Called in midweek early evening for food. Quiet, with a few locals drinking in. Warm welcome and friendly service. Food was fresh and tasty. Reasonably priced too. Will definitely return.

Working in the area and stayed here the host are very attentive to your needs I stayed the week. Spotless clean rooms and the food was actually home made. Was made to feel very welcome indeed would have stayed for the duration of my works contract but virtually booked up. Locals are very approachable and friendly too bonus especially when your out in the sticks. Ps the misses loved the GERKIN! cheers Andy 🍻

Really disappointed. We called in today for some lunch 2 kids meals and 2 sandwiches. After ordering our food, more than 12 people came in and sat down and all were served food before us, an hour passed we asked where ours meals were, we were told it was on its way. We waited a further 20 mins and had to leave for an event at oulton park. The pub was relatively empty. Drinks were given to us for free but more disappointed that the big group was put in front of us. Was lovely inside but won’t return or recommend

AVOID AT ALL COSTS Booked a room for end of June back in January. Receved a text from a guy called Andrew today, (over 2 months since booking), saying that the room was now unavailable due to an issue! After calling the hotel, Andrew stated that the bathroom was being re-fitted and wouldn't be ready in time which was obviously a very poor excuse for being double booked. I was also told that the fact we had booked train tickets along with tickets for a local steam rally was not his problem, and that he can cancel bookings any time he likes! All of the other local hotels are now fully booked and we will have to look much further afield for accomodation. What an unprofessional and truly shody outfit! AVOID

We have been coming to Little Budworth for many years now to watch various race meetings at Oulton Park. Easter weekend was our first trip down of the year. We usually camp at the circuit whilst here, but every time we always make a point of walking into the village and having a drink at the Red Lion (its became our little tradition over the years). Due to some changes in plans on this occasion, we decided to actually stay at the Red Lion for the night instead of camping. We loved it! The staff are always welcoming and friendly, the food is excellent, there is a great selection of beers and the rooms were nice, clean and comfortable, just what we needed. The whole place has just a really great atmosphere. Can't wait for our next visit!

Always come to the red lion while staying at a campsite up the road the manager and his wife always make us so welcome and the food is out of this world. Always finds us a table even when we forget to book 😂thank you for an enjoyable weekend and welcoming our dog

Very disappointed this year with our booking which was booked last may for this may ..when eventually got to talk to Andy ..we were told we were not booked in but we always have booked in advance ..we feel like he has messed up with our booking ..and tried saying he can't recall our conversation ..we have stayed here for years and never had any issues with the previous owners Alan and carol

A fantastic local pub, offering superb hospitality at great value. The food & drink on offer were just what you would hope for in terms of quality and choice. Can’t speak highly enough of the owners, they’ve created a little gem with a great sense of community spirit. We’ll see you again soon!

Staff, out of this world, food is great, and the location is ideal. I've made the trip here a number of times (1hr) and I am again booking to eat. I plan at some point stay as very close to oulton park raceway

4 of us had evening meal 17 Feb, it was delicious. Lovely simple menu of good food. I had the Fish and chips, I like it very crispy and well done and they cooked it perfectly, unfortunately I don't have a big appetite and couldn't eat it all, but it was perfect. The Cheese Pie oozed with plenty of Cheese and my husband's Steak Pie was full of meat. We also ordered the Ham, Eggs and chips and there was 4 huge thick slices of Ham, my friend loved it. The service was fast and our server a lovely young lady. Another lady, I think she was the landlady, was very attentive and made sure we had a good time, which we did. We will definitely return and highly recommend. (The Kay's party)

I enjoyed a visit to The Red Lion for dinner and a couple of beers. The steak pie and chips proved a hearty meal. The staff were welcoming and service was good. This is a lovely, traditional British pub with low ceilings and a fireplace.

Called in mid week as we were looking for a nice country pub for my wife’s birthday lunch, and although living not too far away had never tried the Red Lion before. What a find! Great food, lovely staff and will definitely be going back.

Pleasant welcome on arrival and shown to our table, very attentive staff throughout the night. Food was very good and served in a timely manner. Lovely ambience of the recently refurbished pub which was very tastefully undertaken. We were out walking on New Years Eve and stopped for some refreshments and were pleasantly surprised at the interior redecoration and decided to book a table for the evening meal in such a lovely setting with its log fire all aglow. This pub has a warm welcome and staff are helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, and food was good and plentiful. The atmosphere in the bar was pleasant. I would definitely stay again if I am in the area. Incidentally, a nice little village, too.

Stayed here for two nights in late October, on a visit from London to see family, and had dinner once with a sizeable group. Our room was very nice, a bit more characterful than the usual corporate hotels, and the breakfasts were lovely. Dinner fine too, although I guess they've cut out some of the fancier dishes due to the various problems facing the hospitality sector. All staff were very friendly and efficient. Recommended for anyone on a medium budget visiting the Bolton/Bury area.

We meet up with friends from Stoke often in and around the Tarporley area and came across this lovely pub in Little Budworth as an option for dining and an overnight stay.The Robinsons Brewery establishment is cosy with traditional and tasteful decor. We received a warm welcome from the Landlord on arrival and throughout our stay. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Quite old-fashioned in style in keeping with the overall ambience. Plenty of hot water and a nice hospitality tray.Evening Dinner menu is mainly traditional pub fayre but does offer some unusual choices too which is good. All served with a smile and nicely presented. Good value too.Breakfast has to be pre ordered and offers cooked options only with fruit juice and tea or coffee. No cereal or fruits or yoghurt options but this didn't bother us for our Winter month stay. We noticed there are a few walking routes nearby and also the Red Lion is ideally located for Oulton Race track too. All in all an enjoyable stay/visit with friends and we will most probably return.We recommend for good food; good beers; good hospitality and cosy atmosphere.

Booked here for a family Christening and preordered everything which was spot on! The landlord and staff went above and beyond their attention and customer service to provide 30 people with a safe environment. Fantastic food enjoyed by all and the cheese and onion pie and gammon always a firm favourite. Couldn’t fault anything. Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon with our families.Highly recommend!

4 of us stayed for one night...we had rooms 1 and 4 ...spotlessly clean, comfy bed , hot shower and lovely view from room 1 overlooking church...evening meal was delicious , as was the cooked breakfast...staff and locals friendly...absolutely recommend and we will definitely return

All round excellent!We were camping at Oulton park for the weekend’s racing and booked a table at the red lion on Saturday evening.That our booking wasn’t listed in the book thankfully didn’t cause us an issue as there was a table available for the 4 of us.We all had 3 courses, my main of fish & chips was Devine! The fish was perfectly flaky soft and the batter so tasty and crispy. Our waitress on the evening was young and fairly new to her job and she was excellent, very cheerful and hospitable and attended to all our needs efficiently.We will be back

With choice within 8 mins of here being quite large, (at least 8 pubs) I’d say this is a great find, local friendly pub. Lovely little pub, quite quaint villageLovely outdoor area, car parkLovely and clean, looks asIf been refurbished over in the last 12 months.And covid compliant Close to Oulton Park and the best place within 2 mile for sure. Nice rooms/accommodation as well Bar staff absolutely great very welcoming and warmThe couple of girls who served us need some training on how to be better waitresses and more customer focused but they were ok. Food was lovely 2 tips for them - the chicken starters need to be more than 4 tiny tiny pieces.And the pie if gravy and peas are to go together then please put the pease separately so I can choose if I want them mixed in with the gravy. But bar that all our dishes were absolutely lovely, 100% recommend and will 100% be going back also.

This pub was recommended to us. We were staying a few miles away in Kelsall,but it was well worth the drive. The Landlord is very friendly, pub cosy and the food is delicious and reasonably priced.

Away on a short break in Cheshire and the Red Lion was recommended to me. Really good food, wine and atmosphere. Landlord (Alan?), couldn’t be more attentive and hospitable. A must visit if you are passing through or nearby.

Welcome back we’ve missed you. Took full advantage of the discount from Boris and what can I say. The food was amazing as always, the staff are really friendly, the pub is spotless and we felt very safe, they have good Covid controls with social distancing and sanitisers. Well recommended even booked again for next week ...... Can’t wait to go back may even take some friends it’s too good to miss. Come on support your local business of we lose them.

Stumbled across this pub on a walk to Little Budworth and was really clean, friendly and the food gorgeous especially the chips!!!!

So finally our local pub reopened on Saturday evening. Some changes made to keep us safe and all done with the usual smiles and good humour. Everyone respected the new regulations and we had a superb night and thoroughly enjoyed being able to have a drink in cosy surroundings with other people! Going back on Wednesday for dinner. Food always excellent. Well done Carol, Alan and all the team.

We visited on the reopening weekend.. All the new guidelines were professionally managed making us feel safe and very welcome. Great atmosphere and fab food. Highly recommended. Cheese and onion pie is amazing.

Visited The Red Lion with a couple of friends on the weekend the Covid-19 restrictions were lifted for pubs/restaurants. We were very pleasantly surprised to find The Red Lion still a warm and welcoming pub. Some rearrangement of furniture and no standing in the bar area, but other than that everyone there was being sensible and the place felt very safe. Frequent cleaning of empty tables/chairs etc. Highly recommended if you feel like going out for a meal or just a drink after months of staying at home.

We went to the Red Lion following a friends recommendation. The atmosphere was lovely and friendly. The service was excellent and friendly too, I loved the interior which I believe has just recently been refurbished. A lovely Cheshire pub with good food, real fires and a fabulous atmosphere. This recently refurbished pub ticks all the boxes. Tastefully decorated whilst retaining the charm of a country pub, warm welcome, excellent service, great beers and delicious food. We had the steak pie and it was great, fantastic crust and loads of meat! Super desert too!Thanks to Carol for looking after us so well!

Amazing Christmas menu. The salmon was beautiful and the turkey cooked perfectly. Service was professional and relaxed. We delayed our pudding for 30 minutes and this was no problem to accommodate. A little village gem

Just visited the new refurbished Red Lion, it looked fabulous, the fixtures fittings and ambience was lovely. We have had their Sunday dinner menu the food was excellent. Well done Carol and Alan a great job.

Another excellent meal here which is what I’ve come to expect at the Red Lion. This time I had the poached salmon with a lovely sweet chilli sauce and new potatoes followed by a delicious cheesecake. The portions are perfect and I enjoyed it so much I didn’t leave a crumb. The staff are very friendly and I was very pleased with the new refurbishment. I didn’t think it needed any refurbishment and was a bit wary of any changes but I love what they’ve done here whilst maintaining the character of the building. I’ll be back!

This was the second time that myself and wife Sue have stayed at the Red Lion Inn, once again after a September visit to Oulton Park. We were immediately warmly greeted by the convivial landlord Alan, who not only remembered us from last year's visit and despite being so busy with so many customers, then escorted us up to our very nice, clean and comfortable bedroom (room 1) with a nice view overlooking the village church.After a rapid unpack and a welcome cup of complimentary coffee in our room, we headed down to what was a most lively pub, packed with a mix of locals and many fans and riders visiting from the nearby British Super Bike meeting.From the first moment of our arrival right up heading back up to our bedroom late into the evening we were fortunate to meet some lovely people who proved to be excellent company, well kept Robinson's beer, gin on a special offer all cheerily served by lovely friendly staff. Lastly, we were also treated to a really lovely evening meal. Congratulations to all the kitchen staff who kept top notch meals coming out despite being so hugely busy all night. After al this we enjoyed a very good night's sleep in most comfortable beds before heading down to enjoy an excellent 'full English' the next morning.We would once again like to pass on or thanks to Alan, Carol and all the wonderful staff at The Red Lion Inn for helping to make our short break away from home such a pleasure. We hope to return once again in the not too distant future.

A lovely local pub serving good value and very good pub food. Owners and staff are exceptional. 99% of the food is great pub food - but they do need to send their chef on a 'how to cook a steak properly' course or maybe buy in better quality beef. Great local pub and lovely staff but sadly avoid the steaks - this review is from a chef.

Superb home cooked food very welcome after a nine miles walk. The pub is listed in Adventurous Pub Walks in Cheshire. Cheese and onion pie recommended. Very genial hosts too.

Came here for Sunday Lunch with family after a Young Driver event at Oulton Park. We hadn't pre-booked but they still accomodated 5 of us in a cosy area of the pub. The service was excellent, the food came as ordered with extra roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings. The only downside was that the beef didn't look as if it had been freshly carved from a large joint, but it tasted nice. One of our group ordered a pizza which was massive and she struggled to finish it, but said it was very nice. Overall a nice meal at a reasonable price, and very handy for Oulton Park.

My partner and I visited the Red Lion because I knew that they had recently introduced a slimming-group friendly menu alongside their extensive main menu. When we arrived we found a traditional country pub with locals and diners alike, fabulous atmosphere and very cosy and welcoming. Service was great and the food was delicious - I had a 2 course meal from the healthy menu of braised steak, which fell apart in the mouth, followed by their own version of Eaton Mess. It left me absolutely stuffed and feeling like I'd had a real treat. Other half had a very succulent gammon from the main menu followed by an amazing ice cream cake (which I quality controlled for him...) Even without the healthy menu this would be somewhere we'd return to but what a great idea to add that to their offering as well! Well worth a visit, and very reasonable too.

We called here for a lunchtime snack after our U3A walk. When I rang up to book as we were 12, they asked if we wanted to park there and walk from their, They offered us the use of the facilities before our walk, We pre-ordered our food too which was great and meant there wasn't a long wait for us on arrival.

A lovely old building opposite the village church. As it was starting to rain it was a good time to take a break from the weather. The pub was very nice with a roaring coal fire. There was a good choice of beers. The menu looked varied and there were plenty of empty plates from the people eating here. There seemed a steady turnover of trade which is always a good sign. Definitely a return to place if we are in the area.

The Red Lion is a traditional country pub in a quaint little village just down the road from Oulton Park, so very convenient if you've been for race day and want don't fancy going off looking for somewhere for an evening meal. The food was delicious and great value for money, staff very friendly and welcoming, and as it's a Robinsons pub they have a good selection of quality local ales on tap.

Wasn't going to bother putting a review on,but just been to the Dressers Arms,Wheelton,near Chorley with some friends,and what a difference to the Red Lion where we went with some friends on Saturday,the food was absolutely excellent,great value for money,no added extras for sauces,pleasant and helpful staff who couldn't do enough for you!! We walked in the Red Lion,the barman/own was ok,no great welcome,shown the booked table and given menus at the bar,two of us ordered the steak and ale pie which was very nice,one had lasagne,

We weren't sure food would still be available at 9pm but we were welcomed and served with more tasty food than we could eat at very reasonable prices! Pints of refreshing Wizard and friendly bar staff, hosts and locals. Recommended.

Haven't been to the Red Lion in years, so it was a long overdue visit. The reception was warm and friendly, the beer absolutely excellent and the food was amazing. Even better it was really good value for money. A definite "will return" experience.

Many years since l last visited this village pub and though the interior has been altered over time, it still has that quaint country charm and warm welcome from staff.

Called while on a walk around Oulton Park for lunch. After a warm welcome from the staff we were shown to a nice warm corner table and orders were taken. I must say the food and drink were spot on! A lovely country pub we will certainly return to again and we recommend it!

Pizza, own oven; Burger night - specialises in Cocktails, Mocktails and being independent! My specially made Mocktail was delicious!!! Unfortunately, links between staff was not followed through - so some of our group were overcharged, eg charged for a drink, then for the food rather than the offer of the night and then charged full price for a small ice cream after being told it would be a lot less! Do not think this was done on purpose just no one to tie things together. Some pizzas were blackened .. .

Halfway around our walk we entered Little Budworth and then into the Red Lion.

This was our first visit to this restaurant as we do not live in the area.

Lovely pub opposite the church in Little Budworth. Made to feel at home by the staff and the very friendly locals. Food very good value and good portion sizes. Beer garden and bowling green at back of pub. Overall a very enjoyable visit. Will be back :-)

What a lovely place to visit the cosy countryside pub atmosphere is great the service by the cheerful waitress was pleasant the food was outstanding my husband had the roast beef Sunday lunch and I had the roast turkey it was delicious the meat was perfectly cooked it melted in the mouth they also had a great choice of desserts I will definitely eat here again

Called here by prior arrangement for lunch with a walking group. We had all pre ordered for speed of service. It all worked perfectly despite pub being very busy. I had a very nice cheese and onion pie whilst my wife had a cheese omelette. The main courses were piping hot and first class. Highly recommended.

The beer here is well kept and the food comes in generous portions. I enjoyed the fish pie, which would have been enough for two. It is good to be in a pub that is also used by locals, of which there were many. (There would perhaps not be so many on the days when there is racing at Oulton Park.) The staff were friendly and helpful and saw to our every need. No piped music and we could hear ourselves talk. A pleasant, congenial place to eat and drink.

We were one of our usual epic walks & arrived at the pub 7.5 miles in having got lost part way through!

We have just had a weekend at the red lion. All the staff are lovely. Our room was spotless shower lovely. The room was very cosy and comfortable. The pub is very friendly. The food was very good and an excellent breakfast. It's only 15 minutes walk to oulton park depending how fast you walk. It's a lovely area we will stay there again. Well worth a visit.

Outstanding! Warm and friendly welcome, lovely pint of Wizard, a well kept ale, superb BBQ ribs as starter for two and very enjoyable roast dinner. If your going to Oulton Park go here and avoid the Egerton Arms and their over-priced drinks and surly unhelpful staff. This is an outstanding Pub!

We stopped off for lunch here and what a treat it was, first class food, service, and ambience, what more could you add.

Lovely old fashioned, traditional pub. All the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. We stayed there for two nights and although the rooms are small they are perfectly function with en-suit shower, TV & tea/coffee making facilities. We also ate there one evening, the food was lovely and a range of choice was available; they even accommodate one of our party of eight who always has to ask for something different to what its on the menu. Very close proximity to Oulton Park race circuit which was why we were therr. Would stay there again :)

OK I quess bit sruffy in the bar area, food was off the mark I left my chicken covered in cheese could not see the chiken,!!! my wife had pie she said that it was OK

Our walking group chose the Red Lion on our Cheshire Walk. Very friendly reception, good selection and excellent Robinsons beers. 29 of us sat down to eat. We had pre-ordered our meals. Service was first class, all the meals were brought out very quickly, everyone said they enjoyed the meals which were pretty substantial.I would readily recommend The Red Lion as being a traditional English Pub with a good selection of food

Out for a drive and spotted a sign for the pub and as it was lunchtime we called in for a meal.It is really nice to see a traditional local village pub - one that has not been revamped or been 'gastro'd'!Good bar meal, friendly service and good value for money. If you want to visit a real traditional pub then try the Red Lion.Well done on keeping it real !

This is a good local pub. Very friendly lunch time welcome from both the locals and staff. Unfortunately we were driving so couldn't try the beer but simple soup of broccoli and cauliflower was hot and tasty on a cool March day. Chips on the side were a good accompaniment. The bonus was that the Red Lion is genuinely dog friendly with an offer of biscuits to our two springers. Good location for walking and Oulton Park. A good watering and refreshment place.

Stayed here for a weekend in February. Great food, lovely rooms and a friendly atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Had lunch at this pub, standard pub food, but very nice, with good portions. The staff where friendly and the service was good.

This is my favourite pub by far, the food is absolutely outstanding. Each time I go I have to try something different because it all looks so fabulous and delicious. I've actually been a few times now and I've even brought along extended family and they have also loved it just as much. The staff are also extremely friendly and welcoming, it's a lovely atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Called in for lunch with colleagues. One is a celiac so was please to see some GF on the menu. between us we had mushrooms to start and one had soup. All very nice. Out of the main courses the gammon which one of the others had was very good. My scampi was perfectly cooked. The pub was quiet, only one other table occupied. Nice pub nice staff, food good.

We only had drinks here but the pub is very nice and clean with an open fire to sit around. Nicely situated for a drink whilst on a walk through the village.

Called in for a spot of lunch while out walking our dog, what a lovely friendly pub! Very welcoming to us and our dog, the dog had biscuits before we had a drink! We both had a cheese and mushroom omelette which was served with home made chips and a side salad. It was delicious! It was also very reasonably priced at £5.25 plus 50p for extra fillings. Would highly recommend calling in for lunch or just a drink. We are looking forward to our next visit which will hopefully be on a Sunday as I'm sure the roasts will be superb!

Called in on the off chance at 6pm looking for a relaxed Sunday dinner. What we found was amazing staff, efficient service and traditional high quality pub food. Personally I had the steak and ale pie and it was outstanding. Very relaxed, excellent value and will definitely come again! Mandy was particularly brilliant!

We were at The Red Lion to celebrate my mothers 92nd birthday. We had booked for 14 and the tables were set ready to accommodate our family party. Seating included a well-positioned high-chair. The meals ordered were all different; they ranged from sandwiches, a la carte and traditional Sunday lunch. All were freshly prepared and served at the same time. The hot food arrived at the table still hot. The food looked appetising and we all commented on how our meals tasted good. The portions were generous and sadly defeated those of us with smaller appetites. The selection of 3 vegetables were served in sharing side dishes and we were offered more should we require it. Some opted for more of the cabbage which still had enough bite to be moreish! The service was excellent. Altogether the whole meal proved to be a lovely experience.

The Red Lion is located in the idyllic village of Little Budworth opposite the parish church of St.Peter Yet its under a mile away from the Oulton Park race track, ( just a 20 min walk)To the rear of the pub, up a few steps there's the bowling green, which is owned by the pub, and, by prior booking you can use. When we visited we were impressed to how well kept the green was.We spoke to the Manager / Barmaid who had stayed on after a recent ownership change, she was kept busy with phone calls & bookings.She seem very genuine, and friendly & meals are fine

Visited this pub twice over the last 2 days. Been here previously for many years, new owner Alan is doing a great job...and his wife is doing great food. Made us feel very welcome and even gave pip the dog some treats. As always locals very friendly and welcoming. Forgot to mention....great homemade chips...mmmmm.

My better half and I have just finished a lovely meal here with our daughter. Food was excellent, portions were superb, service polite, efficient and always with a smile - and Euro 2016 was on too! Definitely recommend a visit!!!

Myself and my son stayed here while at BTCC in Oulton Park, food, staff and room was great. Would not hesitate staying here again.

The home made food hit the spot. Beer garden looked nice but we ate inside in the shade. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Can strongly recommend the black pudding starter. Walking distance from the track.

My wife and I went to the Red Lion on Wednesday for a meal we found it very quiet as we were the only one eating there but I had the cod and the wife had the brazed steak and both were very good.The only thing was that the drinks were top end price £3-65 for a pint of cider.

Stayed at this hotel for family funeral. ..Alan an carol were great at welcoming us. Breakfast was great a super fry every morning. Rooms were comfortable an very clean. an our bed was the most comfy bed. .slept great no noise at all. Our overall stay at this hotel was superb. We couldn't fault this hotel at all..loved the big roaring fire which was lit every day. Food was excellent. Alan an carol thankyou for making our stay a great one. Keep up the good work an we will be staying again in the future x

Went for a look around Oulton Park and decided to have our dinner at the Red Lion.The food was great and clearly home made. I had steak with pepper sauce and trimmings. My wife had cheese and onion pie. We then shared the Lemon cake. The landord and landlady were hands on and the locals very friendly.Definate must stop if you are visiting Oulton park.

We visited The Red Lion for lunch on Tuesday and were so impressed. We were made to feel very welcome by the new managers Alan & Carole. The food we had was beautiful, home-cooked and the portions were very generous! We'll definitely be returning.

The Red Lion is a little gem set in the heart of the picturesque village of Little Budworth. We visited it on a Monday lunchtime; the pub was quite full and we could understand why.The service was very efficient and welcoming, and the food was beautifully prepared. One nice touch - we were in a large group and the bar staff made a note of our names with our orders, which ensured that we all got the correct meal. The was a varied menu, with a lot of local produce, but rather a restricted choice for vegetarians.
