We called in at the Cornish Bakery to pick up some provisions before a day’s walking in the lakes. What a gorgeous little bakery with friendly, welcoming staff. We would recommend the almond and cherry croissant, as well as the chocolate twist. We also grabbed some lunch to take with us and recommend the spiced cauliflower and onion bhaji pasty, as well as the chicken masala pasty - both brimming with filling and delicious, unusual flavours. Couldn’t fault the food, the staff or the venue - a great spot to sit in, or grab some tasty snacks to take with you!

MORE AT TripAdvisor

My partner and I popped in for a coffee and cake yesterday. There was only one table free with was uncleared so as it was not busy in there we waited a few minutes for this to happen. We ordered a chai latte and an americano and a couple of pastries . We were served by a blonde lady who offered no friendly advice or conversation at all but simply stared at us waiting for us to order. I asked the young lad making the drinks if there was a toilet we could use. Upstairs was the answer. When I got up there I realised there was more seating and there was one other couple in this room. So I went back downstairs and said to my partner we could sit upstairs so we took the pastries up. We waited 5 minutes or so and clearly we were not going to have our drinks brought up. I went back downstairs and there were our drinks sitting on the side. Mine was Luke warm so I asked the young lad to heat it up for me even if he had to put it in the microwave. He said I’m not doing that I’ll put milk in it. He was fuming. I said thank you as I collected my drink and not a word was said back. The bill was £14.15 which is not too bad for a couple of drinks and pastries but still worthy of some friendly customer service. We will not be returning

We had a disappointing experience and I wish we had checked the reviews before choosing this place. My partner had a sausage roll which was fine, I had a sandwich and croissant, which were both stale. The toilet upstairs looked like it had not been cleaned in a long time and was very off putting. There was an office next to it with piles of dirty cups and plates. Perhaps keep that door shut. Customer service was poor, especially with one member of staff (blond/black hair) who made us feel not welcome. We also witnessed a group of a few people coming in, not being greeted and walking out instead of being told about a sitting area upstairs. We felt we had to write a review because of the unacceltable customer service, as everything else we could have ignored. We felt the business owner should be made aware and other customers should also be warned in the meantime.

I couldn’t have a skinny latte as they only had full fat milk. Had a pasty from the hot plate which was only slightly warm and when I asked if it could be heated up I was told no. Then went pay and it is card only, which is fine but they don’t take American Express. If a business insist on card only they should take all cards.

Went in here about 1.30pm for lunch. They had sold out of most hot food and only had about three pasties of various types. Asked if they had any more Cornish traditional pasties and was told they weren’t allowed to cook any more until they had sold the first lot so as to avoid being thrown away. I would have thought lunch time they would cook more. Had to find elsewhere to eat.

Food decent, as you can't really go wrong with a pasty. One of the members of our group received one that was really squished, so asked a member of staff if it was possible for a replacement, which was given after loudly complaining to her colleagues. This was after she had given us not the greatest service during the ordering process, as we wanted to buy some stuff to eat in, and others to take out. For reference, she had an American accent.

Came in with my Wife and Dog for a light lunch, we had a couple of sausage rolls, a pastry and a scone, all was good food and fair price taking into account the location however we was disappointed by the rude lady serving, she assumed we wanted to take away and huffed when we asked to eat in and generally made us feel very unwelcome and that we was an inconvenience. At this point we should of just said forget it and walked out but being tired and hungry we brushed it off thinking maybe she was having a bad day, but looking at other reviews on here that was not the case.... On a positive note the man making the coffees was polite and friendly and came out to give our dog a little biscuit. Food 9/10 customer service 2/10. We won't be visiting again as found much better alternatives.

I asked her if they had any cheese and onion pasties coming out soon, she responded with "its just what we have out here, i asked if any coming out soon as i didnt mind waiting and she gave exactly the same response, ridiculous! Guess The cornish bakery has stopped making cheese and onion flavour now?? Lazy so and so. This place is seriously lacking customer service, no matter what the issue u approach politely u waste of spaces. Disgusting attitude by all when called up upon regarding the shouting. Didn't have the minerals to shout at a man. Carry on picking on the kids and one day someone's gonna fix you I hope. Disgusting service, Disgusting attitude and shocking haircut Amy! Visited the Hastings 'Cornish Pasty Company' had the Vegan spiced chickpea and cauliflower pasty, absolutely divine, but such a shame the company have taken away customers rights to pay by CASH. I understand you want to protect your staff and banking issues (yes I read the previous post) but really, some people prefer to pay in cash, and currently cash is still legal tender. It would have been a straight 5* rating but 1* deducted for that reason. I do hope you reconsider at some stage. Still great pastys though! #CASHISKING

We were a large party of 12 but unfortunately no-one can book a table on a Sunday! This is rare these days as people like to plan their mel times. We knew this is advance as we had been before. We waited for a short while and then the table was ready. This wasn't 1 table but we were spread across 3 separate tables which couldn't be put together and some had to sit elsewhere. This happened last time and this time we thought they would only allocate eating when it was ready for the whole party. Most went for the carvery. The vegetables were very good and the turkey really moist but the beef was so tough that you really needed a steak knife to cut through it. Overall a disappointing experience based upon the service, food quality and price/value for money.

2 night stay at the hotel with tasting menu the first night and breakfast both days. Views are incredible and can be seen from the front of the hotel, outside seating area, some of the indoor breakfast tables and some of the hotel rooms. Our hotel room was a double room (fell view), lovely sunrise view from the large windows, plenty of space and storage, comfy bed. The full English breakfast was lovely. Tasting menu had 5x courses plus bread and canapés. Delicious meal and staff very friendly. Lovely lounge area with topped up fire place. Good location for getting to Windermere and around during the day by a short car journey. My one pointer would be the heating in the bathroom was stuck on full blast, I appreciate these old places are prone to damp but it did feel a bit wasteful. Overall lovely stay and will be back

Just popped in for coffee. Good friendly service and very nice coffee, priced as you would find elsewhere. Didn't eat but the display of pies and cakes looked tempting. Gluten free cakes available as well.

Good, old fashioned tea room. Warm and cosy. Good tea in a massive tea pot. Excellent toasted tea cake. In contrast to some of the recent reviews, we found them very friendly (and have on previous visits). It is up for sale. Hope the new owners don't change it too much!
