The Haywain in New Forest

Our 1st visit here and it was an absolute joke of a place food never turned up after an hour and forty five minutes of waiting with young hungry children the staff just avoided the dining area as much as possible it seemed and we had to find them to get any information the other guests where having the same problem and when food turns up on another table we overheard them complain that the burger was stone cold after our lengthy wait we asked for a refund and left as we couldn't wait any longer and went to McDonald's we won't be going here again and now waiting to be refunded. Update of review spoke to a manager called who told me they would chase up my refund and call me didn't call me that was now four days and it's been ten days and still no refund tried to call yesterday with no luck so the poor service is still happening as I can't seem to get my money back from these lot.

We popped in for Sunday lunch just 3 of us . Wasn't to busy . We had our roast then ordered puddings. One arrived and we waited over 20 minutes for 2 more to arrive. In the mean time we were told we would have to leave our table so a group could come in . I think that was so rude considering we didn't even have our puddings at this point . The Guinness was frothy and took ten mins . Also when we went yo get our carvery we waited 10 mins to get served.

Not so good got there 9.30am no sausages, no backon eggs were very snotty not really cooked enough. It's disappointing it's as if they don't care. There was no tray on the toast machine so if you had toast it flew out on the table. Wasn't overly busy so no need for not having food cooked at that time of the day.

Food the beef wasn't fresh like it was left from the night before really dry. It was like an old school dinner no where as nice as before. I wanted the fish and chips but they didnt say what the fish was bit off putting. Staff seem friendly and nice. Atmosphere well it was really cold in there felt very flat.

Okay carvery, wasn't largest selection of vegetarian but was okay.

If I could leave a 0 star i would!! wasnt busy there were 3 cooks so I'm guessing a normal amount for a pub ... Waited an hour and half with 3 starving kids and had enough. No one came to explain what was going on. The waitress was lovely and lost haha bless her.

Absolutely loved the food, amazing service, Charlotte and Tyler so kind, having conversations whilst pouring our drinks, and to Alfie from the kitchen helping out with running our food and clearing our empty plates. Overall a lovely night out, will definitely be back. Thank you for such a lovely night.

Excellent service and lovely food. Hot Chocolate was really hot just how I like it. Had the breakfast today which was lovely. I asked if there was more black pudding and it was brought over to the table by Charlotte. Going again tomorrow for a carvery 👍

I went there today looked at the carvery the beef was all dried up asked if any more beef was coming out the response was it was company policy Notton bring out any more until that one was all gone had a burger which was undercooked I will not return there

Worse experience here been a few times, won’t be returning, food just about edible no flavour we went for 2 carvery’s most of the food was either burnt or under cooked, staff seem to wonder around counting steps then helping ‘guests’ to there table including in what appears to be the manager at the time.

It was the worst visit I have had. The drinks took 25 minutes to come. I had to check on them. They were waiting on the side. I took them to the table. The plant based chicken took 25 minutes to make then it was completely dry and did not taste nice at all. The vegetables were all dry, and sparse. Worst roast dinner I’ve had at Haywain and I’ve been coming for over 10 years

Carvery is good, but £2.45 for shot of lime , in a lime and soda.RIP OFF!!!! Soda was confirmed as free,

So awful we got a refund and left. Staff clearly didn’t want to be there. Place was empty, carvery food had clearly been there for quite a while and they said they would bring fresh out after 15 mins so guessing that would all be reheated. When I told manager about the staff he said it was being addressed yet on another review the manager has put it’s been sorted. Chef dumped new pot of roast potatoes down yet they were burnt even more!! Not even homemade Yorkshire puddings. Stuffing was solid and mash was an awful colour and solid. Certainly won’t go back, such a shame as use to be great

We love the haywain , we are very regular customers & booked for Christmas dinner last year ..as expected ,great service, lovely atmosphere & staff are all very professional & friendly ..

The service was amazing and very attentive. Atmosphere was good but the place could do with a better clean. Food was very inconsistent unfortunately as some meals were great and others were pretty awful such as the burgers.

I had the carvery, sorry to say the beef was very fatty and chewie, no parsnips and cauliflower cheese had no flavour. Told the waitress and she said she would tell the chef. Not somewhere we would return unfortunately 😕

Menu is relatively limited but the food is excellent. Service is slow but that's likely due to staffing levels today being inadequate to meet demand.

I lunch here quite often. Most of the family have joined me on Boxing day over the last few years and we all enjoy the day.

The best pub in the area by far, and can’t be beaten for the price! Would absolutely recommend to anyone just to pop in for a drink or some of the remarkable food on offer. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area!

We often eat here and today we took my 96 year old mum for her birthday. She fancied the beef but I noticed that it consisted of a skin like crust. I asked if they were putting out any fresh joint and was told that they had to use up what was there due to reducing food waste. So it goes without saying we declined. We also found that most of the vegetables were dry and the roast potatoes looked like they were days old. We were there for 6.00pm so not sure what the excuse would be. Also worth noticing was the prices have increased. Not the main complaint but enough to make us go somewhere else next time.

We meet here about every 5 to 6 weeks for a breakfast club plenty of room and the breakfast is good all you can eat help yourself to tea and coffee looking forward to the next one in January

Dirty. Dirty cutlery, plates, bar tops, toilets, I surprised that is not visited by Food Hygiene. Staff were poor, grubby, didn't give a toss really. Breakfast was just deep fried, tasteless, NEVER AGAIN. Do yourself a favour and go elsewhere..

Iv been coming here for years 😊 My daughter worked here last year , and the food and service was terrible. Today we come back and the service the staff and food has been its best its ever been , We loved the homemade sticky toffee pudding beautiful, Well done new team 😊👌🙌🙏👏

The food was nice, however a member of our parties main was forgotten about. Therefore we were unable to eat altogether. We had to ask when the food would be arriving. This then proceeded to happen again with desert.

I've been coming here for at least 15 years, if not more, and currently The Haywain is at its best! Still great value, brilliant food, and great service. I would highly recommend it, especiallythe carvery!

Atmosphere is always amazing and I don't know what is it with their music but they always play bangers. You get a lot for your money's worth. Food is great, selection is good and staff is fantastic. Overall a great choice for dinner out.

Good value for money. The buffet is really good and have a varied menu as well. The pizza oven is good with really good selection of salad. Their breakfast buffet is so worth having, with free refills on tea and coffee

Not great, arrived at 2pm. Meat was nice, but as for the rest, awful, dried up veg, potatoes rock hard, no swede and carrot. Good job there was gravy to cover it all up. Staff were friendly but won't hurry back.

Come here whilst staying in the area for a couple of nights we had dinner here the chips unfortunately were a little overdone and asking for BBQ sauce was told it normally would cost extra but tbh my chicken burger was supposed to come with BBQ sauce but didn't have any on it guy gave me a pot of sauce so didn't kick off....we returned for the all you can eat breakfast and was not disappointed tbh was nice veggie sausages were okay not amazing but rest was nice

Great food. Turkey on the carvery was a little dry, but the beef was perfect. It was a very quiet night due to it being bonfire night.

Haven't been to the Haywain for a long time so decided to pop in for a carvery. Absolutely delicious. We're booked in for Christmas Day lunch and I have to say if the food and service are as good as today I'll be VERY HAPPY 🎄 Another delicious carvery even better it was a half price deal 😋

We come here regularly as a family and we enjoy the food here. The carvery is delicious, great selection and the menu has a great range of dishes if you do not want a carvery. I didn't have a carvery today as i wanted to try something from the new menu, the crispy chicken pieces were delicious and so was the chicken burger with the tater tots, awesome. The service is always good, friendly staff and we would like to thank Shelby for being very kind to us, was lovely to talk to and was working hard to keep everything tidy. We would certainly recommend this place.

Update: We celebrated my birthday on Sunday and were made so welcome, the food was excellent, reasonably priced and customer service went as far as everyone singing me Happy birthday with a cake. Would highly recommend since new management took over We will definitely be back to try the new menu though I love the carvery Thank you very much I had visited a couple of times over the last few months, I was not impressed with the food (cold) service (dreadful and such a rude manager) FAST FORWARD to last night, I had booked the table for family visiting and was handy location for us all. Wow it was as if there was a totally new feeling when i walked through the door, it was a completely different pub. The smiles we experienced when we arrived were welcoming, the pub was spotless and the tables no longer sticky and the cutlery was shining not smeared. Ordering drinks from the bar more smiles and welcoming. I enquired about the change since i last visited, I was told there was a new permanent manager, a lovely lady introduced herself to me and i told her about the issues i had had previously, she said obviously she couldn't do anything about my past visits but if i had any issue whatever in future just to speak to her (sorry i couldn't remember your name) The food was fresh, piping hot and very enjoyable, service excellent I could not fault anything from the moment we arrived to when we left. We will 100% return and recommend anyone to try it again you will not be disappointed

Food today was very poor only lukewarm not nice at all! .

On arrival we were greeted by a very friendly member of staff named Nathan. The carvery server Nicky was professional and chatty. The food was tasty but the potatoes although cooked the outside was hard and not crispy. My friend and my mobility is poor and Nathan offered to carry our plates to the table which we very much appreciated.

Lovely helpful staff with our grandson who has a Gluten allergy.Special thanks to Ellie she made our day.

The lady greeting at the door was really helpful in finding us a table as we hadn't booked and it was a busy Sunday lunchtime. Her extra effort was very much appreciated. Food was excellent. We had carvery and everything was fresh and there was plenty of it. Really friendly staff all round.

Had to be dragged out because i was so full up of the amazing food the team prepared! Insane service, the speed of service definitely didn't alter the quality one bit!! I will be back in a hurry!

On my recent visit I have enjoyed carvery.The food was excellent,cooked well,meat was tender.The service was wonderful.Staff was attentive.Overall it was excellent dinning experience with perfect ambience

Yet again no meat this is the same as the last time we visited we was told we would have to wait 30 minutes for meat to be cooked so we got a refund and left and won’t be returning which is a shame because we used to love this place
