So this listing is wrong. The resturaunt is the Waterbird and the hotel is now a different listing called the Lakes hotel and Sa. Ate at the waterbird this weekend and it wasnt a great experience. The maitre d was very rude about wanting us to order because "our kitchen cannot cater for a lot of meals and we have a large booking coming" despite us arriving at the time we was aked to come for. Both meals were good but not great Pidgeon was tough and the stake wasnt cooked as asked. For £15 starters and £25+ mains you expect the best not average.

This is the first time that we have stayed here and we were not disappointed. The family room that my friend and I stayed in was clean, warm and comfortable. The beds were amazingly comfortable, and we could not fault anything. All of the staff that we spoke with were friendly, courteous and helpful. Unfortunately there is, at present, no evening meals available but we were allowed to have takeaway meals in the room. Overall an absolutely fantastic stay in an amazing hotel. Thank you so so much 😊

Stayed here and ate in the restaurant one evening. The service was very good, the portions very generous and the food of a very good standard.

We had an excellent lunch here. The lamb and Cumberland sausage dishes were well cooked with fresh vegetables and were very flavoursome. There are lots of gluten free options on the menu. There was a great atmosphere and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend eating here.

Good food and drinks at very reasonable prices, we got a warm welcome (particularly when the friend ordering asked for 2 blondes) 😉. Plenty of areas to sit and enjoy ourselves, open all day and sandwiches were really good, fish fingers ones were huge, soup excellent too

What should have been a lovely occasion spoiled by the condescending manager. We visited the Quayside on New Year’s Eve, two couples with our toddlers and assistance dog during a special trip to the Lake District. Upon arrival we were questioned about our dog and explained he is an assistance dog, and the servers were absolutely fine with this. We offered to pop his badges on and the server said there was no need. We sat and enjoyed our meal, our food was nice - we had the lamb Henry and the sirloin steak. We had just finished our meal, and suddenly the manager popped round to say ‘did nobody tell you you can’t have dogs here??’ In a very condescending tone. We explained the situation very calmly and he accepted this, but he never apologised, he said he had just came on shift and didn’t know - seems like he was desperate to come round and give us a row. As any parent will know it’s impossible to keep toddlers still for long so we were walking about the carpeted area with our babies (no other table in the area was occupied). Suddenly the manager reappeared saying ‘listen I know it’s an assistance dog but just stay in your area - other people are complaining’. He acted as if we were swanning around the restaurant, when in reality my toddler had walked out a little further than the carpet, under my supervision holding the dog on the lead. We didn’t argue and said we were leaving anyway - we didn’t want this to ruin our night but it left a real sour taste in our mouth. Our dog wasn’t making any fuss; our babies were far louder. It’s just sad the attitude of the manager distracted from the meal and the occasion. I’m sure the staff will know who I’m referring to - his attitude wasn’t mirrored by the rest of the staff - the young team were perfectly polite, sweet to our children and happy to help us. Having spent over £160 in the place we expected better on such a special night - maybe he was annoyed he was landed with the New Year’s Eve shift.

£17 for a bacon sandwich, sausage sandwich and 2 teas ! Waited 30 mins for the order and watched serving staff clean the bristles of a floor brush behind the bar. When asked where my order was I was told "oops sorry I forgot it"! When the sandwiches arrived they were awful, overcooked, tasteless and tired.

Luke warm food, takes ages and husband had a bad stomach after having the Chowder. Such a shame. They've spent a fortune doing this place up and it looks great. Great looking menu, unfortunately what's happening in the kitchen? We ordered a soup & chowder, which took 30 minutes and came out warm. The chips were also warm, not hot. This is not a complicated order and wasn't busy. On the way home my husband was complaining about a bad stomach, which he rarely gets. The bar staff and waiting staff are really lovely, but the food is a massive let down.

Decided to book here after seeing the menu advertised on Google. I would suggest not advertising a restaurant if you do not want external guests dining in your establishment! From the second we stepped foot in the building we were looked up and down and made to feel very unwelcome. We wanted to leave but with it already being 7.30pm we’d left it quite late for dinner so decided to see it through. We had filthy looks from the staff throughout the less than 60 minutes we endured. The food was average, lamb still had string on it and was very over cooked. We were given the option for dessert to which we responded ‘no’ for the waiter to signal a thumbs up to the front of house who proceeded to smile knowing we were soon to leave. We asked for the bill, paid and left straight away. Absolutely gutted we spent our last night here and will never EVER return. Disgusting treatment in what looked like a train station waiting room.
