The best restaurants serving British food in Cheshire West and Chester North West

Great atmosphere, friendly,informative staff. Our food choices were pre ordered 2 days before, as we sat down with drinks, we were asked ,are we ready for food, we didn't have to spend ages deciding what to have . It was underway and everything available

Popped in for a lunchtime drink and decided to book a table in the evening. Wasn’t disappointed, food was amazing, staff were attractive and friendly.

Given a Groupon voucher as a gift for this meal. We got the budget Groupon service. Small table tucked away. Tonight a long story short the rump top steak cut we were only able to have with this package was so chewey and poor it had to be re cooked just to be edible The monkfish cheeks I had as a starter was tiny and smothered in a curried sauce the triple cooked chips were processed thin croquettes. And the Dirty mash did t seem to have the bacon lardons. Just some gravy and a sprig of cooked onions. All in all a poor showing for what looks like a lovely place to dine. To top it off the first bill presented was for the full meal no Groupon voucher taken into account. And the waitresses rolled her eyes when I explained their error. Chester has a lot of dining experiences and we go to a few when we can. I don’t think we will revisit this one.

The food was tasty, Great coffee and the service excellent.

Came for lunch today after visiting last Thursday what a difference to our perfect first visit. Today the team members weren’t interested in the customers 3 of them stood talking at the bar everytime we want something no cutlery on table when our starters arrived so had to wait for them to bring it while food was sat In front of us. Starters were good no complaints but had to get up and ask for them to clear them as they were more interested in talking behind the bar. Mains not so good fish the batter was so dark and hard chips not hot and looked a funny colour. Ham egg and chips couldn’t eat it chips luke warm eggs over cooked ham very sweet. No check back carried out again when I got up to pay all 3 stood talking one then went to clear another young member did my bill didn’t ask was everything no good bye absolutely nothing from her left very dissatisfied after having a lovely visit last Thursday sorry won’t be returning.

Food was excellent very hot and tasty also reasonably priced. Friendly helpful staff will definitely recommend to family and friends and will be going again soon.

Delicious breakfast! Lovely, Friendly staff! We visited here while on holiday and what a lovely garden centre! We had breakfast… fresh, delicious, great g/f options! And well priced… if we lived near here this would be a regular breakfast haunt for us!! Keep up the good work!

Spent a lovely afternoon and night here good food and lovely staff . Nice rooms and comfortable bed , very nice breakfast and very atmospheric bar and restaurant

Hmm, what a disappointment! Cinder toffee ice cream was as delicious as ever. However the portion size of one scoop was definitely not the same size as on previous visits. It resembled more of a thimble full. 😪

Driving towards the Birkenhead ferry. Check on here and the most likely option was here. Arriving early I sat in the bar. Selecting my menu the food was very tasty and fresh have to suspect the chips were frozen. Car parking is expensive just behind the hotel. minimum £7 for a few hours.

Excellent food and friendly staff. The building is beautiful but the staff made us feel very welcome and the food was outstanding.

We called in here for breakfast as it was very close to the hotel where we were staying. It is on the ground floor of Chester’s historic “Rows” and has a very attractive interior with a vaulted ceiling. We had coffee and toast. The coffee was lukewarm. We were annoyed that they did not take cash.

Just had afternoon tea to celebrate our anniversary. The food was delicious and the staff were outstanding. The dining room was warm and cosy. Altogether a memorable anniversary treat.
