Luke warm food, takes ages and husband had a bad stomach after having the Chowder. Such a shame. They've spent a fortune doing this place up and it looks great. Great looking menu, unfortunately what's happening in the kitchen? We ordered a soup & chowder, which took 30 minutes and came out warm. The chips were also warm, not hot. This is not a complicated order and wasn't busy. On the way home my husband was complaining about a bad stomach, which he rarely gets. The bar staff and waiting staff are really lovely, but the food is a massive let down.

Been to this place so many times in the past and love sitting outside in the sun and looking over the bay area, yeah it's winter so was totally expecting to sit outside.Found a table and went to the bar.should of known things quite as they were when I ordered drinks as the barman tried to fill the glass to the top with ice.(a food barman will always ask if you want ice and how much) Paid for drinks and was told the specials were pie and chicken sandwich. We ordered the sandwich which came with triple fried chips and a starter of loaded potato skins. Total price of food £19 (12 for sandwich and 7 for skins) which admittedly is a bit pricey but we are away and it's a popular tourist destination. We waited at least 30 mins for food and to say the place was cold was an insult to Scandinavia. The food arrived and mine looked quite well presented. However the chips were stone cold, gravy like warm and the chicken was clearly frozen and heated up,. The potato skins were literally just that skins no potato whatsoever, neither was there any cheese either and a slant amount of onion all cleverly hidden under a big blob of sour cream. No one apologised for our wait or bothered to return to ask how our meal was (which under the circumstances was a good thing and they were lucky we were starving) needless to say I'd happily drink here again but will never order food again unless I'd like to be unsatisfied and over charged for the pleasure.

Great service compliments the menu which always has a Sunday roast dinner on Sundays. You need to book in advance to ensure of a table at your chosen time as there is nothing worse than being turned away and having to wait for a table.

Very limited menu very expensive,no decent priced children’s meals,no variety on menu apart from change of pie ,very little vegetarian options, not a particularly well executed menu, unfortunately it’s impossible to get any food delivered to hotel as it’s in the middle of nowhere,I would never book this restaurant

We arrived in lovely sunshine but were disappointed to find that contrary to the impression given in the advertisement by Lakeland Retreats of sitting on your decking enjoying the sun there is no sun as the Lawns is surrounded by high trees making the interior constantly dark. You have to put the lights on for your breakfast and if you eat in later in the day then also. My partner decided to have a bath the first night but unfortunately contrary to the management company's assertion that there's a constant supply of hot water the hot water ran out and the water turned cold. This happened twice as it did to our neighbours in the adjoining Lakeland Retreats property. We normally have a cooked breakfast on a Sunday but we were appalled to find that the two frying pans supplied were pitted with rust and unusable. Finally as the season turned from summer to autumn the evenings got a little nippy. We tried to turn up the storage radiators but found that the controls are blocked by wooden brackets screwed over the radiators so you can't use them. A beautiful area but we won't be using Lakeland Retreats again if this is the standard they aspire to!

Went for afternoon tea. Lovely venue and pleasant staff but the Afternnon tea was dissapointing, the single very lonely pig in a blanket was nice..but no sandwiches, little bits of fancy coloured cakes. No nutritious value. Not my cup of tea i'm afraid and had to go looking for somewhere to eat after we left. And £60 for the experience☹🤣..that is 3 exellent afternoon teas for 2 at our local cafe still in the lakes!.. but it is the lakes after all...££££££££££££££££££.
