Visited again recently absolutely wonderful you forget how your service should be . Napkin on your knee getting your wine topped as you enjoy your meal . The food is out of this world all freshly cooked with a choice of fresh vegetables all piping hot on warm plates . And the price won’t break the bank we will be back very very soon . Thankyou so much .

I really enjoyed my stay here. The welcome was warm and everyone I encountered (staff and locals) were extremely friendly. The room itself was large, clean and comfortable. I didn’t eat here but can highly recommend the banoffee rum!

Absolutely awesome meal very sensibly priced. Service was excellent. But they could do more for the disabled. Only one disabled parking space and this was already taken.

I am staying at BW for work and booked dinner at Hilltops on my first night. I was initially nervous that there didn't appear to be anything suitable for vegans on the menu, but I double checked with the receptionist, who was very helpful and communicated my request to the restaurant. This was a short-notice request, so I was not expecting much, but the chefs went above and beyond. The tofu & veg curry was really tasty, and the choc fudge cake was delicious. I couldn't eat it all in one sitting, but the team prepared the leftovers for me to take to my room and eat later. Thank you to the talented kitchen team and wonderful front of house team at Hilltops!

Fantastic afternoon tea with friends. Cannot rate more highly. Attention to detail was second to none. All of the food was delicious, even some left over to take home! Perfection on a plate. Thanks guys. Excellent service and great prices. Will be back very soon!

the couple who run the cottage cannot do enough for you - they are so friendly and helpful - been going there for years after trying so many places close to Tatton Park for the RHS flower show - been dismayed by many, so called 'top class' places = then we found the cottage - fab place, very clean, everything you need, breakfast fab, and, as i mentioned at the start, the couple who run it are so nice, friendly and helpful - will deffo be going back - many times hopefully - I need to add after looking at questions below, this a b&b not a restaurant so my answers below are just so I can put a post on here as to how good this place is :)

Called in tonight for two fish and chips was absolutely terrible. The fish was burned. The chips were tasteless and I had to look twice. I thought I’d order the children’s meal. It was that small this place used to be great two years ago. Don’t know if this changed hands or what but won’t be going again again.

I came here for an early evening meal, the place was quiet. It's nice to see the chef at work, from your table. There's a counter bell for when a order is ready; I suppose this can get a bit of annoying when it's packed. I decided to go for an 8oz steak, with rocket salad & frites; the peppercorn sauce was extra. I had it well done, it was just right; although there weren't many frites. So I decided to have a desert; a twist on the apple pie them, with an apple pie pancake. This came with icecream on top, and some kind of sweet sauce.

Since coming under new management a couple of years ago, The Faulkner has gone from strength to strength. What used to be an average pub with okay food is now a fantastic gastro pub serving top notch food amid a great atmosphere. The staff were all lovely and we were well looked after, particularly by Rachael who was attentive and friendly. We'll definitely return to The Faulkner for more great food and wine!

I really don’t know how this chippy has won an award but then I realised it’s a competition that the chippy pays to enter, not voted by public. It’s awful, usually go Bunbury but tried here and the chips tasted awful, the oil they use leaves an awful taste in your mouth. Will never come here again. There are hardly any traditional chippys in Chester, that must be the only reason people go here, would have preferred to give the £30 to a homeless person and had a slice of toast.

My partner and I popped in for a bite to eat early afternoon on a Sunday, spur of the moment decision having parked up for a walk in the area. We were immediately greeted by one of the waiting staff and offered one of 2 tables, this because many of their tables were already reserved. We noticed (more felt) the table was sticky, which wasnt a great start. Our order was taken few minutes later opting for a chicken salad, chicken goujons and a chicken burger. The goujons fron the starter menu and remainder from the mains but asked for it all to come out together. I need to point out my partner is a trained chef of many years before we carry on. The food arrived and my partner immediately made comment to me that it looked as if the salad had been tipped out of a bought packet with small pieces of sliced chicken you'd expect from a supermarket. It had no dressing apart from the tiniest balsamic drizzle, so no taste. She immediately went up to the staff behind the till and explained the salad was bland and could she have more balsamic. She was given a small ceramic dish of thick balsamic the kind you use to make the dish look appealing but not as a tasteful dressing. This didn't help with the lack of taste and told the same member of staff why and then returned the salad to the kitchen. We didn't want it replacing as felt it was a simple dish that was poorly executed in all sense of the word. My burger was also lacking in what I'd expect from a £16.50 meal. 2 very small (spicy coated) pieces of chicken in a dry bun, no tomato, no lettuce, no dressing, no sauce etc. Salad was on the side in same condition as my partners chicken salad. The goujons were served placed on top of another salad (never seen that before) and again bland with no dip to accompany the plate. Upon leaving we were told the cost of the chicken salad had been removed from the bill, which was entirely expected with apology for the meal. All in all very disappointing for us both. This is not a cheap place to eat and expected a delicious, tasty, well cooked lunch but sadly received the complete opposite. Such a shame as this is a lovely location and an inviting place to eat but won't be returning.
