Alvanley Arms in Cheshire West and Chester

Second time we have been for a meal, when we were passing, and for the second time and it didn’t disappoint. The service was excellent and the food was outstanding. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Stayed here overnight, the room was beautifully decorated and had a good choice of tv channels. Netflix and prime. The breakfast was delicious, a good selection and well cooked. We also had an evening meal, I chose the roast dinner, absolutely outstanding. The portion size and quality of produce. It was one of the best meals I have had.

A very warm and friendly pub in a beautiful rural setting. The food is good and the service is good. The beer garden has a lovely view of the open Cheshire landscape. The parking is spacious.

We've been before and couldn't fault it. However we went today the food was faultless but the service was very very slow.

Absolutely beautiful place! The food is outstanding! And very very reasonable. The steak pie without a doubt was the nicest I've EVER HAD. The waffles were incredible and the service was perfect. 10/10 will go again and will recommend to anyone. Dog and young baby friendly too.

Sunday Lunch. Delicious Sunday Roast dinner. Beef was exceptionally tender - chose the small plate but the serving was very generous. No room for pudding! Staff were lovely and ambience to match. Will definitely be returning!

We didn't stay at this Hotel, but were visiting the area, so had looked the 'Reviews' which seemed good. The decor & atmosphere of this Pub/Restaurant was nice & the Staff were very friendly & welcoming, we started with the Black Pudding Bon Bons which were delicious (shared them) I had the Roasted Belly Pork which was delicious, dropped to pieces when you cut into it. My Partner had the Beer Battered Haddock & Chips which he said was lovely. Would definitely make a return visit if we were in this area again. Thanks to the Team for a great service !!

We had the most delicious food here! The cheese, onion and potato pie was one of the best things I've ever had along with the peas and green beans. My husband's club sandwich was great and my kids really enjoyed the pasta. Will definitely be back next time we are in the UK.

This evening I was shocked beyond belief! As we were travelling back from the north and passing this pub very regularly, we thought why not whip and give it a try as the car park was far from full. We walked into a less than 1/4 full pub with many tables completely empty, and I'll be honest the atmosphere was terrible for 7.15 on a Sunday evening. After waiting patiently for nearly 5 mins, I asked if they would have a table for 2. To my shock, the bar maid said "no unless you've pre booked." Don't get me wrong, if the place was fully booked, I could well understand not getting a table for 10 people, but to be refused for a table for 2 at prime eating time is outrageous! So I did what any normal person would do.... called the Pheasant at burwardsley, asked for a table for 2, they said they were fully booked but not to worry we will squeeze you in.... had another amazing meal at the Pheasant, and let's be fair, I will not ever try the Averly arms again. So if you want to eat here, make sure you pre book or will be bitterly disappointed 👎

Very nice pub, very friendly staff, service can be a little slow but very nice food well worth a visit.

We have been a few times for lunch. The setting is nice and food is consistently good with generous portions, but the service does vary a bit. There is a tendency to be very inflexible about table allocation - depends who is on duty. I also wish someone would have a word with the staff and tell them not to pet visiting dogs whilst they are still serving.

The food was fantastic, married with a prompt friendly service; no hassle or pressure by the lovely staff who left sufficient time between courses. The portions were balanced I.e. not masses of chunky chips to outsize the main event, which in my case was a 10oz rump steak, cooked to absolute perfection! The team was managed by a young lady called Fraya who will go places... Freya was extremely professional in a clearly busy hotel/pub/restaurant. Well done Fraya - thanks to you and your team.

Huge roast dinner, wasn’t the best. My mum said she prefers quality over quantity. Potatoes were not good and beef brisket. Would rather have roast beef any day. Been during the week for steak. 1st time was great, next time not so and service isn’t great, staff could be more attentive and friendlier.

We haven't stayed in the hotel but have visited the restaurant Brilliant dining experience and excellent service from a professional staff. Food is cooked to perfection .Both my wife and myself highly recommend this restaurant you won't be disappointed.

Visited on the off chance as we passed it on the way. Glad we did, great food, very friendly and pleasant staff and very reasonable price. Lovely setting next to the Cheshire Shire Horse Centre. Would definately recommend and would stop again if we were in the area. Fabulous, thank you very much to all the staff.

First rate menu choices. Food was very good. Served quickly. We were passing on our way to another pub/restaurant and saw this and thought we would give it a try. It proved to be a great choice. Lovely staff made for a super lunch. Dog friendly was a bonus. Highly recommended.

The Sunday meal today was ok, however the chips & Veg were just warm. The plates weren’t hot yet they were brought to the table as if they were. A little disappointed & hope if we do visit again the kitchen may learn from this review.

Never had a bad experience at the Alvanley arms. Food top quality and good value, staff proffessional, visiting in June for an 80th birthday celebration and looking forward to it.

Very nice country inn with an excellent menu and a delightful outdoor area. Super handy for Oulton Park and visiting beautiful Cheshire. Helpful staff led by Anne who could not have done more for us, including arranging early breakfast so we could make it to an event on time. Very hospitable and would certainly stay again. Recommended.

First visit with friends. The food was very good, plenty of it and the service was friendly. Importantly, the room was warm on a cold day.

A Robinsons Brewery pub with great beer and fabulous food. The beef and ale pie was excellent and the chunky chips, obviously not out of a packet, were as good as any I've tasted. Lovely staff who were attentive without being over fussy.

Went for a Sunday roast... really good food, although if I'd known the 'small adult roast' was so big, I'd probably have gone for that!

Can't rate the rooms as we did not stay. Popped in for a Sunday lunch with my wife and five year old son. Have not had a nicer Sunday roast EVER. I'm very picky and often go to much more expensive pubs than this. Service was excellent table to the clean. Cannot fault it will definitely be going again.

Thank you for a lovely meal yesterday. The beef & ale pie was served as a slice and not an individual pie. I prefer a slice of pie and this one was perfect. The Southern Fried Chicken Baguettes were also super. A delightful meal finished with some heavenly Sticky Toffee pudding and Belgian Waffle. Even though it was busy, the service was wonderful and really quick. Thank you and we'll definitely be back

It is a truly worthwhile stop for a bite to meal, well moreso a meal of quality, to enjoy that evening out, or to just top off a good day out. The food was exemplary, and the service is impeccable whilst the decor was classy and welcoming. A highly recommended place to stop, whilst also being next to the Shire horse visitor centre, which is worth a walkabout.

We have just returned from a weekend away and had the most fantastic time. From the initial check in, to the moment we left, everyone was so friendly. The breakfast was one of the best we've had. The food at night time was good, my husband especially liked his beef and ale pie. We will definitely be back early next year.

Excellent restaurant with rooms. We had dinner here earlier in the year and this time decided to stay B&B overnight in one of their rooms as well as dinner. Breakfast, well just excellent (full English). Staff are great and the food delicious and plentiful, combined with good beer (ales) and great wine selection.

Have called into Alvanley Arms in the past for drinks in the summer and always thought what a nice pub it is. Thought I’d visit for a nice pub meal with partner, however was left extremely disappointed. Despite the place being pretty much empty they struggled to seat us eventually finding us a table in the empty dining room. There were a couple of staff members serving but it was not remotely quick. We weren’t offered more drinks and when the food arrived it was very bland and disappointing. The music playing in the background was heavy metal and we asked if it could be changed as it was rather bizarre and not relaxing at all, which to be fair they accommodated. I had high hopes of this place being good as I’m local but that’s not the experience I had unfortunately and was left a little bewildered

I can't remember the last time I stayed at the Alvanley Arms, but it was a long time ago and it was, shall we say, in need of a little TLC. That has now happened and it has been turned into a comfortable and lovely place to stay with a good bar and restaurant, friendly, helpful staff and a huige car park,helpful if you're towing a trailer. I stayed here while on a race weekend at Oulton Park, for which it is very conveniently sited and I will definitely be back next time I'm racing at Oulton!

Lovely pub with beautifully decorated rooms, comfy beds & great shower. Even though we were next to a road the rooms were quiet with good choice of teas & coffees waiting for you. Great breakfast & friendly staff - all round a lovely place to stay.

Booked last minute due to the hotel we booked for 2 nights being a right tip. We checked out a day early. Fortunately for us the Alvanley was available for 1 night. Very clean. Staff approachable and friendly. Everything done with a smile on there face. Great atmosphere. Food was great and hot not just warm like some places. Will be going back and recommending to friends. Great base for Exploring the local area.

We had an excellent night here last week , whilst attending a wedding at the local Peckforton Castle. Beautiful surroundings with the garden going down onto the lake and the bedrooms and bathroom were lovely. Everything was spotlessly clean and the beds were very comfortable. Our rooms were at the back of the hotel and very quiet but I think the road is quiet at night anyway, the breakfast was great and all the staff were extremely helpful. We are hoping to stay again here in the spring.

We stayed for two nights to attend a family wedding, and were impressed by the very good standard of the room, which is tastefully decorated, has a good shower and most importantly a very comfortable bed. Breakfast on both days was excellent, with a comprehensive choice and was well cooked. The staff were always most helpful, making our stay very pleasant.

Having frequently dined here over the years we've seen many Management changes and changes in menu etc. We dined with friends on a sunny weekday evening and found the menu much smaller than our last visits. Not a problem just an observation. Food chosen was very good and presented well however we all commented that the service was lacking somewhat. Staff friendly enough but empty glasses slow to be cleared away and leaning over us rather than serving correctly. Also no fresh serviettes with desserts. Enjoyable evening but definitely not as good as we've had before.

Had a lovely Sunday afternoon lunch sat in the garden overlooking the lake. The team were friendly, service was great and food excellent. Good choice on the menu and in particular the king prawn starter was delicious and cooked perfectly.

I have driven for nearly 30 years past the Alvenley Arms on various travels but have never, for some reason, stopped there. We first decided to give it a go over Christmas time 2022 and we're blown away by the place, the service and the food. We decided to return with my parents for Sunday Lunch and again, the whole table was blown away. The food is simply superb. I had the Sunday Roast Beef and it was superb. Great cut of beef cooked so well and the roasties, yorkies and veg was without fault. Some places can be good but over fussy and expensive to boot. This is one of the best Sunday Roasts I've ever had and that is shared by everyone else who dined with us that day. Service is swift and efficient, menu spot on and you don't need a mortgage to eat here. What a country pub is all about. Well done.
