Very noisy couldn’t hear yourself think never mind talk…. Ordered a 13” pizza and small garlic bread and two coffee chai latti The pizza was rubbish and had hardly any pepperoni on it… The garlic bread was tasteless hard and very dry… This all cost £30!!! What a complete rip off Won’t be going back!!

The Cottage is a fine example of the great British local. Friendly staff, a decent well-priced pint and a resident cat.

After a very busy day taking in the sights of Chester, we decided to drop in for a quiet drink and something to eat. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. There were quite a few customers who seemed worse for wear and were very loud, and there was a lot of shouting between several males. So much so we thought there was going to be a fight. On another table were several females who looked like they were drinking the wine like water. These, too, were also getting louder and louder by the glassful. We finished our drinks and left without ordering any food. What were the bar staff about all the noise and commotion, nothing only keeping the rowdy punters topped up with alcohol. Perhaps we caught it just at the wrong moment, and hopefully, it was a one-off.

This was our first visit since we were in the area and on our way home at about 18:00. The shop itself is very welcoming as are the staff. It really does look like a 'proper' fish & chip shop and the reviews and commendations gave rise to high expectations. I ordered three large cod and chips which cost in the order of £32 which I guess is about right nowadays. They came nicely packaged and we drove home (about 15 minutes) to eat them. In my opinion the fish, although well cooked and tasty, was not particularly large and did not have a lot of thickness to it. Most disappointing however were the chips; quite soft and a bit mushy. My wife and niece didn't like them although I polished mine off. I was a bit surprised at this and wondered if the time that they stood in the boxes could have affected them ?
