The Forge in Cheshire West and Chester

Given a Groupon voucher as a gift for this meal. We got the budget Groupon service. Small table tucked away. Tonight a long story short the rump top steak cut we were only able to have with this package was so chewey and poor it had to be re cooked just to be edible The monkfish cheeks I had as a starter was tiny and smothered in a curried sauce the triple cooked chips were processed thin croquettes. And the Dirty mash did t seem to have the bacon lardons. Just some gravy and a sprig of cooked onions. All in all a poor showing for what looks like a lovely place to dine. To top it off the first bill presented was for the full meal no Groupon voucher taken into account. And the waitresses rolled her eyes when I explained their error. Chester has a lot of dining experiences and we go to a few when we can. I don’t think we will revisit this one.

Things started off quite well the greeter was pleasant and efficient. The drinks were served without undue delay and the starters were great. We were all having the roast but of the few options the pork was sold out, a bit surprising with such a limited menu. The mains were served without the potatoes and they followed after a request as our food was cooling. Nobody came to check if everything was okay until after we’d finished eating. The puddings were tasty, but the service had by now ground to a halt. My review score would have been lower if we weren’t on a Groupon deal. We won’t be back in a hurry, as nothing stood out. There is a lot of competition in the area and this experience was below par

One of the nicest pieces of meat I have ever had. The venison was spectacular. The staff were incredibly nice and we had great conversations with the waiting staff (as we were some of the last people in the restaurant) and they were so hospitable and lovely. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was brilliant. Would well reccomend.

We were a party of 4 and came on a Tuesday. Not too busy but that but that’s a midweek Chester for you. However, watching the team work, getting to go up and choose which cut we wanted and having some great info on our options fed to us from what I assume was the manager on duty Sean, was all really great stuff. The food was incredible, the choice on the menu was great, and the dirty mash needs to be kept on the menu forever! Strong work from the forge.

A great restaurant and the food was perfect, we had the beef which was cooked exactly how we requested. Will definitely be returning later this year.

We visited recently for a lovely family meal. The restaurant has a really nice design and decor, with the kitchen on full display, showing the chefs at work preparing dishes. Really friendly staff who looked after us throughout our meal. Nothing worse than waiting staff who go missing in action when you need something, not so here. The food really was pretty good, with tasty starters and snacks, and an outstanding steak. Be careful not to overdo it with the steak portion size, as the main steaks are priced by weight and a typical steak starts at 400g. E.g. a ribeye was £11 per 100g I think, but with a minimum weight of 400g you're looking at a £44 steak best case. I went for the Picanha at 227 and that was more than enough to eat with some chunky chips and creamy leak sides. Delicious food but a little pricey. Cost us £210 for three people with a starter, main and drinks.

Didn’t really fancy any of the starters wasn’t really to my taste ordered ox cheek but didn’t like it. The roast was quite nice lovely beef and some of the roasties were ok some were too hard to eat nice veg and red wine sauce was nice. Wasn’t much choice for deserts was just two on menu got one of each didn’t like either. The black current crème brule was very bitter. The drinks seemed to cost a lot paid 20 quid for two soft drinks and water that we never asked for and service charges. Was ok wouldn’t go again didn’t enjoy the starter or desert at all so wasn’t great value

We went for Sunday Roast - it was splendid. Good service and good atmosphere, had a singer there that day. The beef was great, and roasted potatoes fantastic. Appreciated one of the cooks telling me the recipe. Would highly recommend in Chester. It is at the Hotel Indigo, which we also stayed at and enjoyed.

Their professionalism and warmth enhanced the overall dining experience, making us feel well cared for throughout the evening. While The Forge Chester is on the pricier side, the exceptional quality of the food, drinks, and service justifies the cost. It’s a fantastic venue for special occasions or when you simply want to treat yourself to an outstanding meal. In summary, The Forge Chester excels in every aspect of the dining experience.
