest Lodge Hotel, a short distance from the centre of Lyndhurst. We ate there on the evening of New Year's Day when the menu was a bit limited but reasonably priced for an "up-market" restaurant. The food was well prepared (I had the haddock which was very fresh and tasty) and service was first class (formal but not stuffy). However, I felt that the wine list was a bit expensive and the bar where coffee was available after the meal was a very bland room, lacking in atmosphere.

We were staying at the Forest Lodge Hotel and booked this attached restaurant for a special meal out as it was my husband's birthday. Although the setting was not that special as it has no outlook and is just a fairly ordinary room attached to the hotel the menu looked interesting. The food was very good - we had carpaccio of deer which was served with a beetroot and raspberry sauce which was amazing! The main courses were also imaginative and beautifully presented and the staff were attentive. The portions were not huge but were competively priced for the standard. We have eaten in some very good restaurants over the years and this is definitely at the top of our list food-wise. The only thing that spoiled the evening was that the restaurant is open to hotel residents obviously and when we arrived at 8.30 pm it was full of children. I have children of my own but do not expect to eat in a restaurant of this quality and have a small child in a high chair wailing its head off throughout the meal and two others running around the room. Once these people had left another couple arrived at 9.15 pm with another child of similar age. The hotel has an alternative restaurant and does high tea and I would expect that children under a certain age should not be allowed in The Glasshouse after 8pm - that is a standard rule in a lot of high class restaurants and it The Glasshouse wants to attract non-residents then they need to keep small children out!

The Glasshouse had really nice and modern decor. The food was delicious and well-presented and the menu was varied. My husband and I were dining there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and really enjoyed our meal, however the evening was completely let down by the quality of service. Service was very slow, despite the restaurant only being half full and we never received the vegetables we ordered to accompany our main course. We additionally asked for extra bread, however it never appeared. The restaurant was very smart, however the atmosphere was marred by the number of small children allowed to run amok round the dining area at around 9pm. Whilst I acknowledge their parents responsibility to calm them down, the staff at the restaurant did nothing to control the situation, ruining the overall atmosphere in the restaurant.

Visited the Glass House based on previous reviews which were on the whole complimentary. Their website does not mention that the restaurant is attached to a Best Western Hotel and it does have a hotel restaurant feel about it. The Staff are friendly but the dining experience is quite formal. Was expecting more from the menu, I had a frugal starter of 3 small scallops on pasta with steak and chips main, unfortunately that’s what it was ‘steak and chips’, well-cooked but no twist or sparkle to the meal as I was maybe, wrongly expecting. My partner had the duck starter which had good flavours and the lamb and potato main, again it was just ‘lamb and potato’ nothing to make this food stand out. I certainly wouldn’t call this fine dining with the mains more akin to a Sunday lunch at the pub, but with a bit of imagination and flair it may get there.

The Glasshouse Restaurant is attached to the excellent Forest Lodge hotel. We went there as hotel guests but would certainly recommend it to non-residents too. It's just a very short walk out of Lyndhurst Town Centre, and worth the amble. I had one of the best steaks I've ever eaten there and the vegetables were also absolutely perfectly cooked. Highly recommended.

Having won a voucher at a charity raffle, we decided to use it for our anniversary tonight. Here is my verdict:1) Generally, the food was fresh and locally sourced;2) The cooking techniques seemed basic and lack innovation;3) The balance of ingredients were good;4) No technical skills found in the chosen meals (or the rest on the the menu);5) Poor judgement in the preparation of food...e.g. I asked the scallops to be "cooked through", but they were still translucent. It was an okay meal, perfectly edible, but I have eaten at bistros with similiar meals. The place was cold, both in ambience and in temperature. One family had to get their jackets halfway through their meal! Only 5 tables were occupied this evening, there was definately an "empty" feeling about this restaurant...it needs life! The whole meal came to over £90 and would I go again? NO!

Chose this restaurant as an anniversary destination, found it through an internet search of recommended places to go. From the website it looked a lovely location, beautiful restaurant and overall an ideal place to take my wife. The problem started as we walked in, I guess I'm just used to general courtesy but there was no smiling face to greet us or 'welcome'. We were the only people in the restaurant but still we were seated overlooking the fantastic view of the car park. Delightful. The food was ok, very expensive for what it was and again the service lacked any warmth or politeness.Avoid like the plague. Sufficed to say I left no tip. For £75 I would have expected a LOT better.

Firstly it helps to know that this restaurant is part of a hotel to avoid a detour which involves cattle grids (not great if walking!) The service was very attentive, the food was really tasty. If they recommend ordering extra veg take the hint. Overall i would definitely recommend this restaurant, although if youre looking for domewhere lively or informal this isnt for you - but this could have been to do with the fact we visited on a week night.

We had booked the resturant for a special birthday meal with friends after finding it on the internet. We hadn't realised the resturant was attached to a hotel, this wasn't a negative but just a suprise.I should just mention we are all very interested in food and eat out regularly which means we are particularly tough critics and we had high expectations for the glass house. The bar area was lovely, we sat relaxed and had our orders taken, we were then taken through to the resturant when our food was ready, the resturant was nice, modern and intimate. We couldn't fault the service they were attentive and efficient. The menu and presentation hightens your expectations of the food but we didn't feel it delivered on flavour. This is mitchelin star style food which doesn't quite hit the mark. The scallop starter was very disappointing, which was 3 small scallops (I call them supermarket size) on a slate. We all enjoyed our mains particularly the venison which was perfectly cooked, To finish our meal we all had a liquor coffee unfortunately one was mixed which we sent back and they changed it without hessitation but really it shouldn't of come to the table like that.Overall our impression was good but not amazing but as I said we are hard to please

Truly awful - and no suitable toilets. The food we were served was below average, the coffees were unfortunately not good at all. The service from the woman running the cafe was disgraceful. She seemed off from the outset, and was downright rude in the end after one of our group was reduced to tears by her behaviour. Most importantly the toilet was not suitable for visitors to use, you have to squeeze through the kitchen which is open to the seating area to get to the toilet, which is extremely close to where food is being prepared and completely inaccessible for anyone with mobility issues. The toilet door did not shut, so the woman who runs the cafe had to slam shut another door in order for there to be any privacy (and any level of hygiene), which then resulted in one of our party being trapped inside the toilet unable to get out. When another member of our party was eventually able to force the door open from the outside and the person who was trapped was understandably shaken at the experience, the women running the cafe had the nerve to tell her to calm down, and then denied having said anything at all. All in all it was a horrendous experience, no redeeming features - this unfortunate situation could have been helped with a kind manner but instead was made much worse. Avoid. We will be making a formal complaint to the food standards agency. A bizarre and upsetting experience!
